This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disney Lucasfilm is misleading as ever since they bribed George Lucas. Lucasfilm Retcons the series, Kenobi already knew that Anakin and Vader are the same person and alive, a scene from episode 1 of Reva ruining that plot line, from ROTS proofs it. Padmé said "their still good in him" before episode 1 shows that this show is confusing, episode 4 Reva telling Leia that Obi-wan is dead when Leia doesn't know Ben's real name in a new hope. False advertising, lack of CGI, poor production, Obi-wan lightsaber not cutting up storm troopers its flying off the body like a banana, poor writing, boring characters, rushed the episodes, Bait and switch its all about Reva. Writer didn't do any research rather lazy. Disney Lucasfilm woke strikes again! Expand

The 'star' of the show - who isn't even Obi-Wan Kenobi, despite the show's miss-name even falsely claimed that she was the first person of color in Star Wars. Apparently people like Darth Vader, Lando Calrisian, and Finn are now white actors? The show has done nothing but show it's true colors from day one - that they mean to bludgeon a trash-tier 'inquisitor' wannabie into some kind of positive role. I'd expect this tripe from the CW, not Lucasfilm/Disney. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. More bald recycling of old SW plot tropes (ob1 rescues a kidnapped princess from the cruel fortress where she is being imprisoned and tortured... narrowly escaping Vader's grip only to mourn the sudden loss of a member of the rescue party and then to be secretly tracked?) and a general pantomime feel to the entire proceedings leaves me less than impressed. This Obi-Wan, like the star of last year's Boba Fett and Luke Skywalker in SW8, has had all of the blood and colour drained out of him. The continuity doesn't truly fit into the established story canon either, which is just lazy. My low rating would be closer to zero but for Ewan McGregor's performance which is great, and the show's production design which is - as expected - outstanding. Expand

Honestly, I had to create a meta account only because I feel like I must rate this series.

To myself: I‘m quite new in the Star Wars Universe. I started about 3 years ago, watched all movies several times, as well as Mando and Boba Fett and also Clone Wars. Just to clarify that I‘m not someone who saw the stuff as a kind an because of that thinks the stuff was better back then bacause as a child you don‘t pay much attention on stuff, which adults might find bad in a movie.

To the show: It‘s a dissapointment. On many levels: Scenes like the capture of Leia, or also the rescue of Obi Wan from Vader…. it‘s badly written as well as horribly choreographed. There is no love for detail at all. Many episodes feel like they were just a storyboard where certain things still have to be added in order to make sense. They have no idea where this story is going to, they come up with some checkpoints in the story and then they sketch the way between the checkpoints. You NEVER get that feeling when you watch for example episodes 4-6, or the Mandalorian.
Also the character of Reva is a disaster. They have no clue what they want from her, the want her just to be a worthy opponent, but they try her to be to mighty, they don‘t focus on her character development at all or anything like that.
It‘s sad because the character had a lot of potential.

Another thing that bothers me is the whole racism debate the show has inflamed again, especially because of Reva. Disney Star doesn‘t support diversity, it EXPLOITS it: They create new characters in order to get up with the diversity quota. Ok for me. BUT BE AWARE OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITY: When you don‘t take care of these chatacters, write bad stories which even destroy roles like Obi Wan or Luke Skywalker, of course angry fans will focus their frustration on the first thing they notice that has chanced and which „makes sense to them“.
Be it new roles, new actors/actresses or be it the new owner Disney.

In conclusion: Disney should be aware of its role it takes in the Star Wars and its Fandome. You cannot blame others for the mistakes you make. Even the unappropriate and racist comments againts the actors, they were triggered because Disney just don‘t care about what they are producing, as long as it will be produced.

This show has terrible writing and no respect for the characters. Not to mention a ton of issues:
-They bring down obi wan, so they can prop up other characters (Reva and Leia).
-Obi wan is shown as incompetent and has to take direction from a 10 year old who is shown as more competent then him.
-The episode 3 "fight" between obi wan and Vader is a joke. He runs away like a coward and has no skill whatsoever, even though he was shown in past episodes as competent enough to take down stormtroopers and gang members. (And this is the obi wan who was planning on training Luke in the future?. How does he plan on training Luke if hes so bad with the force?)

