Expand

Useless customization (your ship is the most customizable loading screen ever made, you flick it to see it land in the loading screens and that's it). The WHOLE campaign is presented to you in static dialogues and poorly acted by NPCs that spoil the entire game experience, there is not ONE cutscene. The game is not intuitive and doesn't even try to be (there is no map of anything in the cities or on the planets, you just don't get completely lost in the main missions that are marked on the screen, besides, buy a little pad and draw in your hand where the things). Immersion spoiled by infinite loading black screens that cut the game at all times (and you can put it on the NVME M2 which is no use, there will be loading cutting the game in everything you do). Ridiculous performance on 20k PCs on any video card and processor, not justifying frame drops and bugs at all (on consoles I won't even comment, the worst port). Exploration of planets in MENUS, because there is no content inside them, in fact, the game is not even an open world, it only carries one of the three possible areas to play with invisible walls, empty places and with many other problems and there is ANY reason to if you go back to any planet again, just ONE time there for 3 minutes and you have NOTHING to do there anymore. I played 5 hours on PC and gave up, no way. Another unfulfilled advertisement for another game made on thighs. Everything the game does, it does so mediocre and uninspired. Mass Effect destroys it in the narrative, shooting gameplay and characters, just as No Mans Sky swallows it in exploration and world generation, there is no way to pass the cloth for that and I will not pretend to think the game is good, because M$ does not Pay me nothing to be her lawyer. Ridiculous, yet another flop sold as "revolutionary"....BOTTOM LINE: Starfield tries to take a little bit of every space game that has ever been made, but pulls it all together with no inspiration, and does so largely in a mediocre, empty, and pointless way. soul. It's not Skyrim, it's not Fallout, it's not Mass Effect, it's not No Mans Sky, Starfield seems just a generic game inspired by these others and advertised as an A trill, failing in its unreached grandeur! Well if you spected No Man Sky 2 this it's not your game. If you wanted a fluid game without loading times escenes in each time you reach a planet city house door. This is not your game. If you don't like mechanics of Bethesda that is on Fallout . Neither. It's a game specifically for gamers who like space issues but not offering that Sci fi like interstellar. For all of that makes that game bad.

The optimization is tragic; I've never seen a game perform so poorly. Sometimes I get 10 fps, sometimes 40, it's random. It doesn't matter whether it's in the city or the wilderness.

    Loading screens are everywhere:

Enter a building / loading screen
Board a ship / loading screen
Change floors in a building or ship / loading screen
Travel to another planet / 3 loading screens
There's no space exploration; discovering other planets and star systems involves teleporting by clicking the 'x' button and watching a loading screen. The space itself is only used for short battles.

The AI of enemies is terrible, and the combat isn't challenging. The Witcher 2, which came out in 2011, has better facial animations and character looks and costs only 2 euros.

I won't even get into the list of bugs and glitches, texture loading issues, etc.

The dialogues options are so blend and the characters so not convincing, graphics are inequals, loading screens in 2023...No maps, over 1k planets but nothing to do (they rely on their modding community to do all the work in that department). NO FKIN AMMUNITIONS. no meaningful choices. The whole game is boring and the inventory is the worst. The game consists in : go to my ship through the same animation, loading screen then select a system another loading screen and animation, then select a planet, same loading and animation, then select a landing zone (generally two or three if you're lucky but you won't have any chance to enter atmosphere manually its all animated) so its a fake exploration, you can even not spend anytime into space and just fast travelling. Lots of bugs contrary to what has been said. Persuasion system is basic, RPG components are basics. Character creation is ok. NPC display the same behavior since Oblivion that has been subject of constant mockery but doesnt seem to bother Bethesda since decades, nothing is explained on the game but its not like if it was Elden Ring as in meant to be opaque because you have to discover for yourself and that it is rewarding, here its just lazy and confusing. The ammunition system is a joke i can'"t even play with the weapons i'd like because i never have ammunition for it. New Atlantis is UGLY as f. I heard the game get good after 15 hours lol which is never a good sign and even then it got slightly better it still was a major disappointment to me. Expand

    - the screen zooming in dialogue on the characters face which is an oblivion 2006 mechanic amplifies the last point by forcing you to stare into the bozo robot npc staring into your soul
    - the game requirements are demanding somehow yet the graphics are worse than these games i played this year: hogwarts legacy, rdr2, spiderman remastered. 3 open worlds i played this year not to meantion all the linear games. runs much worse than all of them while looking worse. just pain.

