Space exploration looks similar to both, but the UI seems a bit more interesting in Mass Effects with that little spaceship instead of watching cutscenes. The issue here is that those games were released in 2007, 2010, and times and prices have changed. There is not a single good reason for having very detailed useless items like sandals or sandwiches instead of programming the procedural generation to have something interesting inside objects such as caves, because most of the time there is nothing in there except for resources, which are only really good for building outposts to mine even more resources. Furthermore, objects such as enemy output are copied and pasted onto different planets, making the player feel déjà vu. Exploration is good for people who enjoy real life because planets are almost as empty as in reality.

To sum up, the resources in this game were invested in making a very detailed, empty world.

When it comes to the main story companions, it feels like someone wanted to make them too unique, which results in another unrealistically diverse crew.

It is not Gollum or Red Fall, so the score is as divided as the player base.

The game isn't bad, just dated. If they had released Starfield 10 years ago, I would say this game was groundbreaking. Nowadays compared to games of the same theme, it is not innovative.

Is it really too much to ask of a game set in space, for it to let the player actually travel through space?

    Truly disappointed.

Disclaimer: I've wrote 170 game reviews on here for fun, being as honest as I can be. I think I've scored two games 10 and two games 0 in that time. So when I give Starfield this score and review, it is not 'review bombing' - it's embarrassing to see media outlets time and time again dismiss user generated reviews because they're generally actually more reliable than their scores.

    On with the review...

I was excited for Starfield. Not to the extent most were - I didn't expect Game of the Century - but I expected a really fun experience, Skyrim in space as people say.

I even bought the special edition headset and controller because they're incredible. I have zero regrets doing so either.

So yes, it's disappointing to say that Starfield is... mediocre. In many ways it is actually Skyrim in space, and if that was the aim they technically achieved it. But it's done with no heart, soul or innovation. It's a relic, a game from ten years ago, clumsily dressed up and disguised as a modern one. But it's like plastering over a wall that's falling apart; the cracks quickly begin to show. And boy does Starfield have cracks.

NPCs look and act like robots. They don't feel part of the world. Even the voiced primary cast have a vague empty feel to them. The cities suffer from uninspired design - either painfully bland or cookie cutter. They get a bit better than the first one you'll bump into, which isn't hard as THAT one almost feels like a practical joke in how generic and beige it feels, but it never gets to the territory of 'good'. Indeed, The Outer Worlds - a game this borrows heavily from and is inferior to in look, story and character - smashes Starfield apart in this respect.

Yes, the game is 'big'. But 90% of it is lifeless. Literally. Barren planets acting as resource deposits. Again, The Outer Worlds - smaller, more focussed and hand crafted - is leagues beyond what Starfield offers in terms of curated content, because it's a more even experience throughout.

The writing and cast... no, actually, I won't criticise the voice actors too much. It's done well for their part. But the writing... it's Maguffin 101, you largely know what is going to happen throughout inside 15 minutes and there's very little turn of pace or direction. And to again compare to The Outer Worlds, nearly everything is so serious - yes, it occasionally 'lightens up', but it feels like a side-mission of levity to the main mission of deadly serious, boringly delivered lines. Without Skyrim's 'one voice actor voices like 200 people' novelty, this really, really starts to grate.

Combat is, for the most part, good. Gunplay - a concern of mine ahead of launch - is surprisingly very decent. The levelling system, however, isn't. It's... not pointless as such, as the perks work, but it's all delivered at snail's pace and in terms of combat perks can mostly just be straight up nearly ignored.

The UI is classic Bethesda - terrible. But I could have lived with that personally as it's par for the course. The lack of mapping, however, isn't. It's an almost gamebreaking design fault, absolutely shocking and I can't for the life of me understand why they went in this direction. It's supposed to be a sprawling open world RPG - how can you NOT give the player mapping?

Speaking of RPG, this comes to the crux of my issues with Starfield. It's decidedly an average looter-shooter first, and an RPG second. Fresh off the back of Baldur's Gate III and Sea of Stars, Starfield REALLY feels limited in its role-playing aspects.

Is it a 'bad' game? No. There's a lot of fun to be had, it does a lot right. But it's a disappointing one overall. From the makers of Skyrim and Fallout, over a decade after the latters release and with the company surely learning from the mistakes of Fallout 76, I simply expected a lot better. This is going to be a game that review sites will cringe when looking back on the 9s and 10s it's been rewarded out of sheer hype, because it's quite honestly not even close to that score. It's a 4/10 'Bethesda' game for me, but a 6/10 'actual game' - I expected so much more and got, what the kids call, a 'mid' experience. To this day, I can pick up and play Skyrim for a few hours and have a great time; whereas I pick up and play Starfield and I'm looking for reasons to carry on after 15 minutes. Therein is the difference.

