Captain Blood is a reminder of a lost era of gaming, one that is sure to make you feel nostalgic and may even win you over with its unique world and characters. However, nostalgia alone does not make a game great, and the game feels dated even for the era it meant to release in. Some may enjoy this title, but for others, it’s going to be a hard pass.- Try Hard Guides

Blacksmith Master is an interesting tycoon game with cool theming that is sure to keep you interested for at least a few hours in its current Early Access state. However, before the game launches, it could seriously use some tweaks to its endgame and economy, and perhaps add a little more personalization or story to the game as well. At some point, the act of running a purely profitable business becomes kind of mind-numbing with nothing introduced to shake things up. [Early Access Review]- Try Hard Guides

As far as monster collection games go, Creature Keeper is certainly an interesting one that does things differently than other titles in the genre. A lot of work needs to be done on RailGods of Hysterra. I am not surprised in the least to see that my copy of the game, a build released for critics before the game has even entered its public testing phase officially, had its problems. The game has some good ideas, so I hope not only that the bugs are quickly sorted, but that the game is expanded upon with more content and some tweaks to the gameplay that make it a bit more exciting. I want to see this title succeed because its foundation is strong, even if its current state is rough. That being said, I am sure RailGods of Hysterra will be a far greater game when it finishes its early access cycle and realizes its full potential. [Early Access Review]- Try Hard Guides

Deck of Haunts has a solid foundation, but I feel as though it fails to fully deliver on its own promises. Whether you’re chasing leaderboard scores, working through the campaign, or just squeezing in a short session during a break, Drop Duchy is right for you. There’s a quiet brilliance to the way it unites so many simple on the surface yet subtly complicated gameplay systems without letting any of them spiral out of control. If I could think of one thing to add to Wizdom Academy, on top of all of these fixes and tweaks, it would be more from the building system. While I like it currently, the ability to build curved walls, bridges, and buildings hugging edges would be a phenomenally witchy addition to a game all about going to school for magic. Surprisingly, I didn’t encounter any bugs—aside from the roaches used as currency at vending machines—despite White Knuckle still being in Early Access. If I were to offer a suggestion, I’d say to include some on-screen tutorials at the start of a new climb. Not everyone plays the main tutorial, but it contains important mechanics that, if missed, make the game much harder. For example, just knowing you have an inventory to store items was a huge game-changer. In one run, I got stuck holding a can because I didn’t know I had to put it back into my backpack after eating. Stygian: Outer Gods is in a decent place for an Early Access title. While I’d like to see some minor improvements to storytelling and character animation, these are relatively small issues that don’t seriously impact the experience. The far more serious problem is the severe optimization and frame rate drops in outdoor areas—locations where players will spend a significant amount of time. These issues absolutely need to be fixed before launch. [Early Access Review]- Try Hard Guides

As far as non-bug-related changes, I would like to see the ability to skip the game’s tutorial added at some point. Also, I feel like the game’s judgment on which movie genres match and which don’t could be improved. For example, who doesn’t like a western horror film, featuring an incredible monster? According to Hollywood Animal, these genres clash, leading to a script that simply doesn’t work. [Early Access Review]- Try Hard Guides

If I had any real criticism about the game, subjective though it may be, it would simply be that I wish everything was a bit more stylized. Where there are interesting settings and cool-looking monsters, generally everything seems to fall under the umbrella of generic dark fantasy, aka Diablo or Path of Exile. There’s a lot the game could have done to further stand out visually, and while the gameplay is arguably the most important aspect of a game, I think a better focus on style and worldbuilding could have made this title stand out from the rest. It’s clear that the developers took inspiration from the mysticism in the real-life disaster zone, as well as games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. that also explore this area. However, if you ask me, it feels as though a lot of their writing and world-building expanded beyond the scope of their original interest, becoming a bit too bloated in scale. It simply felt to me at several points that a character with the powers that he had, working for the people he works for, shouldn’t have been stranded as he was in an area you can drive through in half an hour. The game, at least as it was presented in the demo, would have been a lot more engaging story-wise with a protagonist who was a little closer to the ground, especially one without the ability to “walk between worlds.” [Early Access Review]- Try Hard Guides

