Just play fallout 4 if you want a shooter with rpg elements. Starfield is basically worse version of that game.
    - no blood and gore, even robot parts don't get damaged
    - very low enemy variety, for 20 hours I've killed 3 different alien creatures, some space suite guys, 2 different kinds of robots and a turret. In Fallout 4 I would see 10 times more enemy diversity. - no underwater

    - no underwater swimming
    - every gameplay feature like weapon customization and pickpocketing is behind skill system
    - no power armor
    - landscape is generated and boring
    - worse performance
    - more bugs
    - no cool vaults/dungeons
    - character is constantly encumbered. And you can't even turn items to scrap.
    - terrible balance, companions doing 6 times your damage and immortal, healthpacks very rarely drop from enemies, this leads to safe and boring gameplay.
    - ludo narrative dissonance, often you get a quest to deal with some very dangerous people, but in reality they are some low lvl hobos that can't hurt you.
    - bad ai, super passive and with unlimited ammo they can will shoot you from distance with smg for hours even if they can't hit.
    - bad ui, instead of compact spreadsheet or icon grid you have about 6 items on screen with info only for selected items and no icons.
    - you can't fly anywhere, space part is just so you can shoot some ships or dock to a station one in a while.
    - even character editor is worse, you can't grab face parts and drag anymore.
    - quest choices are limited, your actions don't matter, you can't just kill quest npc, and they will resurrect and act like nothing happened.
    + item models are cool
+ ship building system is nice
+ 50 different models of guns and you can upgrade them, best part about the game
+ really large world, you can waste hundreds of hours (if devs and modders fix it)

Janky, unoptimized, running on an engine older than most of its playerbase and worst of all, takes the limitless wonder of space exploration and makes it mind-numbingly BORING.

This game is Todd Howard personified; bland, full of BS and with a turgid brown filter slapped across it for good measure.

I couldn't play more than 5 hours. It's by far the most broken Bethesda game at launch! The story is unambitious and full of plot holes. The side quests are very repetitive and boring.

The performance on Xbox Series X and PC is awful which is completely unacceptable given its extremely outdated visuals and lack of RT effects.

The load times are extremely long, combat is repetitive, physics & visuals are extremely outdated.

I'd say first and foremost it's an RPG with the ability to have space battles ship building base building and exploration. Not a full on sim so don't expect to play it like other space Sims. My only gripe so far is some loading screens seem unnecessary, like going into small shops within the city or loading into a tiny cave from the surface of a planet. I hope they are able to procedurally generate those in the future without having to load in even though it's literally a 1.5 second black screen. I definitely recommend this game and cannot wait to see what modders do with it as well.

Running on steam with a 5700xt, 3700x, 32gb of ram, m.2 nvme drive. A mix of settings from medium to high to ultra and my average FPS from the amd app says 64.5.

It’s the stereotypical Bethesda rpg, but newer and better. And isn’t cut and pasted too much from fallout or Skyrim, so it feels new and has different features. Pretty seamless release compared to most new releases. Not buggy like others may suggest. Runs great on both Xboxes (series s and x). Well done. Can’t wait to see what this new world has in store for the future.

Unfortunately, that's all the good I can say about the game. Most of the game is just boring, bland and utterly confusing. Main story is the posterchild of this - it's a 5+ hour long fetch quest that neither resolves nor explains anything.

Starmap is a mess and you can never find anything on it. The only way to travel to your quest destination is to open the destination from your quest log. This is followed by a few loading screens and then you're there. I didn't know where "there" was, most of the time. It was just another random starsystem.
On top of that, there's no map and there's no minimap. You have to rely on the quest markers to get somewhere, which tunnelvisions you into following the blue little dot on your screen.

Combat is boring and way too easy. I played on normal difficulty and I dont remember using a healing item in combat other then the end of main quest where I popped a few. AI is stupid and constantly forgets to shoot, takes cover where I can see it and it tries to use his gun for bashing instead of shooting.

