Un ottima serie ben narrata e con attori molto calati nella parte. Peccato per gli effetti speciali non al top ma per il resto è un ottimo incrocio tra i libri e i videogame. Assolutamente consigliata a chi piace il fantasy.

This is a superb series. Do not let critics who don't even like fantasy tell you otherwise. Game of Thrones comparisons should be kept to a minimum too.

Every single element is top-notch: with flawless cinematography and direction; excellent performances by the entire cast, but special mention to Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. The plot is perfectly crafted to create parallelisms between scenes in the past (most of Yennefer and Geralt scenes) and in the present (everything that happens with Princess Ciri). It may be a difficult to follow the story in chronological order, but it's totally worth it for the purpose of creating a more powerful message with each episode. Fighting scenes are spectacularly choreographed and shot. The special effects are very well done, especially the creatures.

The setting is absolutely fascinating. It's a very complex world with a lot of different factions and kingdoms struggling for power and dominance. The witchers like Geralt are pariahs, even though they risk their lives to fight all kinds of monsters. Witchers aren't heroes per se, as they ask for payment for their service. Sorcerers are another important faction in this world. They usually act as counselors to kings and queens, but they have ulterior motives. Elves appear not as the respected and powerful beings like in Lord of the Rings, but as a threat to Human dominance.

It's very difficult for me to come up with flaws. As you can tell, I adore this series. But it has to be said I'm a huge fan of the fantasy genre, so your mileage may vary if you're not. If you're not too fond of the fantasy elements, there's a lot to enjoy besides that, from political intrigues, to epic battles, to empowering female characters, to moments of romance or comedy, always handled with tact and taste.

Each episode plays perfectly, and holds the spirit of the books well.
Caville plays Geralt with perfection, embodying the feel and sound of the witcher, aswell as his inner emotions and drama.
The characters are well played, and well excecuted. The cast does a good job in their roles, so theres never a moment without suspense or thrill.

If you love the books or the videogames, this is a must watch!

If you know nothing of the witcher series, read the books first, it may help with the show.

The images of Triss and Yennifer are more authentic in the series than in games. People were greatly imbued with sympathy for the images of their favorite characters from the game and now reject everything that does not correspond to them. I gave a chance to the series and it did not disappoint me. Over time, I was imbued with sympathy for the characters in the series and no longer experienced discomfort. People who find fault with such things and various trifles seem to me biased and too conservative. Sometimes, it seems to me that they are trying to amuse their pride in this way, thereby showing that they read books compared to some. I am sincerely sorry for such people, because they are fixated on trifles and are unable to enjoy a good series. Watching the series, I did not feel discomfort about the races. The image of Kalante and Yennifer are quite feminist in the series and, in principle, this corresponds to their characteristics in the books. Ciri in the book was either lesbian or bi. The series is not one of those that you can run in the background and do household chores. You must be very careful not to miss important details. The plot is messy, but this is not a script problem. It is rather a problem of the source. The first season of the series is based on the first two books of Sapkowski, which were not novels, but cycles of stories and are chaotic in themselves. As for me, the creators of the series managed to streamline the Geralt storyline better than it was in the stories. This film adaptation has surpassed its literary source. The creators managed to do this with the help of their freedom in the plot. With all due respect to Sapkovsky, he was not a drama guru, and most people found out about his books thanks to the witcher’s game series, which continued the plot from the books. Almost all the creators' liberties in the plot added drama and were created in order to better adapt the plot to the cinema. Moreover, all ideas and meanings have been preserved. In the series, the internal conflicts of the characters are much better developed. The characters look more multifaceted than in the cycles of Sapkovsky's stories. The picture and dialogs are good, but not perfect. The creators have something to work on. Of the advantages I want to especially highlight the musical accompaniment in the series, added humor and fighting scenes. The series has great potential. (Sorry for my English) Expand

The Witcher does not pretend to be GoT. It is wonderfully convoluted in its own way. The pacing is good (I watched Scorsese's epic The Irishman in one sitting, so I don't have a problem with the show taking its time). It gets frenetic and takes its time as and when needed. Is it a perfect rendition of the beloved fantasy epic? Of course not, such a thing does not exist!(Except maybe The Witcher 3: the Wild Hunt) That being said it does the series justice with its tone and world-building. A few casting choices could have been better or maybe the actors could have done a better job. However, all the roles that matter from Geralt to Yennefer have all been depicted excellently. Each episode of the series is better than the last. If this trend continues, this show will be a classic indeed.
P.S. The Witcher is NOT GoT. Get over it and you might just enjoy the show.

