So this is the point of view from a casual player looking to play single player. None of the complaints about balancing, nerfs or the endgame complaints from someone looking to sink 500+ hours in a game.

I approached this game expecting an uninspired but solid game that I could complete the campaign and move on. I have a backlog of games to play and I don't need to play something
So this is the point of view from a casual player looking to play single player. None of the complaints about balancing, nerfs or the endgame complaints from someone looking to sink 500+ hours in a game.

I approached this game expecting an uninspired but solid game that I could complete the campaign and move on. I have a backlog of games to play and I don't need to play something forever. Sadly despite my bar being set really low I was disappointed.

-Gameplay feels lacking with very few builds or diversity.

-For gear yellow rare items can be as good as legendary which is bad in that legendary items can and often do roll lower than yellows. You can transfer traits but that requires large amount of resources and you can only transfer once. for something you will replace in a couple levels it sucks. Many of the skills are super specific to just one build making most legendary items completely useless.

-Rubberbanding/sliding constantly. Sometimes during lag spikes which I believe are mostly server based. Not a new issue since diablo 3 also had online always but still sucks.

-collision with my own units making movement awkward(played necromancer) would sometimes need to move around to get minions to randomly move out of the way of object i wanted to interact with

-open world is fine if it adds to the immersion or exploration but it felt more like the open space was an obstacle to getting into more fights. ignoring 3-5 mobs not worth dismounting became the norm and I just ran from quest to quest with my horse when it was unlocked.

-The story was kind of so-so but it didn't really complete and left it super open ended to try to draw you back for more. If it is only added to seasonal I likely will not pick up the game again since leveling is a chore and the main campaign was long but not super enjoyable.

The overall end result is a game I wanted to play just to complete and didn't really enjoy. I ended up completing it only because I had the mentality of "I paid for this so I may as well finish". I was extremely tempted to drop difficulty part way through campaign not because it was hard but because I wanted to be done sooner. By the time I unlocked Torment and completed campaign I was done with diablo 4 and did not want to touch endgame or try getting unique gear. I regret my purchase and do not recommend unless you want to burn time and money and have nothing better to do.

A game released unfinished missing ALL the quality of life and good things fought hard for in Diablo 3, just to get its first actual season with a patch that nerfs EVERYTHING (no joke everything into the ground) instead of fixing anything they restsricted the game play and what little "end game" there was to nothing. These people have NO idea what they are doing

I have never seen a studio that hates their players as much as Blizzard. This is the first time that I uninstalled a game due to completely absurd patch notes. It is so outlandish, so out of touch that it is honestly just comical at this point.

They do not want you to play their game. They only want you to buy it.

Boring grind, hardcore death do to server disconnect still has not been addressed. Online requirement is unnecessary, trying to find people to play with us impossible.

Campaign is boring, but the two main cinematics are epic. Quality ends there. The game is full of bugs, is slow to progress through and is unbalanced. There's exploits and cheesey strategies that have been discovered by a few and shared online with others. This led to Blizzard making wild adjustments to the game that made it miserable for the average player.

If and after you do spend all this time grinding - far more than what's reasonable, especially if you want to try other classes...you're rewarded with a fun end game loop? Nope. More grinding for gear that has perfect rolls and the right combo of affixes. This isn't unlike any other game like this, but it's much slower.

Unique items in the game? Nope. They're pointless and don't drop often or you get the really useless ones a bunch of times.

Re-rolling gear affixes? You may find out you get offered the same one but with a lower roll. Or you may get to choose from the same affix twice (wasted enchant).

It's just an epic waste of time really. For no reward. You get nothing for all the time invested. They didn't finish their end game content. You can stop playing after level 80 or so.

Such a wasted opportunity. They had momentum too. They threw it all away. Well, maybe they can fix it. Check back in a few months or a year.

ActivisionBlizzard just made everything harder and worse with their pre-season 1 patch. This has been one of the best Diablo’s I had ever played, and then they did this.

I’m now telling my friends who have not yet bought the game, who I had been telling to buy it, to not bother. Better games on the horizon. Actiblizz are the worst gaming company ever.

Easily the worst Diablo game made. Everything is bland and the progression is barely existent. Each update makes the game worse. Avoid it at all costs.

Just as the influencers start to showcase some builds that work, along comes the nerf hammer so it now feels like an unpleasant chore. It was fun for a very brief moment but now it’s a mess with a pointless season and an aimless direction other than to stretch as much out of the content as possible. While all the focus has been on endless re tweaking, the abundance of quality of life necessities that are required, sadly, remain unaddressed. Expand

Doing the campaign the first time and reaching WT4 was ok. Anything beyond that first experience is utterly lacking.