Character building is non-excistant because very little depends on the skills. Combat skills let you do 30% more damage, health skills let you take a bit less damage and have 40% more health. That's about it. Also, lockpicking. Take lockpicking.
I finished the game on level 25. To unlock all the skills, you have to be level 350+ something so that pretty much means 90% of the skills will never be touched.

Crafting is pointless. Every single enemy loads a random weapon with all the variations of mods you can think of. Theres a good chance you will find that perfect weaopn for your build in half an hour. I did.

The planets are void of content. You can land on planets, but there's nothing to do on them. You can scan a few plants and rocks, you can kill a few pirates and collect weapons to sell. That's it. Maybe you get lucky and there's a fetch quest on that planet if you're willing to walk a few kilometers on foot.

The game pissed me off more then it entertained me. Bethesda should fire their UX team immediately and hire whoever makes SkyUI/StarUI mods.

The graphics are poor and look like a game from 10 years ago. Maybe the game sometimes looks nice in the foreground, but the backgrounds are a disaster. Most of the characters faces look like they come from a children's plasticine competition and their animations look like they were made by a very cheap AI. The enemy AI is the worst in recent Bethesda games. Enemies movements are completely random. Sometimes they may try to hide somewhere, but sometimes they will look straight at you waiting for you to shoot them, and other times they will just start running in random directions. Optimization on PC is terrible if you don't have the most powerful components. Exploration in this game is tragic and boring. If someone wants to play a game about cool space exploration, play No Man's Sky. It will be

To sum up, the game looks like a preliminary foundation, not a finished game. Well, modders will fix it and fill it in, but then the game shouldn't cost $70

After sinking hundreds of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4, this game just fails to meet the same experience. For everything Starfield does great, it does something else worse.

    Pros
    - Fantastic graphic quality and worlds. Environments and items all look great, there's a lot of attention to detail
    - There are tons of side quests to do. You can find people to talk to to go on adventures everywhere in populated areas
    - Ship building is fun. Managing your ship is rewarding, and there is a lot of modularity; or you can buy a new ship

    Cons
    - Loading screens. Anywhere you want to go is a loading screen. Going off planet, going to a new solar system, entering buildings
    - Copy paste POIs. Many named POI's on planets are the exact same building, in many cases the loot and enemies spawn in the exact same positions
    - Combat AI suffers. Many times in combat, enemies will get stuck looking at walls, or just staring at you as you sprint at them with an axe. Your companion will also stand in the open staring at enemies not shooting.
    - Core gameplay mechanics are locked behind certain skills. Things like using your boostpack, targeting specific enemy ship modules, pickpocketing, and more are locked behind first leveling up a skill to unlock these mechanics. To me these feel like core mechanics that should be available from the start to use.
    - STAREfield. Literally every NPC you walk past will stare at you. They won't stop.
    - Typical Bethesda new game jank. Items will clip, NPCs will judder in place as they get stuck running into objects or trying to interact with stuff, had one instance where my entire game took on a heavy blue tint, like the gamma got maxed.
    - Looting and UI are a mess. Trying to sift through objects to loot is a chore, and using the scanning feature to highlight objects only uses 1/3 of your screen. You can also not open objects like lockers or shelves while your scanner is open, so you will constantly be switching back and forth if you're a real loot goblin.

It's Fallout 4 in space, but with worse story, gameplay, and AI

Trust Bethesda to make a game exploring endless space boring as all hell. Like Fallout 4 but worse in most ways, plus a TERRIBLE PC port, I have a 4070Ti and the game barely hits a stable 60, usually lower if anything is happening around. Thanks again Todd for reminding me how overrated BGS is. Retire the damn 2 decade old engine and make better games.

With no level cap you can do anything you want in the game because you can unlock every perk on the same character which is one best choices bethesda made in my opinion.
I am planning to 100% this game, this includes 100% surveying every planet, unlocking all perks and completing every single mission.

