Only FSR and no DLSS at day One? (Maybe never). I have no intention of financing a modder for something that, in 2023, Bethesda and Microsoft should implement (especially in a product like this) without ifs and buts! AMD or no AMD!

Bugs, trash ia, boring Gameplay, the planets are empty, the faces of the NPCs are a shame, the voices arent sinchronized with the faces and the argument of the main quests is disgusting. A lame of a Game that was supposed to be one of the bests, but nothing new un bethesda. Dont buy It.

However, the game is extremely lazy and incompetent when it comes to other aspects, close to 3/10. This includes the story which is in my opinion 0/10 and the world building and level design. There IS SO MUCH that can be done in space, but the combat is barely different from fallout 4/76. Every conversation with NPCs results in a fetch quest. I s*it you not, in 1 hour in new atlantis I stumbled upon 5 different fetch quests including getting a coffee for a Janitor. What in the actual crap is this? The writers of this game are absolutely incompetent, it feels like a clone of the previous games writing-wise. And the role-playing aspects aren't improved upon since Fallout 3. In fact in FO3 you could role-play more effectively. The quest designers and writers need to be FIRED. The UI design IS ATROCIOUS. It gives me anxiety.
Finally as always, this game will be endless with mods. Mods will find creativity that bethesda writers and game designers don't have

I've played for a few hours now, I'm not a professional critic, It would be difficult to be impartial for something I really liked, the game is incredible, my PC gamer suffers a little to run, but I believe that correction patches should be released soon, making the game more optimized, there are many loading screens being negative. It doesn't disrupt our experience as gamers that much. Overall it's a good game, with personality, I hope to play for many more hours. Expand

I went and especially got a gamepass subscription for it, waited for 120gb download and uninstalled the game in 4 hours of playtime.

The jank and clunkyness is so extreme. No FOV slider in 2023, the UI runs at 30fps, the shooting feels and sounds like a 2004 game, way too much fast travel, no ground vehicles, its a horrible experience.

BETHESDA IS INCAPABLE OF MAKING A NEXT GEN GAME.

yes I admit it has many flaws, but if the game is really interesting, it's not a goty or a 10 game but it's a good game, the title offers a lot of space for exploration at the same time between crafting and missions you can waste many hours on it, for sure the optimization isn't perfect, but I remember games like Gollum, Gotham Knights that came out at full price and didn't even work for a while.

Overall the game feels lazy & outdated. It offers nothing new. There are other space games that do this much better. [Space Engineers, No Mans Sky, Star Citizen] Starfield is a shell of other games. You would only enjoy this game if you’ve never played No Mans Sky or Space Engineers or Star Citizen. This is NOT your traditional Bethesda open world experience. This is nothing like Skyrim or Fallout 4.

I played No Mans Sky for the first time one week before Starfield’s release. Starfield is trying to do what No Mans Sky already did…

-8 stars for forced pronouns. Yes, the (forced) pronouns thing is a big deal, here's why.

Do lies or truth help people? It is my belief that pronouns are severely damaging mental health. Why? I believe pronouns are being pushed to help further a personal belief that biological men can be women and vice versa. And who cares? Well, in all respect, you're asking the wrong question. We should be asking "Do lies or truth help people?" Clearly the truth is best for us. And the truth is, it is biology, NOT us, or our feelings, that assigns chromosomes before we are born that determine male or female. (Yes, I get that there are exceptions, like with intersex born people, but the exceptions are just that - exceptions. And they are exceedingly rare. And sure, leave the pronoun choice in for them, that's okay. But forcing everyone else to choose is the problem). There is no amount of technology or feelings that can change chromosomal makeup. So therefore, men can never become women and women can never become men.

Using pronouns helps to perpetuate a lie, which in the long run hurts people significantly. Pronouns, for thousands and thousands of years, have correlated with biology. Males are 'he' and females are 'she', etc. If I create a male character, the pronouns are understood to be used throughout the game accordingly as 'he'. There is zero reason to require that I pick pronouns because it's unnecessary. Now, as previously explained, go ahead and leave the option to choose pronouns in the game. BUT there should be a choice for those of us who do not want to help validate lies to everyone else, who is not legitimately intersexed.

What should that choice be? There should be an option to simply leave that pronoun field blank and populate the game with the appropriate pronouns correlated to the character created as male or female.

