    The Good:
    - excellent game play in the beginning, especially levels 1-50.
    - the story is quite good, I enjoyed it and most of the boss fights
    The Bad:
    - renown sucks (because it is no fun). Farming it is not fun at all. Side-Quests are not fun to do, they are usually boring fetch quests or kill X enemies. The best part is when you run out of the enemy you're supposed to kill in the are, so you have to walk away and come back to finish the quest. But you feel compelled to do this horrible, boring grind because in the end of it all you gain +16 paragon points and other helpful bonuses. The only good part of renown is Strongholds. If Blizzard can remove or greatly reduce side quests and altars of Lilith in favor of more Strongholds, perhaps Capstone Strongholds this would make the game a lot more fun to play.
    - trading is worthless. You cannot trade legendaries or unique items. So if you're playing with your friend and you're the same class but different builds, and you get a legendary with an aspect that would greatly benefit their build, you cannot help them.
    - you have to wait until the end of act 4 to get your mount. The open world slows down your progression significantly in the early game.
    The Ugly:
    - The endgame is just pitiful. When you beat world tier 3's capstone dungeon (I was able to beat it at level 63, a little early albeit), you unlock world tier 4. This is when the game really stagnates and becomes a boring grind and a slog. At this point in the game the best thing you can do is just farm nightmare dungeons forever, hoping that ancestral or unique items drop. if you get a rare ancestral item you might actually be able to upgrade your build by upgrading it to a legendary. Most legendary drops are total garbage by this point and there are a LOT o f them. This is where the game mostly tests your patience, and your ability to just WAIT for that better ancestral item or unique that you need to progress further.
    - Also gambling in the endgame becomes worthless, so obals also become worthless

All in all a lot of work needs to be done to make diablo 4 the masterpiece it should be. It has the potential to be the greatest ARPG ever, but right now the mid and end game are mostly a bad and boring grind. Please fix renown, as it is probably the worst aspect of the game right now

The game, which was already criticized for its slow pace, has been further bogged down by a series of nerfs that have affected every aspect of gameplay. All classes have been weakened, enchantment costs remain high, and the Helltides, a key feature of the game, have been slowed down. The patch has also severely nerfed boosting and reduced the experience bonus for killing higher-level monsters by a staggering 90%. The changes to critical and vulnerable damage, nerfed by 17% and 40% respectively, have further reduced the game's appeal. The game's pace, already a point of contention among players, has been slowed down to a slog, making progress feel tedious and unrewarding.

Adding insult to injury, even the teleportation mechanic, a seemingly minor aspect of the game, has been affected, with the channel time for the Leave Dungeon ability increased from 3 to 5 seconds. This change, while small, is emblematic of the overall direction of the patch - a focus on slowing down gameplay and reducing the effectiveness of various strategies and tactics. The result is a game that feels less like an epic battle against the forces of Hell and more like a chore. The excitement and anticipation that once surrounded Diablo 4 have been replaced with frustration and disappointment. The game, in its current state, fails to deliver on its promise, earning it a score of 0 out of 10.

Had fun for about 40 hrs as a sorc playing casually. Blizzard decided to nerf my build so I spent all my gold to halfway respec to a decent build. By the time I did that they nerfed that build. Sorc is already garbage and the recent patch killed them. Blizzard knows nothing about their own game and it shows. Skipping season 1 and possibly even playing the game ever again.

The blatant disrespect and lack of care for the community who supports this company is unmatched. Everyone here is a paid customer. The intent seems to be to slow the player down in order to keep players grinding as opposed to actually improving the game itself. The nerfing of the eternal realm paired with the solutions to said nerfs in the new season is a very clear attempt to funnel people out of their current characters and into new seasonal characters. The premium battlepass linked into this seasonal character progression makes it quite easy to see the likely motivation for these changes. The devs want to make money off of the current player base. The way they make money is by getting as many players as possible to play in the new season for as long as possible in order to get as much exposure to and purchasing of the battlepass as possible. This is frankly a very scummy approach and very concerning for the future of the game. Diablo 4 isn't a bad game, it has strong roots to it, and with a little bit of work, it could be an incredible and long lived game. However, the current direction that the game is taking unfortunately doesn't suggest this outcome. Things may eventually start moving in the right direction, but currently the dev strategy seems to be focused on profit over enjoyable player experiences. Hopefully the negative reception to their current direction moves things back on track, but with the current state and direction of the game, I'd advise waiting to see how things turn out. Paying $70 for a game that is seemingly being developed with the primary intent of farming you for more money is frankly not worth it. Hopefully Diablo 4 takes the Battlefront 2 trajectory and rebounds from a predatory game to a genuinely good production, but only time will tell. Expand

I've played Bethesda games that were better at launch than this. Fallout 76 wasn't this bad, and that game was bad. It's like Blizzard hates their playerbase. Every chance they have to make the game better they go and do the opposite. D3 had a rough start, but I didn't loathe the game. This is so bad. I'd get a refund if it was possible. I've played indie games from small studios that were better and did a better job of balancing and listening to players.