The exclusion of ground vehicles can be a hindrance sometimes, however a fully upgraded boostpack (perk) really helps in traversing great lengths, even when overencumbered.
Would i like to see certain ground vehicles? Yes.

With my new setup even loading screens only take a second, this game runs perfectly.
Crashes never happen and i play between 5-10 hours non stop.

Only thing im missing that i do see in alot of different space rpgs is the intelligent alien lifeforms, whom have their own civilization, technology etc.
However i do believe the first DLC to contain those based on the name.

There are flaws, the performance of the game on some PCs is astoundingly bad, and in many ways unacceptable. But when experiencing the game for what it is, it shines through. The quest lines are excellent and exciting, the cities are fun and content rich, feeling more alive and vibrant than cities in past Bethesda games. The ship customization is nearly limitless (to its detriment in some ways.)

A majority of the criticism floating around is about either performance (which is acceptable, why rate a game well if it’s unplayable) or about very minor complaints that have no impact on the overall experience. If you enjoy Bethesda’s open world sandbox style of RPG, you will enjoy this one quite a lot. At the end of the day, Bethesda games are what they are. No matter what lies Todd Howard tries to sell you about the formula evolving, you know what you are getting into, and the only way you won’t enjoy this is if you have lofty and unrealistic expectations because of the marketing strategy. The game for what it is, is excellent.

I like the game as I have liked previous Bethesda titles warts and all but I cannot in good conscience say it is a step in any direction except maybe a step back from previous titles. The engine they refuse to update looks worse with each new title released, better lighting and shadows, sure, but to me it just looks like lipstick on a pig. Endless loading screens instead of a seamless experience of exploration and true role-playing. NPC's and facial animations are a real disappointment after playing games like Witcher 3, Death Stranding and Baldur's Gate 3 and one of these is from eight years ago. Just nostalgia for Bethesda games shouldn't excuse their sloppiness. They have the massive backer that is Microsoft now so they really have no excuse (not that they had one before in my opinion) as a AAA developer to deliver such a sub-par product for 2023 while other much smaller studios with a fraction of their resources deliver something amazing both in looks and feel! I have to mention that I mainly play Star Citizen and used to play Elite Dangerous on console and PC and the fact that in Starfield the planets / moons are not freely explorable and you cannot move freely with your ship in the systems between the planets and moons is a bitter disappointment for me.
The spaceship only serves as an animated loading screen between the maps on and in front of the planets / moons, and the flight model is so simple and cheap that it has nothing to do with a space simulation. Nothing of what Bethesda advertised in advance is present. Yes, the maps (that's all there is in the landing zones, because you can only explore freely within this tiny area around the respective landing zones) don't look bad, but here too you notice the focus on the console, but textures are nothing that couldn't be added, so I'm rather relaxed about it.

It's basically a Fallout on different planets, if you like that you'll certainly have a lot of fun with Starfield, but if you're looking for a space adventure where you can explore space with your ship, you're absolutely wrong here, you won't find that here.

But I have to come back to the loading screens, even in the cities you run from loading screen to loading screen, really everything is instanced in this game. If you take the train, loading screen. Enter a house, loading screen. If you dock with a spaceship, loading screen. Oh, and if you land on a celestial body and reach the end of the small map and move your spaceship over the map, over a loading screen a few kilometres around, everything looks completely different because this new map is regenerated adjacent to the previous area.

I know it's not Star Citizen, but I suspect that the planet Microtech and its moons alone require more development than the entire game Starfield.
It's just a disappointment, technically and gameplay-wise, as a whole.

How low have the community's expectations become to be able to talk this game up so much? But ok, to be fair, tastes are different, whoever has fun with it should enjoy it, it's nice for those who like it.

