The game lacks in variety and is not necessarily a great title for long-running sessions, but its blunt humour, splatter-action and b-movie-charm make Zombie Army 4: Dead War a fun ride for any fan of a “good” zombie movie.- PC Games

Although the game is still fun, the updates in the remaster, when compared to the original, are just not enough. This is especially evident when looking at the controls, which have only been marginally optimized. It is also quite hard to keep an overview when there’s a lot going on and the original’s multiplayer mode is missing. If the developers are willing to upgrade the game via patches, we might be willing to give it a second chance.- PC Games

Yes, the original Warcraft 3 is still a great game, but it is also clear that Blizzard has missed the mark with this remaster. The singleplayer campaign and gameplay mechanics have aged astoundingly well and the visual update is mostly successful. Newcomers will most likely have a great time experiencing the story and its four distinct races, which are still a lot of fun to play. But where are the vastly improved cutscenes that Blizzard has promised? This is simply not the game that has been advertised. Multiplayer comes with its own problems, from missing features (like a ladder or custom campaigns) to small, but irritating technical issues. Most of it can be fixed, for sure, but it appears rather baffling to me that this is a game from the same studio that brought us masterpieces like Starcraft 2.- PC Games

The idea to feel like a child wo wants to drive a tractor is charming, the execution in this game isn’t. There’s far too little content, even for a game still in early access. There are so many things just not working right in Lumberjack Simulator, like the chainsaw, the prices in the ingame shop, which are way too high, and the pointless driving.- PC Games

As a huge fan of the previous games, the tabletop and above all the books, I couldn't wait to finally get back into the virtual cockpit of a battle mech to scrap other combat robots. In many ways, the new Mechwarrior is a dream that has come true. After the first euphoria about the many 'Mechs, the cool missions and the nice look compared to the ancient predecessor has abated, it is noticeable that the MW5 gameplay has a few weak points that it is not easy to overlook.- PC Games

Since the first "official" announcement at Gamescom 2016 I was curious about Lost Ember. The premise with the animals and the fallen civilization as well as the appealing look quickly made sure that I was excited about the title. In the end Lost Ember is a lot of what I had hoped for. Calm, emotional, visually stunning and ... simply beautiful! It's a lot of fun to glide over the wonderful landscapes and put the game world and its secrets to the acid test. The only pity is that it really doesn't have much to offer. The story is really good, but apart from that Lost Ember offers quite little. Unfortunately, the found objects are hardly motivating. Nonetheless, Lost Ember manages to create a lot of significant moments, that I will surely remember for a long time.- PC Games

Even connoisseurs of the first two parts will be a bit sober after taking off their pink glasses. The story is by far not as good as it seemed back then and the gameplay is completely outdated. The fact that Shenmue 3 doesn't come to a conclusion is unforgivable after the long waiting time and the (financial) support of the fans. Players who approach the title without a nostalgia bonus will be annoyed anyway. The grind is pretty hard, the wandering around and the bad dialogues are even harder, but the fact that the game keeps stopping you on purpose is just incredibly frustrating. Hardcore fans can add something to the rating, everyone else can even pull something off.- PC Games

In the past it was big and noisy games that inspired me. For quite some time now, it's surprisingly often the smaller ones. Games that take their time. Games that create moments that touch me in such a way that they lift me out of my soles. Games like What Remains of Edith Finch. The Bradwell Conspiracy would like to clearly hit this notch, but unfortunately the debut of A Brave Plan doesn't succeed. It lacks depth and courage, at the same time the game is struggling with too many problems. Nevertheless, The Bradwell Conspiracy has a charm that I can't deny - I don't want to deny! I just had a lot of fun immersing myself in the secrets of Bradwell, especially with the photo function and the great written and spoken Amber.- PC Games

I'm a huge fan of Hexfeld strategy games. Whether it's the Panzer General series, Panzer Tactics HD, or much more complex titles like Strategic Command and Gary Grigsby's War in the West, I've spent several hours of my life playing turn-based strategy games with WWII setting. I liked the Panzer General series and also Panzer Corps the best, because they were quite complex, but with a simple user interface and catchy rules. A similar case is Unity of Command 2, where the logistics gives the usual hex battle an interesting spin.- PC Games

The Legend of Bum-bo is more entertaining than I thought. But - and this is the big 'but' – I really hat Bumbo the Stout. I just don't like his playing style. But well, Isaac also has characters I don't like to play with (Blue Baby). I'm too spoiled by The Binding of Isaac in terms of size, and I've got a lot more combinations there because of the higher number of items you can collect (and keep). The bugs are annoying, the crashes too of course - after all, the developers try hard to quickly add patches. In the future I will see myself playing a fast run more often - and maybe another one, and another one. Presentation and faecal humor are a matter of taste, just like the rest of McMillen's games.- PC Games

