I paid $100 just to get a unfinished game that they bait and switched before the season started.

Devs ignore legitimate feedback and nerf everything to slow people down to try and squeeze as much time and money out of them as they can.

Beta version of the game for 70$. Itemization is total garbage, most of the stats are useless. Unique items are trash, you just sell most of the uniques you find. Class balance is terrible.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Horrible Development team. Deaf on public outcry and all issues with the game. Tries to disguise lengthy and tedious grinds as additional content. Claims months are needed to make simple fixes like adding additional tabs to bank storage or increasing mob density. Has defensive resistances completely non functional within the game and claims they will be fixed by season 3 (6 months away) but nerfed other defensive aspects anyways, before fixing other options (resistances). Game is open world but there is no social aspects, no group finder, many phases so running in to other actual players is kind of rare and there's very little interaction if any at all. Also in spite of all the phases there is a ton of lag so I don't know what the phasing is accomplishing. Also there is nothing really worth doing live world anyways, only world boss fights which only occur like every 6 hours which are a joke and there was helltides which were every other hour but now they just drastically nerfed those as well. It's as if the developers seek to shoot themselves in the foot with a game that had potential but was already heavily struggling. The itemization is absolutely horrible, with tons of useless and bloated stats ruining gear such as "shrine duration and useless resistances" the uniques are mostly terrible and don't feel powerful and the ones that are powerful are rarer than winning the lottery (literally). Their first season is introducing what is essentially legendary gems, and a crappy event mechanic in order to obtain them. That is all they could muster in terms of content. Not to mention the legendary gems and the power they will add (if you are lucky) is the mass amount of power they just removed from all characters in their latest patch. They improved xp gains from nightmare dungeons which was a large improvement even though it still required over 100 hours of FOCUSED grinding to hit max level. Their pvp zone is atrocious with lvl 100s being in the same zone and able to attack lvl 70s with ease. Basically there isn't really anything good to be said about this game right now. Save your money. Expand

The game has potential but Blizzard seem hellbent on destroying it with a series of poor decisions. There are so many mind bogglingly bad decisions being made regarding the game, both in terms of its original release state and the ongoing balancing process.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Patch 1.1.0a was a mistake and a disaster. Every single build in the game was gutted. Especially barb builds that relied on Vulnerable, Crit and HOTA. Blizzard is an incompetent company and anyone on Xbox who wants a refund can do so at xbox.com/refund

Skip, beta at best and patches that reduce the enjoyment of the game. Play if you want to invest time in progression of a character that will be nerfed.

devs are incredibly out of touch, but what do you expect from activision blizzard? it’s obvious they’re trying to make the game even more of a slog to keep people online and hopefully buying trash in the cash shop or grinding the future battle pass. maybe they made it this bad to get people to play diablo immortal.

Played a lot of D2, a lot of D3 after the game was playable and cant believe what Bliz did to Diablo 4.. maybe i could give 3/10 but with the Patch and the 1st season crap ive to give 0/10...

They're setting this game up to be an agregious pay2win grindfest. Not all that surprising considering this is the same predatory company behind Diablo Immortal. I and many others are probably feeling really dumb right now for giving them our money considering their track record.

I would have given it 7/10 before this patch. Now, I have a choice between killing monsters 5 levels below me for no XP, or 3 levels above me for +4.5% XP instead of +25% XP. Rating: ZERO

Genuinely confused on where this game is heading. Probably my least favorite ARPG ever. It's disrespectful how the developers abuse my time with this half-baked game. There is nothing to do past level 50 that is worthwhile so save yourself some money, time, and dissatisfaction. Crooks.

Blizzard should have learned so much from all the fixes and improvements they had to make to Diablo III to make that game fun.

Worse, development team seem to not just be completely out of touch with what players actually want, they seem to be deliberately at odds with it.
The overwhelming, #1 criticism of the game is that the endgame is a slow, boring, slog. The latest past nerfed player damage and survivability, buffed monsters, lowered experience gains, and increased reward costs... 100% the opposite direction of what players are clamoring for.