-Reva is such a badly written character. The show tries so hard to make Riva the antagonist at the expense of...wait for it...Vader. Again, they have to bring classic characters down in order to prop up another character that no one would even care about. The show treats Vader so poorly.
In the ep 3 "fight" with obi wan, how does a wall of fire stop Vader!? And as the droid carries Obi wan away, why doesn't Vader just use the force to pull obi wan back into the fire?

-The episode 4 interrogation scene with Leia is laughable and cringe.
-Don't get me started on the "Leila hiding under the coat" farce. I half expected Benny Hill music to play. How the hell could anyone not notice!? Such a ridiculous scene.

This show breaks canon, doesn't fundamentally understand and respect its characters, has so many plot holes and is just so frustrating to watch. It was marketed as a return of 2 classic characters, but then fools the audience by sideline/bringing down those characters to prop up others. Such a slap in the face to fans. Its such as shame as well that any genuine criticism is labelled as "toxic" by Disney instead of taking responsibility for the horrible writing and direction of the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show has all of the elements you hope to find in Star Wars-related content. Something that will keep you suspended on the edge of your seat but with enough nods to the stuff you love to make you smile. The Acting from the cast is perfect with Ewan McGregor leading the charge with another great performance that encapsulates a blend of Alec Guinness and The Prequels with new layers that makes the character feel relatable without losing its familiarity. Vivian Lyra Blair as a young Princess Leia encapsulates the very essence of the late Carrie Fisher from her priceless and sharp wit to her inspirational grace wrapped in a youthful innocence filled with hopefulness. On the antagonistic side, we get a very straight-laced militaristic performance from Moses Ingram as Reva a.k.a The Third Sister which (although people have often criticized this as "wooden") I think offers a lot of potential for development, especially into what is left of the series. As for Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. This alone is a perfect selling point. Although what we've seen by this point (episode 4) is very little. Hayden as Vader is a real scene-stealer whose performance carries a level of fear and suspense that makes Vader who he is.

The directing style and decisions made by Deborah Chow have been fun to watch, from the teaming up of Obi-Wan and Leia to the use of Reva as an aggressor and cunning opposition in this almost cat and mouse chase. Overall I can't wait for the remaining half of this series (and if the rumors are to be believed A prospected second series). Sure the show has its slight imperfections (especially probably due to Covid or the regular mixture of opinions found in making TV or Film.) however it's a perfect show to sit back and immerse yourself into.

Dialogue and performances are fine, but there's some poor writing and action sequences that aren't that great, and for a paranoid totalitarian regime the Empire seems to have unbelievably lax internal security at times. None of it's crucial to the plot but there are plenty of moments that will leave you scratching your head over what happened.
However, the basic idea of Obi Wan as a damaged and broken man dealing with the aftermath of Order 66 is a good one, as is an Inquisitor who's a dysfunctional and obsessive backstabber instead of a suave and controlled master villain. I'd put this in the same bucket as the prequel trilogy and TLJ, as something with good ideas but poor execution. Set design and visuals are gorgeous as always, and you can see that Disney's really getting confident with the visual language of Star Wars.

The actual 0-2 score negative reviews seem to mostly be the usual people crying salty manbaby tears either because (shock, horror) it has a black female antagonist and the Jedi lead character isn't a wish fulfilment power fantasy, or because Disney decanonized their beloved EU and hired professional scriptwriters instead of second rate hacks who churn out books on spec for adolescent boys. Cry more.

For all the knit picking by so called “fans”, I have found this series enjoyable.
Ewan McGregor has been as good as advertised. Moses Ingram has done a good job as the inquisitor, Reva. The return of Darth Vader, through the voice of James Earl Jones and body of Hayden Christensen, has given me goosebumps. Director Deborah Chow has found a different way to make a scary character, even more menacing. The real star of this show has been 10-year-old Vivian Lyra Blair. She steals every scene she’s in. I love how she delivers every line, like she’s been doing this for years. The shows have been surprisingly short and it seems like the producers are trying to fit in a lot of information. There have been some minor plot holes.

