I embarked on my journey in "Starfield," eagerly anticipating a revolutionary sandbox RPG, a worthy successor to the likes of Skyrim. Yet, standing in the shadow of contemporaries like Baldur's Gate 3, the experience has felt considerably linear and lacking depth.

My 15 hours of gameplay has been a mixed bag. Though I deliberately veered off the main quest to immerse myself in the game's world, the excitement waned rather quickly. A considerable number of quests felt more like chores, burdened by repetitive NPC interactions and monotonous mine clearances populated by the same enemy types.

The character customization, touted to offer profound choices, left a lot to be desired. I was particularly disheartened with the "Dream House" option - a promising feature that culminated in a bland and uninspiring dwelling with repetitive layouts and a glaring lack of attention to detail, quite contrary to the cozy, unique havens I cherished in Skyrim.

However, a game can redeem itself through compelling world-building, a feature I had set my hopes on, especially with the much-hyped City Neon. Unfortunately, it fell short, offering a rather superficial experience that failed to match the visual grandeur claimed by many. Despite running the game on a high-end setup, the visuals were not up to par. Moreover, the cities felt empty, devoid of the vibrant nightlife and bustling corners that usually bring a virtual metropolis to life. A lack of diverse amenities in New Atlantis, such as clubs or engaging recreational spots, added to the feeling of a shallow, underdeveloped world.

I am willing to give "Starfield" another chance, in hopes that exploring new aspects like building outposts can reignite the initial excitement. As it stands, however, the game has not lived up to my expectations, which, considering the advancements in RPGs over the years, I believe were justified.

Reading the reviews made me dislike the game, but after that, every time I booted up the game, I found myself having a blast in a through-and-through Bethesda game. Ridiculous expectations from people who don't know Bethesda games are the only reason for mixed reviews.

Don't expect a vast amount of living planets and some unrealistic No Man's Sky gameplay - no Bethesda went mature.

Think of Mars, barren, some outposts, filled or abandoned, and the occasional cave. It is almost a believable universe. You build an outpost yourself to mine resources to make money, exactly what will happen in real life when we lower the cost of space travel. Exciting for the scientists, explorers, and businessmen, but not for the common folk except for the dreamy earth-like planets that are (meant to be) scarce.

The only thing I miss is not-so-necessary on-planet mounts. I would have enjoyed riding around for the sake of peace on the righteously barren and boring worlds, as also confirmed by one of the in-game characters to be a true experience for the explorers, although he mentioned he enjoyed walking the barren planets, just like the game offers.

The game is extremely familiar to Skyrim where I enjoyed exploring the stories and cities the game had to offer while visiting some interesting cities and doing combat with or against the factions presented to you. And just like with Skyrim, If you enter cities or fast travel, there is a loading screen. I laughed when I met a settler on a civilian outpost who started with "I used to be an explorer just like you, but then.. ah that's a too long story." A great reference to the "I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee".

This game doesn't try to be something it is not, it is a beautiful Bethesda game and that is what I expected.

If you don't like the space context, and if you do but rather play a planet explorer which is quite unrealistic but entertaining in its own way with vibrant planets, don't hate on Starfield - just play No Man's Sky.

I wanted the best Bethesda game yet, and a place where I could enjoy the dynamics of our own real complex but sometimes simple universe, and these were wonderfully crafted into my favorite game of all time, STARFIELD.

Got it on game pass, I would only buy the game with 50% or less discount, Bethesda has over hyped the game. Graphics are great, gameplay feels outdated like playing fallout 4. The world's exploration most of the time feels empty. Combat and weapons are okay. Rpg elements are okay. Story is not so okay. By far the worst is Official DLSS support missing due to stupid AMD exclusivity.

The promised open-world exploration falls short of expectations, and the generated environments lack depth and character. Moons and planets within the game serve essentially the same purpose, featuring reused missions and assets. Had this game been released years ago alongside titles like Skyrim and Fallout, it might have found its place among the cookie-cutter RPGs of that era. However, when compared to modern RPGs, especially with titles like Baldur's Gate, this game feels lacking and leaves much to be desired.

Larian's games like Divinity & Baldurs Gate have given a fresh look at the brilliance of interconnected story threads & rpg mechanics. games like Horizon: FW showed us how phenomenal these worlds can be without loading (draw distance, fidelity, detail, physics). No Mans Sky showed us how space traversal can be immersive & realistic by flying to a planet, entering its atmosphere, landing & climbing out of your ship. what does Starfield show us? what screams "next-gen" about starfield? xbox cant even get it to run faster than 30fps on their series x. sorry, no performance mode in 2023 is a massive fail.

