im stuck in "into the unknown" mission. i cant continue the game and i have to play it from start game but there is a better way, i'll remove the game. this game is so boring. so buggy. just a bit beautiful. the gameplay is empty. its not fun not at all. Ai is weak. shooter action is not as good as Fallout.

Is this really what Bethesda had to shown? Truly it fells like I am playing a heavily modded Fallout 4.

The graphics are good, the light effects as well and it is a good space Fallout 4, but I didn't pay 69,99 dollars to play a space Fallout 4. Same physics bug from Fallout is still here.

To finish it off, you thought of adding pronouns to a game? Is this really where you want to focus your effort? OMG!

I preordered this. I found it to have an empty borinig world, rubbish space combat, and the AI for enemies rubbish. The menus were not intuitive for me either, thank goodness for Steam refund.

Definitely a game. But that is where it stays. Bland, to some points ugly graphics, the story does not carry this empty world at all. Same enemies over and over. Same loot over and over. Bethesda has lost it good. 'Space exploration', what a joke. I find more interesting things in my garden then in this game.

    3) All the planets are dull copy-paste. There are 4-5 interesting story planets and 3 large cities. And then, of them, only Neon City is interesting
    4) In fact, the game is even more grind **** than No Man's Sky. Only in the NMS, at least there are no downloads and flights between planets are not a stupid choice on the map and with the expectation of downloads
    5) The introduction is VERY long. I need to install a alternative start mod. Even longer than in Skyrim. It feels like the introduction is delayed for 40-45 minutes
    6) The characters are dull **** Take a guy from Fallout 4 with ANOTHER SETTLEMENT IN NEED OF YOUR HELP!!! If there were interesting quests in Skyrim, then in 2 days of playing 7-8 hours in Starfield, I found only space pirates who liked them at first, but quickly their quests just slipped into a dull ****.

I won't say anything about the technical condition, the MB will be fixed.

This is a single fallout 76. With PNG pictures of planets. That's all I can say about the game. And then, fall 76 is interesting at least by co-op

Podrían haber aprendido aquí de No Man's Sky.

Starting with the incessant loading screens. not being able to see your own feet in first person, or the total absence of minimaps for large cities and interiors. It all shows dev laziness everywhere, masked with excuses of all kinds from Tood Howard.

There are no land vehicles. You can't use the mechs that you see in-game. You can't fly your ship in the atmosphere of a planet. It's just a quick travel simulator after some time.

The scanner should be one of the strongest points of the game and it's so incredibly boring to use. The only notable upgrade you get is some sort of zoom and little else.

You do not get any database of creatures, planets, locations, etc. A game that it's all about exploration does not let you store all of that. A game with 1,000 planets that invites you to explore all, does not keep track of anything anywhere outside the star map. No Man's Sky does this fantastically. Again, it feels like the devs were simply too lazy to do it.

I have not gotten to the performance part yet. The game does not have DualSense button UI for Steam, it does not perform well, and it does not include DLSS all because some sort of shady deal between Bethesda, Microsoft, and AMD.

Before you get this game, know that this is literally a copy-paste of Fallout 4 with an evolved engine and with a space skin. Some people will say the formula is nice. And I think the game is fun. But to mark this title as GOTY material is simply out of boundaries. By all accounts Baldur's Gate 3 is simply better. Even Cybepunk 2077 with the upcoming 2.0 release is better.

Again, this is a good game. I like it, but it's not the legendary game that it was set out to be. And the fact that Bethesda acknowledges ZERO of the criticism from the players is what bothers me the most.

No land vehicles? : "you're supposed to walk!"
Poor performance? : "you should upgrade your rig!"

And the list of excuses goes on and on. This is not what a developer should do. Relying on mods to make the game good is not a very good strategy (and let's pray they don't decide to "curate" the mods and sell them to you).

Anyway, game is not the masterpiece some Bethesda fans make it out to be. And that is totally okay.

Lastly I want to talk about companions. All of them are "good people" that will incessantly complay when you perform evil actions (in case you choose to be a villain). Join the Crimson Fleet with Sarah at your side and you'll see what I mean.

There are literally zero evil-aligned companions in the game.

Join the Crimson Fleet and you get zero pirate companions. And so on. Companions are simply forgettable. And funnily enough, only the robot, Vasco, is the one that will give you some little memorable moments.

Maybe in the future with powerful mods and additional content released by Bethesda the game will get better.

I say if you like the idea of Fallout with 70's NASA or Alien's Nostromo vibes, get it. You'll enjoy it. But:

    1. You better have a good machine.
    2. Do not expect a legendary masterpiece.

At least, i WOULD have enjoyed it if it weren't for the absolute cascade of bugs. I've had about a dozen crash to dekstop's amongst other minor and major bugs. I meet the recommended system requirements for the game as well, installed the latest drivers, and my framerate bounces continiously between 20-40fps. But what really pushed me over the edge is that starting today - the game refuses to save my game. Pressing 'save' in the menu leads me to an error message saying "could not create save file" essentially meaning that ANY game progress i make from here on out is not going to matter. Troubleshooting leads me to that the culprit for many seems to be Microsoft OneDrive, but i don't have it enabled. Ergo, i can't even fix this myself.