It's my opinion, that if you do not agree that biology and chromosomes determine male/female, please understand that it is you, not me, who believes lies and is denying truth - which is a very uncaring, unloving, hurtful, and a confusing act, that will complicate other's mental health.

I believe history will one day look back and condemn the millions of people who would rather be part of a movement and feel a sense of social belonging, more than protecting biologically provable truth and the mental health of others. Two thumbs down Bethesda. For what it's worth, I will never be purchasing another game from you until I've ensured you are protecting the mental health of all of us.

The studio is best known for unforgettable experiences.

Now Starfield is a whole new beast. It's not the type of game you measure by play hours.
but rather by individual stories and discoveries. You've got to play it at your own pace.
like the explorer the game wants you to be.

If you have the right hardware, the game can push out some of the best visuals I have ever seen.
The designers over at BGS have created the world with mindbogling detail especially on space stuff.
The art style is a breath of fresh air.and sets a more realistic tone for what humans can achieve
    in the not-so-distant future.

A galaxy full of stories and history that feels alive and gives you the impression
that everything can happen at every turn.

    Cons :

I would like space travel to be more fluid and make me feel that I am actually traveling with my ship,
not a sim,but not constantly having to go through menus to go somewhere.

Slow UI and complicated menu navigation that doesn't feel very intuitive, although developers
have implemented a lot of quality of life stuff, like being able to sell directly from the ship inventory, and others.
The Fast travel option is ok due to the nature of the game but traveling between planets could have been more than just a loading screen.

    Conclusion :

There is a kind of romanticism about BGS worlds and stories. A sense of noble endeavors that we like so much, and Starfield may be the best one yet!

A big thanks to the moding community for elevating the game from day one!

    10/10: Another unforgetable experience.

Starfield Review - A Glimpse of the Cosmos Leaves Much to Be Desired

    Introduction:
Starfield, Bethesda's highly anticipated foray into the realm of space exploration, has finally graced the gaming community with its presence. As an avid gamer, I eagerly delved into this cosmic adventure, only to find myself somewhat underwhelmed by the experience. While the game does have its merits, it falls short in several key areas, making it difficult to overlook its shortcomings.

    Gameplay and World Design:
One of the first impressions that struck me was the feeling of confinement in the game. Starfield often employs loading screens for seemingly insignificant transitions, such as entering a small building on a planet. This disrupts the immersion and raises questions about the game's world-building. The over-reliance on loading screens left me yearning for the vast openness of titles like No Man's Sky, where seamless exploration reigns supreme.

    Ship Gameplay:
Starship gameplay, a cornerstone of any space exploration game, left me wanting more. Instead of engaging with my vessel, I found myself using it primarily as a means of fast travel between planets. This lack of depth and meaningful ship-related activities pales compared to titles like No Man's Sky, where ships play a central role in the player's experience.

    Graphics and Performance:
Graphically, my initial experience with Starfield was far from stellar. Upon launch, the game defaulted to low settings, resulting in a visually lackluster experience. With a few adjustments, I managed to achieve a stable 60 fps, but certain areas, like New Atlantis, still suffered from sluggishness. Furthermore, the character models, particularly NPC faces, left much to be desired, highlighting the game's subpar graphics and overall optimization.

    Overhyped and Underdeveloped:
Given Bethesda's reputation and the seven years of development touted for Starfield, I expected a game that would rival the likes of Skyrim. Unfortunately, the reality falls short of this lofty standard. It appears that Bethesda's passion for game development may have waned since the fallout (no pun intended) of Fallout 76 and the Workshop debacle. The result is a game that feels underbaked and lacking in the depth and polish that fans of Bethesda Game Studios have come to expect.

    Conclusion:
In conclusion, Starfield is a game with potential, but it ultimately fails to live up to the hype. Its reliance on loading screens, underdeveloped ship gameplay, and lackluster graphics detract from what could have been a stellar space exploration experience. Bethesda's recent track record suggests a decline in their commitment to quality, leaving fans of their earlier work disappointed. With a solid 6/10 rating, Starfield leaves much room for improvement and begs the question of whether Bethesda can recapture the magic of their past successes.

One more thing. the overwhelming amount of negative reviews confuses the hell out of me. it seems like people went in expecting a completely different game from the one that was announced and promised. if they wanted what No mans sky offered they should play that one. or star citizen. this is a single-player Bethesda game.