The game is not that bad. But the actual state (1.1.0) is lacking the fun of the series: killing enemies fast, drop loot, have a build that's adapted to your play style.

As the first season is live, it appears that the devs will not let the players have any of that: in each patch, they nerf loot and build, they buff enemies.

However, d3 season 28 is pretty cool. And cheaper.

At this point (and I'll admit, probably many points ago), Blizzard is just another game developer that stopped developing games and became another mindless corporation enslaved to their shareholders.

Do yourself a favor and just support the few AAA studios left that still have a genuine passion for storytelling and game design, and of course indie studios where raw talent and passion thrive.

Diablo IV is extremely boring. I could not play longer than 30 minutes without yawning.
    - Monsters and difficulty levels are scaled up according to your level, so every time, every type of monster represents the same difficulty. There is barely any challenge in fighting with the mobs in this game.
    - Quests are very repeatable, and their main purpose is to push you into another corner of the map just in case you forgot to waste your time on useless grinding
    - Dungeons are repeatable as well. There are a few types of dungeons: short corridor + single room or short corridor + one cavern where you have to fight against a tiny group of enemies. A few seconds later, you can leave the place with a supertiny amount of exp and crapy loot. Please believe me - loading time takes longer than completing such dungeons. More complex dungeons are built from pre-configured coarse-grained modules, so after 3rd map, you can see the pattern: there is always a roundabout, and there is always a need to collect two things (keys, boxes, parts) that have to be delivered to the gate/blocked passage which leads to the big cavern/room with the boss. Always.
Loot...loot is boring. Do you remember how every weapon, armor, or other stuff had a unique look and feel in Diablo 1? Forget about it in Diablo IV. A few repeatable shapes of each type (with slightly different colors) of your equipment in a multi-gigabyte game in 2023...
Stats? Percentages and meaningless variables that you barely notice after a few hours.
    - Skills? Hahaha, Blizzard wanted to copy at least some tiny part from successful competitor PoE, so they added a skill tree. Tiny. Boring. Useless.
There are plenty of issues like this, and neither DLC nor season will fix it because the game is absolutely boring and destroyed at its core.
One of the most amazing things in Diablo was the cinematics. I played and progressed to the next Act mainly to watch the story development through outstanding pre-rendered animations.
In Diablo IV most of the cinematics were played using the game engine.

Don't throw your money into this.

WHY they didnt took something of the itemisationssystem from D2? It kept D2 living for almost 20 years. It did prove itself...
Apart from itemisation and lack of lategame, this game feels lonly as **** Can you believe that there is no LFG funktion?? not even a global chatlobby... the only way to chat global is the tradechannel, which nobody uses because trading in this game is trash!!! not even professional goldsellers are using the trade channel XD.
Next is the class balancing. ITS a joke... the differences between the classes regarding content clearing are huge.
The only good thing about the game was the Story. but that ends latest with lvl 50. Then you have a senseless boring grind in front of you, which most likely won't be rewarding at all from lvl 80 on.
And it is not that D4 has a toxic fanbase or anything... Content creators and gamers in general did spent a lot of time to give qualitiy feedback. There was not a lack of interest from the communitiy towards game development and blizzard got a lot of input. But what they are doing with it??? But let’s factor in that unique items are a thing of the past. There’s no more hunting for that SoJ or maybe The Oculus, ‘cause now, it’s all just a huge pile of item attributes which you can throw around at your own pleasure, with absolutely zero sense to it, ‘cause once you move up a World Tier, your items are useless any way.

The magic is gone. It’s an endless twirl of hacking and slashing supported with zero incentive to keep going. Factor in, you’ll need to start over every three months in order to access the seasonal content.

This is for sure the end of the Diablo series and it should be for Blizzard as well.

