    There's no space trip at all: only hopping from one planet to another plagued by loading. That's why so many early players made fun of this game by calling out "Loading-field." Perhaps it is more prudent to wait for discounts rather than risk your money by trying to play it right now. Certain that this game will be on sale very soon given its underwhelming performance and overpricing.

    My favorite type of games are the ones that drop you into an interesting universe and say, “Go. Do anything and everything you can think of. React to this world and it’ll react to you.” That is why, for a long time, Skyrim has been my favorite game ever made. That is also why Starfield has been a fantastic experience, and a game I will continue playing for a very, very long time.

    Bethesda has created amazing worlds for people to immerse themselves in; and Starfield is no exception. The visuals and animations are much improved from Fallout 4, with more dynamic facial expression and hand movements. The textures and lighting are beautiful here as well, with a really unique vibe. I can go and do so many different and wide-ranging things, live in a dream home, build my own custom spaceship, marry a character I’ve gone on interesting adventures with, build an outpost on a random moon, say hi to my parents, and join the military. You are absolutely getting your money’s worth.

    enter your ship - > loading screen , Npcs really really out of emotions , story cant be immersive if you just look at clay dolls with moving mouths talking to you. No exploration , all content repetitive . if you just play you will have fun if you pay 10 usd for this game , but not 100 . This is not a AAA game , this is just a game made to sell.

I've been traversing different galaxies for a thrilling 29 hours, lost among the stars. Akila City has become my newfound sanctuary. I find solace in the music and the rugged atmosphere of this sandy outpost. One evening, while sipping a drink at a local bar, I peruse the numerous reviews of Starfield, and it's almost surreal. Is it odd that I lose myself in the cosmos, finding genuine joy in exploration?

    My mind often drifts back to the days of Fallout 4, but Starfield has rekindled that same sense of wonder and excitement. It's been ages since I woke up in the morning with a video game on my mind, but Starfield has reignited that passion. The music, the enthralling side quests, and the engaging gameplay, it all coalesces seamlessly. Sure, the menus in space might be a tad overwhelming, but overall, I'm in my element!

    I can't help but feel that Bethesda has outdone themselves with this one. Starfield has not only captured my attention but also my heart, much like Oblivion and Skyrim did in the past. It's a testament to the enduring magic of immersive worlds and captivating narratives. Bethesda, thank you for bringing back the kind of gaming experience I thought was long gone.

    That said, it is not a bad game, even if it is extremely bare bones at the moment. You can go pretty much everywhere you see - via a menu - but sadly, there isn't that much to "see" on the way - in space, that is, which is a big part of space travel, yes? - as every time you hop aboard your ship to switch planets/moons/systems, you're treated to a quickly very repetitive cut-scene and loading screen. You spend very little time on your ship considering how much that is a part of star-faring.
    There is a veritable ton of quests and little events, ranging from your usual go-there-and-find-this to surveying to bounty hunting, nothing earthshaking but there is at least an attempt at variety there, even if the specific details for quests aren't that spectacular and, if you do quests of a similar type, they become a monotonous blur interspersed by loading screens. The main quest moves on tracks, though, so if you're expecting the sort of freedom you may have found thrilling in a game that starts with the letter "B" and ends in the numeral "3", cast away that hope. You, the player, in terms of the main questline, are a hound the npcs point in a direction. You are, of course, free to ignore the main quest entirely - which you can't do in that other game - so... yeah.
    Long story short, this is a Bethesda game, at launch. As we all know, these games become great, both in looks and in in-depth content, after the players make them great. Bethesda just creates the framework, and they've done so relatively bug free for a Bethesda game, here. (Although my game crashed the moment i launched it for the first time, which made me laugh, it hasn't crashed again or encountered any game-breaking bugs after that.)
    I don't really see why people are so up in arms about Starfield being the best or the worst Bethesda title, as, in its current blank-*loading*-state, it sits quite comfortably in the middle, waiting to see how far the modding community will take it. And there is much, much more room here than in Skyrim.
    That being said, the price tag for what is technically a beautiful frame with the bare outlines of a painting is steep. The time spent in development is no excuse, seeing how much of it has been outsourced to who knows where.
    Hopefully, this one goes the way Skyrim did, which depends largely on the community. Is that good company policy for a gargantuan studio? Perhaps not. Go figure.