This game is very inconsistent. To start several aspects of the game are 10/10, including the art direction, textures, absolute depth of content, sound (and voices), music and atmosphere. The music is superb and the artists did a phenomenal job creating a NASAPunk art style.
Mods will find creativity that bethesda writers and game designers don't have.

I only played about 2 mainquests but have been enjoying the the faction quests a lot and you get good rewards for completing them. The gripes with this game are minimal to me, i kinda dont like the fast traveling but i also dont want to sit in a ship for hours traveling to complete a quest. The game runs well on my series S, barely any frame drops, i crash occasionally but im sure a uodate will fix it. The soundtrack to this game is amazing also. I recommend a playthrough if you like looter shooters and 1st person RPG games. Also they should update the AI and some of the physics as they are kinda stale but either way the game is still pretty fun for me.

I had to restart the tutorial twice because of a game breaking crash as one of the major cutscenes was loading. There are the same bugs as always, the same stiff faces and animations as always, even the idle lines of NPC's when you walk past are the same like in Skyrim and Oblivion or Morrowind. At some point I was even expecting one of the guards in New Atlantis to complain about his missing sweet-roll or tell me that he used to be an explorer as well...

Another negative point is the "your journey" factor. Elder Scrolls or Fallout games have this sense of moving forward, this journey your characters takes. Even if you travelled back and forth between two locations it still seemed meaningful, still had a purpose. In Starfield there are loading screens...
Whatever you do, there is a loading screen. You can travel to the far end of settled systems and it still doesn't feel like you're on an epic journey cause there are just loading screens. Hell, there even is a loading screen to get straight to your cockpit if you can't be bothered to walk across your own ship.

I know that you don't have to use fast travel and just do it the "old fashioned way" but honestly, there are occasions where I don't even know that I will fast travel. Once you discovered a place then you will fast travel there. You have to go out of your way to travel to discovered places the "normal way".

The game is not all that bad or a lie like some make it out to be, but it is less than what I would normally expect from Bethesda and definitely not worth the £60, hence 6/10.

    1. The game was never marketed as a Star Citizen-like (or "scam citizen," given the recent controversies). Bethesda has denied this information many times (hello, defamation).
    2. Bethesda never claimed that spaceship combat would be like Elite Dangerous (another fantasy of pseudo-fans) (P.S.: ED is also struggling, and I say that as someone with thousands of hours in the game and an FC with enough credits to last 3 years without logging in :D).
    3. Comparing Baldur's Gate 3 to Starfield is quite "mad." BG3 is a true role-playing game with card, whereas games like The Elder Scrolls, etc., are not role-playing games in the true sense.
    4. Criticizing the cities is acceptable depending on how you play. However, comparing it to Ubisoft, where the cities are ultimately very simplistic (lots of copy-pasting, etc.), well, that argument is only somewhat valid.
    5. Bad graphics? We must not have played the same game. You claim to be playing on ultra settings and know how to run the game on full ultra? I'm curious about your PC specs because few people can run it properly on full ULTRA.
    6. As for piloting, I would like to point out that there are some tricks, similar to ED, for quickly maneuvering your ship up and down, etc. But if you don't know them, you can't really compare it to Elite Dangerous because you probably haven't done Thargoid combat, PvP, bounty hunting, etc., at all.
    7. Regarding companions, they wear a default suit in HOSTILE ENVIRONMENTS, just as you can hide your suit in your inventory in breathable/non-hostile environments. (I get the impression that you haven't actually played the game).
    8. As for your claim of being a "hiker," even though we can't verify this information, and it's an argument from authority, ALL Bethesda games were like this, without a map, even TESO. Does that make them bad games? No. Does your complaint potentially reveal a dependency? Yes.
    9. Resources and skills are a non-issue.
9a. Resources: You can easily buy them without any problem.
9b. Skills: In Elite Dangerous (since you like this example), you couldn't directly pilot a Federal Corvette and have it from the start, so ED is also a bad game. It's consistent not to have access to everything right from the beginning.
9c. Modding weapons/suits: You do research to unlock new crafting methods, etc.
9d. Ships: Do you need resources to build your ship? No, only credits, which are quickly earned (another proof that you haven't really played the game).
9e. Outposts: Allow you to automate resource farming, saving you some credits, and are very user-friendly.
    10. Regarding the quests, they have a very interesting background. If we listen to you, three-quarters of the games have terrible missions ^^' (your bias is showing).
    11. Unfortunately, your bias is quite evident.
    12. They never claimed that the game would resemble No Man's Sky, etc. They have denied this many times.