But whatever we select, barely provides any difference and we are flooded with new status outcomes and have only one way – accept the offer to fly to our "new friends".

Then all these loading screens: it's flow, it got broken every minute or two. Space lives in a different world, land lives in another, quests are mostly unrelated to anything and battles are there mostly to grind some resources (because weapons don't have any impact on enemies, except damage numbers).

And visually it's somehow not as good as games from the 2014-2016 era, even huge open-world games all with better reflections, proper lighting, better skin and hair shaders, and consistent color balance (instead of washed-out blacks and overlit whites).

And I don't blame Creation Engine, the interiors, and dark areas are exceptionally good-looking. They could at least achieve some proper color correction for SDR and HDR, and as you may've seen in Atlantis, they washed out the image instead.

Combine it with 40FPS in big cities (on RTX 3000 with FSR!) and you'll understand what feels off for many players here. Several folks saying it's GOTY are probably been in cryostasis for the last 15-20 years.

The characters have all the charisma of deep-fried roadkill. Most NPCs are bug-eyed Lovecraftian horrors with claymation face designs and animations straight out of TES: Oblivion. Despite what critics are saying, the game isn't polished. I experienced numerous bugs of varying severity including a quest-breaker in just the first 12 hours.

On a more positive note, the gunplay is the best of BGS's games but that's not saying much. You can also get Adam Jensen as a companion which is kind of cool.

My experience was mostly fine til the end of my playing when I encountered a bug with a quest that broke it entirely. You were supposed to kill some spacer ships in orbit around a planet but when I got there they were too tough for me so since the only way to disengage combat is to warp to another system I decided to go back to New Atlantis to upgrade my ships weaponry, well that ended up being a mistake because instead of staying there and being there when I got back as even the loading screen tips tell you they would, they actually followed me to New Atlantis and are stuck in a never ending loop of landing at the Starport then taking off again. They aren't there if I warp back to where they were supposed to be at and they just can't be killed now and the quest cant progress it's just stuck telling me to kill them at a location they are no longer at.

To make matters even worse for the game it managed to brick 3 of my most recent auto saves which is as many as they hold by default. I had a mission to take out spacers in a star ship and I went through all of that finished the mission and moved on to another planet to try to get a scanning mission done. While there I went and cleared out a bandit base and then set off to discover the planets special trait and finish my mission. I did eventually finish it and when I tried to fast travel back to my ship the game instantly crashed to the desktop and every time I loaded and tried to load my save it would instantly crash to desktop. It did this for all 3 of my recent auto saves and the most recent save it would load was the quick save I made before I entered that bandit starship. that was so long ago I lost all my will to keep playing.

Most of the game feels like going from one loading screen into the next like there's loading screens just to get to more loading screens. You never get that feeling like you are discovering anything you're just watching a load screen animation. It's got the same kind of combat feel and location discovery and clearing as Fallout 4 just empty areas filled with pencils and notebooks and tape with empty soulless loot pinatas to shoot at you when you get there, which is more or less to be expected from a Bethesda game. It feels and plays like a 2015 game.