There are two episodes left and it makes me sad. It’s been a wild ride.

Remember the borg hipster scooter gang chase in Boba Fett? Now project it on a whole series. Thats Obi-Wan.
Atrocious, to put it mildly.
Most of the actors are completely talentless and make you cringe every moment of the show. Ewan McGregor looks like a superhuman, compared to them.
But also the directors and other crew seem to not know what they are doing at all.
The story has many gaping plotholes and doesnt fit in the established Star Wars universe at all. Its so obvious that you are only reminded of B-movies from the 50s that didnt bother with logic or continuity.
The casting is horrible and obviously a lot of wokeism and nepotism was involved in it.

The whole show feels very cheaply produced in general, so much that often you think its just a fan project. It often feels like a cheap scifi series from the 90s. Remember Lexx. Not anything like Star Wars.
Disney has obviously decided that quantity is better than quality.
The massive and very unusual amount of positive reviews here are very telling as well. I know nobody who likes it. Yet most "people" here voted 9 and 10? Yeah right.

Every episode contains numerous plot and character inconsistencies which are sometimes unintentionally comical, but more often frustrating. Characters seemingly teleport, inexplicably know things, and go through radical changes in temperament and competence in short spans of time. Moreover, a lot of the showtime feels like filler, which could have been used instead for setups and explanations to tackle these plot holes. Many people have complained about the acting, but it's hard to blame the actors given the material they had to work with. Overall, the pretty window-dressing of special effects and nostalgia was not enough to distract me from the cringeworthy writing. Expand

LEIA is supposed to be ten but acts like a 6 year old.
KENOBI is like Luke and they need Viagra to use the force, which is inconsistent with YODA not using the force then lifting an X-WING out of a swamp.
VADER is excellent but the fight between him and Kenobi is weak and pathetic. Also Vader let's fire stop him from exacting his revenge which is way out of character for him.

MFW big corporation resorts to botting the reviews on their failure of a show. Shove this show where sun dont shine, will you Disney?

Edit: One of the bots complains about how the Star Wars fans hate Star Wars more than anyone else. My brother in Christ, we hate what Disney did to it: Turned it into a milking cow with no risks, killing off anything original like the Legends, and building upon the safest and most risk-free grounds. And what comes as a result has nothing to do with the name Star Wars. Like Book of Boba Fett. Way to ruin a strong, silent, brutal bounty hunter and turn him into a clown pushover. Same thing here: retarded acting, plot holes and dumb writing. You are not getting a break, Disney, not on my watch

Worse than Jar Jar (ep. 1) and worse than the Last Jedi. This makes Lego Star Wars seem like Kubrick compared to what we are being given here. For a minute just look on IMDB at the whole team creating this...literal nobodies for a production that COULD and SHOULD have brought in the world's greatest director to tell a story that fans like myself have been waiting decades for. It should've easily been a multi-billion dollar box office hit with someone like Taika Waititi, James Gunn, James Mangold, Denis Villeneuve or JJ Abrams on board. Creative talent should mean something, but instead a bunch of corporate types like Kathleen Kennedy mailed it in and spent all their budget on fake reviews and blaming bad ones on "toxic fans'...lol. BTW....I'm not some Disney Star Wars hater. I LOVED Clone Wars....I LOVED Rebels....I LOVED The Force Awakens...I LOVED The Rise of Skywalker...I Loved The Mandalorian....and I really liked Boba Fett, The Bad Batch, Solo and Rogue One. The Last Jedi isn't a part of my DVD collection and either will Obi Wan...truly sad. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disney you ruined everything again. You spoil everything by touching the last 10 years - it's just a limitation. I've been waiting for Obi-Wan Kenobi for more moments of rumors about a serial series, hoping for an interesting plot, a story about a fan favorite character in the Star Wars universe.
What did Star Wars fans get in the end:
1. Agenda. This is perhaps the biggest reason why Disney is ruining all the franchises (Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney).
In Obi-Wan Kenobi, this manifested itself in the appointment of a woman to the post of showrunner of the series, who did not make a single big-budget film in her entire life, but only filmed serials for several episodes. Before joining the Disney series, she had no idea what Star Wars was, this is for sure a complete copy of Ryan Johnson, and she also likes to shove herself in the form of all sorts of cameos in her series. Most of the other executive producers are also women, who got into the world of Star Wars only after Disney bought LucasArts, and had nothing to do with fantastic universes.
Our esteemed screenwriter is of Iranian descent and is also on the agenda to discriminate against white men in the film and TV industry. A person who also has no merit, experience in fantasy films or big budget films (which is important), writes the script for our series. From here we have stupid dialogues that litter screen time, meaningless, inexplicable actions (Obi Wan running from Darth Vader - Tom and Jerry), interrogating a little girl with an addiction, and so on.
2. Plot holes. The incoherent plot of the film, which innapropriate into any star wars film (as well as the new mediocre horror trilogy with Rey and Kylo-ren, which created an unrealistic amount of discrepancies, here you can also add the Boba Fett series, in which Boba Fett from professional mercenary turned into a kind grandfather with a stick).
3. New characters and new actors - Disney loves it. Introduce a ton of new characters (mostly black by origin). An example is our villainess in the film, whose name no one remembers, and rightly so. She has no motivation, we do not know who she is, absolutely nothing is known about her, she falls like snow in July, no one was waiting for her, and no one needs her. If she is several ranks lower than the grand inquisitor, how does she manage to kill him, despite the fact that he, logically, should be very strong (Rebels). What kind of incomprehensible acting game, better black actresses have not been found?