I'm also sick of having to either horde my affixes I like to imprint on gear later or change my build instantly around a different piece of gear. The lack of permanence to any commitment to the skill tree also cheapens the experience as you uproot your build around what the game does.

The itemization itself is bland, there's very little actual uniques and most the gear is not memorable. The effects on gear are bloated around way too many damage enhancements instead of focusing more precisely on the skill tree itself. You have increases around so many conditions. Increase to slow, frosted, chilled, vulnerable, overpowered, crit dmg, and it just goes on and on cheapening the direction to head in and also leaving a lot of screening through stupid gear.

The boss fights are weightless, you down everything easily all the time. The only time I felt a sense of challenge and gatekeeping was to advance to torment (being about 7 to 8 levels lower than the recommended but still attempting was the only point of fun I really had in the game).

The campaign overstays its welcome a whole lot. I won't specifically call out in the campaign drove me nuts, but having to repeat the same thing over and over was not fun.

Initially I had given the game about an 8 out of 10 until I realized just how meaningless and boring it is. I love this franchise, but this game needs to much work. I can't help but feel I completely wasted my money.

Blizzard/Activision kills another game with their greed. How many times is this going to happen before people finally stop buying their stuff? Buggy as can be.

A game focused on builds with no balance. A game focused on loot with no quality of life features for loot management. A game focused on leveling with no fun endgame. Sad what they've done to this franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game started off so well with a great story, until you hit endgame. If you want to keep up with everyone else and be capable you get one class option... If you want to be even able to attempt success as a sorcerer, you get one build option... your forced into using shards, with one adjustable spell slot. And your pick through paragon board and skillset must be exact or it will fall flat, NO room to experiment and have fun with other builds, even with 12k health you will still get 1 shot by EVERYTHING that is with every AC and Health increase available on the paragon board. Even using max rolled disobedience with God-rolled gear... even if you get the 840 item level weapon, a level 70 rogue or druid or barbarian with low rolled gear will survive better and deal more damage. And have options. I play magic based games for the fantasy of being a sorcerer/wizard/mage with the power of fire ice and lightning and that's what appeals to me, and I thought i could find here. To be able to kill the endgame boss as sorcerer you have to bring 3 extra armor pieces and swap mid combat. The number one defense we would have been entirely unfunctional which is resist all elements and specialized resistance to wielded magic. As well as instead of fixing this obviously RUINED class they keep buffing the enemies and making it harder, even level 100, invested heavily into defense, with very good gear, fully coordinated with high rolled stats and over 800 item level on everything, you will still get one shot by most everything during a helltide. The classes should balance, and all have options for different playstyles viable. But no, they say we built this game all around playing druids so druids can laugh at everyone else for being dumb enough not to pick druid.... I am sorry but I am very touchy about my size, I work really hard IRL to not be overweight. The idea of running around fat would just make me sick.... why would I want to fantasize that am? I understand for some it isn't a choice, and they can't help it, but it is very hard for me to not gain weight. Every other class can quickly burn down bosses and easily survive hordes. But for some reason as a sorcerer, your forced to have very slow damage to them until you stagger them, then you can kill quick, but if you don't swap gear in combat you can't get from staggered to dead fast enough. we should not have to work harder to play than other classes. There should be balance. Even people who play other classes feel sorry for us sorcerers and wish they would do something to improve our situation, but they just don't want people who would want to play sorcerers to enjoy their game. It's very saddening to me because I waited until reaching level 100 and unlocking full renown with very good gear and much time invested. I haven't even started the new season yet because of how disappointing the experience has been. I wouldn't mind starting over if playing a sorcerer actually mattered, but it doesn't. People can get chill and vulnerable easier with other classes/gear why do they need a sorcerer around? Why can't we have fun too? The story line is truly amazing, with wonderful cinematics. But all that that brings evaporates the instant you realize how unfair class balancing is. and we are playing another game that even though a gear says a certain percent, you cant trust it because they have adjusted to performance of the metrics to not match what the gear says it should do, 30% should be 30% period.... if you get above 100% resist you should be healed for what goes over it, and let the stat actually function. Literally all the items that come out are trash anyways. Ciders drop way less for some reason they said it's a bug. I think they nerfed it and got backlash so they pretended it was a bug that's BS. Now teleporting out of a dungeon is 5 seconds instead of 3 it's like they added time to it. There was a lot of bugs and broken things in the game. Did they fix it ? Hell no they rather nerf everything and they don't even fix the stuff ppl are asking for. The devs need to get their act together. Now no one wants to play hardcore because of the stupid nerfs. This doesn't even feel like a diablo game anymore they are trying to change everything and make their own game. No one wants that we just want a normal fun diablo game but no the devs only listen to their egos no wonder why they have such bad backlash.