Those were my worst moments with it but I could go on about how poorly animated the npcs are which isn't the biggest deal. It just feels older than it is and how it's got the usual bugs like the animations breaking and their mouths not moving while talking like ventriloquists, or sinking through the ground or floating into the atmosphere. I just can't recommend the game. Especially not for the price they are asking for it. It is not anywhere close to being worth 70 nevermind 100. If you want to play this game I would only recommend doing so after it has had more time to cook with patches and lets be real, mods, which are another concern as even though the game functionally seems like a Fallout 4 mod, is very demanding on modern systems which makes me wonder how well mods will even work given their own resource requirements. Bethesda notoriously relies on the community to fix bugs in their games. AND with a steep discount from a sale.

As is I give the game a 5/10 I would give a 6, 7 if extremely generous, if not for the bugs and even without them I would not recommend the game at full price. It's an old game with a modern updated AAA price point. It feels like they abandoned the open world cornerstone of their games entirely going through a city like Neon just makes you feel like you're going through Omega in Mass Effect 2. Sections of the city separated by loading screens and just about every shop and location is a loading screen to get into.

This is an early review of my first 13.5 hours of the game in pre-release and mostly a first impressions. I know my score is low for the expectations of such a large and anticipated title but because it did nothing extraordinary or exceptional to set it apart and feels more retro than new I don't think it deserves higher scores like 8's or 10's and the severity of the issues I encountered makes me drag it down. I can see it being a 7 maximum if the issues are mostly resolved via patching and if the rest of the game somehow gets a lot better. But it just sits in the mediocre and flawed category rather than broken or exceptional. It's not a new bethesda game, just another bethesda game same as the last and shows they're stagnating as a developer rather than innovating.

Get it on game pass and/or wait for a sale if you're into bethesda games, you'll enjoy it but it's just not what you'd have hoped and not worth the new AAA price tag the highest of any game they've sold.

Combat felt a little underwhelming, getting bored of the bullet sponge enemies with damage numbers and health bars in games, was ok when it was new (The Division etc), now just feels tedious. Main characters are good, well voiced by some of the original Bethesda actors, story was fair, bugs & glitches as expected but not game breaking, didn't like the constant inventory management to keep within the weight constraints, sure, could have used console commands but I feel that cheapens the experience, personally waiting on a survival mode to be added or modded and I'll be back to have another go. I didn't have many technical issues, think it CTD once in the whole 40+ hours, ran at around 50 - 60fps most of the time so looks like I didn't have to upgrade my PC as Todd so eloquently suggested. It just misses the mark. There are SO many issues I could talk about - I actually wrote out a list. I doubt anyone wants to read that though so the main points are that
    1) The narrative of the quests and companions are not engaging enough. That is to say, most of the game is quite boring. Occasionally there is an interesting character or interesting event, but it's not enough
    2) The performance is not good and the game doesn't even look that good
    3) The combat is too bare bones. It's just too boring. The AI is bad, itemization isn't interesting, etc.
    4) There UI and systems are too much of a mess. I have to Google things WAY to much. There needs to be WAY more tutorials.
    5) The planets are too ridiculously similar to each other and too ridiculously similar to Earth
    6) Surveying the different planets is too ridiculously tedious and unrewarding. So are building outposts. There not being any kind of grav bike or other land vehicle to use is also very stupid.
    7) The NPCs are so ridiculously unrealistic and dialogue is poorly done. This is especially embarrassing when you compare it to works by Larian and CD Projekt Red

We as consumers have allowed the gaming industry to decay into such a bad state because we continue to show game companies we will STILL pay for garbage quality products. Starfield has no soul, just an empty shell. Quantity over quality. Bethesda used the ancient Creation Engine to make Starfield with tons of loading screens and "invisible walls", not even an open world game. Visually, Starfield looks like some game from 10 years ago, but demands super expensive, almost futuristic hardware. It's a total technical fiasco.

On the creative side, Starfield is completely devoid of any originality and likability. The writings and dialogues in Starfield are so bad it's unbelievable. The main story is as if it was written by someone who is 7-8 years old. Constellation NPCs are very annoying, lifeless, they even criticize the player if he does something "bad". You feel like you are playing a game with some old aunt who constantly criticizes you if you are not a "good boy". All that false moralizing is a total joke.