There are the same bugs as always, the same stiff faces and animations as always, even the idle lines of NPC's when you walk past are the same like in Skyrim and Oblivion or Morrowind. At some point I was even expecting one of the guards in New Atlantis to complain about his missing sweet-roll or tell me that he used to be an explorer as well...

Another negative point is the "your journey" factor. Elder Scrolls or Fallout games have this sense of moving forward, this journey your characters takes. Even if you travelled back and forth between two locations it still seemed meaningful, still had a purpose. In Starfield there are loading screens...
Whatever you do, there is a loading screen. You can travel to the far end of settled systems and it still doesn't feel like you're on an epic journey cause there are just loading screens. Hell, there even is a loading screen to get straight to your cockpit if you can't be bothered to walk across your own ship.

I know that you don't have to use fast travel and just do it the "old fashioned way" but honestly, there are occasions where I don't even know that I will fast travel. Once you discovered a place then you will fast travel there. You have to go out of your way to travel to discovered places the "normal way".

The game is not all that bad or a lie like some make it out to be, but it is less than what I would normally expect from Bethesda and definitely not worth the £60, hence 6/10.

I love Fallout 4 and Skyrim, but this is not a good game.

This would have been a decent game in 2010 with regards to animation, graphics, story length, the little to no interface+display customization, bugs and so on. This is like Outer Worlds x Skyrim x ME: Andromeda, only worse in all categories. Anyone with a sane mind will not say this is better in any single way than Andromeda

This is like Outer Worlds x Skyrim x ME: Andromeda, only worse in all categories. Anyone with a sane mind will not say this is better in any single way than Andromeda which is now 6 years old. Those games appear to be 10 years apart, they almost are, just the wrong way around. Outer Worlds too is like 4-5 years old now, not a single thing in this game beats that, and that game had it fair share of problems.

Imagine publishing a game they have used this much time on, resources, past achievements, money, huge studio and you forget to add brightness and gamma sliders??
You forget to add a field of view slider, something games in 2008 had, it would literally take them 5 minutes to implement it and enhance the experience for all players by a lot and those who suffer from motion sickness will actually be able to play.
You forget that almost all people want to play this in fullscreen with optional DLSS, free to choose HDAO/TXAA/SMAA and hopefully have a game this bad looking above 60 fps on a 4070tix13600k, but thats just too much to ask so we'll keep it windowed borderless running 50 fps and a medium/high/ultra slider instead different methods of anti-aliasing.
Their most notorious problem is their garbage engines and carry weight / running stamina which makes a game made for hoarding absolute torture. They probably had this problem with FO3 in 2008 and every other game since, how can they not learn?

Keep in mind that farming ores on planets is useless, you will never use the materials, they will weigh too much to carry, keep in mind that exploring planets is useless, there are close to zero if not zero npcs there and you have to run massive lengths most of the time over encumbered, not able to sprint for more than 3 seconds of the time and maybe you're lucky enough to have a talent in jetpacks with so bad physics it's actually better to leave it behind because of the weight, only to find an empty cave with materials you cant carry or an abandoned base full of loot weighing too much to carry. The combat system is as stiff and broken as Skyrim, FO4, there is nothing different at all. The weapons feel awful, all of the 20+ different I have tried. Oh and the main city looks disgusting.

I have looked forward to this game for probably 3 years and what I got is an old looking, unpolished, perhaps too vast, empty, soulless, stiff, disappointing intro, tons of too long waiting animations, the wierdest mix of characters I have ever seen, 300 years ahead in time a colony that escaped earth is still talking with indian, african and east asian accents when speaking english which would obviously be the main language for hundreds of years (Hogwarts Legacy all over again), full of bugs, incredibly rough/uneven gameplay, garbage animation and graphics for an incredibly steep price and wait time. This should have been labeled as an Alpha project and cost 20-30 usd at most. It reminds me a lot of Fallout 76 only on a much larger scale and with npcs, sometimes.

This game is Fallout 4, an 8 year old game only set in space. The flora, fauna and rock/shaders on planets are actually at times worse than FO4, at least there are modders that upscale the textures and fix the mountains of problems there, which we can only hope for in the future here.

Hm, I wonder what I actually like about it. The dialogue scene close ups with people can be good, the idea of the game in space is good, but that's just in theory. The character customization was decent, some of the armor can look decent, some textures indoors can look good. Those who designed for example the landscape on a planet vs inside a building must be so far apart in talent it's mind boggling.

Of course Meta Critic gives this game like 8-9-10/10 "incredible space journey, game of the year" though when the community reviews comes out tomorrow I'm sure we're looking at 4-5/10 depending how biased and realistic/optimistic you are.

Will force myself to try it some more but not really enjoying any of it so far.

