Despite the anticipation and promises from Bethesda, Starfield turned out to be a bitter disappointment. The game, unfortunately, falls victim to various major issues that could have been mitigated had proper time been devoted to development and testing.

Firstly, the game is riddled with bugs and glitches that seriously affect the gameplay experience. While it's common for new large-scale games to have some minor issues, the sheer number present is staggering. Not only do characters and objects sporadically clip, but weapons and tools occasionally fail to work, leading to frustrating experiences.

The vast, open-world design of Starfield seemed promising, but now it feels empty and lifeless. The explorative nature of the game is hampered by repetitive content and a limited number of meaningful interactions. Many planets appear to be mere copy-pastes of each other, with similar textures and layouts creating a monotonous experience.

Moreover, the storyline is convoluted and underwhelming, leaving players frustrated as they struggle to follow the plot. The narrative is poorly paced and filled with underdeveloped characters that make it hard to feel invested in the story. The dialogues, a key part of any RPG, seem lacking and generic compared to previous Bethesda titles.

The spacial journey is simply turn around the 3 axes staying still in front of a JPEG wallpaper. To travel you can't use the ship, but only the fast travel, in this way you just load another scenery. Story is boring and without a cause you just have to start a journey e kill some pirates. Persuasion minigame is as awful as try to get out from pit with ET! No explanation, no helps, just try 3 or 4 phrases and hope.
The hype is not motivated, a good game sold as an experience, but perhaps the experience isn't a good one.

However, it turned out to be a scam, one that cost $800 million to develop. The backward engine, the unfree universe, the extremely high computer hardware requirements, the optimization as bad as **** the crazy loading-dialogue-entering-loading-taking off-loading-entering the planet-loading. Okay, I admit defeat.
The only advantage is the main storyline and rich branch lines, and the others have no advantages at all.
Sorry, I will never pre-order Bethesda games in the future, unless Bethesda learns from its predecessor Obsidian Studios someday.

I've been waiting for a space RPG of this caliber - or at least what this tried to be. Two things really bug me: (1) Freedom/depth of movement (on ground and in space); and (2) Insertion of identity politics. Regarding the freedom/depth of movement: This doesn't feel as big as it could. It feels more "instanced" than I'm into. Not my cup of tea.

On top of all of the above, they asked for £86 for the premium and £60 for the standard.

Bethesda is synonymous with the expectation of a buggy release that is generally fixed by the community and they have fully leaned into it. Pathetic, if they didn't have gamepass they would probably be a dead company.

    STARFIELD: Black loading
Picture starry sky (still too bright).
It is suspected that the population explosion will cause the entire universe to be filled with humans, causing serious light pollution.

Space battles are redundant and boring.

loading loading more loading, especially when visiting stores and solving quests.

The main plot...well, that's the main plot of B company.

The UI and operation are extremely unfriendly to novices.
(Old players are fine, but new players eat poop? Are you justified?)
Also crammed a bunch of stuff into the skill that would improve the gameplay experience.

    The AI is unsurprisingly bad.
Whether it's combat logic or when shopping.
Hit wooden stakes, halfway through the battle, NPC weapons fly up, and start to flee wildly.
When you block an NPC , you will see the NPC just keep going on your face.
There is also the tragic teammate AI as always.

    ****

Can build, design spaceships (doesn't do much, but makes you feel good about yourself).
Players who were semi-finished guinea pigs in Fallout 4 can now play the finished product(?
    There is the task network.

With MOD, there is a chance to wait for player MOD to come out to save the world.
(It should be more comfortable to play after half a year and a year, and you can wait for a discount by the way)

    ****

Most of the people who will buy it immediately should be veteran players of B company.
Are waiting for Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.
Either it is a must-buy diehard old fan.
Or maybe I want to see what STARFIELD is like that B company has launched regardless of players’ voices.
(Maybe there are more space fans because Star Trek and Star War?)

"personal opinion" it seems... a low-end Fallout with space skin.
Elder Scrolls satisfies adventures in the wizarding world.
The background of the Fallout nuclear war is not far from us, which makes people have a deeper sense of substitution.
    STARFIELD'S SPACE SETTING...
Well, I don't know how many people look forward to adventures in space.
But I know STARFIELD's "space" adventures fail.
    Basically, it's loading,loading and loading.
Otherwise, it is floating in the starry sky with textures.
Bring out the speed and acceleration special effects to make you feel that the map is very big.
These "future" weapons aren't too futuristic either.