    Stop acting like Peter Molyneux.

FPS drops where it would seem there shouldn't be any. I think this shouldn't happen on the 3080ti. You can imagine what's on the weaker cards. 3. Space and ships - well, idk, considering that all movements here can be made by pressing one button, then all this becomes as if it is not necessary, the only thing is that the ship can be used as a hub or warehouse. Flights in space, like battles, are boring. Floundering around orbit and not being able to fly somewhere far in manual mode is upsetting. 4. Loads for every sneeze - this is more of a complaint against the engine (I think so, maybe I’m wrong), all games from the gazebo suffer from this, but here it is elevated to an absolute. If in some Skyrim or Folych these downloads are found only at the entrance to buildings or caves, etc., then here they are everywhere. If you want to land - loading, enter the building - loading, take off - loading, boarding - loading, moving between city districts - loading, although it’s difficult to call local settlements and cities. There is no smell of seamlessness here. 5. Planets and content on them - but there is none, or there is little, basically it all comes down to grinding resources, clearing identical outposts. In all this time I haven’t come across anything interesting yet, maybe this is temporary. And they would provide transport to move around the planets, otherwise it’s a mess. 6. Combat - well, shooting was not the strong point of the gazebo, but something is really bad here, there is no recoil at all, you can’t feel hits at all, you have to constantly look at the corner of the screen where your health is indicated, in order to understand if they hit you or No. Well, and on top of everything else, AI is as infinitely stupid as space is infinite. There are positive aspects and the game cannot be called a completely bad one, but it is not a masterpiece or a breakthrough either. There are games about space a thousand times better. If you want exploration, riddles and adventures in space, you’re in No Man’s Sky, there’s a coop there, you can build a base and tame a pet, and all this splendor is without downloads, that’s where it’s seamless. If you want to tickle your ass, then go to Elite Dangerous or EVE Online. This is the best promotion for No Man's Sky and Elite so far.

Side quests are where it is at, much like every other Bethesda game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Currently, I am 40 hours in and completed maybe 5 main quests. I am on my way to becoming a Freestar Ranger. The game sucks you in, just like any other Bethesda game. It is very good at distracting you, especially when you avoid fast traveling.
This part of the game is a 9!
The things Starfield does really well are the Quests, the world building - every city is different and feels like a small world, the ship and outpost building, and the companions are so much better than in Fallout 4 and I actually care about them, Space combat is super fun as soon as you level your ship.

    This part is a 5!
But there are things that definitely need to be better. The maps are horrible, the UI is bad, and the optimization for lower-end PCs is bad. I am not affected by that, but I empathise with the players affected. They should use a different engine for their games.

Another thing I have to address are claims and criticisms about the game, that are not really honest.

    1. The planets are lifeless and boring: Yes, that was intended and said the whole time. Howard said a year ago on Lex Friedman, that most planets will be lifeless, just like in real life.

    2. The life on the planets is always the same: That is just not true. I am 40 hours in and yet have not seen animals double.

    3. Space travel is not seeming less, NMS already did this nearly ten years ago, so why can't they do it?:
First of all. That, also, was clear a long time ago. Every player who read a bit about Starfield knew, that you can't manually land in Starfield. Now the travel between planets is so big, that it would take days to travel manually. That is pretty realistic, but nobody would do that, and it shows how absurd this point is.

Now to the point of comparing it to NMS:
Pretty easy, NMS does not have a lot of story, objects, in general, handcrafted content the player can interact with. The planets are pretty impressively generated procedurally. But as a long-time NMS player, the planets in NMS have no biomes, not a lot of diversity, and are mostly also pretty empty. Starfield has much more to focus on than the planet generation, which is still pretty good. The planets look amazing and the systems they are in also.

The criticism confuses me sometimes. The game gets criticized for being not realistic enough and it is not the real world just different boxes xyz, but when it does something realistic, like empty planets or huge space in actual space, then it's boring.

So all in all. I really like the game. It has major flaws I pointed out that should be fixed. But then again, Bethesda is the only one who does games this big and this good. Starfield will be a 100+ hour game for me and for you if you like Bethesda games.