Title: A Promising Start: First Impressions of Bethesda's Latest Xbox Title

    Score: 7 out of 10

After playing it for little over 44 hours, I've delved deep into the world of Bethesda's latest Xbox release. With over 30 side quests, a handful of main story missions, and a good chunk of exploration, I'm ready to deliver my initial verdict.

    Performance Woes (-1 pt)

While the game offers an immersive experience, I couldn't help but knock off a few points due to performance issues. The absence of DLSS support is a glaring oversight, making the game's performance on my high-end rig, equipped with a 5900x processor, a 3080 graphics card, and an M.2 SSD, less than optimal.

Promising but Deceptive Advertising (-2 pts)

One gripe I have is with the misleading advertising that promised limitless planetary exploration. The reality, though immersive, does have its fair share of limitations and barriers. While it doesn't affect the core gameplay, it's worth noting.

    Exceptional Side Quests and Characters

Where this game truly shines is in its side quests and characters. The portrayal of characters and the narratives surrounding them are nothing short of exceptional. I've encountered a variety of companions, each with captivating backstories. Vladmir, I have yet to engage with, but the existing companions have already left a lasting impression.

A Solid Addition to Bethesda's Lineup

Overall, this game is shaping up to be one of the top titles in Bethesda's Xbox library. The delay in its release has clearly paid off in terms of refinement and polishing. In my playtime, I've encountered only three minor bugs, a testament to the developers' dedication.

In conclusion, while there are performance issues and some deceptive advertising, Bethesda's latest title shows great promise, especially in its characters and side quests. With a few more patches, this could easily become a must-play for Xbox gamers. Stay tuned for the full review as I continue my journey through this captivating world.

It tells you what you need to do to be a good person, and what you can't do if you want to be a good person. What you need to do to be accepted in society and what's going to get you cancelled. It wants to control every aspect of who you are and how you present yourself to the world, and it's all supported and enforced by the establishment.

People who identify as "woke" have a rigid parochial set of values and beliefs that they've ignorantly mistaken for objective truth. A system of values that they believe are fundamentally good and morally righteous. A set of values that they're convinced are undeniably correct and necessary to human happiness. A set of values they're so committed to that they've adopted a militant and grossly intolerant attitude towards anyone who happens to have different values or anyone who happens to believe things other than what they themselves have mistaken for objective truth.

The existence of people who don't share their values makes them so furious that they've convinced themselves that these are bad people who need to be shut down and punished through a deeply malicious combination of lies and intimidation they've attempted to impose their personal values on everyone, smearing anyone who says something they disagree with as sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic and any number of other "ist's" and "ic's".

Through doing this they've destroyed many people's lives and brought us all cultural impoverishment and social decline. Moreover through a rabid commitment to an entirely irrational gender ideology which they've convinced themselves is morally righteous they've allowed predatory men to encroach upon women's spaces all around the world and openly engage in child grooming in public.

They champion diversity but they don't like diversity of ideas. They champion Liberty, but they don't like freedom of speech. They preach about social justice on a phone made by a child slave. They use the expression "Words have consequences" entirely oblivious to how Fascistic that sounds. In short they're hypocrites of the highest order. They are all of those things they claimed to hate the most. Bigots, Authoritarians and Bullies.

In reality this game is average it does some stuff right, does some stuff horribly and the rest is mediocre filler content. If you really want to know whats good/bad from someone who is indifferent, here it is.

    The Good:
Combat is cool/ varied weapons and boosting through shooting is fun
Different equipment/stats makes for some cool builds
Alot of missions/side mission to sink your time in
    Art style is cool
Ship building is fun if you can digest the ui

    The bad:
Horrible UI all over the game
You spend about 30% of your gameplay time in menus (maybe 50% if u engage with crafting/ outpost building mechanics)
Exploration is Instanced loading screen galore (and a lot of menus)
    Stupid encumbrance system
    Outdated graphics
    Bad Optimization

    The Average:
    Meh main story
Many missions are either fetch quests or go kill someone
Choices are either meaningless or has no real effect on story progress
AI is just A without the I
less bugs than Bethesda's history but still there

As some one who is not a 'PlayStation fanboy', This game is straight up mediocre and at its best its fine. It is nice having a game that me and friend are playing at the same time but experiencing it differently so we're able to help each other and just talk about it but that doesn't save the basic game design at play so just go play Hi-Fi Rush as it is WAY better.

Whether it was the underdeveloped enemy A.I., the poorly designed base building (a giant material storage container can only hold 150 lbs of items, while the safebox in my bedroom can hold infinite), the emotionless (and ugly) character models, the lackluster main story quests, or just the general lack of adventure - Starfield ultimately proves to be an underwhelming RPG that fails to deliver on most of the promises Todd Howard and the marketing team pushed.