While the game excels in gameplay with its resource management, building mechanics, and satisfying sound effects that make abilities feel impactful, the visual presentation falls short. Character models and animations feel stiff and uninspired, with a lack of dynamic movement or style that detracts from the overall experience. The maps and enemies are slightly more engaging, but the design is still fairly generic. Additionally, the game’s difficulty curve needs tweaking, as early levels are too easy and lack a sense of accomplishment. Age of Darkness: Final Stand is an instant favorite of mine, cleverly improving and expanding upon tried-and-true RTS mechanics, adding co-op multiplayer, and delivering it all in an awesome dark fantasy RPG package. Grab a friend and face the darkness in what could very well be the best RTS game on the market. [Early Access Score = 100]- Try Hard Guides

The game’s pacing can feel slow and clunky. Growing your city takes a long time, and camera movement is sluggish. Overall, the game feels awkward and poorly optimized. It seems as though Builders of Egypt skipped an early access or testing phase. That said, the price is reasonable—at $20, it offers an average city-building experience with a unique Egyptian theme. While it may not be groundbreaking, it’s worth checking out if the setting appeals to you.- Try Hard Guides

Warden’s Will has some great ideas and serves as a fun roguelike you can play solo or with friends. However, a lack of depth and variety makes its longevity questionable, and players might find themselves burnt out after a few hours.- Try Hard Guides

Project Tower stands out in some places, namely with its gorgeous level design and bullet-hell boss fights, but leaves something to be desired with its core mechanic, which feels underutilized and unnecessarily restrictive. The game is worth checking out if you’re interested, but the short experience may feel a bit railroaded.- Try Hard Guides

While I’ll leave the NFT aspect for consumers to judge, I will say that Fusionist is engaging and worth trying if you’re interested in a free-to-play game. However, the restrictions in the Early Access playtest might make it better to wait until the full launch before giving it a shot. [Early Access Review]- Try Hard Guides

Even in its current Early Access state, Voin already offers plenty to enjoy. While I felt I mastered the combat and crafted a strong build within the first two hours, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The developer’s roadmap promises to expand on the already enjoyable experience, adding much more before the game’s full release. That being said, potential buyers should keep in mind that Voin currently lacks content and contains bugs typical of any early-access title. [Early Access Review]- Try Hard Guides

Planet Miners could have been unique and fun. By ignoring the RPG and building mechanics of Starbound, it could have doubled down on mining. Instead, it feels like a tech demo—a shallow game that, frankly, I don’t recommend. I’d like to see it pulled from Steam and given more development time.- Try Hard Guides

New Arc Line offers a fresh RPG experience, blending high magic and steampunk. While still in Early Access, its unique setting, expansive landscapes, and innovative d100 system show promise, especially for RPG fans seeking personalized experiences. However, localization issues and stiff animations detract from the immersion, making the game feel unfinished. Despite these drawbacks, New Arc Line has the potential to become a standout. My only real issue is with the underwhelming flight mechanics. Despite being set in space, movement is surprisingly slow, and maneuverability doesn’t reflect the freedom of zero gravity. While you can move in all six directions, the controls aren’t as fluid or immersive as in other space combat games. I understand this might be due to technical limitations, but it’s a major flaw that took me out of the experience, especially considering how much I enjoyed everything else.- Try Hard Guides

Despite these shortcomings, Menace from the Deep remains enjoyable for fans of the genre (I’m tentatively calling it “Spire-like”). It’s still fun for those seeking a roguelike with a twist. With some mechanical tweaks, it could become a standout, but currently, it feels like an unrealized opportunity.- Try Hard Guides