    In summary for me:
    - No gameplay worth mentioning in space
    - too much chatter
    - too small maps around the landing zone
    - Optics, partly nice and partly muddy and you can see the age of the engine
    - too many loading screens
    - there is no immersion, how could there be?
    - no space adventure for me
    - Exploration? Where? not available
    - you can pimp your ship but basically there's nothing more than looking at it, great, why spend time and resources on that?

I would have liked Starfield so much, unfortunately it bores me to death :(

Will be back in the verse on the PTU (Star Citizen).

-Space combat is boring and avoidable.
Which means all that shipbuilding you had fun with was for nothing. You can just hit start and fast travel to the planet right when you get to locations avoiding all space battles. Which is smart since space battles are so bad.

    - Citizen NPCS.
The fact that each "city" is flooded with "Citizen" instead of named NPCs as all other Bethesda games have is criminal and lazy. I don't even believe that any of the old Bethesda staff worked on this because of this fact. Also, all the citizens say is variations of the phrase "WHOA {Cityname} is so nice" Good job trying to enforce you bad city designs with generic NPC's saying how nice it is.

    - Named NPCs
So you did put some in. They are not the easiest to find, except well if they are a shop keeper. Thats right, in the future you might find yourself working ALL DAY AND NIGHT being a cash register. The named NPCs that you do find are almost exclusively shop keepers that man the station forever with no breaks or time off. They have about 2-4 unique things to say but mostly just sell stuff. The issue here is, they should just be Kiosk. Why in the future would any humans have to do this job. Or a robot should do it. Very bad use of Named NPCs.

    - City Designs
You found 1 of around 5 or so real cities! Thats right. Thats less than Fallout series which is a dead planet. Turns out the universe is more dead than a dystopian nuclear wasteland. Now on these 4 cities (and 1 decent outpost) you notice that the humans that went to these places must be really into themes. Take a pick
Poorly ripped off Olisar from Star Citizen town! (look it up) Where is the weapons shop? Thats right the residential district. Nothing is in the Commercial district, dummy.
Cowboy city - new vegas fan put this bad boy in here. Too small to be a real city though.
Edge city- Someone clearly liked cyberpunk and forced it in here.
And last City- Legit just a bunker on mars. Good job, not.

    - Skills requiring milestones after purchase
Best save some of those goods to sell until you buy the next level or merchant. Takes up to 125 unique sells to max the skill milestone so you can finish leveling it up. Worst Trait/skill tree.

    - Combat is dull. enemy AI is just not good.

    - Quest are bad. Some questlines (not many of them in the game) end randomly (looking at you Repo man questline) It is really sad that it's like they started on it, then got distracted with something else and forgot to atleast have the NPC's say "thanks well were all caught up" or anything.

    - Planets being dull with the same activities to do.
Same 8 or so random encounters spawn at each planet. Imagine if Skyrim if you fast travel to a marker just to spawn about 3 minutes away from where you suppose to go, just to have that place you're going to be the guards with a prisoner every single time. Thats the gameplay loop.

    Summarize!!!

Shipbuilding is fun and walking around the ship is neat. No interactivity with the inside of the ship for the most part, which sucks. But, can't win them all. In this case, any. So take that the building is fun.

Thats it. The rest of the game is LAZY EA level garbage. Random generated **** being piled on your plate. No handcrafted anything, because that takes work. I'm guessing they assume the Modders will fix/make their game for them.

    2 points for shipbuilder

Unlike previous Bethesda titles, it steps away from a world map and now divides it into instances. These instances cannot be traveled by foot and require you to move your ship (which you are anchored to). Much of the game is empty worlds with procedurally generated locations, though also houses plenty of hand-crafted content for the player to enjoy (more than Skyrim or Fallout 4).

Despite the flaws, the game is a step up from previous titles. Few bugs, improved combat, an interesting story, amazing side quests, and an overall freedom Bethesda is known for. Ship combat feels good, if not a bit clunky. The base building seems complex at first glance, as well as shipbuilding. But getting past the small learning curve, you can make wonderful things.