That is not to say that there's nothing good here, the weapon design and shooting mechanics are a vast improvement over their past games, the ship-building is very intuitive, and the scenic landscapes of distant planets and galaxies can be absolutely gorgeous! I just wish I had more of a reason to explore them

Unfinished and unoptimized Game. Sci-Fi aspects of the game are a joke. Performance is a joke. But the biggest joke of all is the blatant unoptimization of everything. May it be textures, lightning, physics, landscape effects/particles, flight mechanics, quests, the mist could go on and on. Even the frickin story is so so bad. What the frick was, whoever was in charge, thinking.

starfield is fun if you can live with a lot of fast travel. Some quests, especially the side quests as is usual with Bethesda, are really incredibly exciting and mysterious. I don't understand many of the bad reviews. After all, the game does a lot right and definitely has its strengths but also weaknesses and even smaller bugs. If you love games then you will also love Starfield.

Since they are announced. They sold it as the greatest novelty in the era of gaming, and simply a common RPG but in space and with which you cannot navigate in freestyle or in any style. It has many bugs and on Xbox series S and is poorly optimized and takes a long time to load resources, and its stories are simple. It is simply a $1 Dollar game pass game.

Quick Summary: If it's free then definitely play it and decide for yourself. Or wait for a sale. Its average and a little boring at times.

REVIEW: Starfield is an odd game. It looks last gen but with some fancy lighting. The same awful facial animation is back but this time the story sucks. As does the voice acting. Which is a shame as I presumed Bethesda would have ironed out the quirks and jank after so many many years and so much money.

It runs fine though digital foundry will tell you not all cards run it equally. You'll get 60 ish fps on 1080p on a mid range card like a 2080. Its a little glitchy but one of the better launched for Bethesda. But this isn't a cheap game so we shouldn't act as unpaid PR teams for a AAA studio which has a habit of misleading fans and starfield is no different. Its not quite what they promised. After Redfail I had hoped MS would have insisted on only releasing games when they're ready. Starfield may have benefited from more time or even a redesign. As it lacks many basic options on all versions including FOV. So mods are once again freely fixing the many issues (cyberpunk style).

The game world is like 970 empty procedurally generated planets and 20 decent ones and 10 good ones. Its like a poor mans mass effect merged with no man's sky though inferior to both. It tries so hard to be all these better games but fails to be any of them or even it's own thing. But I feel with a year of official hard work and free dlc and mods then it could become something better. It will never be Skyrim in space as it's not a seamlessly open world game. As said at it's core it's an elaborate loading screen sim but it's the best one ever made!

The one thing it doesn't have is my favorite thing about Bethesda games - exploration. No roaming across Skyrim, or the Commonwealth, or Vvardenfell, trekking aimlessly looking for random adventure. No more resolutions to not use fast travel before eventually caving - fast travel is all there is. So, more of the stuff you hate, less of the stuff you love.

All in all, I am enjoying it. For me with mods, on a powerful PC, it is a 8-9/10 (some quests are very well written, others feel like ChatGPT wrote them tbh).

I belive this game will only get better with age (mods/patches/expansions), and if you are on the verge, it might be better to wait until bugs are fixed, and more and even better mods and dlc is out. It is a good game in it's own right, but I was expecting more tbh.

The game is full of bugs. I encountered at least 10 bugs or so in my first 2 hours game play. NPCs are as bad as they always were in any Bethesda game, and they literally look as bad as in Fallout. Jumping NPCs or porting through walls happening everywhere. Doors which wont open.

Inventory system is a total MESS and not easy to use.

This game is a loading and inventory management simulator with terrible outdated graphics, terrible performance, full of bugs, no innovation, no content and just gets super boring super fast.

Does the game get better while you play? Totally not.

Is there hope the game becomes better through the mod community? Maybe. But that totally is not a good thing, especially not if you pay $100 for a 2023 AAA title.

It is basically a Fallout 4 mod in space.

Dont fall for the fake reviews. This game is a 6/10 in its current state. Nothing special.

    Trash AI

Absolutely soulless "Teleport from A to B" a thousand times "gameplay". No sense of exploration AT ALL. Everything is instanced and you never discover anything. You just open up your HUD and places are shown to you or you can pointlessly run around on empty planets.

Performance is horrible as well. The "ultra" preset sets the scaling to 70%. Let that sync in. I can play Unreal Engine 5 games with 5x the graphics quality with DLSS on quality with almost double the FPS then this with my 2080 Ti. In typical modern games fashion turning down details gives basically nothing in performance. I basically CANT play this game in a reasonable way with 60 FPS.

Like all the AAA games these does this of course is infested with wokeness as well but you can believe me or not I really do not need to down-rate this game because of this, the game itself is just complete 100% recycling.