Visually, the venerable old Creation Engine has never looked better, though it does offer up a small selection amusing visual glitches - though notably fewer than might have been found on previous launches.

The main complaint I have is with the writing. While the overall story is compelling enough, and some of the side-missions are very nearly brilliant, dialogue can be clunky or even cringe-worthy, perhaps most especially with companions who are part of Constellation. They're all so . . . bland and nice, and are prone to gush awkwardly over how awesome it is to be with the main character.

(Perhaps they took inspiration from the Adoring Fan?)

    I would rate Starfield 8/10.

Great game, I am relatively new to RPG games, I get lost, so immersed in this game it could easily pass 5 hours and I don't notice ir, the Creation 2 engine physics are awesome, and graphic details are put of this world, I've spent around 24 hrs and I'm not even scratching the surface, I can't wait to get back home to continue playing it everyday.

That didn't happen, but Starfield took everything good from other Bethesda games and blended them together. If it had also introduced a solid innovation, it could have surpassed Skyrim for me and become the best game in the world. I'm not saying that all Bethesda games that brought innovations are better than Starfield, of course. For example, I really liked Fallout 4, even more than many Fallout fans did, despite its innovations. Despite bringing innovations, Fallout 4 wasn't received as well as Starfield. For instance, until the release of New Vegas and Baldur's Gate 3, it was my favorite game in terms of shaping the story. New Vegas brought innovation, Starfield didn't, but the storytelling aspect that applied to New Vegas or the base-building feature added with Fallout 4 is also applicable to Starfield. Yes, Starfield didn't bring this innovation, but all these features make Starfield much better than New Vegas and Fallout 4. Moreover, games like Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3 released this year, instead of introducing significant innovations, added improvements that completed their series (similar to what Starfield brought). In a sense, Starfield's job this year is easier, but still, it seems challenging after BG3 and TOTK. Features like establishing outposts, engaging in smuggling, battling smugglers, and conflicts with other ships and outposts are genuinely enjoyable. The characters have returned to their old, dull state, and the sense of exploration is quite boring. Okay, the game is massive, but this is something that can still be improved. Nevertheless, the game is fantastic, and since 2018, no game has satisfied me this much. Thanks, Bethesda." Expand

Up to try any genre of games and sometimes I find something new that I didn't think I'd like. I own a PC (built by me), Xbox, PlayStation and a Switch. I prefer PlayStation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the GameInformer review scale and of course influenced by my personal opinions.

    (8) Very Good. Innovative, but perhaps not the right choice for everyone. This score indicates that there are many good things to be had, but arguably so.

Upon writing , I have 50 hours of play time on Steam and 15 hours on Xbox. During my first 20 hours of playing, I was not a happy camper. I was getting annoyed with the constant loading screens, and the constant walking on worlds that had repeated content in the procedurally generated worlds. For example I kept on seeing the same cave, mine, animals, plants, and/or, outpost setup that these knew planets I was visiting didn't seem very different from each other. I ended up not letting myself go to random planets and started to only follow the main mission and side missions and I started liking the game a lot more and wanted to keep going. The handcrafted parts of the game was a breath of fresh air to me and turned my initial worry about the game around. I enjoy the space flight but wish we could travel to other planets manually, I get not being able to enter planets without a cutscene but I was expecting to be able to fly in space more than just specific areas. You pretty much have to fast travel everywhere and it ruins the journey for me. Of course, I wouldn't want to manually go everywhere all the time but here and there I would. I haven't ran into any major bugs and the miner ones I did run into would just be enemies glitching into the ground slightly and the characters not looking at you in conversation. Basically, I'm enjoying the story and side stories but besides how many planets there are, the outpost building, and ship building, this game is on par with the Mass Effect Series and most of those games were from two generations ago that accomplished most of the same things. I don't think this game is a masterpiece but it's worth the time to play.

