This doesn't even feel like Star Wars that we all grew up with. Disney has butchered the franchise to almost beyond recognition. Can't believe anyone who would give this a 10 has any kind of standards or knowledge when it comes to making a Star Wars spinoff, or shows in general. This is poorly made.

The only reason it deserves even a 4 and not a 1, is because it has Ewan and Hayden and Jimmy back from Episodes 1, 2 and 3, as well as James's voice as Vader.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main focus of the first season is the conflict between Anakin and Obi-Wan, and the final episode brings the whole first season to a brilliant conclusion. Everything else besides this conflict is just "background music". Some episodes may be silly, not logical, full of cringe moments - it does not matter. All that matters is the conflict, the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. And the way the last episode shows the final fight is heartbreaking. In this little scene we see the whole transformation of Anakin to Vader in all its tragic, in all its brutality. This outweighs all the other shortcomings of this season.

Besides that I want to address other topics:

1. Obi-Wan found his old strength and overcame his weakness. He now is even stronger than ever, because he could defeat Vader so very clearly and fundamentally - Vader had no chance and Obi-Wan could have killed him; but he is a Jedi and he walked away, nothing wrong with that. In other words: An older white man found his strength, overcame his weakness and is walking firmly in his future. There is nothing "woke" about this at all!

2. There is a scene, where Reva sees the unconscious Luke - and then sees herself in him. The picture of a white boy changes to the picture of a girl of color. This is also a strong symbol, this is also not "woke", on the contrary: it is inclusive in the best way! And then we see Leia, how she prepares a costume that resembles Obi-Wans costume very strongly. This is also a very nice scene and there is nothing wrong with it: Of course Leia can be another protagonist, why not? We have so much Luke Skywalker in the old movies. And it is also not "woke" that an older white man can be an inspiration for a young girl.

3.And then there is this scene with Vader and Palpatine, where Palpatine urges Vader to overcome his past. This is also a very powerful scene: We see the completion of the transformation from Anakin to Vader - and we see once again that Emperor Palpatine is truly the greatest movie-gaslighter of all times.

4. And finally "Hello there"...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly this show made me so angry, I wanted to give it a 0, but objectively, if someone isnt a star Wars fan, I think a 3 is right. So what you get here is another broken Jedi (remember Luke in sequels) that somehow forgot all his training and lost all his skills and became a coward. Suddenly the show revolves around little Leia, who is pictured as wonder child, speaking like an adult and escaping bonty hunters on her 10 years old legs.Obi wan forgot how to use a lightsaber, and ofc a woman saves him. So if you are a Star Wars fan , i could go on but in a nutshell its a destruction of acharacter, again, which made my blood boil. If you arent a Star wars fan, its still a really badly written show with plenty of plot holes and parts that look like a farce. On the good side a few scenes are good, and generally imho the production value is high.Im sad that Ewan took part in this, he is sucha good actor and likable person. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show is just absolutely dreadful. There’s no real sense of direction or substance behind any of it, it just feels like such a blatant cash grab and a major slap in the face to the fans who were actually anticipating this show. The cinematography, fight choreography and lack of actual Star Wars music really bogs it down to the point where it doesn’t even feel like nor resembles Star Wars. Expand

I mean what the f was that lightsaber 'fight' in ep 3?
A Vader just stop because of a few flames?

And what's up with Obi-wan so broken? The show really could have been called Princess Leia.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't see how the scores on Metacritic are averaging a 7 and up. The only episode that holds any meat up till now is episode 5. The rest has been boring and poorly directed. With terrible logistical decisions that will scratch anyones head. Like Leia outrunning 3 smugglers on snail pace (One smuggler is actually stopped because of a branch in her path). Or Obi Wan being able to escape because of a small fire that you could easily walk around. It tells me a lot about Disney. How out of touch they are they did not go big budget on this one. The only reason I can imagine as to why they made this a series instead of a movie is to have people be subscribed for at least 2 months to Disney+. They could've done so much more with this it's truly saddening. The empire is ruling. Obi wan is on the run. A fugitive. Could get caught at any moment. At no point in the series do you really sense any dread from Obi wan. There is no character study that goes deep into who obi wan is in this new day and age. He's not really a Jedi anymore. He should suffer from things like anxiety. Things probably new to him. The series never challenges itself. I'd imagine someone that lost everything would be remembering how things used to be. Or reminisce about the good old days. Like the old man he now is. None of that. Well a tiny bit. But it never feels authentic. Instead they shoehorn in an inquisitor with her own agenda. Which in itself could potentially be an interesting ark and worth a series on it's own. But the way the inquisitors are presented here, it's not very menacing. People should be terrified. They never feel dangerous. That and the catch me if you can theme with Leia... It all detracts from Obi Wan. There's a lot more things that feel off. Like no de-aging on Anakin while he is portrayed as a Padawan. Unbelievable escapes or confrontations with Storm Troopers. That actually look at obi wan and Leia and just ask some simple questions. How is the entire empire not up to date on a fugitive old man with a young girl? I hope for everyone including myself that the final episode will make it all worth it. But it will never get rid of the bad taste that the first few episodes have left. Expand

I wonder where Disney is laundering all the money they supposedly put into this show.