The same boring looting of too much loot, companions just act as annoying packmules. And a utterly annoying way to give them stuff. You first need to talk to them, select the option "can you carry stuff for me" and then you end up in a pointless screen where you AGAIN have to push another button to open your inventory to actually then dig down into the **** UI to select items. Its unacceptable for a PC game in 2023 to be this bad. And this is not some kind if new IP from a indie studio. This is the xth iterations of the same game they already made again and again.

One of the biggest game studios on the world, bought by M$ but they do not dare to develop a proper PC UI. The UI it total trash, no grid system with a nice overview and drag and drop. Instead a oversized stupid console UI that just makes me want to puke.

Its kind of mind boggling that they did not even improve ANYTHING and many argue they made it worse. If if this would be "as good as Fallout New Vegas" or some of the titles I actually liked back then I am not down for the game game again and again. I already passed on Fallout 4 because the graphics (style) turned me off and the beginning was so uninspiring and boring and I already felt I played this b4 in better that I just could not make myself play it.

I do not even know why I had some hope for this game, its on me to think a new game name brings any kind of innovation.

I've been a die-hard RPG gamer for years, eagerly awaiting the release of Starfield. What a colossal letdown it turned out to be! I can't emphasize enough just how much of a disaster this game is in every conceivable aspect.

Exploration: Starfield promised a vast, open universe to explore, but what we got is a lifeless void. The planets are repetitive and uninspiring, offering nothing but barren landscapes and generic space stations.

Storytelling: RPGs are known for their captivating narratives, but Starfield's story is about as exciting as watching paint dry. The characters lack depth, and the plot feels like it was cobbled together in a rush. It's impossible to become emotionally invested in this snoozefest.

Gameplay: The gameplay is a nightmare. Tedious fetch quests, clunky combat mechanics, and a complete lack of innovation make Starfield a chore to play. It's a shame that a game with such potential ended up feeling like a poorly executed tech demo.

Technical Nightmares: Starfield is plagued by a myriad of technical issues. From constant crashes to game-breaking bugs, it's clear that this was rushed out the door without proper testing. It's astonishing how a game can be so fundamentally broken.

In short, Starfield is a colossal failure in the world of RPG gaming. It fails to live up to even the lowest of expectations and offers nothing of value to the genre. As a devoted RPG fan, I can confidently say that this is a game to avoid at all costs. It's a sad day when a highly anticipated title like this turns out to be a true 0/10 disappointment.

The graphics to say that fluctuating is an understatement. In many places it is also unpresentable in 2023 for a production of this magnitude and who is behind it in terms of studio and budget. It has fps drops and stuttering.
    The story is nothing special.
Let's move on to the gameplay
Bad gunplay, where there is no hit feedback. Unpresentable stealth and melee. The enemy AI is the ugliest ever seen in a videogame
Cities are never alive but they have NPCs that are dummies. They don't run away when you aim a weapon, or when you shoot. And so did a game like Cyberpunk that had a disastrous exit. This thing does not lead you to immerse yourself in the game world
The animations and faces you can't turn a blind eye to
How does the many loads it has not lead you to immerse yourself in the game. Another sore point. Everything is a load that accumulated brings problems to the player.
Anyone who says it's a bug-free game is lying to you shamelessly. There are and they are many.
Another sore part is the section in space. Everything summarized you are not free to move that there are artificial barriers that the game puts on you
It's great to be able to make the spacecraft however you want even if it's quite cumbersome and not very simple. The question of questions.. But since you can't navigate through space like in No man's Sky so to speak with docking and take-off etc. What's the point of making a spacecraft if in the end you can only use it for cargo or for those sections where there is space combat? Answer to nothing. A nice bait and switch
Another sore point the 1000 planets. All or almost empty. Wasn't it enough to make less and more cared for? No, the fanboys' justification is that in real life the planets are empty. Let's repeat the **** Ashley Cheng said that it doesn't have to be a playground.
They basically gave us quantity for quality.

The good things about this game?
First of all the wonderful music. The world building isn't bad either and some of the sidequest are very nice.

Persuasion minigame is as awful as try to get out from pit with ET! No explanation, no helps, just try 3 or 4 phrases and hope.

Starfield in many ways is a great step forward for Bethesda Game Studios. The environments are beautifully rendered, the particle effects are good, and the voice acting is better(though still not great). Its also been remarkably stable with few game breaking bugs.

That said, Starfield is just not exciting to play. Gone is the sense of freeform exploration from previous titles. In order to go anywhere of note, you simply have to fast travel and endure some of the least inspired space combat I have seen in a very long time. There's only so many times I can fly in a straight line against braindead ai, deplete shields with lasers and then switch to missiles before I just avoid space combat altogether.