    * Extremely glitchy physics (extreme recoil on death, etc).
    * Very buggy.
    * Uninspired dialogues with meaningless choices (similar to Fallout 4).
    * God-awful UI/UX.
    * Greedy corporate behaviour surrounding the release (e.g. early access just for the sake of milking money)
    * Poorly done procedural content generation.
    * An insane amount of rehashing of environments with zero variation.
    * Very bad writing.
    * Terrible lack of options (no FOV slider, no gamma etc sliders, limited graphics options, etc).
    * Bad optimization (don't expect to be able to play at a smooth and consistent 120+ FPS at 4K).
    * Bad shading (there's an awful tonemapping that crushes blacks and makes everything a washed out mess + color banding galore).
    * Broken HDR in 2023.
    * Constant load screens.
    * All the environments feel like isolated areas, ruining immersion.
    * It's a Bethesda game.
    * Many of the "critic" reviews have definitely been bought.
    * Kinda meh progression.
    * NPCs are extremely static (not much life-like scheduling and behaviour).
    * Soulless.

    The not bad:

    * Seems to run fairly well on Linux with Proton/DXVK.
    * It's an uncommon setting-genre combo.
    * It's moddable.
    * It has some potential far down the line.
    * Some environments are fairly pretty, despite the dated graphics.

    TL;DR:

    It's extremely bad as a space sim (play Elite or X3 instead).
    It's bad as an RPG (play Baldur's Gate 3, New Vegas, Mass Effect 2, or something else instead).
    It's bad as a shooter.

    Save your money or wait for multiple patches and mod maturation before playing this overpriced garbage.

    Bethesda has knocked it out of the park again with their latest epic.

    If you know anything about Bethesda, you know that they don't do small. And let me tell you, Starfield is the BIGGEST game they have made. All of their previous games combined could fit on the smallest moon in this well-crafted galaxy. But it all starts with YOU, the player. One of the first thing you will do in Starfield is decide who you want to be, and the possibilities are endless. You can customize every little detail about your look in Bethesda's best character creator to date. Then you may pick from a large variety of backgrounds that provide you with starting skills and unique dialogue options throughout the game to really play your role. You can also pick three special traits that impact rhe entire game. Some provide new content to interact with and some give you powerful bonuses with drawbacks. But you're not locked in to anything. If you don't like your traits, there are immersive ways to remove them. For example if you picked the trait that gives you a mansion to live in but also a hefty mortgage, you can allow the bank to foreclose so that you don't need to worry about it anymore. You can practice and level up any skill you want regardless of background, so you can truly do what you want.

    And there are over a thousand planets! About 10% of them feature native life and biological ecosystems to interact with, while the majority are "barren", as they are in the real universe. Don't worry; you are able to tell from a simple menu whether a planet has what you're looking for before you even decide to land on one, so your time will never be wasted. But even those barren planets are full of things to explore. Outposts of homesteaders, abandoned facilities, fascinating natural geological phenomena, and of course abundant resources realistically scattered across even the "deadest" planet. You can even build your own outposts with a surprisingly deep system to extract and transport resources automatically, craft powerful items, or just relax and read a book after a long trip across the galaxy. You can even stock them with any of the dozens of NPCs in the game that can join your crew, really making it come alive as they provide bonuses to its operations based on their skills.