To all the reviews who give it an 8+ (or even a 10!!! What!?) … do you realize how ridiculous it is that you have to assert your post as not being from a bot? In the same breath that you are acknowledging the flaws of the show - lazy writing, incomprehensible logic, stupid characterizations - you then literally turn around and say, Oh well, it’s entertaining enough, who cares, I give it an 8. Do you even care? Do you recognize how hopeless and cynical this makes you?

Disney, you have an infinite amount of money and create something that has lower quality than fan movies on YouTube. This has literally the "I did not hit her, I did not, oh, hi Mark" kind of vibes. It actually looks as if it was written and made on purpose to be bad. Just sad. Such a waste of the Obi-Wan Kenobi character... Also, it's interesting, that metacritic blocked reviews for each episode, after episode 2. I was wondering why that happened. After reading other reviews it's clear that the general overview reviews are ~80% inflated with fake positive reviews (positive review bombing), whereas you can see that true fans often critique each episode and specify point by point what was terrible in each episode. Did Disney really think we are stupid?

The Series is full of stupid ideas, first that obi-wan is a compleet loser. He is a space monk, based on buddist monks and knights/paladins of fantasy genre. Why disney want every jedi to break to looser. They are monks, they are indoctrinated and even if they do not want to fight, they do not stop in there believe or training routine. Then the black woman controversy, that is make up by disney! Did disney really think they have a problem with a black woman in a show? No! They have problems with a character that gets more focus in her story, as the main protagonist. She is smarter is the hero, she is stronger as the hero, what make her the HERO. But that show is namend "Obi-wan Kenobi" not the "new character introduction Show".

Then all the stupid things, like the tollstation with the laser fance, laughtable because the writer is so stupid to add such a scene. Then the base infiltration, stolen out of a video game, the underwatertunnel is the same, stolen out of a video game. The exit from the base, a military base, everybody act like they never have ever heared of military routines. Like when the base alarm go on, everybody go on battle stations and the tie fighter start to patrole. No, they wander arround like chickens. But the worst of this series is, that they ruin not only obi-wan, they ruin darth vader to. Both act not like they would act after all the movies, series and book, and i don't even take on the "legend" material. Who they get mostly the best jedi ever trained "obi wan" and make him a looser, than he make his padawan who is now "darth vader" to an reatard. He is in a fire proven body armor and stops on the fire, he do not sent a squard of tiefighters and bombers to a base blockade... he even stops to kill his underling. He is not a guy who stops, he is full of anger, he can't really control if he is in rage and he will destroy everything in his path. he is a juggernaunt... he don't stop! But no disney make him a retard who gets braindeath... when something is not as he plan. Oh you have a tracker... braindeath, restart, let the woman go and say "good". Sorry disney, you don't understand starwars. Its a simple hero story, where the hero is the hero and the bad guy the bad guys. They make a smart and simple hero tale, to a mess like "lost", with stupid ideas.

It's fun, melodramatic and it's great to see Vader doing his thing. Yes, there are some serious logical issues, head scratching moments, etc, but it's still fun. For the record, I do feel that this is technically rather weak at times. The score is usually awful, the effects sometimes feel cheap and low budget, and it fails to achieve cinematic grandeur. Almost feels like an ambitious, well done fan film. It should be more than this IMO. Still, I love the drama and overall story. It's dark and intense. Cutsey, precocious Leia character is a bit much at times. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is not Star Wars. The script is terrible because of how boring it is. The characters are wooden, the actors don't even try to play them. Most of the characters are just annoying (little Leia and Reva). You can accuse the community of racism as much as you want, but the actress playing Reva plays her role just awful. This is not a villain, but a school bully. That's just funny. There is no scale, no atmosphere, nothing. This is not Star Wars, this is **** Expand

I mind the god-awful single dimensional pointless characters and silly directing, idiotic shots and useless plotlines. It's still Star Wars so the action is pretty good, the acting is decent (except for the main antagonist) but the plot/writing just make it hard to watch and not groan. I'm still going to finish the series, but I'll be sheading tears into my popcorn the whole time.

I mean this 100% sincerely: I would rather watch the hypothetical Rian Johnson trilogy.