When you actually get your destination(via fast travel of course), you are shown exactly on the planet where you should land. Mining site here, abandoned mech lab there, etc... After landing, enemies nearby will inexplicably have zero awareness that a huge spaceship just landed, and will wait for you to kill them. The same goes if you dock with another ship or starstation...

After you kill all of the enemies with typical Bethesda AI at the closest point of interest, you are treated to roughly a 2km by 2km area to walk around in before you hit an invisible wall. Contained in this area is almost entirely nothing. There are usually 3-4 very recycled things you can find, and they all feel jist as soulless as any of the radiant stuff that was in Skyrim or FO4. Very little feels hand placed or interesting. Whats worse, these huge areas can only be explored ON FOOT. Three hundred years in the future, and we dont have moon rovers or some other wheeled vehicle? Also, we dont have a god damned map that shows anything beyond just preordained points of interest? The first couple of planets were bearable, but this cycle gets old very quickly.

If you chose to land on an unmarked area of a planet, you will find almost nothing. The same rocks, plants and occasional aliens will be strewn about with little purpose other than to be easily farmed for materials.

Cities are also boring and uninspired. Most of the NPCs walking around are essentially filler, usually just named "citizen" and tossed into a random appearance generator. Most of them just walk around aimlessly, not interacting with their environment at all. Again, compare this to previous titles, where NPCs had a schedule they would adhere to. Even though it was simple, it brought some life to settled areas. Seeing named people chop wood, or go to an inn felt good.

I find myself missing the moment you leave the vault in fallouts 3 and 4, or leaving custody in Morrowind, Oblvion and Skyrim. That immediate sense of being able to just wander. Its really the thing thay kept me interested in those games well after the usually mediocre main quests were done. The exploration and ability to just get lost was the main pull. Starfield doesnt let you get lost, unless you are trying to find a shop in a city(again, no useful surface map).

Honestly Im not disappointed that Bethesda released "another Bethesda game", Im upset they didnt. I put hundreds of hours into their previous titles, and frankly after playing starfield for less than 50, I would rather go back to any of them and get lost again.

So Starfield, frankly I did not have particularly big expectations but even I got disappointed.

While the production design and ground combat is fine ( the former I quite like, the later being an improved version of Fallout 4), everything else in the game feels dated, clunky or really barebones.

To star off, the cities in Starfield don't really feel lived in. Whatever cities in Skyrim or Fallout were, they were believable. What BGS did is simply transport that system into the future and it doesn't really feel it fits. You sell most of the loot on a automated kiosk. Stores are far apart and difficult to find, combined with the fact there is no proper map of the cities. New Atlantis in particular feels like a weird sci fi set rather than an actual city. Akilla city on the other hand seem like a proper Fallout settlement that isn't made out of crap.

Anyway, the big ad for the game was exploration. Honestly, all the exploration in Starfield is just a worse version of NMS. You run around a quite big map on which 99% looks exactly the same field with the same assets. It is fine the first couple of times, but after you do it twice, it is the exact same thing over and over. It is fine for a tertiary side activity but it cannot be considered anything significant in the main game.

Biggest gripe is the bare bones of the whole space component. It is one big fast travel system disguised with animation sequence loading screens. In fact, you don't have to see space at all (apart from a few quests). You can simply fast travel everywhere. Space combat is pretty bland. Weapons are very similar apart from flavour text. Ballistics are exactly the same as lasers, except they do more hull instead of shield damage. There is no ammo, ballistic and missile systems rely on reactor power. Essentially everything is just a different type of lasers.

Ship customization is cool, but once you play around with it, apart from making cool ships, it is actually quite simplistic mechanically. Wide, but quite shallow. Combined with not having any actual space flight (apart from an instance next to the planets), and the whole thing feels like Mass Effect, except characters, dialogues and cut scenes were miles better in that 15 years old game.

Most of the activities in game are locked behind a skill, which means that you can't really have (until really late game) interesting custom ships, big outposts and/or custom weapons/armor. You can't customize your weapons at all until you put a skill point in it, even basic mods are behind the skill wall.

The dialogues system/presentation is back to 2011 Skyrim style. Dead on, flat angle head talking to you. Quest are not particularly interesting and from what I've seen in my 25hrs, no particularly creative or with numerous possible outcome, although I am sure there will be some like it. Main quest is pretty bland, as usual for BGS, as are the characters with a few exception which only shine because everyone else is so much worse. Frankly, the robot Vasco is one of the better ones.

A lot more can be said, but frankly, the game is 'just' an iteration of Fallout4. And in 2023 it feels dated and clunky, but I expected BGS would have improved over time. Alas, they have not.

The game also suffers from myriad of tech issues. From poor performance to bugs, it is all there. Not as bad as previous BGS releases, but still unacceptably bad.