With the recent patch, the developers thought it was a good idea to slow the players progression since since we don't have any new end-game content. Doesn't address class breaking bugs (i.e., stacked modifiers that scale certain classes' damage output absurdly like the Druid's Shred) but hey let's make the dungeon leave time to 5 seconds instead of 3!

Blizzard has continued to hone the "how to lengthen player interaction" idea to an extreme at this point. This game is no longer a power fantasy where you are smashing the minions of hell, you're too busy tp'ing back to town to refill your health potions after every fight with a random mob to be able to fantasize about anything.

Why there are not already 200+ unique build defining items actually obtainable? In high levels all you keep getting are the same uniques while wishing for non-unique items with marginal stat boosts.

This game is boring as **** once you have progressed to end game - it's nothing to do.

On a side note the campaign was very good and deserves a better score, but for those who like to really dedicate your time to a game (my perspective) don't expect light at the end of the tunnel past that point.

This most recent patch, however, feels like a huge step in the wrong direction. It feels like they saw that their players were arriving at the end of the game faster than they expected, and to stymie that in this upcoming season their solution is to make every part of the game more cumbersome and less fun.

In this current state I cannot in good faith recommend this game to anyone as it feels like the player and developer relationship, while initially cooperative and positive, has now suddenly shifted to an adversarial relationship. A game that receives regular updates in which the developers fail to understand their playerbase will undoubtedly lead to increased hostility and frustration between both sides.

Fun detected? NERF. Efficiency detected? NERF. They are determined just like in WoW to swing the nerf bat until everything fun or eccentric about the game has been smoothed out, sanded down into a homogenous beige, safe experience that needs little to no moderation or intervention ($) from paid service teams.

Abusing the Blizzard name is close to its expiration date. The whole studio stinks to high heavens.

The game does not meet the expectations set forth by the advertised features and overall gaming experience. After spending considerable time playing the game, I have come to the conclusion that it fails to deliver on multiple fronts, including the core gameplay mechanics, balance system, patches, and endgame content.

Diablo 4 does not match the product that was initially advertised. The promotional material showcased a thrilling and immersive gaming experience with a rich storyline and engaging gameplay. However, upon playing the game, it became evident that the actual product falls short of these claims. The promised features, such as a seamless balance system and compelling endgame content, are lacking and do not align with the marketed promises.

The balance system in Diablo 4 is highly flawed. The game fails to achieve a fair and enjoyable experience for players due to imbalanced character classes, underpowered or overpowered abilities, and an overall lack of attention to detail in terms of game mechanics. This imbalance not only disrupts the gameplay flow but also undermines the sense of fairness and competitiveness that players expect.

The patches released for Diablo 4 have been subpar and insufficient in addressing the game's issues. Despite the community's consistent feedback and bug reports, the updates have failed to address critical bugs, improve gameplay performance, and deliver substantial content updates. This lack of effective patching shows a disregard for the players' investment in the game and undermines the overall experience.

The endgame content in Diablo 4 is severely lacking and fails to provide a satisfying and fulfilling experience. The advertised promise of a robust endgame with engaging activities and rewarding challenges has not been met. The limited options for progression, lack of variety in activities, and absence of substantial rewards make the endgame feel shallow and unrewarding, leaving players with a sense of disappointment and frustration.

Considering these significant discrepancies between the advertised features and the actual gameplay experience, I kindly request others to not play this game.

Missing basic QoL features, sorcerer has been useless since day 1, nothing has been done to prevent it. Fun things get taken out in hours, while other gamebreaking bugs takes 3/6 months to be removed. Also patch 1.1 is just a slap in the face of everyone who loved the game. I’m out.

I immediately felt the power loss as i logged in to play my character after the patch. After slogging through the campaign and dealing with the low damage of my class, it now carried over into the mid and late game. It sucks cause i was just starting to have fun. By no means was my build perfect, but it was feeling like it was coming together. Now i feel like i got kicked in the teeth and the game is now telling me i need to play another 30+ hours to achieve the power i had just began to unlock. I really hope they do something about this. While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.
