This game is absolutely majestic. There's no way it's under 90. It is an incredible, great RPG, with a space setting that has never been achieved in the history of video games. The only way you can't like this game is if you don't like the RPG genre or the space theme. There's no other way. This game will go down in history. Without a doubt, the greatest game Bethesda has created.

But for some reason (I don't know why) there is a lot of hatred for Xbox and JUST FOR THAT reason some people give it low ratings. Believe me. If you play this game, there is no way you won't like it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's FO4 in space. If you liked FO4, or Skyrim, it's that, but better, bigger, less buggy, better looking and generally improved in every sense. And yes, it has the mod platform that made everyone happy. Yes, there's already SkyUI and THOSE mods.

WARNING: The sheer scale of it makes the game slow to start and it has very little handholding. Either this is for you or it isn't. 1000 planets. The mid planets take an hour to do. Rich planets can take 10. THIS TAKES TIME.

I have no idea why people compare this to other space games. It was never going to be Fortnite, it was never going to be Elite Dangerous. It's made by Bethesda. You're getting a Bethesda RPG. Through and through.

And I hate to see it, maybe the review trend will turn, but for now it's enveloped in people complaining that mechanics that are in the game aren't in the game. This is an RPG. You need to put points in Piloting to be able to pilot. You need to put points into jetpack to get traversal and fly. And you need to be 30 hours in to start getting superpowers.

So word to the wise, skip reviews that are basically "boring I have it 5 hours, didn't like".
Also skip "it looks terrible" crowd, game self-adjusts quality to maintain framerate so it works on a potato but looks terrible.

Outside of main story (which was bad anyways) the game is empty and boring.
Graphics are not consistent, some areas look great and most of them look outdated like 10 years behind.
Gunplay is weak. There is no space exploration whatsoever. Quests are boring - go to A then B then A then C that's all. Lots of bugs and bad optimization. Very weak dialogs - objectively those are worst

I've been a huge fan of Bethesda games since I first played The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I loved the freedom to explore a vast and open world, and the endless possibilities for character customization. So when I heard that Bethesda was making a space RPG, I was beyond excited.

Starfield did not disappoint. It is everything I had hoped for and more. The game world is absolutely massive, with over 1,000 planets to explore. Each planet is unique, with its own climate, terrain, and inhabitants. There are also hundreds of space stations and other locations to discover.

The character customization is just as impressive. You can choose your character's appearance, background, skills, and abilities. This allows you to create a character that is truly your own.

The gameplay is also top-notch. The combat is satisfying, and the exploration is rewarding. There are tons of quests to complete, and each one is unique. You can also choose to focus on the main story, or explore the galaxy at your own pace.

The graphics are stunning, and the sound design is immersive. The music is also excellent, and it really helps to set the mood.

Overall, Starfield is an incredible game. It is a must-play for any fan of open-world RPGs. I highly recommend it.

Here are some specific things that I loved about Starfield:

The sense of scale: The game world is so vast and expansive, it's truly awe-inspiring. I felt like I could get lost in it for hours on end.
The freedom of exploration: I loved being able to go anywhere I wanted, and do anything I wanted. There were no restrictions or limitations.
The character customization: I loved being able to create my own character, and make them look and play however I wanted.
The quests: The quests were all well-written and engaging, and I always felt like I was making a difference in the world.
The combat: The combat was satisfying and challenging, and I always felt like I had to be on my toes.
The graphics: The graphics were stunning, and the game world looked amazing.
The sound design: The sound design was immersive, and really helped to set the mood.
The music: The music was excellent, and it really added to the experience.
I could go on and on about all the things I loved about Starfield, but I think you get the point. This game is a masterpiece, and it's one of the best games I've ever played. If you're a fan of open-world RPGs, then you absolutely need to play Starfield.

In Skyrim and Fallout you had dramatic introductions ... emerging from that cave after escaping a dragon, emerging from the sewers after the assassination of the Emperor, emerging from vault 101 after the escape of your father. Not so in Starfield, there is no emergence or anything with soul, there is no "Oh, wow" moment and that shallowness continues throughout the entire game ... of which I have 70 hours played.

The quests are bland, the dialogue is just horrible. The music is average at best. There's a certain lack of "deus" in the machine. It doesn't grab you, it isn't warm, it's distant and remote. Plodding and boring. Key elements such as settlement building have no real purpose and are obtuse and difficult.

Gameplay is an endless series of loading screens. You may experience regular CTD and other issues unless you lock your FPS to 60.