If it had no glaring tech issues and bugs, the game is a good 7, may even reach 7.5 with DLC and mods (that will try to fix horrible designs). With its deceiving marketing and overall bland and shallow gameplay, I give it 6/10 .

An ok game and huge wasted opportunity to make a game to last years.

Free advice, wait a few years and buy the complete edition with all DLCs after 2-3 years.

StarField should be called StarTrucker as Bethesda decide to thought it will be a good idea to mimic the life of a truck stop in game. The sad thing is people who work at the truck stop, both truckers and prostitutes are more beautiful than the NPCs in game. I want to be clear about something. I own the Digital Premium Edition (Steam) and I think this is a good game. But it has so many design flaws that it makes Cyberpunk 2077 look really good beside it.

Starting with the incessant loading screens. not being able to see your own feet in first person, or the total absence of minimaps for large cities and interiors. It all shows dev laziness everywhere, masked with excuses of all kinds from Tood Howard.

There are no land vehicles. You can't use the mechs that you see in-game. You can't fly your ship in the atmosphere of a planet. It's just a quick travel simulator after some time.

The scanner should be one of the strongest points of the game and it's so incredibly boring to use. The only notable upgrade you get is some sort of zoom and little else.

You do not get any database of creatures, planets, locations, etc. A game that it's all about exploration does not let you store all of that. A game with 1,000 planets that invites you to explore all, does not keep track of anything anywhere outside the star map. No Man's Sky does this fantastically. Again, it feels like the devs were simply too lazy to do it.

I have not gotten to the performance part yet. The game does not have DualSense button UI for Steam, it does not perform well, and it does not include DLSS all because some sort of shady deal between Bethesda, Microsoft, and AMD.

Before you get this game, know that this is literally a copy-paste of Fallout 4 with an evolved engine and with a space skin. Some people will say the formula is nice. And I think the game is fun. But to mark this title as GOTY material is simply out of boundaries. By all accounts Baldur's Gate 3 is simply better. Even Cybepunk 2077 with the upcoming 2.0 release is better.

Again, this is a good game. I like it, but it's not the legendary game that it was set out to be. And the fact that Bethesda acknowledges ZERO of the criticism from the players is what bothers me the most.

No land vehicles? : "you're supposed to walk!"
Poor performance? : "you should upgrade your rig!"

And the list of excuses goes on and on. This is not what a developer should do. Relying on mods to make the game good is not a very good strategy (and let's pray they don't decide to "curate" the mods and sell them to you).

Anyway, game is not the masterpiece some Bethesda fans make it out to be. And that is totally okay.

Lastly I want to talk about companions. All of them are "good people" that will incessantly complay when you perform evil actions (in case you choose to be a villain). Join the Crimson Fleet with Sarah at your side and you'll see what I mean.

There are literally zero evil-aligned companions in the game.

Join the Crimson Fleet and you get zero pirate companions. And so on. Companions are simply forgettable. And funnily enough, only the robot, Vasco, is the one that will give you some little memorable moments.

Maybe in the future with powerful mods and additional content released by Bethesda the game will get better.

I say if you like the idea of Fallout with 70's NASA or Alien's Nostromo vibes, get it. You'll enjoy it. But:

    1. You better have a good machine.
    2. Do not expect a legendary masterpiece.

What doesn't help is that they lean heavy on the mod community to save it, saves them having to do it. But even then, the game will always have these loading screens and issues, just different graphics but same quality of graphics, same terrible talk animations, same bad ai.

They made us pay £80 ($100) for early access and I honestly we have been seen off. It's not the worst game but it is guilty of the worst game offence an expensive title can do...its boring, average, tries to be too many things and fails at them all. Each planet does not feel like anything more than a 'level' loaded in. There is no sense of immersion. However, if all you care about in games is the story rather than a story and excellent gameplay, then you might hold it in more prestige. Oh and pronouns are a thing and personally I hate all that woke rubbish. It's just a middling, average, none exciting, yawn of a game with no immersion, terrible ai in the 3rd person shooting bits. Its more a shooter than rpg, but nearly every jrpg has better combat. Its a looters game in which your just picking up weapon after weapon. Oh, and the game is not being review bombed. Many of the critique posts are 5 or 6's, these are genuine. Review bombs is straight up zero's. Do yourself a favour and get to a mates house to see gameplay before purchase. You may love it. I would strongly suggest you check them out if you haven't seen them to get a better idea of how poor the performance is Expand

The game is broken, boring, dull. Good thing I was able to return. I hope Bethesda falls apart. To hell with these developers.

This game is a waste of time, internet bandwith and hard disk space.