The atmosphere in Starfield is generic, soulless, as if the game was created by robots. Big cities are also mostly without any originality and interest. In Neon City, which is supposed to represent the city of vice, you won't find a single half-naked woman. Everything is made generically, strictly controlled, paying extremely close attention to "political correctness", not to "offend" anyone,

There is no atmosphere, no good story, no interesting characters, nothing... Emptiness, boredom, tons and tons of tiring, long dialogue without any meaning whatsoever.

This game may be playable in certain segments, but overall this game is just bad..

Bethesda has knocked it out of the park again with their latest epic.

If you know anything about Bethesda, you know that they don't do small. And let me tell you, Starfield is the BIGGEST game they have made. All of their previous games combined could fit on the smallest moon in this well-crafted galaxy. But it all starts with YOU, the player. One of the first thing you will do in Starfield is decide who you want to be, and the possibilities are endless. You can customize every little detail about your look in Bethesda's best character creator to date. Then you may pick from a large variety of backgrounds that provide you with starting skills and unique dialogue options throughout the game to really play your role. You can also pick three special traits that impact rhe entire game. Some provide new content to interact with and some give you powerful bonuses with drawbacks. But you're not locked in to anything. If you don't like your traits, there are immersive ways to remove them. For example if you picked the trait that gives you a mansion to live in but also a hefty mortgage, you can allow the bank to foreclose so that you don't need to worry about it anymore. You can practice and level up any skill you want regardless of background, so you can truly do what you want.

And there are over a thousand planets! About 10% of them feature native life and biological ecosystems to interact with, while the majority are "barren", as they are in the real universe. Don't worry; you are able to tell from a simple menu whether a planet has what you're looking for before you even decide to land on one, so your time will never be wasted. But even those barren planets are full of things to explore. Outposts of homesteaders, abandoned facilities, fascinating natural geological phenomena, and of course abundant resources realistically scattered across even the "deadest" planet. You can even build your own outposts with a surprisingly deep system to extract and transport resources automatically, craft powerful items, or just relax and read a book after a long trip across the galaxy. You can even stock them with any of the dozens of NPCs in the game that can join your crew, really making it come alive as they provide bonuses to its operations based on their skills.

Speaking of NPCs, this is another area where Bethesda outdid themselves. Cities are more alive and bustling than ever before, and there are hundreds if not thousands of unique personalities to interact with. If you've played any Bethesda game before you know one of the best features is the ability to join various guilds and factions that flesh up the world, enjoy their unique quests and storylines, and rise the ranks. In Starfield that is no different. Will you be a ranger, protecting freedom throughout the territories of the collective? Perhaps you will work for a megacorporation and become a cutthroat businesswoman or engage in corporate espionage to ensure your company comes out on top. Will you collect mysterious artifacts and explore the cosmos with a group of adventurers. Will you be an honorable member of the vanguard, defending innocents from pirates? Or will you be a pirate yourself, wreaking mayhem across the galaxy and taking valuable loot from ships in space? You'll meet all sorts of colorful characters along the way. Will they be your friends? Your enemies? Your victims? Maybe you'll even find love out there in the galaxy. The choice, as always, is yours.

Ah yes. Space. The setting of the game. Bethesda has masterfully crafted a galaxy and gives you the tools to truly do whatever you want in it. Space is BIG and you could fly for literal days between two planets in a star system if you wanted to, but thanks to a smooth and immersive fast travel system you can easily get to the action. Between star systems you need to grav jump, as the distances are truly astronomical. As you upgrade and customize your ship, you can increase its range to chart out the most distant stars. But be careful, there's danger lurking too. Pirates patrol the orbits of trafficked planets. You're going to need to be able to defend yourself, and that's where Starfield's masterful ship customization system comes in. Equip and upgrade lasers, ballistics, missiles, and more to dominate the skies, or keep it lightweight and focus on a speedy engine to fly circles around your foes in a dogfight. Build habitats for you and your crew to stretch your legs on your vessel. Make it yours. I would say the sky is the limit, but you'll be flying far above the skies!