I don't think i've ever had such a poor experience with a new release, and especially from a dev as renowed as Bethesda. Hence this poor review score. Stop releasing games that are a broken, buggy mess. Period.

This works for me too, but I can't really play a role. Bethesda does exactly that. The fact that you can't really fly in space is debatable, but I can turn to other titles, which however excel only in this genre. Bethesda manages to balance between various genres and the fact that they don't do everything 100% well doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the game. 2023 is once again a great year for games. -The game looks okay, but runs really bad on my system and please don't tell me I need a better PC. I certainly don't. Also missing a lot of obvious features like an fov slider or DLSS. What the hell? I'm using an AMD GPU so I'm not even affected. That doesn't mean it isn't bad tho.
-The story and gameplay loop (like I've said I've been playing for 12 hours so far) is just not good and pretty boring. Now I've heard people are saying things like "it gets better after 25 hours" and I do believe these people, but I don't think thats a good argument for a better score.
We are not talking about "a few hours" here.
-I just don't like Bethesda's writing, but normally I do like the gameplay and open world. The thing I completely hate about their newer games is that their approach regarding the writing feels like that the script / dialogues has to be 80% ""funny"" and only 20% serious. And even for a game like Fallout thats just bad.

I may change the score when they at least fix the bugs and bad performance.

One thing I do really love is how you can create or modify ships, that is a lot of fun and really well implemented.

If u look for open world space game, and you think starfield is for you, your better of with No man's sky from 2016. Since 2016 till now 11.09.2023 the game only got free updates that made No man's sky a lot better than Starfield. and i don't see a ray of hope that developers of Starfield will be willing to update the game for next 7/8 years to make it good. The community tried to tell Bethesda in 2015 with fallout 4. We tried desperately to let them know in 2018 and fallout 76. It's now 2023, and they are still on this engine. What doesn't help is that they lean heavy on the mod community to save it, saves them having to do it. But even then, the game will always have these loading screens and issues, just different graphics but same quality of graphics, same terrible talk animations, same bad ai.

They made us pay £80 ($100) for early access and I honestly we have been seen off. It's not the worst game but it is guilty of the worst game offence an expensive title can do...its boring, average, tries to be too many things and fails at them all. Each planet does not feel like anything more than a 'level' loaded in. There is no sense of immersion. However, if all you care about in games is the story rather than a story and excellent gameplay, then you might hold it in more prestige. Oh and pronouns are a thing and personally I hate all that woke rubbish. It's just a middling, average, none exciting, yawn of a game with no immersion, terrible ai in the 3rd person shooting bits. Its more a shooter than rpg, but nearly every jrpg has better combat. Its a looters game in which your just picking up weapon after weapon. Oh, and the game is not being review bombed. Many of the critique posts are 5 or 6's, these are genuine. Review bombs is straight up zero's. Do yourself a favour and get to a mates house to see gameplay before purchase. You may love it. But don't shell out all that money until your sure.

Sadly, Starfield does not have this. In fact, you can teleport from planet/galaxy to another planet/galaxy via the menu. Why the need to travel to space, then? LOL.

    2. Starfield is not optimised. I get frame drops and lags even on my rig, which is powered by an RTX4090. Seriously?

    3. The game was designed for the console and then ported to the PC. Cause Starfield was focused on being an Xbox console exclusive. So the menus, gameplay etc., are more designed for console/controller.

    4. Combat is fun. Yes you heard me right. The combat is a highlight of this game. It is tactile, impactful and the guns are quite fun. Customisations to guns are also quite good.

    5. Dialogue is weird. Often times you are left staring into the eyes of the NPC, sometimes, your soul gets caught in between.

100 bucks over for this game is just completely and utterly ridiculous. However, for Bethesda fans, this is by far, one of their best games they created.

Sometimes your follower will get stuck and when you go to talk to another npc where your follower has is supposed to be part of the dialogue, the screen will start teleporting back and forth because of the stuck follower. The base building and cargo shipment system seems completely redundant, which was one of the things i was most excited about for the game. Theres very little point in even having a base besides the upgrading benches you can find in the lodge anyway. Theres barely any customization, you have 4 pre set shapes of rooms you can have, instead of building your own shaped house, you only have the option to choose a square or a circle and connect to the same looking square and circle shaped rooms. The next issue is resource gathering, i went all out on resource gathering on the skill tree, which turned out to be completely pointless because even fully specced into it, going to the various cities and buying out the resources from vendors (which by the way costs close to nothing) turned out to be about 50 times faster than grinding it yourself. This also made the cargo transportation system you can have completely pointless too. The combat is equal to a 2005 FPS game and theres no mob variety at all. The main quest was miserable for 95% of it and the first half of it was basically doing the same quest 20 times over and over again, even 2 of the quests taking you to a location with identical building, identical mobs and an identical underground bunker location. Only during the last 3-4 hours of the main story did the quests get somewhat interesting. Those are just some of the issues, the game has a lot of problems, the potential is there after 4-5 patches or letting modders do their thing. All in all its just an okay game, nothing special and wouldnt recommend anyone buying it until it goes on sale. Expand

Playing this game cause tumours to grow in my eyeballs. I do not recommend. Not even pirating. Only get Starfield if you're wanting interactive ASMR and/or wish to be financial dominated by Todd Howard's latest and greatest hit.