The game is also already getting mod support. Plenty of cool mods are being made, ones that can help run the game better, as well as mods to simply improve the quality of the game. This isn't to 'fix' the game, but to enhance it. An aspect people don't seem to understand. I can enjoy the game vanilla, but I'd rather adjust the game to my perfect liking. I'd do this for every game if I could.

I've enjoyed the small things, the large moments, and the emotion I've felt playing this game. I think it's a perfect title despite its flaws, which I don't think should reduce the score as every game has flaws. It's only when those flaws ruin the game I would lower it. This game might not be for everyone, as it's basically a Bethesda title in space. There isn't a whole lot that is new, so if you're looking for innovation, look elsewhere. But if you simply want a Bethesda title in space, to have that classic feeling but enhanced, then this ist he game for.

Excited to play with their "least bugged BGS game" i went in expecting to not find many. I sadly enough found a lot, it took me an entire 10 minutes to encounter my first bug whilst switching weapons. A whooping 5 minutes later i found the second one when opening mannequin and my entire screen turned black. This was an amazing beginning towards the least bugged BGS game. Which only became worse as I progressed with the story. I'm glad that they kept in the essentials, your followers just seem to lose you 24/7 like they did in Skyrim, which gladdens my heart, anyway. Upon reaching New Atlantis I suffered the worst drops in FPS, with a 4080 and 13900K you wouldn't expect it, but on 1440k ultra I maxxed out on around 50 FPS and I caved, i started to install the DLSS mod and the better optimization mod this improved my FPS by around 30. After about 3 hours I got extremely tired by using the menu, the bloated feeling and the game taking longer than i've hoped to get out of the menu was unexpected from a game in 2023, so added more mods. The StarUI mod made the inventory way better. You'd think after 4 games BGS would appear to have some knowledge of the type of menu/inventory players want, just check the mod page, FallUI and SkyUI are among the highest ranked. Yet they appear to have failed to implement a decent inventory for 4 games straight. Anyway it was time for more bugs, so after trying to complete the Heart of Mars quest, the quest was broken. The stone spawns under a rock and you can't mine it. So aside from the glaring technical issues, that they had +7 years to fix, the bugs weren't "the least" in any way. I haven't played Skyrim nor Fallout 4/Fallout 3 on release, so if they say these are the least amount of bugs. I'm quite appalled how bad it those were. I kinda gave up on this game, i'm sure the game will be fixed by the modders, like every BGS game does and still theyre asking top price for it. But at this point the game is quite unplayable for me and is breaking my immersion with every planet i reach. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk.

After seeing a lot of people giving this game a 10/10 despite the amount of bugs and technical issue only the shove it on the "review bombing" from angry playstation fans. I lowered my score from a mediocre 4/10 to a 2/10. Just to shove it to those BGS stans.

I mean come on guys. I know they can be shut off but in a firefight that can take a while and it gets sooooo annoying. Let’s talk graphics and why Todd’s out of touch with the community. The game does look pretty shiny but it’s not any better than other triple AAA releases and in some cases worse. The game engine seems to be poorly optimized. When a 4090 can barely pull 60fps native constantly there’s a problem. The decision to not support dssl blows the mind. Fsr is good but not on the same level of dssl yet it hampers the game. So when Todd says get a better rig and I have a ps5 that gave us games like God of war, Ghosts, Rachet and clank, horizon running at 60fps and looking really good. The problem isn’t our rigs it’s your engine and the optimization and choices you made. Not taking full advantage of the best possible hardware and giving options to the community for our choice of graphics cards is dumb. Makes me wonder what their test rigs were running ? Thankfully a community full of modders will make their game better and probably take it to where it should have been originally. Ultimately I still think it’s worth playing the main quest is done well and some side quests are fun. There’s some enjoyment to be had. After playing Baldurs gate 3, Zelda, and we still have Spider-Man 2 coming. I fail to see how anyone at all can say this deserves game of the year. It’s simply not even on the same level of these other titles. I question all the media outlets giving this game 4/5 or a 9/10 when the bar for great gaming has been raised so high and we got a reskinned Skyrim that no only doesn’t run as well. It also feels far emptier and less exciting on many ways than previous titles from Bethesda. So yeah it’s mid don’t believe the hype. Expand