The game itself is of high quality and fun.
Old fans may be able to accept old IP doing like this. But the new IP personally feels that it is not up to the mark. There must be a bunch of new players who can't eat it. The most basic UI and operation are confusing. It even requires players to find a MOD to save them. It can only be said that newcomers to B company's games should be cautious. If you don't plan to play MOD. Spend dozens of hours installing two or three hundred MODs one by one to study the order and conflicts of MODs. Then what you are playing with others is not same game.

Having played 30+ hours so far I'm loving the game. I've hardly completed any of the main quest and just seem to end up doing random events and quests. Look at the clock and it's already 2am and where did the time go? I have feeling the game will just get better with time. I'm already running a few QoL mods from nexus which have really improved the experience for me.

I only expect the game to get better from here with support from the developer and community mods to enhance the game further. This could easily be a 9/10 or 10/10 later down the line.

Yes, there are some limitations on flight and you cannot fly directly to planets (like NMS) but I'd rather have this and a brief loading screen than empty planets with nothing to do on them. I've rather enjoyed the fast travel as a way to keep the action going rather than spending hours of my time just getting to my needed destinations.

Gunplay is surprisingly enjoyable for a Bethesda game and space combat has also been fun. Ship building takes it to the next level. I'm looking forward to sinking many more hours into this game.

Flying 50 light years to give some entitled old lady an energy drink wine cooler…. Who wrote this? Who thought this was a good idea. She’s the rich and famous Mrs.Coffin and she sets a desk even a Bethesda intern would laugh at. Exploration is the worst of any triple A title I’ve played. It’s like Bethesda play tested a bunch of games. Stole their basic premise and strung them together on this ancient engine and SOMEHOW made it work without exploding. But in the process left every captivating every titular concept their stole from under a pile of rocks on a moon. This game has no character, no flavor other than butt crack vanilla. You lick it a few times, you nurse it, you spend time with it. Just to have someone tell you that your breath smells like a**. This game suffered from the same thing Halo infinite did. Lack of direction in any one specific goal. A subpar storytelling experience and combat that would make fallout 3 itself laugh. Where has the immersion and the experience go of past titles. Who chose this as our future? Because they need tasked with something else. Story telling may at one point been their shtick. But it certainly isn’t now. I had such high hopes for this game. It’s beautiful, it’s HUGE. But in that it’s huge it’s also EMPTY. Like a big a** box of multi flavor chips. You can’t wait to open it to see what flavors you have and of how much each it contains. Just to find out the box is half empty, and there are only two flavors. 9 bags of plain, and one bag of salt and vinegar. You’ll open the box ( the game ) and think. “ WHO IS THE A**HOLE WHO PACKED THIS??!!” And that’s the game. 25 hours in I’m 100% out. The only way anything can be saved is by modders. The very same group that saves every Bethesda title every time it needs saving. Shame on you Microsoft and Bethesda. You made a beautiful soulless gutted empty space menu simulator.
And you should feel bad. You’ve wasted all of our time and money. And you could have just been making ES6. But no, Todd wanted a space game. Sometimes it’s best if Todd doesn’t always get what he wants. For f**k sake just put him in a room with the current No Man’s sky and Everspace if he wants to know how this game should have felt.

It uses a 20 year old engine, looks like a Xbox 360 game, but runs like crap even on a RTX4080 you mostly just see 60-70FPS in most areas.

The game is full of bugs. I encountered at least 10 bugs or so in my first 2 hours game play. NPCs are as bad as they always were in any Bethesda game, and they literally look as bad as in Fallout. Jumping NPCs or porting through walls happening everywhere. Doors which wont open.

Inventory system is a total MESS and not easy to use.

loading... loading .... loading ... fast travel ... loading .... fast travel ... loading. No Mans Sky did this so much better years ago.

This game is a loading and inventory management simulator with terrible outdated graphics, terrible performance, full of bugs, no innovation, no content and just gets super boring super fast.

Does the game get better while you play? Totally not.

Is there hope the game becomes better through the mod community? Maybe. But that totally is not a good thing, especially not if you pay $100 for a 2023 AAA title.

It is basically a Fallout 4 mod in space.

Dont fall for the fake reviews. This game is a 6/10 in its current state. Nothing special.

It's not like this game has a story or characters that compensate. Calling the writing mediocre would be more than a little charitable. You're surely gonna be rolling your eyes more than just a few times at some of the characters and dialogue.

There is of course an argument to be made that modders could improve things. But there's only so much those poor modders will be able to fix, especially when the game is already so resource intensive. Quite frankly, I think even they would be better served modding games with better foundations.

