If you’re not a member of the Communist Party and you do not feel nostalgic whenever someone mentions USSR, the journey to Matryoshka will bring you 10-12 hours of fun. Although it’s a bit disappointing that the writers missed an opportunity to turn this light comedy into a satirical study of a person’s fate in a totalitarian state where cult of personality reigns over all.

Ghostrunner, with all its pretty neon lights, persistent rain and moody darksynth music, looks deceptively simple, but those expecting an easy adventure, will tap out after a couple of levels. But if you like to plan your moves one step ahead and are willing to git good, you will spend hours beating your own records.

Suzerain has problems with how it presents information as well as some logical holes, yet its non-linear narrative, moody atmosphere, the tingling feeling that everything will end badly, awesome soundtrack, and a well-developed world are all valid reasons to veto any criticisms and return to Sordland for more socio political experiments.

Even though Shadows of Valentia lacks some of the cool ideas from the previous installments in the Fire Emblem series, this tactics game is very addictive. It’s head and shoulders above the dull Fire Emblem: Fates.

The iOS version of The Lords of Midnight is a good remake. It treats the original game with love and respect, although you have to be a big retro fan in order to fully enjoy it.

Another episode comes and goes, but the stale formula remains the same. It is ‘survivors of a global catastrophe fight amongst themselves’ multiplied by ‘get your hands off the mouse, we’ll play the game for you’.

Defense Grid 2 feels like a very conservative remake featuring new maps. No bold design ideas here – everything is almost verbatim like in Defense Grid: The Awakening which was released 6 years ago, only the gameplay is a bit simplified.

Just like Victoria 2: A House Divided, Heart of Darkness is a well-done expansion pack. Its improvements are focused on some very specific gameplay aspects, but they’re really deep.

Accompanied by an 80s horror movie soundtrack, death screams and sounds of gunshots, a merciless zombie horde shambles through the darkened streets, ready to win over your hearts.

A charming, original platformer with beautiful visuals and easy puzzles. You'll probably never play it again after finishing the first and only walkthrough in 4-5 hours, but you'll definitely enjoy this intense adventure.

FF15 looks like a huge patchwork quilt made out of dozens shoddily sewn little pieces. Sometimes you can't help but marvel at the incredible attention to detail, some ideas (like photos, for example) are a stroke of genius, but then it comes to the crux of the matter… and the hair stands up on the back of your neck.

Just like Halo 2, the last Alone in the Dark and Hotline Miami, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is not worthy of its heavenly soundtrack.

Should you read lengthy Internet discussions on what is missing now in Beyond Earth, you may think that the game is simply guilty of being not enough like Alpha Centauri, when, in fact, the problem lies elsewhere. Beyond Earth is worse than its 15-year-old predecessor in all regards, and it has nothing to make up for it. Firaxis made a decent, but shallow game that gets old after 2-3 playthroughs, which is not a good sign in a 4X genre.

Despite a ton of cliches, the story, the characters and the world of Tales of Vesperia have stood the test of time. The narrative is single, but well-structured and at times riveting, which means a lot in a JRPG.

Age of Empires 4 is based on a solid foundation created way back during the last millennium, but it suffers from a plethora of annoying little flaws and drawbacks. Some of them will be fixed with patches and maybe future DLCs, if we’re lucky, but even then, it’s a far cry from the stellar Age of Empires 2.

While the core gameplay is still fun, Battlefield 5 is the most unstable and bug-ridden installment in the series since Battlefield 2. Even if the developers manage to patch the most glaring holes by the end of this year, there is no guarantee that they won’t abandon the game in a few months depending on sales and revenue from microtransactions. I would wait six months to see if anything changes for the better before buying.

At times, The World Before failed to impress some of its important plots upon me. The narrative is so rife with small inconsistencies that you can't help but notice them, and character models look so poor against those luscious backgrounds. But the more you get engaged with this seemingly simple story, the more you want to find out how it ends.

Die-hard fans of South Park will get their bang for the buck in The Fractured But Whole, with familiar characters and sometimes funny jokes. But, compared to The Stick of Truth, this game is a definite step back.

High Voltage Software produced a solid PC port, with a 60 fps frame rate, better visuals and excellent keyboard support. I wish they did not unlock all the characters, outfits and fatalities right off the bat, though.