At least it wouldn't be another lame "prequel." At least he could emasculate his *own* characters instead of every old hero. At least it would be visually novel. At least it would only break general Star Wars world building/canon instead of ruining the old characters in detail. At least it wouldn't be another bait-n-switch where the hero is shown up by our ever-so-wonderful Mary Sue du'jour.

Also the writing would be better. It would be BAD 'cause Rian can't write well, but he's at least better than a D+ writer. With the exception of Wandavision's first half, these are some SERIOUS scrubs writing for D+. No talent, no work ethic. Most of them *don't even thoroughly watch the source material* before they begin "subverting" it & pushing THE MESSIGE.

Hacks. Arrogant hacks. Shame, 'cause this was an easy win. Instead we have juvenile narrative, weak dialogue, & characters molded to fit the narrative instead of the converse. Pathetic.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 4 episodes in, I'll update this review at the end. A good start but now this series seems to be meandering a lot. No Luke, it's all about Leia. Hayden Christensen has put in a brief appearance but nowhere near as much Anakin/Obi-wan interplay as I was expecting. Instead we get too much of the character Reva, who is boring and is always angry and shouting a lot. Indira Varma is excellent as the empire turncoat. Effects are surprisingly ropey and there have been a few cringe/lol moments (the infamous trenchcoat scene and the snowspeeders). Overall I'm becoming disappointed with this effort. It should have been amazing as we are all invested in the Obi_Wan/Darth Vader dynamic. As I write this it only has two episodes to pull it out of the bag. Is this turning into yet another Disney disappointment? Of the Disney efforts, I liked Rogue One, and Force awakens wasn't bad. Mandalorian had some great episodes. But everything else has been pretty terrible. If anything, it's making me appreciate the prequels even more. Although the dialogue was cringe they knew how to tell a story and they expanded the Star Wars universe. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show has so many problems and not watchable at all. Where to begin?:

-Leia "running" away from the kidnappers in the forest?! Like how does a 10 year old run away from grown adults who "run" so slow and run into branches on purpose?! Really??
-Joke of a fight between Vader and obi wan. Obi wan is a coward who runs away with no skill whatsoever. What happened to him? How does he expect to train Luke and protect Luke in the future if hes such a bad fighter now?!
-Fire wall not stopping Vader, Vader not using the force to pull obi wan back into fire. Vader basically just letting them go.
-Obi wan and Leia trying to disable the laser gate when they could have obviously just walked around the gate!
-Tala slapping the storm trooper on the helmet and brings him down with a slap. really?
-Tala and the muffled choking of the troopers behind the machines. How can anyone not hear this!? so unbelievable.
-Obi Wan swimming in the ocean and coming out into the base, clothes dry, not wet at all, not dripping any water. Where did all the water go??! His clothes should be soaking wet! Also when obi wan escapes the hallway with flooded water and the door closes, no water comes out at all on the other side of door. Perfect timing from Tala! Congratulations! or maybe Obi Wan has magic clothes that repel water! Who knows with this show!?
-Obi wan hiding in a straight corridor from troopers who did not see him duck behind the wall. How the hell did the troopers not see him?!
-Obi wan hiding Leia in a trench coat! Who thought this was a good idea?! Practically and Visually ridiculous!
-Reva outsmarting Darth Vader while under a force choke. How did Reva know Leia would escape that she had the foresight to put a tracker on her droid? Darth should have killed Reva then and there, but no, she outsmarts him and lives.
-The Reva lightsaber deflections with the snow-speeder in the hanger. It was so awkwardly filmed and angled.
-The snow-speeder pilot dies and there's this long montage of sad faces. I'm sorry, are we supposed to feel sad for a character we just met briefly at the start of the show and know nothing about? The show is so badly directed and written with no attention to detail at all. It feels like just one scene moving onto the next scene with hardly any connection at all. Just set piece moving onto next set piece. This Leia kidnapping should have been over by episode 3. But this keeps dragging on with only 2 episodes left.
What role does Hayden have left? We barely saw him. Fans expected some dialogue and interaction, maybe a flashback with Hayden and Ewan. All we got was Hayden staring far away at Ewan. No interaction at all between the two actors. Hayden better have something to do in the last 2 episodes of the show.

This show was marketed with Hayden and Ewan heavily by Disney before the premiere, with some Reva and no mention at all of Leia. It was a bait and switch. This show is titled "Obi Wan", yet he's a side character. Reva should be a supporting character at best. I am so done with this show.