Expand

It's very immersive despite the nonlinear storytelling, which is actually used quite well and isn’t a gimmick. I was able to connect the dots very easily between episodes that are set years apart. The visuals are good, especially the CGI monsters. I was also really worried that the soundtrack would disappoint me after having heard Witcher 3’s amazing soundtrack but thankfully, it did not. All in all, the show adapts the source material well enough but there are some issues. For example, some scenes and dialogue (in the earlier episodes) are completely unnecessary and to my knowledge, are not from the books but they do add to the character development and world-building. The casting is mostly good. Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, Queen Calanthe, and Jaskier (Dandelion) are standouts among the cast, especially Geralt. Henry Cavill does a great job as Geralt. However, they completely miscast Fringilla Vigo. The actress stands out like a sore thumb. She just doesn't fit in. She is a "diversity" cast and yes, the casting breaks canon if you know about her relationship to specific characters who have yet to appear in the show. It's honestly cringe-worthy but thankfully, she has very little screen time in the first season. Then there's Triss, who is a ginger with auburn (chestnut) hair but in the show, she looks like a peasant with dark brown hair. The actress herself is very beautiful but the showrunners put very little effort into making her look like Triss Merigold. As someone who got introduced to the Witcher universe through the games first and books second, it's hard to reconcile with the peasant-like Triss from the show. I sincerely hope that they dye her hair to make it more visibly auburn in season 2.

Look, it's a really good show. It’s only 8 episodes and doesn’t overstay its welcome. It left me wanting more. I honestly didn’t expect it to be good because the showrunner and her staff are prone to a certain kind of behavior on social media. I really wish Hollywood elites stop inflicting their will on the rest of the world. There are other diverse cultures outside the USA that don't need to be overridden by Hollywood's mandatory "diversification."

Successfully fit the acting of bard "Jaskier" , jokes and annoyed - amazing!
Yennefer z Vengerbergu - great actress and acting, drama, feelings - high level!
Battle scenes is like "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" - spectacular, bloody and cruel.
Nice picture and atmospheric music are doing this movie!
Excellent!, Well done!, Splendid!, Very well!, That's famous!

Who cares about the presence of diversity in this show? If the actor can deliver lines and personify the character effectively, does it matter if their skin color doesn't fit with Eastern European mythology? The mythology focuses (as it should) on the monsters from Eastern European mythology, not the race of people from there. It's a fantasy show; it doesn't even take place in Eastern Europe or in our universe for that matter. The race of the Witcher's actors should not influence review scores.

2. I think that this show is going to be very confusing for newcomers to the Witcher universe. Mousesack is basically there to inform the audience (quite often) about the Law of Surprise and destiny. I've read the books and played the games, so I know what is going on. I do think that the show's explanation of many aspects of the universe was rushed. Hopefully they build on the foundation in season 2 and allow a larger audience to buy into this show, because I think its really strong and has potential to get even better.

3. Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra, thank you. Geralt and Yen (sorry, Ciri, I know you're invaluable as well) are the center of this story, and you two nailed their individual personalities and their chemistry together. The flashbacks to the books and games that I had while watching this show were frequent because of your portrayal.

4. Rapid fire: action was fun, dialogue a mixed bag (main characters had better dialogue than supporting roles), and sets & costumes were up to par with other shows and movies of 2019. It was a fun ride to watch season one of this show, and I hope people give it a chance to grow into the powerhouse I think it can be. It's not quite there yet, but the future is bright for this show!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Finally a series that doesn't hold my hand like I'm a toddler. I made an account purely because I couldn't believe it was rated so poorly by "professional critics"...

The action is brutal and intense, the one liners from Geralt are hiliarious, and they explore important themes regarding the human condition and feminism (I'm a guy so easy there incels).

The cutting through time can be a bit disorienting at first but if you're more in it for the mystery (I never read the books) and you pay attention it truly is the best way to develop several characters very rapidly.

All that said. If you don't want to think and put things together then maybe just rewatch himym.

Pro tip - watch with subtitles on so you don't miss any important dialogue and turn up the brightness on your television a little.

Es una adaptación genial, se apega a la obra literaria, si bien es cierto que uno que ya leyó los libros entiende mucho mejor la serie, aún así por sí sola es buenísima. Sin duda dará una buena experiencia!