This review has barely even scratched the surface of the things you can do in Starfield. The crafting, the crime system, the random encounters both in space and land, the impressive arsenal of weapons and space suits with gorgeous design and unique effects. I haven't even touched on the main story to avoid spoilers. I can't stress enough how well-realized this universe is.

    Just play Starfield. Now.

Starfield: Disappointment in the Open Cosmos

Starfield, despite appearing to be a grand game set in an open-world space, conceals within it the corridors of monotony that often detract from the enjoyment.

One of the primary issues with Starfield is its repetitiveness. The cosmic world you're meant to explore feels perpetually the same. Every mine, every outpost, and indeed, the entire universe seems to be copied and pasted repeatedly. Enemies remain constant, turning each encounter into what feels like a mandatory task rather than an engaging experience.

As for the story, there's no meaningful connection with factions or character development. Everything revolves around a formulaic scenario where you have to go somewhere, fetch something, kill someone, or shoot something, and you won't encounter anything genuinely new. The RPG element in this game is disappointingly weak, especially when considering the quality achieved in Bethesda's previous titles like Fallout: New Vegas.

The actual spaceflight, which was supposed to be a major highlight of the game, feels strangely unsatisfying. It's more like a sped-up transit between planets, making it feel more like "fast travel" than actual space exploration. This is a massive missed opportunity for exploring the cosmos and the experiences that could have been associated with traveling between different worlds.

While you may find various plants and weather on the surface of planets, that's about the only variation the game offers. Interiors are virtually identical. Enemy encounters are monotonous, quickly becoming repetitive and dull.

Overall, Starfield is a significant letdown. You feel like you've entered an open cosmos, but in reality, you're trapped in the corridors of monotony and subpar design. If you have a choice, you might want to consider other RPG (BG3) because, unfortunately, Starfield doesn't deliver the expected experience, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I think those that give it less than a 5 did not temper their expectations. Everyone is expecting a masterpiece with every game, I expected this game to get reviewed bombed because the average consumer's level of satisfaction is impossible to obtain. Its not perfect, but there are gems to be found in this game. I will try to give a level-headed review of the game:

Bad: It is buggy at times, you will be in loading screens A LOT, planet exploration is repetitive, inventory management and other UI leaves something to be desired, you are in pockets of worlds and space that make the universe seem small. Also the Main story is uninspired in my opinion.

Counter point: However this isn't a space sim, exploration isn't really the focus of the game for better or for worse. I say this because if you just explore the game may seem empty, but if you focus on quests, which there are SO SO SO Many, then it brings life to the dead backdrop. Also some of these flaws like bugs are just Bethesda-esque and did not surprise me at all.

The good: The planets, the cities, the unique encounters and quests are so fun that they bring the universe to life. The ship building, outpost building, the boarding of ships and space combat really do scratch that itch everyone who has ever dreamed of exploring the stars has had. The skill system and combat I think are great. The side and faction quests are some of the best they have ever made. I can't put it down. Despite its flaws, I think there is a lot of good in this game that I fully expect to play for a long long time.

Neutral: I am playing on Xbox Series X, I do not care that is 30fps, and that its bethesda graphics. It works for me. I acknowledge some people hate this. I don't think this should matter to anyone.

It is truly a Bethesda game that has not strayed far from its forbearers, if you expect a similar game to its predecessors with improved mechanics in some areas but lacking some Quality of Life improvements and fluidity, I think you will enjoy this game.