The PC optimization is TERRIBLE our lady, a 3060ti with i7-10700K and 16 RAM. For God's sake, how does it run at 30 40 fps?

Then a guy puts a paid DLSS mod and the game goes to 90 FPS, Bethesda is a mediocre game company getting more and more lazy.

Starfield is an underdeveloped modding platform because I can't really call it a game.

The AI is a failure; I don't know who was behind it, but they probably just wrote to GPT, 'Write me an AI that moves and shoots,' and pasted it into Starfield...
The graphics design is actually quite high-quality, but the execution is a tragedy. If you were to scale Starfield in terms of graphics between Fallout 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2, Starfield is closer to Fallout and it devours resources like crazy. I wonder where those resources are going?
    Where is the space?
    Terrible interface.
    Starfield is just plain boring.
I forced myself to play for the last few hours just to understand most of the game's systems. This game really has a terrible design.

Trash AI

Absolutely soulless "Teleport from A to B" a thousand times "gameplay". No sense of exploration AT ALL. Everything is instanced and you never discover anything. You just open up your HUD and places are shown to you or you can pointlessly run around on empty planets.

Performance is horrible as well. The "ultra" preset sets the scaling to 70%. Let that sync in. I can play Unreal Engine 5 games with 5x the graphics quality with DLSS on quality with almost double the FPS then this with my 2080 Ti. In typical modern games fashion turning down details gives basically nothing in performance. I basically CANT play this game in a reasonable way with 60 FPS.

Like all the AAA games these does this of course is infested with wokeness as well but you can believe me or not I really do not need to down-rate this game because of this, the game itself is just complete 100% recycling.

The same boring looting of too much loot, companions just act as annoying packmules. And a utterly annoying way to give them stuff. You first need to talk to them, select the option "can you carry stuff for me" and then you end up in a pointless screen where you AGAIN have to push another button to open your inventory to actually then dig down into the **** UI to select items. Its unacceptable for a PC game in 2023 to be this bad. And this is not some kind if new IP from a indie studio. This is the xth iterations of the same game they already made again and again.

One of the biggest game studios on the world, bought by M$ but they do not dare to develop a proper PC UI. The UI it total trash, no grid system with a nice overview and drag and drop. Instead a oversized stupid console UI that just makes me want to puke.

Its kind of mind boggling that they did not even improve ANYTHING and many argue they made it worse. If if this would be "as good as Fallout New Vegas" or some of the titles I actually liked back then I am not down for the game game again and again. I already passed on Fallout 4 because the graphics (style) turned me off and the beginning was so uninspiring and boring and I already felt I played this b4 in better that I just could not make myself play it.

I do not even know why I had some hope for this game, its on me to think a new game name brings any kind of innovation.

The game looks quite meh on both PC and XSX but that is not even an issue to me.

The main quest is a bit boring but again, with Bethesda it's normal that the side quests are the actual juice.

There are some really cool features like ship design, outpost design and the combat is mostly ok.

Still there is one huge showstopper for me - exploration is simply extremly **** there is no incentive whatsoever to explore the planets, and in game which is supposedly about exploration, that is a deal breaker.

There should be several mechanics included in this type of game like actual extreme environment that damages your suit, O2 consumption, all that stuff we know from No Man's Sky e.g. Also, vehicles and at least a short description of a planet that you are landing on, just like in ME (flavour text is extremly important) not just raw data. A bit more interetsing fauna and flora, actual fuel consumption for jumping across systems. All that should be a must in a game about space exploration.

In short, to many elements of the game are simply shallow.

I'm giving it a 6 though it honestly should be a bit lower. The side quests and the world itself have a lot potential so I am expecting this game to be better with mods in DLCs. I will certainly wait for the moment when someone implements actual juice and incentive to the space exploration and then revisit but until then I will pause my playthrough.

PS. I really cannot understand how Cyberpunk ate so much **** on release and this game is so highly praised.

Even if you're miserable and uninformed enough to get mad about how other people live their lives, you wouldn't even know the option was there(a minor option at the start of the game that is never significantly relevant again) without demented freaks online demanding you get upset about it. Don't let right-wing grifters dupe you into getting mad about that. What you should care about is how bad the actual game is, and not fake culture war nonsense.

This game is just Fallout 4 again but worse in every possible way. The performance is absolutely dreadful even on high end hardware, and their previous games weren't known for being well optimised.