Useless customization (your ship is the most customizable loading screen ever made, you flick it to see it land in the loading screens and that's it). The WHOLE campaign is presented to you in static dialogues and poorly acted by NPCs that spoil the entire game experience, there is not ONE cutscene. The game is not intuitive and doesn't even try to be (there is no map of anything in the cities or on the planets, you just don't get completely lost in the main missions that are marked on the screen, besides, buy a little pad and draw in your hand where the things). Immersion spoiled by infinite loading black screens that cut the game at all times (and you can put it on the NVME M2 which is no use, there will be loading cutting the game in everything you do). Ridiculous performance on 20k PCs on any video card and processor, not justifying frame drops and bugs at all (on consoles I won't even comment, the worst port). Exploration of planets in MENUS, because there is no content inside them, in fact, the game is not even an open world, it only carries one of the three possible areas to play with invisible walls, empty places and with many other problems and there is ANY reason to if you go back to any planet again, just ONE time there for 3 minutes and you have NOTHING to do there anymore. I played 5 hours on PC and gave up, no way. Another unfulfilled advertisement for another game made on thighs. Everything the game does, it does so mediocre and uninspired. Mass Effect destroys it in the narrative, shooting gameplay and characters, just as No Mans Sky swallows it in exploration and world generation, there is no way to pass the cloth for that and I will not pretend to think the game is good, because M$ does not Pay me nothing to be her lawyer. Ridiculous, yet another flop sold as "revolutionary"....BOTTOM LINE: Starfield tries to take a little bit of every space game that has ever been made, but pulls it all together with no inspiration, and does so largely in a mediocre, empty, and pointless way. soul. It's not Skyrim, it's not Fallout, it's not Mass Effect, it's not No Mans Sky, Starfield seems just a generic game inspired by these others and advertised as an A trill, failing in its unreached grandeur! Trying to aim for the head while standing still and the bullets just don't connect? And yes, the opponent wasn't moving either. It's a bit weird. Maybe the reason is on the main problem of this game right now, PERFORMANCE. For me the game is performing very poorly and it's really taking the fun out of it. Smooth/high frame rate is mandatory for a first person shooter. I hope Bethesda has learned from their mistakes and that they are going to fix it, so everyone can enjoy it. It really tries to be a good game, I'd say it's solid 8, but the performance keeps dragging it down for me. How much more damning can faint praise get when the discussion of a game’s quality focuses on how it’s less incompetently cobbled together than previous ones? What does it mean when you're so used to shipping broken games, you think "less broken" is an actual brag? Let’s be real, it doesn’t mean much at all when your last game’s level of quality sat at the bedrock below the barrel. To call Starfield the least broken Bethesda game is akin to calling any single TERF the least embarrassing fascist. Then again, given how Zenimax and Bethesda seem to treat trans employees, that comparison may hit too close to home. Starfield’s unintentionally comedic marketing claims might very well be true. It could indeed be, as other reviews have breathlessly proclaimed, “the most polished Bethesda game to date.” That doesn’t mean it’s actually polished, does it? Being the least glitchy game is not the same as being a glitch-free game, and if there’s one thing Starfield ain’t, it’s that. I can of course only speak about my own experience, which has been of a game no more laudable than the digital wreckage that was Fallout 76. Its abundant issues range from the small - enemies getting stuck in doors, NPCs materializing out of thin air, etc. - to the thoroughly horrendous. Really do mean horrendous. I’ve been perpetually stuck on dialog screens, unable to advance a conversation while a character silently gurns at me. I’ve regularly become trapped in my ship’s cockpit, unable to move until I’ve sat back down in my seat and stood up again. Companions have disappeared. Mission-critical enemies have spawned inside walls and rendered almost impossible to kill. I’ve gotten softlocked more times than is forgivable, and I dread to think how much progress I’ve cumulatively lost as a result. By the time the game outright crashed, it felt like hitting the middle square of a bingo card.

In decades past, Bethesda’s games have gotten away with being busted beyond reason because they were “so ambitious,” but any leeway that might have historically earned has long since dried up. Higher reaching productions from less wealthy companies haven’t been half so defective, not to mention dated. Compared to its contemporaries, the complacency on display is almost offensive. While Starfield’s galaxy is nebulously “big,” its vast array of barren planets populated by recycled assets is absolutely no justification for what this thing truly is - just another buggy Bethesda game following an ancient blueprint that hasn’t evolved creatively or mechanically since Fallout **** 3. On a fundamental level, Starfield plays exactly like any other Bethesda game, only with features borrowed - and subsequently lessened – from No Man’s Sky and The Outer Worlds. The same rudimentary combat (only without VATS to wallpaper over how sloppy it is). The same archaic approach to exploration and questing. The same stilted dialog propelled by non-sequitur exchanges. The same moronic A.I. and robotic animations. The same old narrative cliches in a world of cardboard where every stranger tells you their life story and immediately trusts you with sensitive tasks for seemingly no other reason than the fact you’re a videogame protagonist and they somehow know it. Hell, it’s even got the same worthlessly clumsy third-person mode we’ve seen for almost twenty years, just to hammer home how shockingly little Bethesda has advanced as a creative entity.

