The Graboids, and their offspring the Shriekers and Ass-Blasters, have overrun the valley but are on the government's protected species list. The locals are (barely) allowed to live there rather then leave their homes, as long as they don't harm the creatures, particularly the giant Graboid known as "El Blanco." Complicating matters, a secret government lab accidentally unleashed a gene-blending substance called "Mixmaster" into the area, occasionally causing various animal-types to recombine into new monsters. The natives of Perfection include survivalist Burt Gummer, 60's hippy-type Nancy Sterngood, and grocery store owner Jodi Chang who all try to make a living. New to Perfection is tour guide Tyler Reed and Rosalita Sanchez, a mysterious woman with a past. Government representative W.D. Twitchell keeps an eye on the whole situation. The series lasted one season on the SciFi Channel before being ignominously cancelled. A fourth movie was released the following January.

After an expensive live-action miniseries based on James Gurney's first two Dinotopia books aired to a so-so audience in May 2002, this regular series spin-off (which featured a completely different cast) bombed in the fall. Only six of the 13 episodes aired before the series was canceled due to poor ratings.

Jayne is the muscle of the crew. A tough, uncultured Mercenary, unpleasant and offensively direct, but loyal to those on his crew...usually. The newcomers are: Simon Tam is the Doctor on Serenity and comes from a wealthy family and has a privileged upbringing. He has spent his life savings and future to save his sister, River. River (aka The Fugitive) was experimented on by the government. Her psychic visions (a result of the experiments) are taken at first as babble by the crew but they slowly come to realize that there's more going on than what shows on the surface. Book or "The Shepherd," is a wise minister who knows far more about military matters and battle tactics than a man of the cloth should, and his past is shrouded in mystery.

Smallville tells the tale of a teenage Clark Kent in the days before he was Superman. It is the town where he came from where very strange things started happening with his arrival in a spaceship in the midst of a meteor storm of green rocks. Clark must deal with a variety of individuals given powers by the green rocks, keep his powers a secret, cope with his friendship with a young Lex Luthor, and balance the two girls in his life, Chloe and Lana. The show also shows us how Lex Luthor develops from a friend of Clark's and kinda-okay guy to (presumably) the villain who will plague Superman in his later years.

Sydney Bristow was recruited as an undergrad to work for SD-6, which she thought was a government agency. However, when her fiancé is killed by SD-6 agents, she finds out that SD-6 is actually a counter-government agency. Sydney approaches the CIA and becomes a double agent, which means that she goes on SD-6 missions, but passes the information about her missions to her CIA handler, Vaughn. Sydney's father, Jack Bristow, is also an double agent. Both had a distant relationship for years, but their present situation brings them closer together. Sydney and her father spend the first season trying to foil SD-6's missions and preventing them from getting their hands on what they are determined to get. For years SD-6 has fought against FTL and K-Directorate, two crime organizations that are also in the pursue of various artifacts build by the 15th century scientist and prophet, Milo Rambaldi. However, when a new player referred to as "The Man" comes to town, FTL and K-Directorate are put out of business and SD-6 engages in the pursue of this new mysterious opponent. After eliminating SD-6 and all of the other SD cells, Sydney, Marshall, Dixon, Jack, and Vaughn are now fully working for the CIA.

The third season sees the crew searching the mysterious Delphic Expanse for the Xindi and trying to stop them before their next attack. The fourth season has the crew back home and opening up brand new adventures, one with special guest Brent Spiner. As of season four, T'Pol has officially left the Vulcan High Command and joined Starfleet Command, she has been promoted to Commander.The theme tune for Enterprise is titled "Faith of the Heart", performed by Russell Watson and written by Diane Warren.

Band of Brothers is a 10-part miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks for HBO. The miniseries follows Easy Company, an army unit during World War II, from their initial training at Camp Toccoa to the conclusion of the war. The series is based on the book written by the late Stephen E Ambrose. Tom Hanks approached Steven Spielberg, who just finished production of Saving Private Ryan. Together they approached HBO with their idea. The station was willing to spend a industry record sum of $120m to realize the project.