On top of this the game has been styled from the bottom up to be a showcase of modern social justice pieties. From the composition of the populations to the fact that 85% or more of dialogue is going to be with women. Sometimes it's like the game has been set at a baby shower that never ends. Already the champions of that movement are declaring the success of the game as a success for their movement, disproving the claims of their opponents that you lose money if you adopt their creed.

So you have a game that might have been a 7 on its own merits dragged further down by the obnoxious adoption of a faddish political movement, which constitutes a non-stop distraction and irritation.

This game is at best a 4, and I'd recommend you don't waste your time or your money on it.

Shooting feels better but enemies are incredibly easy. They barely react. "Exploration" is almost nonexistent. It's not open world. You just load from instance to instance over and over. Story is incredibly overhyped and boring. It doesn't really evolve as you play. Overall the whole game is boring. I've never felt so aimless in a Beth game before. You honestly just stop giving a **** because it's this drab back and forth with nothing of consequence. Character creator is good imo, builds are **** The stuff you pick doesn't feel impactful in general gameplay at all. Space flight is absolute **** You can't really explore space at all. The dialogue is the standard quippy modern fair. NPCs look awful as usual. Many locations are empty "mobs spawn here" zones with nothing much else. It's just a very bland game.

They dont really have a personality, unless they are part of a quest that require them to have one.

Exploration is useless. Main hub are fine. New Atlantis and Neon are fun to explore, but the thousands of planet advertised are empty. The point of interest on them are bland and re-used. Every "abandonned mine" is the exact same, down to loot container and enemy placement. Not just that look similar, they are exactly the same. I encountered multiple of them, on the same planet. just to fly to another planet and encounter another one.

Planet survey are boring and repetitive. They dont grant you anything meaningful. You never encounter any quest while going them, Your just running around for 45 minutes searching for the last animal you need to complete it so you can get paid.

Skill are as bland as they come. No more do you have to use a skill to make it better. You get one skill point every level, put it in whatever you want.

Random event are repetitive. Every now and then you get hailed by a ship, but they are only a few scenario that can unfold. Before long, you dont even answer because you dont care anymore.

Gearing is boring. You get 10 type of weapon, most of which is in the balistic category. So just regular gun. There a few laser weapon and explosive, but nothing interesting like mini nuke

Enemy are repetitive. There are 4 type: Spacer, Pirate, Ecliptic and Robot. The first 3 are the exact same. The alien barely ever play a role. Even the big bad terrormorph are complete pushovers.

Space is merely a front and serve no real purpose gameplay wise. Dogfight are boring and repetitive, the sense of scale dont exist.

Starfield feel like an empty box. What you imagine it to be is a lot more fun than what it actually is. It is bland, uninspired, generic and repetitive. I do not recommend to anyone. Specially not to people that played better Bethesda title in the past. Modders might make it a worthwhile investment in a few years because everything need to be improved in this game.

    I gave Fallout 4 6/10 and Fallout 76 2/10 so i decided to give this one 4/10.

the ship combat feels weak also and something you will get annoyed by
the story felt weak as well with you being forced to play 12 hours of slop boring stuff to even get to the "good stuff"

Yes, the game is not perfect. It does have its flaws, like loading screens and the occasional wonky NPC that shambles by. But having said that, it's still the most fun I've had with a game all year. This is easily my Game of the Year as it even beats out Zelda: TOTK, in my opinion.

If you go into this looking for No Man's Sky you'll be disappointed. If you go into it looking for a Bethesda RPG, there's a lot to love. It's a Bethesda RPG through and through. Lots of quests, side quests, random encounters, emergent storytelling, etc. You can even be a space pirate and attack and board ships and then steal their ship and make it your own. If you're into base-building and ship-building there's a lot to love here too, but I haven't dabbled too much into that.

It's also worth noting that this is the most bug-free game Bethesda has ever had at launch, which is fantastic. I haven't noticed many bugs and have had zero crashes. Some people don't want to mention this because they're sadists and want to punish Bethesda for past offenses from decades ago. I ask you, if you're a teacher and a student who consistently gets D's starts to work hard and then gets an A, do you continue to punish the child for their failures of the past or do you congratulate them for a job well done? A decent, sane person would congratulate them. Only a psychopath would continue to punish them.

It's also worth noting that this is the most beautiful game Bethesda has done. Yes, some character models are weird, but the environment art, from the natural landscapes to the cluttered base interiors, is sublime. Their Global Illumination techniques are gorgeous and work very well. Sure, the game isn't as pretty as Cyberpunk or Horizon Forbidden West, but so what? This game is doing so much more than them.