That's not all, but I don't want to continue further, because the list will be too long, talking about the shortcomings of this series. This is not an Obi-Wan series, this is an Obi-Wan fanfiction and, unfortunately, with actors from the second golden trilogy.

Star Wars fans, be patient and may the strength be with us to endure the sordid rape of our beloved Star Wars universe.

Disney have really missed an opportunity to tell an interesting story that fans of the original and prequels trilogies can really connect with, especially a series based around a main character who was at the centre of some very complex galactic politics. There could have been much more interesting storytelling about the formation and coordination of the rebellion, which would have been complicated. Instead, we sacrifice 2 of the most important characters in the series to a kids show. I have nothing against Star Wars kids shows in general, but Disney need to actually use their creative brains and make their own stories set in the same universe, rather than exploiting and disposing of existing characters and narratives, preventing them from ever getting the mature, high-quality shows/movies they deserve. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… There was once a wise Jedi Knight named Obi-Wan Kenobi, who disappeared into the sands of time on the planet of Tatooine. The protagonist in this show is not that character, despite sharing the same name. This imposter lacks the cunning cleverness of his predecessor and, in that place, is complete hollowness, which has led to some of the most dumbfounding things I’ve seen any character commit in the Star Wars universe.
I mean this is Obi-Wan Kenobi… Everything you loved about the character has been sadly stripped away. He’s not even a shadow of his former self; he’s been remoulded to the point of becoming practically unrecognisable — if not for Ewan McGregor returning, you would not believe it was the same person as the one you saw in the prequel trilogy. Sure, there’s an excuse based on what the character has gone through over the years — he’s on a downer, but this is more like witnessing a bone-shattering nosedive into concrete; there’s no joy in such a spectacle. Three episodes in from the promising pilot, and I haven’t seen an ounce of character development.
Characters are only as brilliant as their writers, so I’m confidently certain Mensa won’t be sending the writers for this show invitations for their “smart” decisions anytime soon.

As for the show itself, I’m sorry to admit, most of all to myself as a massive Star Wars worshipper, that it is a complete and utter letdown. The storyline is uninspired, the actions scenes are underwhelming, the writing is baffling, the direction is unspectacular, the characters are all one-note, and that scene involving Obi-Wan and Vader reuniting produced the most generic dialogue imaginable, words you can hear in a thousand other movies and shows. That was shameful. I could go on and into more detail about the negatives, but what’s the point of it for a pointless show? Positives? Yeah, there is. James Earl Jones still sounds tremendous and menacing as Vader. It’s just too bad the dialogue he’s reading is as bland as a dead Jawa.

