    blizzard you made your bed now sleep in it. Horrible, I'm just glad that Baldur's Gate 3 is dropping soon. My only gripe is, that it's not dropping soon enough.

    This is a game that could stand as a 20€ (max) in steam platform. That shouldn't have "Diablo" in the title. They scammed us.
    Bad itemization..casual-player focused...console-focused...zero economy.. Too bad for those who spent more than 70 euros to buy it and got scammed for those 4 days playing before official release because there is no economy to build into.

    I never review games but as a long time Diablo player and fan, I felt compelled to share my thoughts after playing Diablo 4 rand the subsequent Season 1 release.

    For context, I played Diablo 2 extensively. I played Diablo 3 and all expansions extensively. And I was a pre-order victim of Diablo 4. I have a level 80 rogue on the enteral realm and a level 25 rogue on Season 1. The    I never review games but as a long time Diablo player and fan, I felt compelled to share my thoughts after playing Diablo 4 rand the subsequent Season 1 release.

    For context, I played Diablo 2 extensively. I played Diablo 3 and all expansions extensively. And I was a pre-order victim of Diablo 4. I have a level 80 rogue on the enteral realm and a level 25 rogue on Season 1.

    The overall game is executed well in that it is mostly performant. I like the switch to a live service model. I also think that the main campaign storyline and cinematics are the best they've been since Diablo 2. This compliments are the best I can give.

    Eternal realm characters will run out of meaningful things to do starting around level 70. Many players have acknowledge a "rinse and repeat" formula for endgame and I can absolutely confirm this experience. What was great about the previous games was that while grindy, the hunt for great items made the time spent worth it. I am not sure how this team got loot so wrong, but it's not as rich as previous Diablo games. Arguably, the loot and item system is actually not even as good as Borderlands games, which borrowed heavily from the early Diablo games. It's one of a few things you wouldn't expect the dev and design team to miss. And miss they did. Which begs the question: why am I grinding through dungeons if the the reward system is so bad?

    Season 1 only released yesterday and I already have a level 25 Rogue. I'm not sure I'll be coming back to Season 1 after yesterday's binge for the same reason as mentioned above: there isn't enough to do and there isn't enough to motivation to continue. The Malignant Hearts partially compensate for the heavy nerfs from the unpopular patch, but even these lose their new luster pretty quickly, and there are so few of them, and several offer buffs you'd never choose if you had a choice. Again, the loot and reward systems aren't compelling for a game franchise known for creating really fun and viable builds, and the endgame grind is so slow now that unlocking buffs through paragon boards means most of you (and I do mean statistically darn near all of you) reading this will never be able to achieve your build potential before the season ends in October. Even Diablo 3 seasons were better executed than this, which gets to my main criticism...

    Diablo 4 lacks innovation and feels thin, chincy, flimsy and neutered as a result -- especially once you reach mid and endgame where the lack of innovation creates a boring "seen this before" experience. There are so many great ideas out there, ones that Blizzard probably considered at various points internally, and would mean so much to the community but also to their monetization and retention strategies. Examples include: the map is underutilized; world events are poorly timed; the commerce system is 20 years old and has somewhere between 3-5 currencies; co-op scaling is silly and has similar issues to the lackluster loot and reward system... I mean, we're talking about a $1B game 8 weeks after launch.

    Why does a triple A game still feel like it's working out beta issues? The worse question is: why did they get so much wrong?    … Expand

The loot grind feels bad, with the exception of finding a unique you've been hunting for, I feel nothing about drops ever. Looking through them for specific stats is boring at best, frustrating at worst. Legendary aspects, I appreciate the intent, they feel very bad. I appreciate that they give all kinds of build diversity and flexibility, but it's over complication in a way that feels horrible. Sacred and Ancestral items make it all worse. Magic and white items are literally useless. Bases have no meaning, I don't know why they don't just say "boots" or "gloves" when they drop, because different kinds of boots and gloves have no statistical impact, just cosmetic.