Instead of focusing on the few things the game doesn't do, focus on all the things this game is actually doing. And it isn't any one thing. You need to see the forest for the trees and see the totality of the experience. Sure, you can't directly fly from planet to planet like NMS, but who cares? NMS doesn't have the some degree of role-playing quests and storytelling. And most of NMS's planets have one biome, whereas some of Starfield's planets have up to 4 distinct biomes on one planet.

I love this game more with each passing day. It's a genuinely special experience and if you like CRPGs it is very much worth your time. It gives as much as you put in.

Note: I've been playing on both XBox and PC.

The traveling from planet to planet feels insignificant because there is no real navigating or piloting outside of picking a point on a map and clicking Travel. While I was walking around on the surface of a planet, I kept getting stuck in divots that my character couldn't get out of. The combat is familiar in that it feels like a Bethesda game, moreso Fallout than ES. The hook for why we are progressing through the main campaign doesn't really land, and I found myself having to stay motivated to see what happens next. The Constellation group got me excited about exploration...before i actually started "exploring." I am about 5 hours into it, which isn't a LOT, I confess, but it is enough that I should feel engaged with the worlds around me, or care about the direction of the plot, not wondering when it will get exciting. I am gonna keep going because I need to make sure I am not missing something. Expand

Starfield Review - A Disappointing Space Odyssey
Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios' long-awaited space RPG, has finally hit the shelves. Unfortunately, this galactic adventure has left much to be desired, earning a lackluster 6 out of 10.
    The Bad:
    1. Endless Loading Screens: Starfield is plagued by excessively frequent loading screens that disrupt the flow of the game. The frequent interruptions detract from the overall experience.
    2. No Seamless Travel: Despite the vastness of its universe, Starfield fails to deliver seamless travel between planets and space stations. Instead, players are forced to endure more loading screens when traveling between celestial bodies, making the game feel disjointed.
    3. Buggy Mess: Bethesda's reputation for releasing buggy games remains intact with Starfield. The game is riddled with technical issues, ranging from game-breaking bugs to bizarre graphical glitches. These problems are inexcusable for a studio of Bethesda's caliber.
    4. Encumbrance System: Starfield's encumbrance system is frustrating and punitive, making inventory management a chore. It stifles exploration and detracts from the enjoyment of the game.
    5. Missing Maps: Starfield lacks comprehensive maps for its various planets and locations, leaving players feeling lost and disoriented in its sprawling universe. This absence of navigational aids hampers the overall experience.
    6. Missing Vehicles: While the game's universe offers the potential for exciting vehicle-based exploration, Starfield falls short in delivering a variety of vehicles for players to enjoy. This lack of diversity in transportation options limits the sense of adventure.
    The Mediocre:
    1. Ambitious Universe: Starfield's universe is indeed vast and visually impressive. However, it's ultimately a beautiful but hollow shell, lacking the depth and interactivity that would truly make it shine.
    2. Immersive Worldbuilding: While the game's lore and worldbuilding are extensive, they don't make up for the lackluster storytelling and underdeveloped characters. The potential for a rich narrative is squandered in favor of a generic space opera.
    3. Spaceflight Mechanics: While spaceflight controls are serviceable, they lack the depth and challenge that would have made them truly engaging.
    4. Repetitive Side Content: Starfield's side activities quickly become monotonous, offering little in the way of variety or excitement. The universe may be vast, but it often feels empty and devoid of meaningful content.
In summary, Starfield is a game that promised to be an epic space adventure but falls disappointingly short. The loading screens, lack of seamless travel, and numerous technical issues hinder what could have been an immersive experience. Coupled with a frustrating encumbrance system, missing maps, and a lack of diverse vehicles, Starfield's flaws far outweigh its few redeeming qualities. It's a missed opportunity, and one can't help but feel that Bethesda could have done better. Maybe future patches will fix these problems and make the game, what it should have been to begin with.

There is no spirit of exploration and adventure because there is no open space, and the same research points are very similar on planets. In Elden Ring, like Zelda, has a spirit of adventure and exploration. Those games don't have "thousands" of lines of dialogue, "thousands" of planets. You are always wondering "what is there?". And starfield can't offer you that. CTRL+C location that you have already cleared. All of the Bethesda games, this game has the most boring main story and sometimes illogical. It's 2023 and the studio still hasn't gotten rid of loading screens in 7 years of development. Almost every action is a loading screen. Maybe in the future the game will become more interesting with a survival mode and mods. Now, this is a boring grind on empty planets.