They need to hire devs that actually care about their game instead of making everyone upset. It's sad when a game comes out with patches and has backlash every single time. Doesn't that tell them that their BS isn't working ? Fire the devs and hire diablo 2 devs to save this dumpster fire of a game. All I gotta say is if the devs continue on being so clueless about their game soon they will kill it. One more thing stop showing diablo immortal stuff during streams no one cares about that trash game geez clueless devs smfh....

This game is complete trash, and if it was only graded on gameplay alone it would be a fat zero. The graphics are the only redeeming quality

Game is a decent experience unless you want a complete game, it will always be bad so that when they release the good they'll do so with a price tag attached, by this way controlling the flow of gamers.

    Armor skins:

Blizzard "developers" stated that the armor skins you can collect for free in the game are of the same quality but the shop armor skins are much cooler, which makes them much less cool which makes literally all armor skins in the game uncool.

I suppose some people don't care about how the core game suffers because of Blizzard's intentional design in many areas this "design" is similar to the armor skins.

And if you think about this more and more you'll eventually see this NASTY practice all over the place in their games.

It didn't use to be this bad, but it is now and I don't see it changing.

Every patch they release is an insult to my intelligence, they can't patch away their greed no matter how many useless "5% more/less for this thing" patches they release.

Blizzard was promoting their Diablo Immortal game in a 20 minute "over hyped super high vibe omg this is the best" developer livestream before they were to announce season 1 features for Diablo 4. That's a nice way to insult your audience no? I remember vividly, hordes of players were screaming in agony in twitch chats.

But again, Diablo 4 has alot going for it. It's just a shame that it could have been a much better game, had much better multiplayer features(lobbies, chats - ways to play together). Could have had better less incremental idle game loot structures(Diablo 4 loot makes me miss Diablo 3 loot, and sure Diablo 4 has further longevity compared to Diablo 3 loot curve but when you hit the end it's inferior to Diablo 3).

But why talk about D4 or D3 loot when D2 loot was much better than both. D2 also had better multiplayer functionality than D4 which is very strange considering the age difference.

Not once when playing D2 did I ever get frustrated over being phased around while joining friends groups or having to study for my PhD in porting science to understand when I can port to my party members in open world.

But why make a good game when you can use a solid foundation to create cheap bait to hook players over and over again. And with this concerning how multiplayer is underdeveloped in D4, I'll assume it's on purpose because why wouldn't they.

People would just simply love D4 too much even without changes or patches or seasons if it had the qualities of D2 but grander, and the multiplayer functionality of D2 but better. Why would we even want stupid seasons or updates then? We would simply be happy the game exists and enjoy playing it.

Blizzard is a horrible, unhinged games company, and they'll go unregulated for a long time ahead and they'll evolve their horrid practices over time.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the past few years of trying to enjoy their games has only enforced my perspective. Needing copium, pretending/roleplaying that I'm not surrounded by the horrors is what I need to enjoy their games now.

Have thousands of hours in Path of Exile and other ARPGs, had some hopes to maybe buy this game sometime after release. And after the latest patch notes.... those hopes are gone...

Was not that surprised after OW2 disaster tbh, hopes are gone for Blizzard in general at this point...

A Catastrophic Disaster - Diablo 4's Recent Patch Ruined the Experience

I can't even begin to describe the sheer disappointment and frustration I've experienced with Diablo 4 since their recent patch. It's like the developers were trying their best to take a great game and systematically destroy everything that made it enjoyable.

To start, the servers were an absolute disaster at launch. It's mind-boggling how a game of this magnitude could have such a catastrophic server failure. It's as if they didn't anticipate the number of players eager to try the game, leaving us all stranded with connection issues and unable to even access the content we had paid for.

The so-called "changes" the developers implemented have been nothing but infuriating. They seem to have a sadistic pleasure in making players rebuild their characters repeatedly, rendering any progress made in the game completely futile. I invested time and effort into building a character that I enjoyed, only to have it stripped away by an ill-conceived patch.

The lack of availability of the season pass for months was simply inexcusable. Players who were looking forward to additional content and rewards were left in the dark for an unacceptable amount of time. It's like the developers couldn't be bothered to address their own issues, let alone keep the player base engaged with new content.