In the run-up to the test I actually had some concerns about the quality of Need for Speed: Heat. Its direct predecessors from Ghost Games didn't really convince me and also the game play event about a month ago left me with mixed feelings. But the finished game has become surprisingly entertaining. Sure, once again the story is not worth mentioning, the controls reminds of old arcade games and in terms of driving physics and damage model the makers didn't take realism quite so seriously. But if you don't mind that, or if you are looking for exactly that, you'll really enjoy Heat. Otherwise, the title offers everything a car's heart desires: extensive tuning options, action-packed chases and thrilling races - and all this in top graphics.- PC Games

Just like back then, I see the flaws in Ghostbusters: The Video Game, but as a fan of the two cult movies, I don't care about them at all. Yes, there are many far better third person shooters, but in what other game can I use a positron collider to stop ghosts from spraying slime all over people? The shooter gameplay is fun, despite the partly inaccurate controls, and feels exactly the way you want it to feel. Moreover, the game is teeming with allusions and quotes, which put a blissful grin on the faces of the fans of the movies. But the dry humour is also perfectly fits in other respects - no matter if Ray is just obsessed again or Egon philosophises about one of his strange hobbies. In addition, there is a great atmosphere, varied enemy design and of course some iconic locations from the movies. Of course my fan heart beats faster. So I'm all the happier that everything works technically flawlessly in handheld mode and that I can now catch a few ghosts on the go.- PC Games

Planet Zoo was one of the games I was most looking forward to this year. With several preview events, I just had a good feeling that Frontier Developments was playing to the strengths of Planet Coaster and Jurassic World: Evolution, giving us the best build up simulation in recent times. I wasn't disappointed either, although in my opinion there is still room for improvement. The first campaign missions explain a lot of details, but how I now sensibly design a zoo from start to finish was not explained to me. Also the user interface and the handling could be a little more clear and handy - draping certain items in the enclosures really cost me my nerves! It's also a pity that the franchise mode is currently struggling with server problems and so the heart of the game doesn't work yet.- PC Games

The story of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare knows how to convince. The creators of Infinity Ward present here a special shooter experience that is somewhat different from the typical formula of the Activision shoot-out. The wacky Michael Bay action has been brought down a bit, but in return the title now tells a story that breaks social taboos and blurs the boundaries between good and evil. This more serious approach pleases, but unfortunately it wasn't thought to the end. A more critical or reflective approach to the topic of war would have been the premise. But that remains - apart from the somewhat scarce game size and the compulsory online connection - the only point of criticism. The co-op- and multiplayer-mode offer more reason to complain. The special unit missions seem somehow half-baked and lack announced features. The multiplayer battles suffer from the partly confusing maps, which seem to reward a passive way of playing. This clouds the overall impression a bit, even if the title can otherwise fully convince in terms of gameplay.- PC Games

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is the better Yooka-Laylee game. The developer’s decision to create a 2D- instead of 3D-game was the right one. Gears is sawing in the right direction now. Gears of War 4 disappointed a bit, the new Gears studio was under a lot of (time) pressure. This time The Coalition surprised positively. Gears 5 offers more variety than previous Gears and, thanks to Jack, gives real strategic skills for the first time. I also like the longer, atmospheric story sections. Fortunately, the storyline with Kait offers suspense, as the story about the Hammer of Dawn doesn't exactly sparkle with ingenuity. A perfect cast, strong performances and a thoughtful script offer an intimate, almost voyeuristic insight into the personal lifes of these characters, who really grew on me the longer I played. In terms of gameplay, there are ups and downs, some of which could have been avoided. I understand the directors intention behind some decisions, but I wished the game had more options in terms of video control or perhaps even a post-credit-mode that lets me combine two videos into one cohesive dialogue. But as long as you know what you are getting into, this movie-in-a-game-hybrid can be a fascinating experience, even when the overarching storyline turns out to be a surprisingly simple affair.- PC Games

Gibbous is a charming, old school point&click-adventure with a Lovecraftian twist. Despite it being very much inspired by older titles, Gibbous, for the most part, avoids overly complicated and farfetched solutions to its riddles. Anno 1800 is going back to the roots of the series but also manages to introduce exciting new features to the proven formula. The result is a building game that captivates for endless hours and challenges the player more and more with every new unlocked production cycle.- PC Games

Pathway is a through and through a run-of-the-mill experience. The story is pretty uneventful, battles are far too easy to win and the constant need to stock up on fuel for your car drags the game to a screeching halt. Pathway does have its own charm, but Robotality missed the chance to learn from their prior experiences with Halfway and repeats - as well as adds - many avoidable mistakes.- PC Games

It only took about 15 minutes for me to realize that Baba Is You truly is an extraordinary game. Its concept as well as its mechanics are refreshing and nigh perfect. Within the first level, the game teaches you how to play it without having to use even one explicit tutorial-line. And it only goes uphill from there. Sure, not every puzzle is impeccable, and I did manage to get stuck on some, but the overall joy I felt - if one of my solutions actually worked - outweighed all of that. If you’re a fan of puzzle-games, you should definitely check out Baba Is You.- PC Games