    Speaking of NPCs, this is another area where Bethesda outdid themselves. Cities are more alive and bustling than ever before, and there are hundreds if not thousands of unique personalities to interact with. If you've played any Bethesda game before you know one of the best features is the ability to join various guilds and factions that flesh up the world, enjoy their unique quests and storylines, and rise the ranks. In Starfield that is no different. Will you be a ranger, protecting freedom throughout the territories of the collective? Perhaps you will work for a megacorporation and become a cutthroat businesswoman or engage in corporate espionage to ensure your company comes out on top. Will you collect mysterious artifacts and explore the cosmos with a group of adventurers. Will you be an honorable member of the vanguard, defending innocents from pirates? Or will you be a pirate yourself, wreaking mayhem across the galaxy and taking valuable loot from ships in space? You'll meet all sorts of colorful characters along the way. Will they be your friends? Your enemies? Your victims? Maybe you'll even find love out there in the galaxy. The choice, as always, is yours.

    Ah yes. Space. The setting of the game. Bethesda has masterfully crafted a galaxy and gives you the tools to truly do whatever you want in it. Space is BIG and you could fly for literal days between two planets in a star system if you wanted to, but thanks to a smooth and immersive fast travel system you can easily get to the action. Between star systems you need to grav jump, as the distances are truly astronomical. As you upgrade and customize your ship, you can increase its range to chart out the most distant stars. But be careful, there's danger lurking too. Pirates patrol the orbits of trafficked planets. You're going to need to be able to defend yourself, and that's where Starfield's masterful ship customization system comes in. Equip and upgrade lasers, ballistics, missiles, and more to dominate the skies, or keep it lightweight and focus on a speedy engine to fly circles around your foes in a dogfight. Build habitats for you and your crew to stretch your legs on your vessel. Make it yours. I would say the sky is the limit, but you'll be flying far above the skies!

    This review has barely even scratched the surface of the things you can do in Starfield. The crafting, the crime system, the random encounters both in space and land, the impressive arsenal of weapons and space suits with gorgeous design and unique effects. I haven't even touched on the main story to avoid spoilers. I can't stress enough how well-realized this universe is.

    Just play Starfield. Now.

Basically, the main reason I am still playing the game is because the loot hunt and upgrading the weapons/gear/ships is fun, but this feels like a game designed in 2011 and released in 2023. It's honestly kind of embarrassing Bethesda has not tried to improve their formula considering the games that have come out in more recent years.

    As is, this game is a 7 out of 10 at most, with a chance for improvement from either mods or Bethesda themselves (already using various interface and QoL mods that improve the game, but Bethesda doesn't get credit for work they didn't do, but that modders could do in less than a week). I can't believe anyone rating it a 9 or 10 out of 10 is being honest about the game, and may just be willfully ignoring all the faults that it has. It has so many issues when compared to modern games from the past 5 or so years, which is fine, I think it's a 6.5 and I'm still mostly enjoying it, but that doesn't mean I can't be honest about the technical shortcomings of the game.

    Pros
    - Combat is fun. Not as good as a dedicated shooter, but compared to previous Bethesda RPG's it's excellent.
    - Weapon and gear customization is fun
    - Exploring around the world dungeons and buildings is fun, although there are plenty of times where there is a large distance between waypoints and traveling on foot (jetpack is the same speed) gets old
    - Ship upgrades and building are pretty fun
    - Being able to hijack ships seems neat, but so far seems not worth it since you barely make any money on them, unless you somehow find an awesome ship