Perhaps the most infuriating aspect of this whole ordeal is the developer's response to players' legitimate concerns. Instead of acknowledging the problems and promising to improve, they have the audacity to tell us to "play another game." How disrespectful can a game development team be to its loyal fanbase?

The state of the Diablo 4 community is a testament to the developers' blatant disregard for their players. The community is not just unhappy; it's enraged and demoralized. We had high hopes for this game, but instead, we received a slap in the face with every poorly managed decision the developers made.

In conclusion, Diablo 4's recent patch has been a complete disaster. The game is in shambles, and the developers' lack of communication and understanding of their player base has caused irreversible damage. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this game to anyone. Save yourself the frustration and heartache and find another game that actually respects its players and values their time and dedication.

I really wanted to love this game. It had a great concept, basically Diablo 3 meets Skyrim. But Blizzard somehow made that boring. And the first big patch proves they don't care about customers, feedack, gameplay, or anything else. They chose instead to make the game MORE boring.

Open world. Non-sequential quests. Tons of side quests, often found at random. Seems like a great recipe for a fun game. But the gear you find is mostly junk. The characters are underpowered and constantly struggling just to walk down the street. Endless waves of monsters. Constant online requirements. Repetitive gameplay with essentially zero reward for the grind.

I'm just sad. I got my Sorceress to level 51 and every choice by the company has been to ruin my experience. I give up. Maybe I'll come back in a year or two to see if they finally listened to their customers and made it a fun game to play. What a waste. I was looking forward to season one, but there's no point in the endless slog. There are better games than this out there, still waiting to be played...

I was playing the game, not enjoying it so much, because the itemization, and all that wasn't great. But then the 1.10 patch came that made it a slog xp wise on the eternal realm, nerfed all characters in order to funnel us to the battle pass and seasons. So now it wasn't really fun before, but now its like a second job. I want to play on the Eternal Realm AND the Seasonal pass. There is NO point to play seasonal if you end up with a character once it become Eternal and its zero fun to play. This game will always have a nerf for every new season, that will gut your main eternal realm characters. Why haven't they done something with storage, why do we have to wait will Season 2 for a gem tab? Why, well because they want to make it a slow painful slog. I've been on the last couple of days and its a ghost town. Everyone I know quit the game, because it wasn't fun. If they come back, IF, why would they stay? Diablo Immortal's taint has... its just NOT Blizzard North anymore. Miss the days of DIablo 1 before Sierra Online ruined it with Hellfire. Spend your money elsewhere. Me, oh I'll keep playing Eternal Realm. Its my second job now. Do you think I want to actually have to interact with my family? Nahhhh. So yeah, see you in Season 1 along with everyone else who said they quit. Eternal Realm is a ghost town. Expand

Blizzard has failed in creating an entertaining game. It's a pity because the game looks and feels great, when it is working properly of course - the online nature of the game means you will probably spend a lot of time offline due to server issues.
The development are a bit too far up their own behinds to understand that a game, next to depth and length, also needs to be enjoyable.

The game was fun to play through at least one time, but making multiple characters was a tedious waste of time. The latest patch has ruined even the single-playthrough experience. Everything is more difficult and it just isn't worth the time even once.

At first, I was enjoying the game, then i progressed enough to see what a hollow shell of a game it actually is. I was going to give it one more chance with the new season, but the servers can't handle its player base in 2023.

    The Good:
-Cineamtics team still turning out great work, probably the only team producing things with any amount of care in them.

    The bad:
The story: Every character is a literal idiot who can't seem to recognize pure evil staring them in the face
The Gameplay: Ever watched paint dry but wished it was "darker and grittier" then this is it. Zero impact to any skills, slow as crap gameplay made even slower by bloated travel times in a completely dead and empty open world that exists to sell mount skins
The Company: Blizzard by and large is the worst AAA games developer currently, dethroning EA and UBisoft by leagues.

Refunds: If you paid by paypal. Call them and issue a chargeback complaint. Using the games ratings and news as evidence, you can easily make a claim that the product was not as advertised and failed to meet customer expectations

Credit Cards: Call the company and ask to do a charge back citing the same reasons. Your mileage varies here because it's per vendor.

NOTE: If you do this Blizzard will cry foul you violated their ToS and ban your entire account, if you're like me, this is a blessing. If they do I intend to then perform chargebacks on every game they now removed from my possession since their ToS is not across games

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.

The best Blizzard launch in a long time and a worthy game to be called Diablo.