People have referred to Starfield as No Man’s Skyrim, and while some have intended that as a slight against this game, I actually think it’s more insulting to Hello Games’ work. No Man’s Sky at least had a universe you could seamlessly explore, with planets you were able to approach and land on in real time. That was actually ambitious. Starfield’s planets can be flown to manually over the course of hours, but you can’t land on them without a menu, loading screens (get used to seeing those), and dull cutscenes. lso, let’s give the devil its due - Hello Games has worked damn hard to improve No Man’s Sky far beyond its launch version to the point it still has massive summer updates at no extra cost. Bethesda’s so averse to improvement that multiple games released years apart feature the exact same unaddressed bugs. It’s a little gauche, admittedly, to draw so many direct comparisons to other games in a review.

If you’re the kind of person who thinks videogames peaked with Fallout 3's launch version and they’ve required neither evolution nor improvement since, this game is absolutely for you.If you believe Bethesda doesn’t need to exhibit growth as an artistic outlet and hasn’t had to change a thing about the way it’s made games since 2008, I can safely say you’ll adore Starfield.

    1. Flight controls are limited, and extremely disappointing having come from Everspace 2.
    2. The motto of the game should be, "Ctrl C, Ctrl V".
    3. Boring, filler content. 4. Gear and enemies are boring and repetitive. Enemy A.I. is dumb. 5. The bugs get worse the longer you play. 6. Writing is bad. I personally can live with bugs and bad writing if the game is fun. The problem

I personally can live with bugs and bad writing if the game is fun. The problem is that Starfield isn't fun. It's a boring pile of meh.

Forget the critics. Look at the user scores -that will tell you what you need to know.

A poorly optimised game delivered to us on Bethesda's part. That's now
up to mods to fix or at least make it playable. I had to set Nvidia setting to lock 30fps to get a stable gameplay experience. I am Running above recommended specs. There is a great game here and I'm enjoying it when it's running ok, but there's no excuse for no DLSS option and a half baked game.

I must give this game 2. Like when in school you go unprepared. First of all the optimization on Nvidia GPUs is embarassing, cant even change the resolution in game. Loading screens everywhere, gunplay is ok but doesnt adds up nothing new, planets are empty and when you find something is just a copy/paste from other planets, dungeons too are a copy paste. They took 1 year more delay to "clean" the game from bugs... They are still there. This is not a 2023 game, maybe 2016. Fallout 4 modders in 2 years made better than bestesda developers in 8 years with hundreds of millions dollars received. The main story is short (13 hours), game difficulty is too low and you cannot change it. New Game plus is awful and useless.
Bethesda hyped fans and people thinking this could be game of the century, maybe in 2015 Starfield could be addressed as a good game.
100 euro wasted and embarassing game.

First of all, this game have 0 reasons to perform that bad on pc. While cyberpunk2077 had major GAMEPLAY bugs, i could still achieve high fps with both dlss and rt on. And the overall textures and objectives are better. Also, basic settings are missing like brightness slider, hdr, fov, textures settings and resolution

NPCs/AI, graphics, main story feels outdated and not interested. Would

NPCs/AI, graphics, main story feels outdated and not interested. Would bebetter if it had an online part like Death Stranding with its buildings, or a pvp to test our spaceships. All the grinding is not worth it.

Good thing i have GP for a couple of games that I;m interested in. This is surely not worth the 70 or 100 euros

I really love Skyrim and Fallout 4, but the new Bethesda project upset me: there is a huge racial diversity in the world of TES, and in Fallout 4, in addition to the people we are familiar with, there are ghouls and supermutats.
Here, in the world of the future, where humanity has stepped forward three hundred years, we are seeing scant racial diversity and this upset me.

Muito load, sem cinemática para uma melhor imersão no game, npc 100% artificial, sem expressão nenhuma, tudo muito do mesmo, quem for jogar pelo gamepass é até aceitável, mas pagar por esse game fica muito difícil.

There's a lot of flaws in space in Starfield. But that does not prevent me from exploring our galaxy again and again.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
