Steel Division 2 succeeds in its challenge of being more complete, epic and tedious. The Army General mode is the biggest addition, and is challenging enough that it should keep strategists on their toes for a while. The available arsenal is colossal, and can be modified in depth so that players can have fun in Skirmish mode on its 28 maps — some of which are gigantic. It's a beautiful, well-finished game, with its only downsides being the poor pathing of the AI and cruel lack of a tutorial for newcomers.

Steel Division 2 improves every aspect of the previous Normandy '44, but there isn't a tutorial and this could scare many new players.

Compared to its predecessor, Steel Division 2 is even more complex – mainly because of the new campaign mode. Although everything in the game is great for fans of real time strategy, it lacks of a real tutorial. That’s a shame, because without any help the game is much too complicated for beginners.

Steel Division is still the best at its best. The addition of the Eastern Front is a very appetizing content for it's community. However, the rest of the novelties are either expendable or do not work. That makes it difficult to justify this second installment as such. It would have been more appropriate to launch it as a great DLC, thus avoiding further fracturing of the player community.

Steel division 2 steps on a solid ground above its predecessor. General Mode is a brilliant idea, but it is barely playable due to some serious bugs.

Steel Division 2 does almost everything Normandy 44 did as well or better, but just about everything new it tries gets bogged down in the mud.

Steel Division 2 suffers from tons of issues, but if you somehow manage to get past them, you'll realize the potential behind it and how Eugan can make it a lot better if they are committed enough.

This is everything that gaming should be. It's an ode to real time strategy and military simulation that respects your intelligence as a gamer. It feels like a labour of love, like how people used to make games before. You can feel that for these guys, the game they made is not only a career, but also something special, something that will leave its mark, something that will be remembered, something that they would have loved to see on the market and play it themselves.

I honestly think this is the best, optimal concession that can ever be made between realism and fun, more realistic than that and it wouldn't be fun, and more arcady than this and it wouldn't be a wargame simulator. I think there is no other RTS game like this one. This is as close as you'll ever get to the historical authenticy and source material while still having an actual fun and deep tactical strategy game.

Even the "arcady" elements the game has, such as the "signature" Eugen deck-building (which is even better now with phase-selection) mechanic where you build your own division, customized to what strategy you have in mind and yet limited and balanced by the historical limitations of the division you're using, is itself a "realistic" abstraction, and is super fun. It appeals to my desire of creativity. I love coming up with crazy builds such as having an opening with veteran Luchs german light tanks and being rewarded with an early lead in the game.

Does it have flaws? Yes. I think it takes a little bit of time to get used to for sure. You should play a few games vs Easy AI. But, at the same time, with the amount of experience they have in the genre now, with the experience they have from past games, it is clear that this one has achieved something special as it has probably the best UI of all of them (which isn't a feat since all past games had terrible UI lol), and is probably the easiest out of them all to get into and to start playing.

At least you should try playing it, not to mention that it's one of these games that is super fun even on PvE especially if you play with friends.

This is a reference, the "Total War" of WWII strategy games, a pillar of gaming that we will look back to in the future (and play) with fond memories.

Thanks Eugen. Keep them coming please (also, "Wargame 4: Gulf Wars" when? xD)

This time you are actually controlling an army not only a division, game-play has improved a lot. Best thing about its campaign is that it uses turn based campaign map and real time warfare. The only one thing that I hoped for was a tutorial. For Newcomers, tutorial is extremely important in these types of games. Without tutorial, its going to become complex for new players. And they should improve the UI because its less-polished. I hope they add or improve many issues in future. I have played War-game-Red Dragon, it was fun to watch explosions and artillery strikes all around the map.But Overall Steel Division is currently the best WW2 strategy game like Total War. I gave this 9 out of 10 because of no tutorial and a clunky UI which they need to improve. I can recommend this game if you like large scale battles. Also mod support is planned for future and this time with more capability. So keep an eye on that. Expand

Even on lowerI quite like this game and I am doing well in it, but I prefer playing it purely singleplayer. Game can be really frustrating. Even on lower difficulties, the AI doesn't give the player any rest and cheats. It would be necessary for the AI to slow down a bit, especially in large maps. AI artillery really cheats. I spam artillery with the command to target enemy artillery, give it a commander, and still the AI always manages to destroy my arti ,while also managing to wipe out all my commanders and supply trucks across the map. The enemy's air force always seems to be 10 times superior to mine. I send a quick elite fighter plane and it gets shot down by a jeep with machine gun. I have 3x20mm flak guns with a commander next to them and the enemy just flies by and retreats.

AI anti-tank guns are better and more dangerous than heavy tanks. They have disgusting accuracy and can wipe out both tanks and infantry. I really wish that when my supplies run out in a truck, I could withdraw it behind the front and call it back in some time. I would like the option to create my own deck (just for fun experimenting) because tank divisions usually have too little and poor infantry.

The air force should be redesigned to be a bit more usable against AI. As it is now, the player has to eliminate enemy airforce by baiting them to AA. I usually use CAS and Air Force only in the third phase, when I have destroyed the enemy Air Force with AA.
Slow CAS planes like the Stuka are not very usable when they get shot down by a gaz.
It would also be nice if I made an infantry division with low anti-tank capabilities, for the AI to deploy something adequate against me instead of elite IS2 spam which I have no chance of destroying.

Furthermore, it would be nice to have some dynamic campaign where the player would occupy the map and build their own deck, do some exploration, etc. I would lower the support tree prices.
I don't like the general mode.
Since first part Allies are stronger, easier and have better decks.

Eastern front of WW2 was where the real fighting took place yet its implementation was too bad. When you play multiplayer you can understandEastern front of WW2 was where the real fighting took place yet its implementation was too bad. When you play multiplayer you can understand why there is an escalation mechanic but why would they put it into campaign where forces already exist on the map? Even if Red Dragon was an old game , it had far better graphics and effects than this one. I hate projetiles like it was a cartoon. Campaign missions were just grinding same battles over and over. This is not the way to go EUGEN. Expand