The persuasion mechanic is very weird, sometimes you succeed with 1 answer (which feels very unnatural and immersion-breaking) other times its more smooth and progressive. Repetitive zones, NPCs and models. The price tag should be 30-40$ at most! Only thing keeping the score up is bought reviews and die hard xbox fans that refuse to come to terms with the game being incredibly mid. exploration is boring. There should be no excuse for that laziness Bethesda delivered here. Insane budget, huge dev team, 7 years of time to deliver. And what we get is recycled mix of fallout and skyrim with all the same bugs, all the same problems, and even some downgrades (AI is actually insanely bad, i dunno how they managed to achieve that). As soon I got into space and wasted 10 mins flying towards a planet only to then figure out I have to open the menu and fast travel to the planet. I'm then granted with a loading screen. Then at the planet I can't manually land on it. I need to then open the menu again and fast travel again. I'm then in another loaidng screen. I refunded at this point because the game was not advertised and promoted in this way.

The space exploration is a scam. Todd is like a character in one of his own games that has maxed out charisma. He gets on that stage and promises a game that just doesn't work. Starfield is just another fallout 76.

Also forced participation into using pronouns is laughable. Nobody should be forced to take part in someone elses mental health issues. Pronouns are a weaponised social ideology used by people to make them feel special. They will tell you "it's not a big deal " But as soon as you don't want to participate in it you will be abused and attacked.. but it's not a big deal right ?

The only flying you actually do is just sitting stationary in front of a planet, space fighting in a scripted mission, or on the off chance you are engaged by pirates which was rare in my play through. To land you have to watch a cut scene, to fly you watch a cut scene. This game is broken up into different levels by a large amount of cut scenes.

The loading screens were mostly 1-5 seconds long but when you have to go through loading screens to enter any buildings or other sections of the same city/planet it becomes tedious and immersion breaking. I was so tired of these loading screens but what was worse was that I preferred them to watching the same tired take-off and landing cut scenes. The game trained me to desire to fast travel and watch that loading screen simply to save time instead of watching a cutscene. I figure if I’m not participating in the game during those moments anyway, why make myself have to wait longer to get where I need to be? I expected to fly my spaceship in this game but instead could only watch it fly.

I’ve logged somewhere around 55 hours playing. The main mission is interesting but falls short toward the end. I wasn’t satisfied with the ending and the New Game Plus quest which I completed. I was expecting to be faced with several terribly tough decisions to make and never really encountered that except once. I’d say the main quest had loads of potential to be mind-blowing but dropped the ball in the last quarter. Too many fetch this and that type quests are chopped up by cutscenes and loading screens.

The side missions were more interesting than the main storyline. There are several missions that are very fun and rewarding. The story writing here seems to be much better but it's still broken up by the same tedious loading screens and cut scenes.

For the most part, the game is the least bugged Bethesda game I’ve ever played at launch. Stealth is broken currently so expect a patch for that. NPCs do weird things like standing on top of things and floating but I didn’t encounter game-breaking bugs.

Overall, wait for this to go on sale and for Nexus mods to release mods that actually let you fly. This isn’t a $70 or $100 dollar game, it's more in the $30 or $45 dollar range. I’m very glad to have played it but I’m happier that I received it for free when buying my GPU. If you want to watch an honest review about this game before buying go watch Worth A Buy on YouTube.

Second thing is that they said in intervies before release that its Open World game, that you can land on planet and explore it all - Now that is a big lie.
This Game is not space game, its loading screen game, where you teleport everywhere. to go from base to quest mission on another planet / or solar system you need to have from 2 to 6 loading screens, depends if you click on map for fast travel or you want to go to ship> to orbit >to another solar system > to planet > to land on a planet... + whenever you want to enter building (most of them) its LOADING SCREEN.

1000 Planets? More like 500.. the rest you cant land on or game gives you random generated building to explore or other atraction - the problem is that after few hours of traveling you seen all of the random buildings and small quests..

There are lots of bugs with companions as well, sometimes they stand on chairs insted of sitting, sometimes they fly from your space throug ship, they stand in wierd positions in dors or shelves or tables.