Another "hero is broken but get saved by younger female character", except it's the ultimate face-palming pair-up on Kenobi and 8-yr old Leia. Kenobi in original Star Wars was like the ultimate sensei. Kenobi in his own series is a veritable joke. Horrible fight scene with Vader. Token characters to tick check boxes that don't do anything for the storyline. Don't bother with this show. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to like this show, but I can't. It is glorified fan fiction. There is no respect for canon, or continuity. No respect for the characters, and events. The writer is just doing what ever he wants, and whatever he thinks is "Cool" even if it makes no sense. For instance, **SPOILERS BELOW**

>Obi-wan not knowing Vader is alive? Vader is famous, he has been active for 10 years as the enforcer for the emperor. Obi-wan knows Vader is Anakin, yet was shocked at finding this out. >Reva knows Anakin is Vader, even though this is a guarded secret, and she would be executed for this.
>The villains are where ever they need to be, even if that means that space and distance no longer works.
>Obi-wan can't really use the force, or fight with a lightsaber. The excuse is that he is sad and rusty, but given that his life's purpose is to protect and train Luke, and commune with Qui-gon, he would stay in fighting condition. He didn't even use a lightsaber stance in his first fight with Vader. I recognize the stances. Vader entered Makashi, And obi-wan didn't even enter Soresu.
>Episode 4, Leia is captured (cause teleporting Reva) and taken to secret Inquisitorious base, but somehow the good guys know where the base is, and just waltz in? The space is a secret from even the majority of the Empire. >Lots of contrived plot points, like Reva going to Kill Leia because she is convinced Leia (who Reva had kidnapped because reasons she shouldn't know) knows about the jedi smuggling paths? But at the same time puts a tracker in Leia's droid because is knows she is going to be rescued? I'm sorry?
>The vader and Obi-wan fight was just stupid. Vader can't walk through fire, or put it out, or walk around it? He can't use the force to pull an unconscious obi-wan? They shouldn't even be meeting or fighting.
>Oh, yeah. They kill the Grand inquisitor. The character that is still alive in Rebels 4-5 years later. He is also ridiculously incompetent, and used a prop to hold up Reva. I am waiting for the end credit scene on episode 6 where he isn't dead, cause they have to retcon it. I could go on... This story is a poorly made shirt. I pull on a loose thread and everything starts to unravel. It is fanfiction. High budget what if story. And I've read better writer stories on Wattpad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Awful script and directing. Tons of plot holes and not sticking to canon. Recycled plots. Way to go Kennedy, you ruined one of my favorite characters. That long awaiting rematch? Laughable at how bad it was. Reva's character is weak, and Leia is beyond annoying. By far the worst of the Star Wars TV series. Listen to the fans, stick to the lore, and cast the proper people for the roles based on talent, not equity. Stop trying to "re-write" to fit into what Hollywood thinks we want to see. Expand

Terrible acting and casting like REEEva and little Leia who's basically a smartass millenial in the body of a toddler and of course laughable
Complete disaster, why or did a nobody like Deborah Chow got this show is beyond explanation....
Terrible acting and casting like REEEva and little Leia who's basically a smartass millenial in the body of a toddler and of course laughable foot chase scenes of this "toddler" out "running" adults.....very little action so far. Will update once we get Vader
EDIT
DOWNGRADE TO 1 FROM 2, only 2 episodes left and it can't possibly get worse.
PS love the fake positive review bombing, guess no one will mention that in the MSM

Pathetic attempt to artificially inflate ratings here on metacritic. Desperate to fabricate artificial interest in a show that most people with an average IQ hate. This show is political propaganda with a woke agenda. Kathleen Kennedy is a sad human being along with the rest of the activist employees at Disney who successfully destroyed a beloved franchise to a level that us fans didn`t anticipate, especially after The Last Jedi. They are deliberately emasculating strong male figures making them cowardly shadows of what they used to be before Kathleen Kennedy got her disgusting hands on them. Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Han Solo, and now beloved Obi Wan Kenobi. NPC/zombie like consumers who claim themselves as fans will always come out of the wood work to defend this abomination but us true fans recognise what the franchise is. Expand

star wars deserves a better show. The action is so poorly choreographed and edited that the show feels like a cheap 90's production. yes ok, episode 3 was ok, but let's be honest if you delete Darth Vader from the series, what's left? And the series should also feel more mature, I understand that you also want to appeal to younger viewers, but hey you have that with episode 4 to 6 or Rouge one too.
In any case, I'm very disappointed, the series doesn't have the claim I make of Star Wars

There are Disney bots inflating the ratings. There are a bunch of 10s all in a row, suddenly around June 5. Very suspicious! I'm adding my rating to bring the show down to what it should be.
Plot holes and weak direction and no respect for

Plot holes and weak direction and no respect for Obi Wan. The writers and directors do not understand star wars and its universe.

Its a great series. It starts off a bit slow, but understanding that this is a very dark and defeated time for OWK, seeing him start to spool up is great.