As bad as Fallout 4 might have been as an RPG, it at least had a map that was fun to explore and live in. You could look in any direction and there would be something to go do over there, and the locations were varied and worth exploring. In Starfield, however, they have apparently gone for "realism" in the sense that most planets are completely devoid of anything worth seeing or doing, and this was on purpose according to their own Pete Hines(google search "Starfield planets were purposefully designed to be ‘boring’ says Bethesda"). When you land on a planet you are given a small patch of land on that planet to explore, before hitting invisible walls, and within that patch of land there may be 2-5 points of interest. Getting to any of these locations requires a five minute walk, as there are no land vehicles and you can't just hop in your ship to get closer, as that would generate a slightly different patch of land, thus resetting the locations to be different and placed a certain distance from the ship's landing point. During your five minute walk, you will encounter nothing. I mean literally nothing, no enemies, no minor buildings or objects, maybe a couple of non hostile animals that you can kill for material scraps, but nothing to make the journey at all exciting. Once you arrive, the location will be one of three or four different types of location. A cave will just be that, a small cave with some bits of material on the wall that you can waste your time mining. A space bandit hideout will be one of two or three bandit hideout templates that you will keep seeing again and again. All of this makes exploring extremely dull, which is bad news, considering that was supposed to be a major selling point for this particular game, and in this regard(and most others) it just falls on its face in the most clownish way possible.

As a role playing game, it once again lowers the bar through the floor, removing any sense of unique character builds in favour of generic perks that are either so important that literally everyone would take them or so bad that it doesn't matter which you choose.

The dialogue is so bland and lifeless it could easily have been written by some of the early AI chatbots from a couple years ago, each character is even more boring and uninteresting than the last, and your choices in dialogue always include two ways of advancing the conversation the same way but with reworded text, and one or two ways of asking more about the subject, which is literally never worth doing.

The combat is somehow a downgrade from the already awful combat in their previous games, where enemies stand in place sponging your bullets without flinching as you empty your mag directly into their head, and their AI is so poor that just playing the game like you would any other results in the enemies being confused and unable to keep up.

The ship combat is a pointless, dull, tacked-on waste of time, there's no gameplay to it beyond lining up your crosshair with the enemy ship and holding down the mouse button until their HP bar is depleted.

This game really is failing on all cylinders, and the positive reviews truly make me question why I continue to hope for good video games when so many gamers are content with shameful slop such as this. There may be a couple slightly redeeming moments later in the game, but it's like an NPC says at the start of the game "The juice ain't worth the squeeze".

Starfield is about exploring space, or at least that was what it was supposed to be about. You will often find yourself repeating the same fetch quests over and over once you complete the mind numbing overly long tutorial. Once you get in to the groove though, you quickly find out that the game contains much repetition broken up by the same loading screens, and that you are not as free as you thought you would be. Quests will be to teleport (quick travel) to a location that resembles the same as before it, walk a short distance, shoot the bodies in front of you, loot and return. You are unable to freely fly your ship anywhere you want, nor can you land anywhere on a planet that you want. In fact, if you land the same place twice, the planet will look different. The game procedurally generates a "random" tile to which you can walk, just don't walk to far because there are invisible walls. You can not even see the towns in the background. Gunplay is nice and tight, however quickly becomes underwhelming when you realize most weapons feel the same, but some with a zoom option. The enemies will not run for cover or show any signs of intelligence as you blast their faces off. Jumping and moving super slow .. because you know, gravity? .. This only adds to the frustratingly boring slow paced gameplay and story. Designing your own base or ship you would think would be fun, but it is not. The clunky system and process is tedious and is not rewarding. The level-up / reward / skill system seems interesting, but plagued by bugs and glitches as is the entire game quickly becomes the same... more annoying than rewarding. Overall, this half baked experience seems like it was pulled out of the oven way too soon. Gamers alike want to love it, as it is a popular release and set in space, what is there not to love? Unfortunately, this game falls flat on its face and feels more like multiple mini games stuck together with extremely long loading screens. Each as equally bad as the other. Don't even get me started on the graphics or inventory system, yikes! Expand

-And I think the most important thing is that there is no feeling of discovery, you are in a huge void but everything is the same haha, it can't be worse. (To give a simple example, instead of an empty planet when you return to Earth, you can attract the player with a simple design that will create a feeling of Fallout-style environment, map, missions, experience and exploration and stimulate them.) They filled every planet with containers, there is no feeling of environment at all .

The one thing it doesn't have is my favorite thing about Bethesda games - exploration. No roaming across Skyrim, or the Commonwealth, or Vvardenfell, trekking aimlessly looking for random adventure. No more resolutions to not use fast travel before eventually caving - fast travel is all there is. So, more of the stuff you hate, less of the stuff you love.