The last thing (there is more but i dont want to write that much) is bad Optimalization on PC. its 2023, cyberpunk has better graphic and 3070ti can run it on 1440p+FULL RT + Hight details on 60fps easy.

    Starfield? oh boy... Mid/High setting + 1440p + fsr2 = 40-50fps in building to 30fps in cities.
And what Todd Howard said about this optimalization problem?
''MAYBE YOU SHOULD UPGRADE YOU PC...'' - Todd Howard 09.07.23.

But its not 1/10 and no one should give lower mark then 3.
There are bright stuff as well. Its Fallout 4 in space!! Lots of looting, lots of quests, alot of items like armor and guns. Story is fine+. The combat is good even if AI from enemies is bad.

The mod community is amazing as well, in just a day they fixed ui and wierd green color, added dlss that gave me +10more fps, And gave HDR and FOV that was not in game!

Overall i enjoy playing this game and hope it will do comeback in ''No Man Sky'' style.

Downside - still hot mess (esp. NPC details/models) compared to other games.

Lots of walking - can be immersive at first.
Downside - lack of transportation at surface means that you spend vast majority of time walking arouind. This will apply to all planets that you travel for, most likely, suveying for outpost and missions.

Shipbuilding - Slight depth to it, customizability.
Downside - lack of accessible parts (level-locked and skill-locked, and system-locked until outposts are built) means that customizing ships are hard. There is a size limitation which means bigger ships are curently impossible to build without mods, and there are egregious limitations on what you can actually build & with exterior ship features/details in mind.

Space travel - Random encounters everywhere (usually copypasta of same ones, especially pirate). space stations feel very copy-pasta. you'll notice similarities of layouts quite a bit. Fuel is automatically replenished. no sense of danger in getting lost.

Outpost/crafting (the most insulting part of this game) -
You can only craft outpost buildings, part that goes into it, medical consumables and weapon upgrades.
What you cannot make, as of moment:
    - Ship parts/structures (only purchasable, or by taking over ships)

    - Weapons/spacesuits/apparels (only purchasable or through loots)

    - Ammos. Higher difficulty or even lower diff, with minimal points into combat will make you use bullets a lot and spend considerable amount of money on just buying ammos, or forcing you to scavenge for ammo.

-Contraband items. making this and selling to npcs, along with everything above, would completely change the depth of gameplay with outpost mechanic with added depth, without sacrificing difficulty/complexity, as this would be completely optional.

bugs. Ranging from purely cosmetic bugs (there are lots of it, this is a bugthesda game after all), minor bugs (requiring reloads) to softlocks (game refresh mandatory).

    map design.
Planet survey is pointless. resource locations (on surface) is completely randomized.
in-game local maps are not present. surface map does not give good detail - THERE IS NO SETTLEMENT MAP

System search is not present. you'd think, with 500 systems on the map, you'd think bethesda would have favorite bar/search functionality to the map. Nope - you're forced to use a third party interactive map and search system using those.

Considering all this, The more hours you spend the game, your experience will become good to bad.
Therefore, I cannot recommend people to play this game, as this game has replayability being its heavy focus, a common bethesda game trait.

Space orchestra intro/casuals might enjoy the current level of depth it has. but it's definitely not going to be enough if you want to dive deeper into mechanics, because there aren't any present.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Starfield takes no risks, aiming to be completely agreeable and inoffensive in every possible way, resulting in an utterly bland and wanting experience.

The project reminds me of a novel someone's been writing for half their life, leaving the author incapable of identifying critical issues due to personal attachment. When you stare at something for too long, you can't see it anymore.

It's no issue to me that Bethesda developed concepts competing titles had already explored and iterated upon. However, they didn't build on the innovations of others, or even borrow from them, as if the studio worked in a bubble, isolated from the rest of the industry. Their sequestered development leaves the game feeling out of date, and even out of touch. It might be new to them, as multiplayer was in Fallout 76, but what about customers who continue playing games during 6-year development cycles?