This is a game released with messy systems, absolutely 0 balance, no working itemization, no end game, buggy horse riding, terrible interface and inventory sustems, no loot filters, no economy, no social tools whatsoever. And a dev team that fixes absolutely none of these

A truly modern Blizzard experience ; soulless, boring, and without a shred of passion in its development and management.

Here we go again with the same thing in Diablo 4... The leveling grind in an absolutely bonkers grind. If you are just playing casually, good luck reaching max level anytime in the next couple months. The balance of the game is an absolute joke. You have tons of ridiculous damage stipulations, damage from far away, damage when close, vulnerable damage, crowd control damage, overpower damage, lucky hits, crit chance, crit dam, pyromancy damage, flame damage, damage over time, flame damage over time etc... so building your character is incredibly challenging and if you use your brain trying to figure it out to maximize your build strength you get totally overwhelmed by all the mind numbing gear you get! Just follow some build online! Make it easy for yourself. By the way, all that gear you get which most of is NOT an upgrade will have you wearing the same stuff for 15+ levels... especially if you are one of the unfortunate souls to get stuck in WT2 and actually enjoy exploring, doing dungeons, taking your time, because if you do not rush the main quest you will eventually be so over leveled that you will stop getting any gear upgrades dropping! Next the balance updates/patch notes. If you want to ever truly understand how out of touch the devs are for this game just follow them... im not going into detail, just take a couple minutes during your lunch break and actually read what they post for balancing this game. After you do so and shake your head thinking "wtf did I just read" you will soon understand that the devs do not know wtf they are doing! Go watch youtube videos of people who do know the game like the back of their hand so they can break it down for you. Bless any of you playing sorcerer. Its a fun class... but holy is it bad! Massive mana issues, pigeonholed into using 3 to 4 (out of 5) defensive skills (flame shield, ice armor, teleport, frost nova)... low damage for anything outside of ice shards... love fire but holy cow are most of the pyro skills bad( low dps) I could go on and on... im finally about to complete the main quest and leave hell (WT2) after beating the cap stone dungeon... hopefully. Who knows. Im so over leveled (lvl 57 currently) that I have no idea how good my build really is. Guess ill find out soon hopefully. I played how I wanted to play... how i do other open world games and feels I have payed for it. There is a side note though and ill try to be positive about something(s). I have enjoyed the story/main quest line, when I have gotten around to it. Lorath and Donan are stand out characters. I have not beaten it yet so there is a chance stuff can fly off the rails, but going into act 6 I can say its one thing I have really liked. Also despite how bad it might be (its hard to tell now being so overleveled) from a meta point... i do like my firewall sorc... i like being a pyro maniac... and there lies the most painful part of this game.. things you can truly like and enjoy... bogged down by awful, out of touch devs. Take care everyone, and if you are the one person who ever actually reads this whole review, I hope you have a good day. Blizzard transformed this game from an ok-ish experience (with promised improvements) into trash (w/o the "improvements") with the latest update.

Listen to the players you money-hungry id**ts and fix the game. Last Blizzard game I'll ever buy, Microsoft can wipe their as*ses with the IPs.

I am utterly enraged that an ACTION RPG is this cumbersome and slow. I regret spending so much money on this game. I utterly regret it. Blizzard to me is dead. I will never automatically now think that any future game of theirs will be any good. I quit WoW a few months ago too. I will NEVER buy another game of theirs ever again. Disappointing

The game is terrible, Microtransactions. Terrible gameplay loop. You reach a point where you continuously ask yourself why you are playing the game... there is no point. Whenever you level up enemies' level with you. Because of this you feel just as strong when you were in level 1, there is no point. The game is a hot mess, and I want my money back!

I've sunk a lot more than 20 hours into the game, but it was really only that first 20 that were fun. I waited until the first season patch to write a review, hoping they would listen to the community and make improvements, perhaps even adding features to make the game more fun. Sadly, the exact opposite has occurred. They have slowed down experience, made characters far easier to kill, taken any fun abilities and made them less effective while not buffing or even fixing skills that are broken or useless. It's almost as if the people making these changes don't even play their own game. Expand

if you just want to play the campaign, it's probably closer to a 5.5 or 6/10.

But, considering the goal is a seasonal model and the monetization reflects that, I can't give it higher than a 2/10. Everything outside the campaign is unfinished and at least a year or two away from decent. All the issues have been talked to death, but I will say that there are soooo many dev decisions

The game on release was acceptable, if not great. Then the devs actively made every single aspect of the game slower or more tedious for no apparent reason other than to artificially slow down progress.

At this point, Blizzard does not make games for fun. They make vile sociological experiments designed to extract a finely-tuned amount of time and money from the consumer. Come back

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.
