    For some reason this show has lost its luster for me. The original premise of wild surroundings and having to forage for food was way more interesting than all the latest puzzles and challenges . Should be called Puzzle Survivor now. As a social experiment it has been interesting but the self reliance aspect has all but disappeared and it needs to come back!

    30 seasons, 465 castaways, 29 survivors! Survivor has become a classic and is the epitome of good reality television. It has become a classic, with good reason.

    Survivor is still the best "reality" show on television, imo. Season 31 premiering tonight will be a trip down memory beach as it brings back fan favourites from all seasons since the premiere in 2000.

    A good reality show with not much fake to it. There are auditions for the cast, and some scenes are reshot (with the same results), and there is a bit of suggestion with the votes from the crew ("what would happen if this person is voted off?" -camera man #3), but, overall, it's fun to see what they do to change up each season.

    They've had people from all walks of life interacting, and, working in a supermarket, I can say that a whole lot that happens on the show really does happen in real life as well.
    I just wonder what they'll do for their 100th season, 35 years from now.    … Expand

    Anyone who has worked in an office can identify with the tribalists' permanent state of exhaustion and paranoid mistrust, so Survivor's chief goal in the upcoming weeks is to make distinctive some of the initially rather bland-seeming participants.

    The show's aura of jungle mysticism is so overblown it's hilarious. I love how the castaways have to kill rats for food and make fire with sticks, but the tribal council meetings take place on a lavish, obviously prefab jungle village set that looks like the Ewok treehouse city in "Return of the Jedi." (The million-dollar grand prize is sitting over in one corner of the set - a pile of cash in an open treasure chest. Very Scrooge McDuck.)...Asinine stuff - and intensely addictive.     Yes, I'm hooked on this irresistible reality series... Survivor is a canny blend of MTV's "The Real World" and the Discovery Channel's "Eco Challenge," with a big dash of "Gilligan's Island" goofiness thrown in for good measure. [2 June 2000, p.E1]