    My second main problem is progression. I can appreciate what they were attempting to correct. In Diablo 3, with dramatic power scaling you get to a point where you basically can't play with your friends. With progression tied to your level, you never feel like you're getting stronger. Every time you level you feel weaker. When I got into Torment I struggled to find reason to keep playing. The grind just wasn't fun. I played thousands of hours of D3, I loved it when it first came out, I loved it in its final form. There was a lot I didn't like but it never felt broken. I've played thousands of hours of D2 and nothing competes for the loot grind. You don't even need end game. Repetitive MFing is a constant dopamine drip. I feel like this game tried to take the best of both games and somehow ruined it all. Still giving it a 3/10 because there are good qualities but appreciate why it's getting 0's because the negatives far outweigh anything positive.    … Expand

With none of the quality of life features that are present in the other diablo game. I think a lot of people expected this to be a polished Blizzard game but what people don't realize is that Blizzard is dead. It's been dead for about the last 6 years.     People leaving bad reviews are out of touch. I max leveled 1 class pre-season and I have probably 150 hours into the game. I enjoyed just about every minute of it. I'm not a streamer or no-lifer. Just a dad who plays when he can (which means staying up late to play after the kids are asleep).     This game is a pile of sheet. I've no regret purchasing this for $99 like most of us said, the campaign is enjoyable, the rest is just lacking and with the most recent patch they basically killed it.

    First Diablo game in my collection and was expecting a new and interesting game where i can play over the summer. However i can assure you that the game did disappoint. Initially the campaign and early stages of the game was fun, but in the late game after world tier three it was more or less farming, and farming to build your characters so that you can farm more efficiently.     It was bad enough that the visuals and writing were tedious and uninspired, but now its just a grindfest after finishing the campaign. They keep nerfing characters and builds with a claim of "balancing" and 'making it fair for ALL players', but in actuality all it does it make classes mathematically unable to compete in end-game progression, let alone in PVP.     This could have been the game of the year, but with a weak storyline and very poor endgame players feel robbed of their investment.
    Little or no alterations made in the game in the so-promising season, make the game very poor to play, lack of ideas and the so-wanted game changes, makes Diablo the rip-off of the year!

    Lo he jugado hasta el nivel 50, y jamás lo he vuelto a tocar.
    Tenía intención de volver en la primera temporada, pensando que mejoraría. The campaign is really enjoyable but things slow down after you finish the campaign and unlock world tier 3 - and grinds to a halt soon after. 50 to 100 is a horrible slog with not much to keep you motivated to grind on, and to make things worse blizzard decided to nerf pretty much everything even remotely fun in patch 1.1.0.     As a sorc main the class was already broken. Resistance doesn’t work at all. After this patch they nerfed damage and made the already squishy class even worse. Sorc now is unplayable. They nerfed ex to make the game slower but most of the player base is casuals. I was already struggling to get my freinds to come back for season one and now there is just no way.     Diablo 4 is atm the best example to see a gaming company disconnects with their own player base, infuriate all fans and gamer and kill the game with the patch for the 1st season in this new released game.
    It's insane, disappointing and discouraging at once. I have no idea how they can fix it, but if they don't fix it..that might be the last Diablo game we will experience.

    I had fun doing the campaign. after the campaign you may as well stop playing. honestly I'm pretty mad I spent $70 on this game. feels like a $15 game with no replay value. There's no incentive to keep playing. I've been having more fun playing Chivalry 2 which is free on gamepass.

    Blizzard still hasn't fixed that the Necromancer minion builds are garbage. Anything other than whirlwind for Barbarian is garbage. The latest patch makes sure you get one shot by the charging fat dudes off screen. This game is not in a good state for grinding a proper endgame, which defeats the whole purpose of games like this.     5. Terrible balance. Druid can clear the level 100 nightmare dungeon while watching porn and jerking off. Meanwhile, sorcerers are playing dark soul 1 in level 50. ROGUE is somewhat better, still not much of a difference 6. Nerf Nerf nerf !!!!!! It's like Reaper from overwatch using nerf ult. Everything burnt to the ground. 7. No paragon preset? LOL . If I were to make another build, it takes annoying 10-20mins. 2023 game?.really?