    Cons
    - The inventory system is TERRIBLE.
    - Very poorly optimized.
    - Lots of loading screens, even to small rooms with little inside them.
    - Bethesda style dialogue, which means usually mediocre writing while staring at an NPC talking at you.
    - The game doesn't really feel like you're exploring space, more like you're exploring zones.
    - Dated character models and animations. This game does not look up to quality for a AAA 2023 title.
    - Limited graphical options on PC.
    - The explorable areas don't generally feel 'alive'. In general the open world does not feel 'real' or 'lived in'.
    - The amount of different types of ammo is kind of annoying, less so that there are so many, and more so that some ammo seems MUCH harder to find than others.
    - Most of the sidequests are just fetch or kill quests (some forcing you to go back and forth between planets or systems), with a few good ones sprinkled in.
    - No Ultrawide Menu support. Many games don't have it, but it's still a con. Hell, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has UW menu support. Also no UW cutscenes.
    - Often companions and NPC's talk over each other, and at times companions talk over themselves, like when they are talking to each other but then a second dialogue happens with one of them talking to me at the same time.
    - No on planet transportation options. After a while travelling on foot everywhere gets old when there are large distances to cover (the boost pack doesn't seem any faster than on foot)
    - When coming out of a load, when on keyboard at least, if you try to move too soon it will not register, and you need to release and re-press the key before you can move.
    - You can wait 24 hours for vendor resets to sell more things, but each hour you wait take 3-4 seconds. You have to sit there for over a minute waiting for something that there is no reason to wait that long for.
    - On the ship there are times when the companions block passageways and it is difficult to get them to move.
    - The game has been mostly bug free for me so far, but there have been plenty of glitches, stuff like doors not be where they're supposed to be, teleporting NPC's, having dialogue with shipping containers as the NPC is on the other side, etc....
    - 30 fps menus and UI elements

    I am enjoying the game overall, but there are a lot of issues, the largest one being performance. There are times I struggle to get over 60 FPS in areas with a mix of Medium and High settings AND FSR2 on. (5800X3d, RX 6800, 32gb 3600, PCIe 4.0 m.2, 3440x1440). That is the main reason that for now, even though I enjoy the game overall, and because of all the issues I listed, I can't recommend others get the game until AT LEAST the performance is improved in patches.

    That said, Todd just had an interview where he said the game IS optimized, and anyone having problems just needs to get better hardware, so...

    I am loving the game. I loved the Fallout series, and this game scratches that itch, with better gun-play. Not sure why some man-children are sending kids to down-vote the game. It is fun, and does exactly what I want a video game to do... occupy my time, and keep me entertained. It does exactly that.

Sadly Starfield seems to have abandoned this for "live another mediocre scifi show" because that's what it feels like. Gone is the expansive, immersive open world previous titles have had you emerge blinking into. Worlds in which you could see a distant mountain and set off with the goal to find it and climb it, discovering along the way countless adventures. Replaced with a quest log, cut scenes and loading screens whisking you from one soulless level to another, sure many technically exist on open world maps but you would be forgiven for not noticing as the relevance it has to the gameplay. If you do decide to "explore" a planet you find nothing but endless tracts of randomly scatted rocks, plants and critters separating icon marked copy pastes of the POIs.

    There is no sense of distance or scale, no permanence or solidity to the world the game proports to put you in. All of which I might forgive if the writing, hand crafted locations and characters were more memorable or coherent but even here the game fails to impress. I can't help but feel like the hard working and skilled folks at Bethesda just didn't have their hearts in this game. I hope they can find their passion and grove again in time for TES6.

    Honestly it isn't terrible and I would give it more than a 4 if it were from a different studio. But this is a Bethesda game, it has to be judged in relation to the likes of TES and Fallout and in that respect it falls so far short of those greats its rather a sad state of affairs.

    -Hasn't crashed once
    -Back to the silent protagonist
    -Highly detailed misc/general items for inspecting in the inventory