To sum this game up it's Fallout in space but more polished more refined.

    PC specs:
    2060 RTX 6GB VRAM
    32GB RAM 3600mhz
    i5 11th Gen
SSD (this game will only run on an SSD. If you try an HDD, you're gonna have a bad time)

I run the game mostly on Medium graphics. I get 30-35FPS from outside environments, 50-60+FPS inside buildings at 2560x1080 resolution at 100% (no scaling). My GPU is under the recommended requirements, and I run it just fine. People with issues that have better equipment are doing something wrong, because this game runs perfectly fine for me other than inside the Astral Lounge in Neon City. I have dipped to 23FPS in there. It has a lot of people inside and I do set my crowd density to high. I have yet to find anything else in 40 hours that bogs down the frame rates like that place does.

    Pros:
True Bethesda feel if you're familiar with their past Fallout, and Elder Scrolls titles. If you like those, you'll like this.

If you liked Fallout 4, CyberPunk 2077, Mass Effect, and Outer Worlds then this game is absolutely for you. It is a mashup of all those games combined on the best steroid money can buy.

Bethesda Game Studio RPGs are huge. They do not release without bugs. This is the least bugged game they have released in over 20 years. I have not seen any NPC, or wall glitches the only issue I have had is it has crashed 3 times in about 40 hours, and at that, my hardware may be to blame. Good luck getting that result out of Fallout 4 even today after 8 years of patching.

Again it's huge. Many are comparing it to Cyberpunk 2077 as the graphics are not quite as good, however, in comparison CP is tiny. To have a game the magnitude of Starfield certain things must be sacrificed. It took me only a couple months to complete every last main, and side mission with the exception of just a few '?s' left on the map. It will take a solid year to get to the same level of completion in Starfield.

    Cons:
A couple things I find disappointing. One is looting. Going back to Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Vegas, and 4 every single NPC you kill will have an outfit to loot. And when you loot that outfit it comes off the body leaving a real sense of what you've accomplished. Especially satisfying with big bosses, or an NPC with say Ebony armor. In Starfield not every dead body can be looted as such, and when you do loot an outfit it goes into your inventory, but remains on the body. I always felt like that was an extra level of immersion you had with a BGS game. That is now missing.

The other is questing. You get a quest to go 'grab' an item from another solar system and bring it back. A lot of times this must be done with a Grav jump, or fast travel. This also lacks in some immersion. You can get a quest on say Mars to grab something in Alpha Centuri that is 4 million light years away. Should be an epic adventure!!!! However its done in 5-10 minutes or so, and there is no sense of the distance you've just traveled. I get it, obviously there is no real fix for that in this type of setting. I don't have a fix, or idea for this, but like I said a round trip of 8 million light years should feel a bit different.

    Overall:
Overall, unless you really hate this genre of open world game, and are mainly just a COD, or Madden player you're gonna love it. Like the above stated titles it is a wonderful mashup. Again, anyone with performance issues with better equipment that what I stated above your system is the issue, not the game. I absolutely love it, BGS killed it once again, and I see myself playing this for several years to come!!!

Starfield is, in my humble opinion, a perfect game. The more time you put into Starfield, the more you get out of it.

The game starts off blandly and takes too long to reveal its breadth of ambition and imagination. The nested menus, especially the star map used to skip between planets and systems, are confusing and difficult to navigate. The world interactions feel brittle and the loading screens are distracting. The dialogue often babbles across one another as you jetpack through the world. The starting city of New Atlantis is soulless and feels like a retail park on the outskirts of Croydon. Overall, Starfield is a faintly rickety universe of possibilities that fails to live up to its potential. It’s a mighty slow burn that doesn’t reward the faithful. I will give it a low score. Expand

Insanely well polished and fun game by Bethesda and Microsoft Studios. I recommend giving this a try on Microsoft Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Todd Howard lied to everyone about PC optimization. This game is in no way shape or form optimized for PC. Honestly, the controls are frustrating and unintuitive.

I spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to rotate a component of a spaceship, only to figure out that no, it's not possible.

The 'game opening' cinematic is annoyingly long.

It's frustrating to shoot someone in the head with four shotgun shells and them not dying.

There's a lot of flaws in space in Starfield. But that does not prevent me from exploring our galaxy again and again.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