CBS premiered the much-hyped new action series on its Friday night lineup, which included fellow action series "Nash Bridges" and newcomer "CSI." Many predicted the new version of "The Fugitive" would become one of CBS's greatest hits, but the show only earned decent ratings for its first episode (curiously, everybody thought "CSI" was too morbid and wouldn't live to see a pickup, and it turned out to be the big hit "The Fugitive" was supposed to be). From then on ratings fell to an underexpected average, and eventually CBS decided to revitalize its Thursday nights with ratings magnet "CSI," bumping Dick Van Dyke's "Diagnosis Murder" to Fridays, where it took "The Fugitive"'s old time slot. Even with a good lead-in the ratings didn't rise (the show aired opposite "Who Wants to be a Millionaire," which at the time drew huge numbers, giving the show a push to death). At the end of the season, CBS decided to cancel the entire lineup. At least they had the decency to show the series finale - but not to tell the producers not to write in a cliffhanger. The rules of Survivor are simple: average Americans are abandoned in the middle of some of the most unforgiving places on earth. Divided into teams, they participate in challenges given by host Jeff Probst, and every three days, the losing tribe must trek to Tribal Council to vote out one of their own. Halfway through the game, the challenges shift to individual competitions when the tribes merge and become one. Now the game is every contestant for themselves.The game is simple: Outwit, Outplay, Outlast, by winning immunity, thus not being eligible to have votes cast against yourself. However, the players must be careful about who they send packing - because after the merge, a jury of previously voted out contestants begins to form, and each week they return to watch the Tribal Council ceremony. At the end of the game, they vote for one of the members in the finals to win one million dollars and become the next Survivor!Generally, each season begins with a twist - something different to surprise the new castaways. Not to be confused with Once and Again, which premiered during the same season, this CBS sci-fi series from Moonlighting creator Glenn Gordon Caron focused on a secret government project to create the perfect spy. After engineering the perfect human body (Eric Close, later of Without a Trace), the government gives it a brain taken from a dead man (John Goodman, who recurs via flashbacks), and he is trained by an espionage expert (Dennis Haysbert, later of 24). The show was canceled after its first season.

Together with an assortment of alien, robot, and human friends, he works for an intergalactic delivery service, Planet Express, run by his descendant nephew, and finds many adventures along the way.

Five years ago, astronaut John Crichton attempted to use the Earth's atmosphere to propel his ship, Farscape 1, at great speeds across the solar system. He went much further though and was sucked down a wormhole to a distant part of the galaxy and into the middle of a battle. He was rescued by a group of escaping prisoners and taken aboard their ship, a living ship. As the years went by, Crichton has made enemies, powerful and dangerous enemies. On his journey to find a way back home, he freed other captives who became part of the crew on Moya.

Detective David Hume and his android partner Ian Farve investigate crimes in the year 2070. The series is based on works by author Philip K. Dick that were adapted into the film Total Recall starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone. The series premiered in Canada on the ON TV channel and was shown in the US later that year on the Showtime cable channel.

This show is based on the box office film in 1998 'The Net'. After Angela Bennett a computer expert opens an unexpected email she is then thrown in to a world of terrorism, drugs, and money. The terrorists are called the praetorians, everything they do is build around the computer age. So the only way that Angela Bennett can fight back is through her computer but with her identity stolen and a new one created, she is wanted by the government and as one of the top 10 wanted by the FBI, she is also on the run. If the praetorians catch her they will kill her. So with the help of an unknown person called the sorcerer, the only way she can win is to stop what the praetorians are doing and get her identity back.

Set in 2007, Timecop follows the adventures of Jack Logan, the best agent of the Time Enforcement Commission. Based in Washington, D.C., the TEC was formed to hunt down time criminals who try to change the past. Logan's colleagues include TEC Captain Gene Matuzek, historian Dale Easter, and science/tech advisior Claire Hemmings, who in time becomes a TEC field agent accompanying him on missions into the past. The show was based on the 1994 feature film of the same name, which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme.