Antiquated engine, antiquated design. Snore fest of a story. Characters are as complex as ply wood. Bethesda, please take your engine out back and pop a couple Subsonic .22s into it. Put it out of it's misery, God damn.

What people need to understand about the reviews here:

1 or 2 star - You can pretty much discount most of these. It’s review bombing, plain and simple. Even if you don’t like the game, this can’t possibly be an honest opinion. Any rational person knows the game isn’t anywhere near that bad. Why are people doing this? Many people are still bitter about Starfield not coming out on

Why are people doing this? Many people are still bitter about Starfield not coming out on PlayStation and they love to see things fail. It’s petty and predictable. The mid reviews are probably mostly legit. Among these are veteran gamers that expect amazing things from new games. These people generally have a very critical eye and see flaws before fun. That’s fine and I totally understand where they’re coming from. That being said, many had the wrong expectations like expecting a fully fledged space sim, which this was never promised to be. Another criticism are the loading screens (which are mere seconds by the way), which for anyone actually familiar with creation engine games knows is standard. I wonder how people can claim to have loved Skyrim and the Fallouts and then act like they are surprised and annoyed about this. The great reviews are from those that are genuinely having fun with the game. They’re from those who always loved Bethesda RPGs by and had healthy expectations for the game. 10/10 doesn’t mean perfect, but it does mean that people are having a 10/10 experience. My advice to anyone who wants to enjoy this: Enjoy it for exactly what it is: A highly polished Bethesda RPG set in space with a solid story, fun side quests and great activities. Immerse yourself in the world and leave your 2023 cynicism behind. Games are about escapism. Have fun!

Thank you, Todd! The best RPG over here for last 10 years. It has it cons (part of which can be fixed with mods), but Starfield covers it with hella lot of content. For new players I recommend to finish main quest line and start NG+.

I made a metacritic account just to fight all the unwarranted hatred for this game

This isn't No Man's Skyrim, this isn't Fallout In Space, this isn't Oblivion With Guns, this is a brand new IP, and deserves to be judged as such. Most negative reviews will rant on about how this game does that better, leave them to their echochamber, enjoy the game, there is so much love and creativity

Most negative reviews will rant on about how this game does that better, leave them to their echochamber, enjoy the game, there is so much love and creativity in this game, so much detail and care put into every aspect, are there flaws? Oh yes, so many, far from a perfect release, but I'm 46 hours deep of playing nothing but starfield and I can say I love every inch of this game, the story, the world, the guns, it's all so immersive.

This game is a slow burn, but it rewards you for playing, 46 hours and I'm still finding new guns and armors to play with, new factions to converse with, i even improved the aspect I hated the most, the ship combat, by experimenting and building my very own giant disk of doom.

It's not perfect, not even close, but it's not the nightmare people say, try it, if you don't like it, then it's not your cup of tea, but those of us enjoying the stars are having the time of our lives.

As a fellow 80 years old gamer, I can confirm that Starfield delivers what it promised, there are stars, and there are fields in the game

I find myself spending more time navigating menus and enduring loading screens than actually enjoying the gameplay. The planets lack vitality, and while I understand it's a video game and not reality, I wish they were more captivating. Unfortunately, every quest feels like a monotonous fetch quest that involves going through a series of loading screens—boarding my ship (loading screen), taking off (loading screen), selecting a planet (loading screen), landing (loading screen), disembarking (loading screen), and so on—just to retrieve an item and repeat the entire process to deliver it to someone else. It's incredibly frustrating.

Although the combat is decent, the AI is subpar, and challenging enemies often feel like bullet sponges. On top of that, managing the inventory is an exhausting task. There are no clear indications of what healing items do unless you scroll over them and read their descriptions, which is a hassle. Additionally, sifting through menus to determine if the 500th iteration of the same gun I've found is an improvement over my current one is a tedious process.

What surprises me the most is the good reception this game has received from critics, despite mixed reviews from users. These issues arent nitpicky, they are so obvious. From my perspective, it appears to be objectively average, at best. If I had to give it the highest possible rating, it would still be just average. The most disappointing aspect is that everyone claims the game improves after the first 12 hours, but even after investing 20 hours into it, nothing has changed. I've been patiently waiting for it to become more enjoyable, but it hasn't. The fact that it supposedly gets better only after hours of grinding to design ships and suits is disheartening, as it means I've already bored myself out of this game by that point.

Sensational!!! Masterpiece! It brings together elements from other Bethesda games like Skyrim and Fallout, featuring a unique character-building system without "closed classes," providing total freedom to the player. The game is open-world, making gameplay a lot of fun, with various weapons, equipment, and base-building. You can see some similarities with No Man's Sky, however, StarfieldSensational!!! There's a lot of flaws in space in Starfield. But that does not prevent me from exploring our galaxy again and again.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