This loop happens forever and once you realize that it completely takes away any immersion you may of had. I find myself unable to keep playing as every time I try to play now it hits me with a loading screen(albeit quick) to another location instead of organically going to a place and then unlocking the option to fast travel if you want to. Game is fun when you're on a main planet or locale that is filled with quests and you don't leave it. Because once you do the game fades. Expand

In current state game is more like indie game in EA. And even appraising it as indie game and not game from one of the largest game company - I can't say this game is really in good state.
I finished Cyberpunk on release and even with all that critic it was in much better state technically, graphically and storywise.

Plenty of things I didn't like in this game:
    - Engine is outdated and look cheap. As result - graphically game is really mediocre and game itself looks very grey.
    - Very tedious space travel. From cut-scene to cut-scene to cut-scene. If I need to travel from point A to point B i need to watch plenty of boring cut-scenes. It really disrupting game-flow.
    - Even after all that load screens of space travel game need to load separately small areas like shops or even your ship interior. It really help me to remember Morrowind but it isn't 2002 today!
    - Game itself is badly optimized. It crushes very often. And I don't have problems with FPS or load times.
    - Post-release support. Devs just ignore any problems. No patch, no info about patch. Just full silent mode.
    - On the planet surface you will need to move on foot on very long distances. I need to travel fro 1km on foot to some distant structure even if I have ship. It is just bloating the game time without any reason.
    - Inventory management is hell. It is minimalistic but game have plenty of crafting-items. Half of the time you spend just trying to fit them somewhere.
-UI at large is really not good too. Like ship building mode or outpost building. At least you need to manage your outpost much more rarely than your inventory
    - Characters writing is really bland and uninteresting.
    - Companions AI are non-existent. They will run into your crosshair and block you into tight spaces. Enemy AI at best is mediocre.
    - After some time in game you just seen it all. All bases and planets are made from same assets and look alike. Some of them are really just copy-pasted.
    - No maps for cities. It seems I just need to remember there is every merchant and place located.

    Some things I didn't dislike.
    - Perk system looks nice
    - Story. I can't say is it good or not because I didn't finish to play yet. But at least it started ok.
    - Gun-play. It is actually seems nice especially with so much different guns to choose from.

However, many things in the game seem to be delayed in time, such as the characters' speeches, the enemies' AI, and the players' movement through the "open world".

It's unbelievable that a 2023 game has a loading screen all the time, as well as robotic models of the characters when they talk to the player.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When Starfield was announced, I was stoked, ready to strap on my space boots and blast off! But rather than a cosmic carnival, I found myself on a not-so-merry-go-round of repetitive tasks sprinkled with cringe woke American nonsense.

TL;DR: Starfield promised an intergalactic adventure but delivered a mixed bag of repetitive quests, a clunky UI, and space combat woes. While there are some standout moments and impressive voice acting, the game's immersion is frequently broken by bugs, unbalanced combat, and heavy-handed political overtones. In space, everyone might hear you scream... but mostly at the bugs and UI.

    1. Main Questline Missteps: There are some redeemable questlines sprinkled throughout the game, but the main questline is painfully underwhelming. It's primarily reduced to fetch quests. The pattern of collecting artifacts followed by traveling to barren planets to solve the same repetitive temple "puzzle" becomes stale very quickly. Moreover, the powers introduced come off as a thinly-veiled imitation of Skyrim's shouts.

    2. The UI Dilemma: Navigating through the UI feels like a chore more than a streamlined experience. Imagine trying to read an alien language while being tickled – that’s how navigating the UI feels. Its clunky design, particularly evident on PC, and a puzzling decision to cap it at 30 fps mars the experience further.