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Cons:
    -Outdated Engine and it shows
    -Mod potential shouldn't be relied on to fix the game/add basic features
    -General lifeless NPCs - They don't react - for example: start shooting around New Atlantis, without hitting anyone and they will just continue walking as nothing happened (feels like Cyberpunk 2077 original NPCs before updates)
    -Broken stealth, feels like oblivion stealh - would on occasion get caught even though no one is in the room with me/all doors closed
    -Combat AI is pretty bad. Also lots of clipping and glitching out
    -A few minor bugs, companions running super fast, disappearing, falling through ship etc etc.
    -Loot no longer dynamic on corpses - RNG based.
    -Poor optimisation. RTX 3090 / Ryzen 9 5950x @ 1440p gets around 40-50 FPS while exploring planets and cities however in small closed off areas I get around 80-120 FPS. Also lag when switching weapons, and switching scanner on and off
    -Planet exploration: A lot of copy paste point's of interest - breaks the immersion a lot to have the same exact locations on different planets. Also some are just downright bad and aren't rewarding for the amount of time spent walking there
    -No diving/underwater content
    -Awful UI/Inventory management. Locked to 30FPS so is a bit janky. Mods have fixed this. Highly recommend the compact UI mods on the nexus
    -No local maps which is a huge pain in cities
    -Quest management could be made nicer (Sorting quests into main cities would be great)
    -No vechicles. I don't mind about hitting planet boundaries faster with a hover bike or something. Walking/Jetpacking can get very tedious at times
    -Over reliance on fast travel
    -Way too many essential NPC's, takes immersion away if you wanted to go guns crazy

    Love Bethesda games and have enjoyed Starfield so far but honestly too many cons which shouldn't be a thing for a Bethesda title in 2023. It feels like a step back in many ways, Skyrim had more reactivity from the NPC's and it came out 12 years ago. It's not terrible, but it's not great either.
    If you are looking for a typical Bethesda game and like Fallout 4, you will probably enjoy Starfield. Bethesda haven't innovated or expanded their game design at all with starfield. If we aren't vocal in this, then ES6 will probably be the same .

    Not sure how Bethesda managed to make discovering the universe so lifeless and monotonous, but most of the exploring plays out like this:

    enter your ship - > loading screen -> sit at console and "take off" -> loading screen -> choose new planet -> loading screen -> select landing site on planet -> loading screen -> exit ship -> loading screen -> "explore" procedurally generated planet (kill a few bugs and scan some plants/rocks) -> fast travel back to ship -> loading screen -> go back to step one

    . . . sure, you can skip a few of these steps by traveling directly to another planet thousands of light-years away without even entering your ship - but at that point, why do the planets and galaxy systems even exist if they are simply options in a menu?

    I've played over 300 hours of Fallout 76 because I love the Fallout universe so much, but Starfield just feels so sterile and devoid of the same heart and character that is so present in their other universes. I can even usually ignore the Bethesda "jank" that often accompanies the launch of their games - but something about Starfield's core mechanics seem inherently flawed as well, and I'm not sure I could even explain why. Whether it was the underdeveloped enemy A.I., the poorly designed base building (a giant material storage container can only hold 150 lbs of items, while the safebox in my bedroom can hold infinite), the emotionless (and ugly) character models, the lackluster main story quests, or just the general lack of adventure - Starfield ultimately proves to be an underwhelming RPG that fails to deliver on most of the promises Todd Howard and the marketing team pushed.

    That is not to say that there's nothing good here, the weapon design and shooting mechanics are a vast improvement over their past games, the ship-building is very intuitive, and the scenic landscapes of distant planets and galaxies can be absolutely gorgeous! I just wish I had more of a reason to explore them . . .

    Let me start: I am owner of premium edition so I have been familiar with this production for a few days. First at all I will honestly state that I feel cheated out of $100. And just to be clear, I based my decision to buy not on hype or rumors, but on carefully following official information from the developer, publisher, including their CEOs. So I don't feel like a dumb sucker, but like a person who was deliberately lied to. I want nothing to do with future products with the Microsoft and Bethesda logos. But about that in the summary at the end.