Only for good shooting, excellent interior design and equipment I put 5/10

Visuals are a step up from any previous Bethesda Game, gun mechanics are pretty damn good, not COD type because it's not trying to be a competitive shooter. both 3rd person modes are great as well. You can see the love that was poured into this game with all items, perfectly crafted. lighting is superb as well.
This is easily Game Of The Year Material and will be more played game of the year.

Arguably the worst single player Bethesda game ever made. Terrible soapy graphics with a green filter that makes your eyes tired. NPCs are terribly stupid, quests are not interesting and there are a lot of loading screens, outdated graphics, the game is not optimized. Terribly boring game and it's not an RPG.. It's not worth 100 euros. For me, Bethesda is completely dead...

Bethesda shows us again that marketing means more than development. Sweat off the hype surrounding space exploration, take a giant leap back, and observe what has really been provided to us here. Starfield is about exploring space, or at least that was what it was supposed to be about. You will often find yourself repeating the same fetch quests over and over once you complete the mind numbing overly long tutorial. Once you get in to the groove though, you quickly find out that the game contains much repetition broken up by the same loading screens, and that you are not as free as you thought you would be. Quests will be to teleport (quick travel) to a location that resembles the same as before it, walk a short distance, shoot the bodies in front of you, loot and return. You are unable to freely fly your ship anywhere you want, nor can you land anywhere on a planet that you want. In fact, if you land the same place twice, the planet will look different. The game procedurally generates a "random" tile to which you can walk, just don't walk to far because there are invisible walls. You can not even see the towns in the background. Gunplay is nice and tight, however quickly becomes underwhelming when you realize most weapons feel the same, but some with a zoom option. The enemies will not run for cover or show any signs of intelligence as you blast their faces off. Jumping and moving super slow .. because you know, gravity? .. This only adds to the frustratingly boring slow paced gameplay and story. Designing your own base or ship you would think would be fun, but it is not. The clunky system and process is tedious and is not rewarding. The level-up / reward / skill system seems interesting, but plagued by bugs and glitches as is the entire game quickly becomes the same... more annoying than rewarding. Overall, this half baked experience seems like it was pulled out of the oven way too soon. Gamers alike want to love it, as it is a popular release and set in space, what is there not to love? Unfortunately, this game falls flat on its face and feels more like multiple mini games stuck together with extremely long loading screens. Each as equally bad as the other. Don't even get me started on the graphics or inventory system, yikes! Expand

i gave Starfield a fair chance. Its rather jarring that the core BGS dev team is so unwilling to evolve for so many years threading the same ground. The facial animation is just a disgrace. Why is it so bad? The camera in dialog is static, it was still like that in Morowind in 2001, now games are trying to compete with movies in cinematography, and Todd still has 2001.

Dialogs and text in the game. It's no different from Fallout 4, as I wrote above, because of the facial animations, it's impossible to perceive anything from these characters, it's a lean text, in some places with secondary humor, which causes only Spanish shame. And the options are no different from "yes" "no" "sarcasm", just in a different wrapper

"Space travel" We were so advertised space and ship customization, and I was delighted, space travel and everything connected with it, what could be cooler. And what did I get! You cannot enter the atmosphere of the planet on your own and sit where you want, you cannot fly out of it on your own, you cannot fly a ship around the planet, you cannot fly from one planet to another, asking why you need a spaceship, just press Fast Travel and all.
A loading screen for every action, even entering a ship, and that's in 2023 with SSDs and GPUs with more memory, "the most powerful console in the world" as the clowns say.

The story is again a dull narrative about the chosen one, and you realize it in the first hour of the game, when you are given a whole ship for nothing and accepted, without any questions in a secret society, it pissed me off back in 2016. Is it hard to hire Chris Evelon, or pride does not allow it, and TODD?

"We will have 1000 planets" So I imagined that it will be like No Man Sky only with AAA grapheon with flora and fauna. And we were lied to again, empty planets with outposts where you have to run 1000m in one direction and 1000m in the other, and on which nothing interesting, they are even worse than in No Man Yes and also here there is no transportation, even in Mass effect 1 2005 it was, 2023 it is not))).
Exploring planets is pointless and makes you want to commit suicide.