Combat is ok, the rest is what a average 2013 game would have been. It also runs awfully, I am quite at awe that everybody seems to collectively disregard this fact and that Microsoft is laughing at their fanbase asking them to update their computer, even though the game doesn't run well even if you have the best

I don't like space, so when the game go announce my first reaction was "Who asked for this."

When the game launcher on September first for the people who paid way too much to play early, I check if the game is pirated already and yes it was, but also Bratz Flaunt your Fashion got updated so I downloaded that instead. And turns out I had more fun playing that than my friends who played

And turns out I had more fun playing that than my friends who played Starfield.

When i finally tried the game i saw it's gray and dull, the story is boring and didn't grab me,
but what is improved from other Bethesda games is the gun play, and that is why I didn't gave the game a 0, but 6, the gunplay almost makes me want to play this poor game.

Honestly I even missed that this game has pronoun selection, I mean I hate catering to the trannies so I'm lowering the score.

And lastly the world exploration is worse than Fallout 4.

Bethesda needs to retire their engine
NetImmerse -> Gamebryo -> Creation Engine -> Creation Engine 2 (this engine is still based on Engine from 1997)

The game runs kinda poorly even on hi-end rigs, but like that's all tripeA games now.

Anyway Starfield was going to be bad, and it is.

I did not get spoiled by anything, did not read any hype review, I just wanted to play a good new Bethesda game - since they are so proud of the fact it's the first truly new IP in 25 years, I hoped they'd really deliver on it... since I started playing their games with Morrowind, I had some hopes they'd make it. Sadly they did not.

TL;DR: They did a Fallout 76 on their "Space Skyrim"

Sadly they did not.

    TL;DR:
They did a Fallout 76 on their "Space Skyrim" - OR: The Space Skyrim that never was. If you are a fan of Sci-Fi and "Open World" - which works in the strongest sense of the word in this game since the vastness the game simulates is humongous... however it feels almost like an empty shell when you get to explore. Much like No Man's Sky, it only gives the impression of being big and exciting, with great variations. The systems are a chore - even worse than Oblivions "use a Skill 100 times to advance in level" system, this game makes you work for even being able to Sneak, Lockpick and steer bigger space ships. It would all be acceptable if the grind wasn't that downright dull, if the Characters you meet in your first stretch of the journey weren't that kind of empty and one-dimensional-feeling and the Ship / Space mechanics weren't that "Elite Dangerous" kind of level.

This way, you get the worst out of 3 genres and all mashed into one humongous - albeit good-looking on Xbox X, game - on PC better prepare to have a huge graphics card budet that'd buy you two Xbox Series X likely and a year of Game Pass. Maybe that's what Microsoft/Beth wanted? Sell those Xboxes... it might work initially but boy, when the people get to playing this they just might be regretting that decision.

Bethesda seem to really love their "random number generator" engine - it drove many of their Elder Scrolls and the new Fallouts to new heights - but back then these games had a Soul infused in form of a major storyline, exciting characters to meet all across the Wastes or the vast action-filled mysterious world of Tamriel.

If they have the "whole of eternity" to work with, it seems the previous ingenuity of Bethesda seems to get dulled and stretched too far. This game has an inkling of the brilliance that was the first 5 hours of most any Elder Scrolls Game or Fallouts 3, New Vegas and 4 - but once the vacuum of Space sucks at your brain when you realize the first 5 hours of this Megahyped Game do not reach the old heights but are a downright borefest it's a bit sad.

Nothing too crazy, just a mix of several games but not as good. Not a bad game, but not a great one either, and as usual, misleading advertising.
If you want to play a mix between Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Skyrim and No Man Sky, it's a good game, but forget the freedom of those games.

De los peores juegos de este año, demasiado aburrido y lento, basicamente lo mismo que red dead redemption, pero este ultimo si es buen juego.

Quantity over quality. Ever want to visit same looking rocky planet after slightly color swapped rocky planet? Ever wanted to play a space game where no NPCs are alien, instead all the most boring humans ever conceived to populate a galaxy? No one has an interesting personality. Did Bethesda not have a creative team involved? The space aspect of this game is basically a skin over quickQuantity over quality. Sure there's tons of quests and weapons. But none are interesting. Exploration amounts to running 10 miles between geological features or copy paste assets. I don't know what game people are playing when they give this a 10. It could have been a great game but it is so uninspired. I see now why Skyrim was milked for 12 years. Bethesda is out of ideas and continue milking a 21 game engine for every last drop. Expand

Unfortunately the Starfield we got is underwhelming and not what was promised by Bethesda.

It runs like crap, even on high end hardware and the copy / paste of game elements across planets means it gets boring very fast. It's not worth the $120 AUD they're asking for the base version, let alone the $170 AUD they're asking for the premium edition. Give them 12 - 18 months to fix

There's a lot of flaws in space in Starfield. But that does not prevent me from exploring our galaxy again and again.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