    I begin with technical aspects, because it is easer. In a nutshell: primitive port from consoles. Therefore, VRAM does not exceed 6 GB, and RAM oscillates around 6-8 GB (although on PC 24-32 GB today is not surprising). Hence the constant loading screens, even though the whole thing should sit in memory even though everything works in small instances. And I'm not even mentioning such technical nightmares as the lack of support for proper anti-aliasing in 2023, no DLSS, no Intel ARC GPU support or problems with textures not fully loading, exactly the same as in Forspoken. And that embarrassing performance even on extremely strong configurations with graphics dating back 7 years! How about AI of NPCs and enemies? What AI? What faces animations? What is it? A joke? The whole thing done as off-putting as possible. 3D engine is terrible, I mean terrible outdated and you feel it literally everywhere. Fatal engine, fatal port. And yet, these are only core technical issues, on top of that there is the content, and this content is as if from 2010-2013. It is unacceptable. This way of giving gameplay even comes from the 90's and has nothing to do with current standards. And this applies to the content as well as the form of its delivery, i.e. UI/UX. And it's hard to believe that this is a product released in the year 2023, there are such is the coarseness of everything, feel so cheap, so... lame. Use of Creation Engine while owning the rights to use the id Tech engine. This is lunacy!

    Now we move deeper, and you know what? No alien races, whole Galaxy is open, but there are NOT any other vivid civilizations. The narrative in this game is reminiscent of the work of a 15-year-old for a contest entitled "The story of the world. How I imagine life in 100 years". But, on the other hand, the entire Galaxy we've come to know is purely American: from the architecture, to the disgusting mass culture, to the customs. Where are the cultural differences between the different worlds? Hey, you creators of this carcass without imagination, do you really think that in the future everyone will live in the same cesspool as you today? This is not the 1980s! What is it I ask? WHAT IS IT?! It insults intelligence. Where is the plot? Where do choices matter? It is unbelievable how infantile everything is conveyed and would require an looong and deeep elaboration, but I just don't want to rummage through this rubbish, simply: this is total mess.

    This should be groundbreaking Crysis for the year 2023, not a horribly optimized, archaic product in form and content. This game is in much worse state them Cyberpunk on release because Cyberpunk at least had a good, modern 3D engine and a contemporary gameplay concept.

    This game should never have been released in this state - this is not an indie developer, but the largest software publisher in the world. You can see right through, Microsoft and Bethesda have real problem with internal management, because it is not first blunder this year. Maybe next year something will come of it, if MS does not abandon the project and rebuild this game from the ground up - and I write this completely seriously. For now it is unplayable. This product is a complete mess at this point, it's a beta version, and situations like this gives Microsoft a terrible reputation - again. Something really bad is going on there. Their recent actions resemble management at a market stall, not a multinational corporation. If Microsoft wants to stay in this market as a major player, needs to change something, because the Activision-Blizzard purchase won't help anything if you don't release good products. Of course, in the short term you can count on profits from an uninformed or undemanding customer, but this is a marathon, not a sprint. I am sure, that Starfield discredit will only confirms this.

    And looking at the above I would give a summary rating of 4/10, but in this case I in good conscience give 1/10. Why? Because, let me repeat myself, for months the developer and publisher in their official information simply gave outright lied about whether this product will be. So as owner of premium edition of this game let me summarize: I feel SCAMmed in very bad way which I write utterly honest. Almost everything from the official announcements and official statements turned out to be a lie. Enough is enough.

I have played ESO as a Skyrim fix for over 3000 hours and honestly NPCs there treat you like some idiot, repeating the same lines and lore as if you have no idea what you just did 5 minutes back. Starfield is definitely a welcome change from that.

    The game has a nice start but gets really slow. Due to the extreme nonsensical bullet sponge nature of the game, you are heavily relying on your "LUCK" with drops when killing enemies to get a dope weapon early ortherwise you're in for a tedious time not dealing a lot of damage.

    I've had an encounter that was part of the main quest where I've had dropped a Legendary weapon that was incredibly good, however since I didn't save.. during that same encounter I had died. When the game reloaded the last save, I obviously went to the exact same enemy BUT was rewarded with a blue weapon of a different type instead. Obviously that is fine, however my point is, that it is very RNG heavy to get a good playthrough.