I would have been happy with anything 7/10 or better. Main issue is the direction. I’ve seen so-so stories well told; I’ll actually submit a contemporary hit as an example: Top Gun 2. But this is a weak story poorly told. It just falls flat. The details and character development are whisper thin. Character motivations turn on a dime and it often happens all over the course of one short scene. This isn’t network TV, they can make these episodes 50 minutes long with lots of details if they want, but they are more interested in rushing us from scene to scene. It’s a bad story … quickly told…. Like notes on a napkin. It feels like a first draft in need of polish to elevate the material into something artistic. I am completely unmoved by the story, which is the worst thing you can say about a story. I’m a life long Star Wars fan like many, and have put up with so many subpar entries by now that it’s never surprising to get a new one but it’s never not disappointing that the right people can’t get paired up with this material to give it the life it deserves. Watching this show makes me long for the rumored underworld series Lucas had commissioned scripts for before he sold Star Wars to Disney. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While it's too early to tell, I think this series is pretty fun so far!
I can certainly see why many other hardcore fans would be disappointed, and I fully respect their opinions, but personally, I can only agree with a few.

Obi-Wan (McGregor's) performance is always stunning, and seeing him broken after revenge of the sith feels appropiate, not character assasination like many claim. This "lowest point" in his character sets up his line in his fight with maul. "Look what I have risen above"

Child Leia, once again, is underestandable for people to dislike. But for me? I thought it was fun! Of course, I'm as fed up as anyone with every series needing to have the "little kiddie character!!!" but in this case I enjoy the premise. We always see Luke during this time period, never Leia, and as someone who was never too invested in her character during the OT movies, I think seeing this will help! The acting for her is mostly as good as can be expected of a child, although her actions and dialogue do feel a little corny at times, they need to keep it in check.
the Vader scene felt intense, and the action overall is really good! Unlike some ppl say, I like the music! Sure, there's some small nitpicks to have with the flow of the action but so far (episode 3) nothing too deal-breaking. The acting for the grand inquisitor and the other two alien inquisitors is great, better than rebels for sure, and I already liked the Grand Inquisitor from Rebels!

Now, the elephant in the room. Yeah, Reva is a boring and lame villain. I feel like there's more to her we don't know, and dependign on how it's handled it might make her more likeable, but right now she's not scary, not badass, not cool-looking, doesn't have any interesting demeanor, and is just overall absolutely lame as a villain. Reva should've been replaced by the grand inquisitor

3rd Episode Edit: It gets better, Leia is pretty fun and not as annoying as other child sidekicks, there's lots of exciting and tense moments where I was actually tense about the characters and caring about what would happen to them. Reva slowly gets better. While the direction / design for her isn't that good IMO, the acting is good and she slowly becomes less annoying. i still don't like her as a character overall, but she's not really ruining the show for me either as others claim

Obi Wan, who killed Darth Maul and crippled Vader, is basically a normal person from a decade of skipping Jedi Leg Day, despite presumably hoping to train Luke. Even though he previously crippled Darth Vader in the prequels, Darth Vader beats him like a child in this series. They face off, Kenobe 'nopes' and just runs away like a scared child. There are some giant holes in the plot as well, like when people are fleeing in a one way tunnel and the bad guy discovers the tunnel sometime later and somehow winds up on the other side of it to catch them as they exit. It's not bad as a star wars story, but as of 4 episodes it's weak as a Kenobe story and leaves Kenobe feeling like a secondary character. It's still entertaining though, which is why it's in the green, and its worth trying to see if you'll like it. This thing is in the red only in the sense of how high a bar it has to set. Expand

Obi Wan is back! No one hates Star Wars as much as Star Wars fans, but this is a joy to watch with the original actors in a whole new story

Not sure why this show is called Kenobi. If you don't want your memories of Star Wars to be tarnished any further, stay away from this boring thing.

The first 3 episodes are a complete rehash of the Last Jedi. Why is it that Disney doesn't show female characters with limbs chopped off, PTSD, or mentally/emotionally broken down? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Complete woke garbage. Disney just had to go out of their way and retcon everything George Lucas did. Complete disrespect to the continuity. This show is written by people who don't understand the lore. The show is not even about Obi Wan, it's not even about Luke, it's all about Leia and a villain that no one cares about about. Expand