Action and AI. No revelations: if you've played Fallout 4, you'll get the same experience. shooting has no effect, it's just plugging stupid enemies that just bunch up so that they can be blown up by a grenade or get stuck in a texture, they are not even able to bypass the player, they are just stupid at all, unacceptable

Stealth in the game is broken, I won't describe it much here, but it's true. Enemies see and hear you from 1km away, and detect you instantly, it's just not interesting and interactive, a waste of time and nerves

The character leveling is the worst in Bethesda history. Let's start with the logic, a character can research and craft simple things without a skill, but a jetpack cannot be used without a skill.
As was the case in Skyrim, during the game you increased your skill by opening access to perks, and you could buy these perks with pumping points, but here you need to pass stupid tests for further pumping, and as a result, the game turns not into a fun shooting game, but into a dull monotonous execution these trials, boredom and despondency

The interface is typical for Bethesda, not convenient and not practical. The map is also something with something, this is especially noticeable in cities, for whom it was created is not clear, unacceptable

If it came out with the title Fallout 5, no one would say anything bad, a typical Bethesda game. But they lied about space and everything connected with it, promised that this game would be a breakthrough for the company, and that we would get a contender for the game of the year. This game is 10 years out of date, and it's sad for me to realize that Microsoft allowed such an advertising campaign, and went on hype for it. With exclusives like Redfall and Starfield, it will take them 10 years to catch up with current Sony exclusives.

Starfield system requirements are exaggerated even for today AAA games, despite the game outdated engine. Starfield is also a great example of how AAA game developers today dont value optimization. While developing this game, they didnt think about anyone with average and above average systems. Until Starfield, I had never seen a game that aggressively imposed such high system requirements.

You cannot make a successful game by ignoring a player base that makes up a large part of the world. You cant assume that every PC gamer has, or has to have, a RTX 4090/7900 XTX and a system of its caliber. It is unrealistic for game developers to expect every PC gamer to have a high-end system. Because even the graphics your game offers dont match your requirements. There are dozens of games released 10 years ago that look much better than Starfield. Great graphics alone do not make a game good. Graphics are not a priority for every gamer.

Even if Starfield is the best looking game in the world, it cant be a good game with this optimization and content. I dont want to see games with high graphics on the outside but empty inside. You can impress gamers who dont understand games with just graphics, but games are more than that and real gamers know that. But no game released without optimization in this way has ever been successful.

Even though there are so many examples and Bethesda had similar problems in their previous games, they never learned a lesson. Not to mention the bugs and glitches, it was already expected to be released this way. Classic Bethesda always makes technically broken games. Bethesda didnt try to make a good and memorable game.

Their only concern was to make a game that didnt live up to expectations with astronomical requirements in order to make more money for their sponsors, the computer parts manufacturers. They want todays PC gamers to have higher systems so that more next gen games with terrible optimizations can be developed. Otherwise they cant reduce the cost and time of development or sell new graphics cards and CPUs. I dont respect or support these goals of companies.

There is a lot to criticize about the content of the game, but for me the gameplay is more important and since the game is currently unplayable due to optimization, there is no need to talk about other aspects.
Bethesda needs to stop using the Creation Engine as soon as possible. We have seen another game that turned into a disaster because of this engine. Bethesda just dont want to see it.

Starfield will probably be playable after a few years of updates, DLCs and expanded mod support, until then, goodbye...

And then there are backgrounds, and it's just great that you can make the character you want, and you can do what you want
then I start doing some quests and exploring then I'm like ohh I want to make a ship then I explore in my new ship then a space battle happens and the space battles are fun when you get the hang of it then you start building an outpost looking what materials I need and how to link them together, so it's all automated and trying to make it look good and next thing I know I'm 70+ hours in. I can tell you that this game if you give it time and do side quests and explore and go in with an open mind you will have the time of your life
but of course it's not perfect and yes it does seem a bit short plus (but that could also just be because I had such a good time that it seemed short) there are a few bugs I've encountered and yes they can be annoying but once you get past it its fine again, and I have crashed 2 times but other than that I've had an amazing time and I have like 8GB graphics card and 32GB ram and an i7, so I don't have like an extremely expensive pc, and I'm happy with the game and there just so much to do also I've never hit a planet boundary I know that most content creators and other people are complaining about the loading screens and planet boundaries, but I explored a planet for a good 1 to 2 hours and never hit it but of course I didn't go in a straight line, but personally I don't think it's an issue most people are not going to encounter the boundaries unless they are trying to.
And the loading screen aren't a problem most games have some sort of loading screen in them even most games today and this game is like 100x bigger than most games, so it's kinda expected yk.
I would recommend this game to anyone who wants to have fun and yes it's my new fave game and I didn't sleep for 2 days because I was playing this game.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