    And the dungeon options are also ridiculous. Like there are only maybe 10 options? Players care about. Rest is pure trash. Like lightning thing, resource diminish, crit damage diminish, the shade Everything basically FORCE player to take certain actions are not fun and not rewarding.

All item drops are RNG, and the endgame activities become monotonous very quickly. There are no "chase items" because of the RNG, and uber uniques might as well not exist.     After the first season it is very much clear that they do not know the basics as well.

Which means yes, I think diablo 3 is better than 4. It's that bad.

    Released only 6 weeks ago, full AAA price and they are aleady taking advantage. Season one comes with a huge across the board nerfs which makes the base game an absolute chore to play. "But hey why not buy a season pass" play the new season content to get back some of the character power lost from the nerfs.

    Head of Balancing: Well, I think so? We buried her.
    Head of Development: But she still has quite a lot of followers! Take care of it!
    Head of Balancing: Okay, we'll dig her up again, and burn everything thats left! Just to be sure!

    Either the developers are completely oblivious to their own game mechanics or it's a deliberate action to slow down players and generate longer playtime per player to improve the statistics (KPI). Instead of finally creating decent endgame content, they simply stretch the path to the endgame indefinitely, so the lack of content isn't noticed as quickly.    … Expand

Build up the bad to make it better, don't tear down the good. I've been playing since Diablo II. I almost deleted my Sorcerer and uninstalled this game. But I have faith that yalls at Blizzard can fix it.

    I have been playing Diablo since the first game released in the 1990s and Diablo IV since the the early access in June. I'm thoroughly enjoying Diablo IV. The campaign is compelling, the art is amazing, and I enjoy the numerous nods to the previous games, especially running into old friends and older enemies. I can tell that the team are fans of the franchise and not trying to remake itI have been playing Diablo since the first game released in the 1990s and Diablo IV since the the early access in June. I'm thoroughly enjoying Diablo IV. The campaign is compelling, the art is amazing, and I enjoy the numerous nods to the previous games, especially running into old friends and older enemies. I can tell that the team are fans of the franchise and not trying to remake it into something else. Changing set bonuses into "aspects" that you can mix and match on your gear is a brilliant departure from the previous games. I like the skill system and the paragon board, especially how certain glyphs on the paragon board incentivize investing in stats I might have ignored otherwise.

    Yes, there are annoyances - the stash is far too small and barely functional for example - but they aren't fundamental problems with the game design and I'm confident they will eventually be fixed. I see the balance changes (aka nerfs) as a positive for my style of play. For me, ARPGs are about trying different build gimmicks not two-shotting the uber boss. killing less-geared players in PvP or billion-damage crits. I play for my own amusement, not to compete with other players, or to generate social media content. If you are a more competitive player, I would probably recommend waiting for leaderboards to be added. At that point, I'm guessing the balance changes will be less drastic, so any time you invest in developing strategies to level and gear up quickly won't be completely undone by one patch.

    I can sympathize with players that are upset they're going to have to go back to the drawing board for their builds. But for me this is why I played seasonal characters exclusively in Diablo 3. I like creating a fresh character and trying fresh build ideas instead of having to retrofit existing characters to take advantage of the new items or fix gear that is no longer best-in-slot for a particular class.    … Expand

Boring boring boring boring and boring. I used to hit between 300 to 600k and now i hit 50 to 200k. Now fights drag out making the fighting and progression slower. They also randomly changed an aspect on my focus. Can we have more viable builds please? it dont want to play 2-3 classes with max 1 build each to be among something that tends to be fun. friggin' disappiontment!