    3. Combat Curveballs: The game can't seem to decide if it wants its enemies to be invincible titans or fragile glass cannons. On ground combat, switching to "very hard" mode becomes a necessity unless you want your foes to drop like flies with a mere pistol shot. However, space combat is the polar opposite – my ship faced annihilation within mere moments of fast-traveling to a new star system, forcing me to opt for "very easy" mode. The balance is, well, unbalanced.

    4. Ship-Building Woes: Designing my ship felt less like NASA and more like assembling IKEA furniture with missing instructions. Crafting the perfect ship turned out to be less of an exciting endeavor and more of a test of patience. With the erratic camera and inexplicable limitations on ship parts, it's an ordeal.

    5. Base-Building Bungles: If you thought ship-building was challenging, wait until you delve into base-building. Rotation issues, unintuitive snapping functions, and the overt emphasis on grind make it a tedious feature.

    6. Planetary Déjà Vu: The planets gave me serious No Man's Sky flashbacks, and not the good post-update kind. I’ve seen more variety in a box of crayons. The monotonous terrains and the occasional copy-paste aliens took away from the thrill of discovery.

    7. Lost Underwater Opportunities: There's no underwater exploration. Why not? They've done it in Skyrim and Fallout. Feels like a significant oversight.

    8. NPCs – Unsettlingly Hilarious: Kudos on the voice acting, but the NPC animations? Imagine chatting with someone who just chugged ten espressos. Bethesda's decision to bypass motion capture in favor of software was a bad choice when compared to the stellar motion capture in Baldur’s Gate 3.

    9. Map Mayhem: I've probably spent hours wandering around, trying to remember where everything is. There's no map for cities, and the galaxy map isn't intuitive as you'll need to memorize it all. Who needs a GPS in space, right?

    10. Fragmented Immersion: The game's dependence on loading screens and isolated zones breaks the immersion consistently, a letdown for players seeking a seamless space or open world experience.

    11. Interstellar Insects: While Starfield isn't the bug-infested apocalypse that Fallout 76 was, it's not bug-free either. NPCs launching skyward to merge with ceilings is oddly a regular phenomenon. And while many glitches are solvable with a game restart, some are not. An instance had me stumped when a quest wouldn't trigger its next stage. The fix? Console commands, which are PC exclusive and deactivate those sweet achievements. A tough choice for a gamer to make!

    12. Woke Overkill: The game's heavy-handed approach to pushing its political agenda is not just unwelcome but is also immersion-breaking. Starfield's narrative sometimes feels like being cornered at a space party by someone who REALLY wants to discuss their political views. Beam me out, Scotty!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    * RTX 3070 8GB - Doesn't matter...
    * 32GB RAM @3200MHZ - Doesn't matter...
    * Samsung nvme SSD - Doesn't matter...

How the hell is this underperforming you ask, well let me tell you, a garbage game engine and lazy optimization.

Let's get passed the stuttery immersion-breaking performance (with DLSS and optimization mods - not much of a difference). Next, I would like to invite you to Bugfield gameplay:
    * Objects spinning out of control.
    * Companion getting stuck on terrain.
    * Objects clipping through doors.
    * Jetpack appearing as if from nowhere, and disappearing when you stop using it???
    * Headless NPCs in conversation.
    * Invisible companion NPC in scripted conversations, probably still stuck somewhere...
    * Bugged enemy AI - Shooting the floor, taking cover while half of their body is open (literally my 8-year-old cousin is better at hiding).
    * Bugged space combat.
    And many many more.

In terms of gameplay, most of it is spent in menus either playing the inventory accountant or "traveling through space" by basically being teleported everywhere...
Oh, and when you land in a city for the first time, the game doesn't have a map, so good luck finding store locations.

This game literally insults your intelligence by trying to waste your valuable time with random tasks like fetch quests. 0 innovation whatsoever.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this trash altogether and go spend your valuable time playing something else.

I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