    Major concerns:

    1. A science-fiction setting somehow lacking in curiosity and wonder.
    2. A light, almost anemic story, written without heart or soul.
    3. A world that completely fails to deliver player immersion.
    4. Stories that take no risks and dares nothing.
    5. Uncomplicated characters with little complexity or effective moral ambiguity.
    6. Role-playing without real choices or moral crossroads.
    7. Adventure without wonder or environmental storytelling.
    8. A game with no unique identity or new perspective.
    9. Writing without voice and tone.

In the spirit of other reviews, I'll use the starting sequence of the game as an example.

In a story, after the inciting incident, the audience will ask, "Can the character easily go back to their old life?" The answer must always be "no".

In Fallout 4, the sole survivor cannot go back to their old life after their spouse is murdered, their baby is taken, and they wake from cryo in the future. In Fallout: New Vegas, the courier cannot easily go back to their old life after they've been shot in the head and left for dead with amnesia. In Fallout 3, the lone wanderer cannot easily go back to their old life after they're forced to leave the vault or be killed.

In Starfield, can the miner easily go back to their old life? The answer is, frankly, yes. There is no dilemma.

Yes, the miner can easily go back to their old life. They can give their client the artifact they were hired to excavate, then go back to mining. Even the pirates don't want anything with the miners.

When you think about it, the narrative error here is that there's no "point of no return" for the miner in Starfield. Yes, they experienced a "vision" when interacting with the artifact. But, if the player asks, "Can I go back to mining?", the answer is, "Yes, easily".

    Other weak points:

    1. If Constellation already theorized that the first to touch an artifact experiences visions, why wouldn't they be present for the retrieval, asking the miners to step aside, to test their theory?

    2. After confirming that touching the artifacts grants visions, why wouldn't other members of Constellation insist on sharing those visions with each other during the planning of future retrievals? There are enough artifacts that everyone at Constellation could experience a vision (and other "experiences"). Does Walter not want to get his money's worth? Does Matteo not want to experience a miracle? Why would all of Constellation stand around a table, clapping for the newcomer who took over their venture?

    3. If Barrett also experienced a vision, and others can easily experience them for themselves, what makes the miner so special that they are given their trust, their companionship, their company ship, their robot, and, again, lead on their most paramount project? What did the miner do to earn any of this? What did the player do to earn this?

Finally, I know this has gone on too long already, but that awkward, family-friendly Neon night club? That setting alone exemplifies the overall feeling of Starfield as a whole: no charm, no tone, no risk, no offense.

I’ve tried to get into it but I just can’t it’s a pretty mid game that’s been overhyped it’s full of bugs, the enemy ai is shocking how did it make it out of testing. I definitely can’t recommend it it’s needs to go back in the oven and cook some more it’s still raw in the middle!!!!

The game is mediocre, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's bad. People are just disappointed because they expected more. Especially those that paid 100$.
    My criticisms:
    - Badly optimized. - The story is uninspired and predictable. - The facial animations look really outdated. - It's a loading screen simulator as many have pointed out. - Exploration is lackluster. - Combat is just

    - Combat is just "fine" by modern standards.
    - Difficulty settings just makes enemies bullet sponges.
    - More of an "A" rather than "AI".
    - While the game is not broken or unplayable, there are quite a few minor bugs that break the immersion.

Bland, boring and unfortunately uninteresting. Game feels like an over modded Skyrim, way better graphics but without the atmosphere. There's really too much in the game to do, countless side quests with maybe unique stories but I personally wish there was less content with higher quality.

Muitos planetas sem nada para fazer, jogo muito monótono, sem inovação. Em tudo q ele é bom, outros jogos como no mens sky é melhor. É um jogo decente

There's a lot of flaws in space in Starfield. But that does not prevent me from exploring our galaxy again and again.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