This sequel to the 1994 feature film Stargate chronicles the further adventures of planet-hopping Stargate Command (SGC) beginning a year after events in the movie. Though SG-1 was canceled by Showtime after its fifth season, production continued, with new episodes airing on the Sci Fi Channel (Syfy) for another five seasons, making it American television's longest-running science fiction series to date. Millennium was a television series that premiered on Friday October 25, 1996. The series was Chris Carter's much anticipated follow-up to the very popular The X-Files. Millennium focused on the work of ex-FBI profiler Frank Black, who had retired but was brought back in as a consultant. Frank had a special ability to see into the minds of serial killers and to get into their heads. He also worked for a mysterious organization called the Millennium Group which seemed to take a special interest in serial killers and end of the world prophecy. In the first season, Frank lived in Seattle with his wife Catherine and daughter Jordan. The show focused on Frank's work as a profiler. He spent most of his time in the first season trying to solve serial murder cases. During the second season, the show primarily on Frank's relationship with the Millennium Group. He separated from his wife after his violent rescue of her from a stalker. Frank learned that the Millennium Group was a secret society that believed that the world was coming to an end. During that season, Frank spent much of his time working with Millennium Group member Peter Watts and fellow investigator Laura Means. After the death of his wife at the end of the second season, Frank severed all connection with the Millennium Group and returned to work with the FBI. With the help of special agent Emma Hollis, he began to investigate the Millennium Group itself. The show changes direction again this season, however much of the long term questions that were raised during the first two seasons are answered. The show was canceled at the end of the third season, with an unfinished ending. In later 1999, the show received a conclusion of sorts in a crossover with The X-files entitled "Millennium." However very little closure is brought by this episode. There is however as of late rumors that Millennium may be brought back as a movie of some kind in the near future and finish the story. Taking place between the first and second RoboCop theatrical features, this syndicated TV spin-off featured Richard Eden in the lead role (originally played by Peter Weller in the 1987 film). The series ran for just one season, though RoboCop resurfaced on the small screen in a (more violent) Canadian miniseries, RoboCop: Prime Directives, in 2001.

Cordell Walker is a contemporary Texas Ranger working out of the Dallas office who believed in dealing with criminals the old-fashioned way--by beating them up. Despite the rules that governed the way law-enforcement officers were supposed to act. Walker's approach closely resembled the "eye for an eye" school of crime fighting. His partner is young Jimmy Trivette, who had grown up in the slums of Baltimore and used football as his ticket to a college education and a career with the Dallas Cowboys until he busted his shoulder. Despite Jimmy's belief in computers and scientific criminology, working with Walker, always seemed to leave him bruised and sore--when Walker was trying to get information or take people into custody it was more than likely there would be a fistfight or karate kicks. County Assistant D.A. Alex Cahill, his sometimes girlfriend, frowned on Walker's methods, even if they did get results. When not on duty Walker and the others hung out at C.D.'s, the saloon/restaurant owned by his buddy C.D. Parker, a former Ranger forced into early retirement after taking a bullet in the knee, who still provided help and advice on cases. Uncle Ray was the wise old Native American who had raised Walker. He died at the end of the 3rd season. Star Chuck Norris, former karate champion and movie star, played Walker in the deadpan unemotional style he used in most of his feature films. Nothing ever seemed to excite him, and the violence on the show had a cartoon quality about it. There was a surrealistic efficiency about Walker--he almost never broke sweat, got hurt, or wasted a blow--using violence because it was necessary but never glorying on it. This is Norris' first time in a TV series.

When the Cardassian occupation of Bajor ended in 2369, the mining space-station Terok Nor was left abandoned, its systems ripped out. By invitation of the provisional Bajoran government, Starfleet stepped in to oversee the rebuilding and day-to-day operations of the newly christened Deep Space Nine. Starfleet's position was a tentative one, many Bajorans suspicious and unwelcoming as a result of Cardassian oppression and brutality. However the alliance held and soon DS9 was a center of travel and commerce thanks to a newly found stable wormhole, leading to the largely unexplored Gamma Quadrant. Then after two years, the Dominion - a hierarchy of three separate species, the xenophobic Changelings, the diplomatic but shifty Vorta and genetically-bred soldiers, the Jem'Hadar - made their presence known. Seeing these new travelers coming through the wormhole as a threat to their power base, they decided to bring their version of order to the Alpha Quadrant... by conquering it. So began the war. At first fought covertly, then in plain sight, the war would soon drag each of their major powers in as their governments struggled against paranoia and shifting loyalties, thanks to Changeling infiltrators. This war wasn't for territory or power, it was for freedom.