    I've not felt underleveled, in fact I was undergeared. I ended up taking a different route in the game, exploring a ton of Level 1 or 5 plantets in hope of getting decent gear and/or "infinite" AMMO to combat those bullet sponges. Imagine, a Humanoid taking 100+ bullets to actually DIE?? Then getting an upgrade that uses 20-30 bullets instead? Wild. I know, it's a bethesda game but I hoped they would have improved in this department.

    While the search and exploration was tedious... the game made up for it with it's nice worlds and content to explore, I decided to take up on a few side missions which were deep. Some are cool, some have a broken or stupid or braindead plot to them. Over all, I avoided the main story because it was rather mid/boring after retrieving the 2nd or 3rd artifact (I don't remember lol). I had also encountered a ton of bugs in every single quest, also main quest which forced me to reload my previous saves.

    Another huge chunk of my hours into the game was the leveling of perks. These were super weird too. If you look for pirates that are easier to kill with your starter ship, it might be hard as you'd not know where to find them. You need to destroy ships in order to get your piloting skill up. After many hours, I figured out that there is a simulator, that in fact COUNTS your kills toward to the perk system. So you can just level up your perks with no risk in mind. I ended up spamming that for many hours to be ble to buy myself a better ship.

    Let me tell you, the majority of my hours were me trying to find a way to play this game in an enjoyable way, I did enjoy quite a few things, but those things can't outshine the issues the game has. The bugs, the balancing of difficulties, the way drops work towards to your progression, getting enough credits, having to do the crimson fleet quests to get contraband to not be detected on scans and and and. The game can be GOOD but there are flaws in the way.

    Now imagine the vast amount of issues other players and/or creators are talking about. Such as the amount of menu management in the game or always being encumbered, immersion breaking mechanics and and and. The game is totally unfinished and not ready for launch but it was released anyway. It's like we're all BETA testing the game.

    So yes, I will keep playing the game because I spent 100 EUR on it. I want to believe my money wasn't wasted and the further I get into the game I still do not enjoy it. I might at this moment be overleveled, however, with all those bugs and "broken" mechanics, I doubt I'll have much fun. The game can challenge me to change my opinion, until then my verdict is very clear:

    Starfield = messy with lots of bugs ruining a game that could have had potential, maybe one day it deserves a 7+ rating from me.

    I am still playing the game to beat it, if something changes I will edit my review.

    Thanks for reading.

    There's no way this game cost $400 million to make man, it's full of procedurally generated **** trash, dull npc's, above average graphics, inferior exploration compared to indie games with not even 1% of the budget, art direction is great tho and the cities look amazing but man this game is just generic af with a bethesda logo slapped on it !!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game and had a very hard time being immersed and/or having fun in the game. For reference, I played other Bethesda RPG games (ESO, Fallout 3,4 and New vegas, Skyrim)

    I will start with the things I liked:

    Ship customisation
    Some of the premade cities are good (Neon)
    Lockpicking is fun
    Skill tree with the challenges can be fun
    Space combat and docking feels fresh at the start
    Some guns feel nice to shoot

    Cons:
    Combat is very bland and the AI is terrible
    Poor performance (FPS)
    UI is terrible and managing inventory doesn’t feel satisfying (I do like weight in games, but this does it all wrong)
    No city maps or a map in general ?????????
    Tons of bugs (most bug free Bethesda game apparently???)
    Keybinds feel very off, thankfully you can customise most of it
    Hit registration of weapons feels really bad, you can be point blank with a shotgun and miss.
    Lack of special mob types (bosses) SPOILERS there are Humans(with different colour stripes), Star Humans, and the critters. That’s it
    Loading Screen simulator, no real landing/docking. All I did is press L track quest and then clicked show on map then just kept tping.
    Very boring and predictable gameplay loop (There is one main story mission that is the exception to this rule)
    SPOILERS AHEAD Star powers are very boring, mostly around gravity and affecting time, and can only have one equipped. This feels very bland vs something like bioshock
    The plot had no weight and expected you to care about characters you met for 5 minutes.
    Planets feel very empty, desolate wastelands. And when you reach a point of interest, it's the same loop. Go into the dungeon, kill the same mob type and loot and leave. No special enemies, nothing. They are the terrible end of procedurally generated content.
    Companions feel annoying to have around and the voice acting feels off and the classic Bethesda face animations(This feels unforgivable after BG3)
    Music feels very uninspired and boring
    Managing guns feels very tedious.