It's very sad, but the game doesn't deserve its ratings and accolades. In fact, it's an empty open world without substance and lacks a coherent and engaging gameplay. It's definitely worse than Fallout 4. Sad.

DO NOT EXPECT TREAT THIS AS A SPACE SIM!

And get rid of the false advertisement, marketing that Bethesda sold you like "unprecedented freedom" to explore a thousand planets, that "We are putting you in the cockpit of your very own spaceship and telling you that you can do pretty much anything." (Actually just loading screens when we are traveling unless you gonna spend hours flying),

And get rid of the false advertisement, marketing that Bethesda sold you like "unprecedented freedom" to explore a thousand planets, that "We are putting you in the cockpit of your very own spaceship and telling you that you can do pretty much anything." (Actually just loading screens when we are traveling unless you gonna spend hours flying), that "Space flight should be EXCITING and dangerous, and you should feel like you're in COMPLETE CONTROL EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. " (Couple of loading screens per travel between planets shows that I am FULLY in control.) and that you could visit any area of a planet and so on. The game is a good game for sure, but Bethesda is at fault for marketing and overhyping it.

I do agree it's frustrating with the way they marketed it and they should not have worded it that way. If you are a fellow lover of No Man's Sky, Elite Dangerous, or any other space sim games, you will be disappointed. Instead, treat this as a RPG set in Space faring/exploration era with limited open world capabilities (like a bigger Fallout 4 open world map being dissected and separated into different planets with a limited space for you to explore) and the core focus on individual rpg elements, dialogues and story.

Starfield is a fun game when you slowly get into it no doubt, but being a Bethesda game, as with most of their games, there are bugs and glitches, not as much as previous fallout games, but definitely still there. My first 5 hours or so was bug free, but I started seeing NPCs spasming and clipping through the assets like walls/floors or floating up into unreachable heights once I got into the Constellation first main mission...Maybe that's how the human body works when you stay in space too long. Trust Bethesda on this, they studied it. So as a Bethesda game, forget other non-vanilla in game contents like modders created costumes, etc, you got to use performance/ optimization mods to optimize and make you game work much more smoothly, have better fps and look better.

All in all, the game is fun if you are someone who love RPGs and the thing is with Bethesda games, they are selling a foundation, a 70-80% polished game for modders and for players to apply mods to on top of it. It's a 7/10 for the vanilla game by Bethesda, but you will use mods to make it into a 10/10 by modders hand.

Give Rockstar 8 years and you'll see a masterpiece, this looks like a botched copy of Mass Effect Andromeda that was already bad.
I played it for 4 hours and left it, it doesn't do anything right and it's one loading screen after another... I played it on an SSD with an rtx4080 and 32gb of DDR5 ram to have to download a DLSS mod because it doesn't go above 40fps .

The facial animations are stiff and unnatural, the AI of the non-player characters is rudimentary, and the game world is often empty and lifeless.
Repetitive quests: The quests in Starfield are mostly repetitive and uninspired. They often boil down to fetching items, killing enemies, or exploring the same few locations over and over again. This makes the game feel tedious and boring after a while.
Lack of innovation: Starfield is a derivative game that doesn't do anything new or groundbreaking. It feels like a rehash of other Bethesda games, such as Skyrim and Fallout 4. This lack of innovation makes Starfield feel stale and outdated.
Overall, Starfield is a disappointing game that falls short of its potential. It is buggy, unpolished, repetitive, and unoriginal. If you are looking for a good space RPG, then there are better options available.

The beauty of Elder Scrolls games, Fallout etc. was the mystery - it was walking around aimlessly and stumbling across this amazing thing or that god statue that could talk, or this crazy NPC. Everything is behind a 'wall' and as such you don't feel like this is an exploration game. You feel like it's work - a tedious ask-task-retrieve loop. You don't 'find' things anymore - you are quested things and then you just go to the marker and do it. Rinse - repeat. Compared to other amazing games (esp. after I just finished playing Baldurs Gate 3) this seems wildly mediocre. Add the expectations (and time) laid out by Bethesda and this really can't be more than a 4. Expand

Estou encantado com o Jogo, superou minhas expectativas. Com certeza uma evolução da Bethesda, e é visível o carinho dos desenvolvedores com Starfield. Há tempos que não fico tão preso em um Jogo como estou agora com Starfield.

There's a lot of flaws in space in Starfield. But that does not prevent me from exploring our galaxy again and again.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