Beavis and Butt-head was first aired on the U.S. cable network MTV in March 1993. This show, which combined animation and music videos, was an example of the unique programming that MTV has consistently provided for its youthful demographics. The half-hour program alternated between a simple narrative, which focused on the exploits of two low-life adolescents, and clips from music videos, which the two teens commented on. Creator Mike Judge had penned the aimless duo for a festival of animation when Abby Turkuhle, MTV's senior vice president picked up an episode for the network's animated compendium Liquid Television. MTV immediately contracted for 65 episodes from Judge, with Turkuhle as producer, and placed Beavis and Butt-head in the 7:00 and 11:00 P.M. week-day time slots. The characters, Beavis and Butt-head, are rude, crude, and stupid, and can be placed in the "dumb comedy" tradition, which includes Abbott and Costello, The Three Stooges, Cheech and Chong, Saturday Night Live's Wayne and Garth, and FOX's The Simpsons. When the show debuted, television critics differed in their opinions, with some praising the show for daring to present the stupidity of male "metalheads" who watch too much television (effectively satirizing the core MTV audience), and others categorizing Beavis and Butt-head as another example of television's declining quality. Beavis and Butt-head did find an audience and began pulling in MTV's highest ratings. But the show was also quite controversial, instigating heated public debate on the interconnected issues of representations of violence in the media and generational politics surrounding youth subcultures. Beavis and Butt-head they found, was especially popular with those in their twenties. It turned out to be bothersome to many that young people enjoyed the show and laughed at its two imbecilic boys, even if these fans were much more intelligent and much less grating than Beavis and Butt-head. In this sense, Beavis and Butt-head raised the issue of generational taste cultures. Definitions of "taste," Pierre Bourdieu notes, "unite and separate, uniting those who are the product of similar conditions but only by distinguishing them from all others. And taste distinguishes in an essential way, since it is the basis of all that one has--people and things--and of all that one is for others, whereby one classifies oneself and is classified by others." To the degree that taste cultures agree, they are brought together into a subcultural formation; but to this degree they are also separated from those with whom they differ. It was the "bad taste" of Beavis and Butt-head's audience which bothered many, and this brings to the surface another one of the reasons why Beavis and Butt-head was so controversial. Cultural critics, educators, and concerned parents gathered skeptically, sternly, and anxiously in front of the television set and passed judgment upon the "tasteless" Beavis and Butt-head show. And in an ironic reversal, Beavis and Butt-head countered by ascending the cultural hierarchy. The two youths channel-surfed, looking for videos that didn't suck (i.e. those with heavy metal or hardcore rap, those that contained violence, or encouraged genital response.) In becoming the self-proclaimed Siskel and Ebert of music video, they served to evaluate pop culture with an unencumbered bottom line--does a music video "suck" or is it "cool?" Beavis and Butt-head as a television show, was certainly towards the lower end of traditional scales of cultural "quality." But these two animated "slackers" evaluated other media, and so pronounced their own critical opinions and erected their own taste hierarchies. Beavis and Butt-head had their own particular brand of "taste:" they determined acceptability and unacceptability, invoking, while simultaneously upending, notions of "high" and "low" culture. In this, they entered that hallowed sphere of criticism, where they competed with others in overseeing the public good and preserving the place and status of artistic evaluation. They disregarded other accepted forms of authority, refusing to acknowledge their own limited perspectives. But like other critics, this was an important part of their appeal. After all, critics are sought out for straightforward opinion, not muddled oscillation. In this recuperation of the critical discourse, Beavis and Butt-head joined with their audience, approximating the contradictory impulses of contemporary cynical youth, who mixed their self-delusion with self-awareness. In the case of fans of Beavis and Butt-head, these lines of demarcation indicated both a generational unity and the generation-based barriers between the baby boomers and the "baby busters." The reputed cynicism of the "twentynothings" was on view as Beavis and Butt-head evoked both a stunted adolescence which was long past and an unsure and seemingly inaccessible future.

Amazing Stories is an incredible collection of short tales from the creative mind of Steven Spielberg. Most episodes ran in a half-hour time slot, with only a few going longer than that. In spite of the brevity of the show, each episode packs in a well-developed story, along with some subtle commentaries on human nature and morality.

GOT A PROBLEM? ODDS AGAINST YOU? CALL THE EQUALIZER! The Equalizer (Robert McCall) is a former agent of a shadowy, unnamed government agency, who is trying to make up for the unspoken sins of his past. His atonement comes in the form of an advertisement in the newspaper that features the above quote. McCall uses his finely honed skills, and occasionally, the agents and resources from his old agency, to combat the injustices perpetrated against those who can't seek protection from the law. He battles corrupt politicians, abusive husbands, greedy corporate executives, stalkers, kidnappers and gangsters to avenge those who are helpless. Sometimes, McCall's past comes back to haunt him when spies and international terrorists set foot in New York City and his former employer drags him back in to help track them down. In McCall's dark world, few people can be trusted. One man he always relies on is his former fellow agent, Mickey Kostmayer, who often assists McCall in his cases. Another is his former boss, a man known only as Control, who pulls government strings to give McCall a hand when he can. British actor Edward Woodward plays Robert McCall to perfection, bringing a dark undercurrent of anger and sorrow to the man while still allowing his compassion for the downtrodden to show through.