With Tropico 6, Limbic Entertainment created a worthy successor to their franchise. As expected, the game is drenched with black comedy and – with a little help of the Unreal 4 Engine – even manages to shine in the graphics-department. Though there are some gripes to have with the game: Whilst the mechanic of stealing various Wonders of the World does pose a nice addition, features like customizing palaces, election campaign speeches, transport logistics and the military component feel lacking. Nonetheless, with its 15 story-missions, Tropico 6 will probably keep you entertained for many days.- PC Games

The basic approach of Generation Zero is quite appealing, unfortunately the execution lacks finesse. The world is too big, too generic, too lifeless. The story and missions feel trivial and the numerous bugs and glitches ruin the last bit of fun.- PC Games

The Division 2 seems to try to atone for the mistakes that where made with the predecessor and it succeeds in an impressive way. Massive clearly learned from the past and crafted an outstanding loot shooter experience. It’s only big flaw is the bland and trivial story and pale characters.- PC Games

Truberbrook entices the player with its beautiful art style, an interesting story and a plethora of oddball characters, which are brilliantly voiced by the German voice actors. Sadly, Truberbrook falls short on the meat of every point-and-click-adventure – the puzzles. Most inexperienced players will get stuck on many puzzle-sections, whilst seasoned adventure-players will breeze through them. There also is a lot of wasted potential in regards to the overall plot and the characters. A little bit more complexity and more thorough characterization would’ve elevated the gaming-experience quite a lot.- PC Games

Dawn of Man is a rather simplistic take on the city builder formula and does not offer as much content as you might expect from the genre. But for a few days I really enjoyed watching my little settlement grow, thanks to its unique setting and accessible mechanics. If you keep your expectations in check, there is a good chance you will enjoy playing Dawn of Man.- PC Games

With Devil May Cry 5 Capcom delivers an action spectacle on a high level, but lacks the ingenuity which characterized the games of Ninja Theory at some points. The disadvantage of the regular change of habits has been cleverly ironed out by the auto-assist-option. In the story, however, it would have been possible to get a lot more out of the three characters. Even though the story isn't the most important feature of an action grenade like DMC 5. Fights, effects, soundtrack, all this ensure that you really felt a lot of joy in knocking the demons out.- PC Games

The core-concept of the motorcycle-action works splendidly in Trials Rising. Every now and then, you catch yourself thinking: “Just one more race.” But not everything is perfect. The loading times between races are quite long and take you a little bit out of the experience. Another thing that bugs me: the huge amount of - basically useless - customization. Graphically though, Trials Rising looks great. Only the Nintendo Switch version looks considerably worse.- PC Games

Too many elementary mistakes were simply made here: the mission design is too monotonous, the story is poorly told, the technology an impertinence. To make matters worse, the makers neglected the endgame. Thus, the former RPG specialists here have finally lost the trust of many fans.- PC Games

The sequel to Far Cry 5 fails to add anything meaningful or fresh. Instead you get a forgettable story garnished with some half-baked crafting and a post-apocalyptic setting that never really comes to fruition. Thanks to the same open world action that we've come to expect from the series - a fluid mix between stealth and explosive combat-, you still get hours of fun with Far Cry: New Dawn, provided that you keep your expectations in check.- PC Games

Wargroove knows how to entice the player with a cute pixel art style, loveable characters, well written dialogue and a strategy experience that will satisfy newcomers as well as seasoned veterans. The story is simple, yet enjoyable ,and the editor - in which you can design you’re own campaigns –, whilst extensive, could be more enhanced on a technical level. A charming Indie-Strategy-Game that leaves room for improvement, but still manages to be a lot of fun.- PC Games

Nomada Studio – the Indie-Developers behind Gris – did not really aim for a classic gaming experience. They more so crafted an interactive art piece that shines through its aquarelle art style and music. Therefore Gameplay is very minimalistic ,and puzzles rarely require any real effort by the player. Yet Gris is definetely worth playing solely for the unique and beautiful design as well as the great score.- PC Games

Its story and characters are definetly the Game’s forte. Scenes range from endearing and relateable to completly absurd and hilarious. All the while Gameplay is interesting at first, but becomes pretty tedious and - in parts - nigh unbeatable in later stages of the game. But at no time did we consider quitting, because the creative story and great dialogue always pulls you back in, as soon as you get annoyed by the puzzle sections. Atlu’s erotic-dating-adventure manages to deliver extremely well on various fronts, but sadly falls short of its gameplay variety and interactivity in terms of story. Nonetheless, all the other parts of the game are strong enough to elevate Catherine to a truly great experience.- PC Games

Dusk does not reinvent the wheel and has no intention to do so. It offers wonderfully fast-paced and robust first person action that mostly lives up to classics like Doom or Quake. Add some great level design and a bold art style, and you get a retro experience that would have been an instant classic, if it had been released 23 years ago.- PC Games