    I can keep going, but you get the idea. If you’re curious about this game and have game pass try it out, but I do not recommend buying this game. I felt like I got robbed and lying Todd lied again.

9/10 Expand

If you like a slow burn, a massive galaxy to explore, seemingly endless quests, good quality faction quests, and finding surprises around every corner, you’ll probably quite enjoy this.

    It’s a solid game that I especially recommend to those who like Bethesda style RPGs, but I was initially disappointed—it didn’t give me the same sense of awe or a sense of urgency like Oblivion/Skyrim or Baldur’s Gate 3 did, though it’s a very different premise so I suppose it makes sense. Still, I’m having a blast playing it. I’ve put in over 50 hours and feel I’ve barely scratched the surface—it’s an enormous game with so many quests and options to branch out. For that alone it’s well worth it.

    Things I like:

    - Gorgeous settings with incredible attention to detail. You can feel the love the developers put into every hand-crafted explorable area. There are so many surprises too—some that made me laugh out loud.
    - The freedom to do whatever I want, go in any direction I want, with less hand holding than previous titles.
    - Ship and outpost customization.
    - The fast travel system. I didn’t want a space sim, so the way you can select your mission destination from the cockpit and go was a great design choice in my opinion that gives me the feeling of navigating through space.
    - The option to explore new worlds with the star map via the menu or through the navigation table on my ship works well and I find the system intuitive. Load screens take a couple of seconds and don’t bother me at all.
    - Discovering lore, loot, secrets, and quests by exploring new areas/worlds or overhearing NPC conversations.
    - Some of the writing and voice acting within the main/faction questlines is the best Bethesda has ever done.
    - Plays as smoothly at 1080p on my Xbox Series S as it does on my Ryzen 5 5600x/3070ti PC (graphics are better on PC of course)

    Things I don’t like:

    - The world’s graphics are beautiful, the characters and NPCs not so much.
    - It takes too long to feel invested in the game and story.
    - A diminished sense of high stakes. Some decisions do matter, and some choices have consequences, but for most questlines I don’t feel like my choices have any real impact.
    - Some of the NPC dialogue feels wooden and stilted, and some side quests feel like filler rather than purposeful.
    - Encumberment. I get overloaded so fast I have to leave a lot of loot behind and selling stuff requires I stop questing/exploring and returning to vendor. I don’t understand why Bethesda thought this would be a good idea. It’s the antithesis of fun.

    I was torn between giving this an 8 or a 9, but I’ve settled on 9 because despite some flaws, it’s such a huge game world that caters to different play styles and it will have great replay value. That and for me, it’s been so much fun. Many hours of entertainment!

    For me this is definitely GOTY. Starfield is exactly what you can expect from a Bethesda game. Haven't had this much fun with a single-player game in years.
    It feels quite a lot like Fallout 4 but set in space instead. The looting, the exploration, the story, the sidequests, the companions are really good.

    My gripes really aren't justifiable. 7/10 may seem harsh, but maybe I'd go 8/10 on xbox assuming it's optimized

Bethesda desperately needs to put the gamebryo/creation engine into it's grave because it has to be holding them back for a revolutionary game for the last few releases. If no other engine has what you need, make a new one and stop pasting add ons to the old junker one you have. I loved TES and fallout 3 and was ok with fo4. Yes, it has bugs, but they're not significant enough to ruin the experience. Initially, I was going to give it an 8 out of 10, but the facial expressions really bothered me, especially since I had just come from playing another RPG that handled them so well. Therefore, a 7/10 rating feels more appropriate to me.

    In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