--All truths rhyme. Thus far I'm enjoying the series. The casting and portrayal of Geralt of Rivia is almost spot on in terms of looks, costume and demeanor as that seen in the video game series "The Witcher" of the same name. Is the series a perfect adaptation of the books? No! of course not, what is? The video games? Certainly not the games either. What the Netlfix series does well, and similarly the video games by CD-projekt Red, is capture the essence, humor and charm of Geralt and his way of navigating himself in a world full of heinous, selfish people and their political schemes or conspiracies all while he is protecting the weak and vulnerable. There are a few laughs and dark humor here and there. The action is quite satisfying when there is the opportunity to see, Geralt's sword play. That first fight seen towards the end of the first episode, top that!!. To be fair, the books consist mostly of dialogue and drama between characters. The Netflix series stays true to this. As well as not straying so far away from the books or game lore that us fans cannot recognize particular characters.

The casting / acting is well done. Of course, Cavil as Geralt is the best. The evolving character Yennifer continues to surprise. More on it later...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only saving grace is the choreography. Cast was horrendous aside from Henry Cavill, Triss Merrigold being the worst among them all, completely ruined my impression. The settings felt cheap, especially the forest and the dragon, what the heck was going on? even LOTR in the 2000s did much better. Then it's the horrible writing, the incoherence and chaos. Throw everything at your face at one time, boring monologue at the other. The whole sequence of events were presented in a way that nobody would understand without reading the books or play the games, lucky that I did both. The scenes just felt dumbed down from the book, the jinn scene, the dragon scene, everything felt cheap especially the lighting in Brokilon, omg what the fxxk was that?

While the lacking of brilliant writing and fancy visuals won't kill a show, the utterly disgusting casting choices, the lack of character development (especially compare to GOT) and terrible immature dialogues made it unwatchable.

I will admit to dreading the release of this series, having been a bit of a fan of the books and games.
The 1st episode felt a bit, 'B' Movie to me, but once it moved onto episode 2 and onward the series seems to have found it's footing and is more than a little enjoyable.
Most of the filming seems to be done in very limited locations, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of flow from one location to another, as if the episodes are just a series of set pieces.
That said, it does a decent job on the whole of conveying the story it's trying to tell.

-stupid story changes
-total kitsch scenes - Geralt kiss Yenefer during fight - Is the most embarrassing scene I've ever seen(Every B movie), or when Geralt meet Ciri or all Yenefer scenes
-stupid cast - too many color people(Fantasy based on medieval eastern Europe = must have color people), Dryad looks like amazons, black elfs, black knights...... -_-
-armor designer must be 8 years old child -Vilgefortz is total loaser
thank you mrs. Lauren Schmidt

Characters in books:
Fringilla Vigo (aka cousin of Anna Henrietta) - Fringilla is described as "ghastly pale" when confronted by Yen at Lodge meeting; this is due to Fringilla's embarrassment at her failure in obtaining the location of Vilgefortz's hideout from Geralt.
Eithné - The Silver-Eyed
Triss - Books describe her hair as chestnut(Auburn), which is a brown and red coloring. In The Lady of the Lake it's further noted as "ginger" and while this usually pertains to redheads, in some cases it also means a brown red color.
Artorius Vigo - White old Man
Vilgefortz of Roggeveen – the most powerful mage, kill Regis(Higher Vampire)

The books somewhat, the games a lot. Since I saw the first trailer for the show I feared they wanted it to become their own Game of Thrones. As Sapkowski is what he is, see the lawsuit against CD Project and his remarks about the games, I expected him to see the show as a cash grab, too. So I am not even surprised.

I liked some of the fighting scenes, the atmosphere was somewhat interesting and the show often shows a mature approach. Cool.
Then again there are scenes that feel just akward, narratives that have weird pacing, weird dialogue and even the high polished shots and forced camera angles can't make up for the....'meh-feeling' I get when watching this show.
Thr main character does a good job on portraying Geralt but that's it.

In the end, to me, this is the bad clone of game of thrones I feared it would be, with little added value, having read the books and played the games. The latter having a narrative and heart(!) that this show cannot compete with.

Geralt can cut down multiple people, as he fights them far more often than monsters, yet occasionally when the fight is over everyone is fine (just a scratch). * Duration: Eight episodes for a season is very little
* Confusing timeline: Temporary jumps can confuse distracted people
* Insuficient use of certain events: The battles and Fall of Cintra, could last three or four episodes more.
* Triss Merigold: The actress's appearance does not fit than the book.
* Chapter 6: The kiss between Gerald and Yennefer in battle is unnecessary and uncomfortable

2) Positive points:
* Developers care the details
* Appearance of the characters according to the books (most)
* They abord the background of the story, without going directly to the main books Impresive soundtrack
* Details in the start section: The change of the logo according to the chapter is impressive
* Premium cast