    A big part of the game is its slot matchine random rewards system whereby it drops random items, but some class-specific uniques don't drop over the course of 100h of play like Tempest Roar for the druid while at the same time you get 10+ copies of the equivalent item for another druid build.

    To top it off, they now have nerfed everything in the game to, I guess, have a KPI to show progress towards now that they can't easily increase "Number of active players". This pre-season 1 patch took a game that was ok despite the bugs and removed all that made it fun. But I guess this is what I get for buying a service at a fixed rate instead of a game and expect the provider to have fun and enjoyment and the player's interests in mind.

    I gave Blizzard the benefit of the doubt with Diablo IV despite Diablo Immortal, and I really wanted the game to become another classic but it's clear to me that it's very unlikely to happen at this time.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start from the beginning! This game had a massive hype, thanks to all the media push. Fine, but if Blizzard wanted to ride that hype and reach as many players as possible, wouldn't it be in their best interest to release a clean, smooth, and most importantly, finished game?

    But no! The game was released unfinished and poorly thought out. Just the fact that you get stuck on invisible corners with the horse is a complete no-go. And let's not forget the mere 4 stash tabs, while you have to farm endless rare items just to compare and try to make something better out of them. Gems are stored in the stash, too, which already lacks enough space. And don't get me started on the useless crafting system! All those crafting material you collect in the open world are basically worthless since you can't craft any rare items. To top it off, you end up with a ridiculous number of mods/stats on items that are totally unnecessary. Who needs resistances? They're utterly useless when you need damage stats like crit hit chance, crit hit dmg, vulnerable dmg, etc. The few defensive stats are %total armor and HP, etc.

    Sure, the campaign itself is fantastic, and the cinematics are absolutely breathtaking. But after that, the game is more or less over. The endgame goals are reaching level 100 and killing Uber Lilith, and that's it. Once you hit level 100, max out the glyphs, and have almost perfect stats on your gear, the game is done. There's no point in running Nightmare Dungeons since you can't improve anymore.

    Oh, and the Helltides! Until a recent update, they didn't even drop unique items. Players didn't even know about it! So, trying to farm for specific items was a lost cause.

    Now, let's talk about the audacity of asking for 70€ for a game and then throwing outrageously expensive skins into the shop, along with a battle pass. They should be offering way more for what they're charging. It's an absolute disgrace!

    As if that wasn't bad enough, the last patch was pure harassment. They increased teleport time from dungeons from 3 to 5 seconds. Why? What's the reasoning behind that? They can't even provide a proper explanation.

    And on top of that, they nerfed almost all stats for each class. Classic Blizzard behavior! If, for example, 2 stats aren't performing well, they drag down all the others to the level of the bad stats, instead of adjusting those 2. A perfect example is the nightmare dungeons, where the monster density was high, and people loved running them. But after the patch, instead of adjusting the other dungeons, they destroyed everything and reduced the fun for the community.

    I have no idea what Blizzard's goal is, but with this attitude, they won't retain any players. It's just infuriating!    … Expand

    The campaign was really interesting and fun, got with it somewere lvl 40-50, but after that is just painful to play, loot are trash, extreme grinding for a "unique" item to make your build work, chests not rewarding just waste of time, classes not balanced and in the end they came with a massive nerf to all classes making them even weaker and harder to do any NM dungeons.     The game was fun... until level 50. Then, it became a grind, grind again and grind some more chore. There are no sets, like in the previous games, and legendaries are -most of the time- just garbage. Uniques drop only in higher difficulties.
    Then, Blizzard released patch 1.1.0. and nerfed ALMOST everything player friendly.
    Make yourself a favor and don't buy this game.

    I have no idea who the genius is that approved all these season 1 mechanics but they should be fired or placed into another role of responsibility. Blizzard continues with poor implementation and backtracking when met with pushback.     Diablo IV was okay before the 1.1.0 patch, after the patch it's hardly fun anymore. It takes ages to level up, your own damage is really bad and you just can't take any more damage. You no longer feel powerful. Main story and graphics are good.

    While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.
