The only group I can recommend this game to would be extreme fans of the movie, and judging from the movie's reviews, there won’t be too many of those.

If you can make hay out of the physics and not run into the maddening frustration that dominated my playtime, then Pumped BMX Pro might just stick the landing. But if you want something that’s more freeing and interesting, you’re better off checking out any one of the other similar games hitting Switch in 2019.

I really wish the missions were more meaningful, because the roots of a great 2D brawler are here – it just needs more time to mature.

If you have a DSi and you find yourself playing it around friends a lot, then Globulos Party might be worth the plunge. However, if you’re a solo gamer, there are much better single-player experience on DS and DSiWare.

Warplanes: WW2 Dogfights is a perfect example of how not to port something to Switch and is somewhat damning to the mobile game environment in general. You cannot simply throw a freemium cell phone game on the eShop, break the progression system, and expect it to meet the expectations of that market. What passes for a game on a cell phone often comes in well below the bar of an dedicated game system.

The unlockables, missions, and wide variety of characters save the game from being terrible, luckily.

Overall, We Cheer's challenging gameplay is exhilarating. However, it does shatter preconceptions about the game. We Cheer can't be played casually and it can't be played carelessly. It's plenty of fun, but whereas Wii Sports was happy to have you simply move, We Cheer challenges you to perform.

My only gripe with this game applies to all of the 3D Classics titles, and that's the lack of an online leaderboard.

Overall House Flipper is a great game to kill time with, and also the perfect game if you find that you need to be able to shut your brain off and just do something for a little while. It’s not perfect and it is definitely not for everybody, especially if you’re actually in the market for something more exciting, but those who enjoy sitting down to slam out a mundane task should strongly consider this game on Switch. While some of the decisions they made in terms of controls were a bit strange to me, I eventually got used to them and found myself enjoying the process just as much as I did on PC. So get in there and paint those rooms the ugliest colors you can find, and put down a chair for good measure, House Flipper is the place to be if you’re just looking to relax.

The game's sound is also underwhelming.

With a glut of superior platformers out there, this is a Wii U eShop game worth passing over.

This is a big, deep game that does justice to the glory days of playing with Go-Bots and Transformers, while incorporating all the collecting madness of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Mable and the Wood is a game that has its heart in the right place, trying some interesting new things in a tried-and-true, side-scrolling presentation. Unfortunately, a lot of those ideas aren’t that appealing and the novel ideas soon unravel into an endearing but merely decent adventure.

Farming Simulator 23 is not a game for newcomers. My time playing was largely filled with confusion, and the in-game tutorials and guides do very little to point a new player in the right direction. It may appeal to core fans of the franchise since it is at least a portable version of the game, but the scaled-back features are likely to be what those players care about the most, and anyway the price tag of $45 is frankly a joke compared to the $8 this same version of the game costs on Android and iOS. Perhaps I’m wrong and there’s some X factor a hardcore Farming Simulator fan can tell I’m missing, but Farming Simulator 23 is a clear non-starter for newcomers that clearly lacks plenty of content that longtime fans have come to enjoy on more powerful hardware.

Thor's not a bad game, it just doesn't seem to care whether or not it does well.

It won't win any awards for ingenuity, but it certainly won't cheat you out of your money either.

You'd be much better off saving some of your hard-earned cash for that tattoo you've been wanting, the diamond-stud earring at your local pawn shop, or the superior GameCube title Street Hoops wants so badly to be.

The mini-games range from mildly amusing (the raccoon-tossing one in particular) to dreadfully boring and bad (the fruit sorting game will be a frequent nightmare for me, I am sure) and the overall quality is unfortunately tilted towards the latter.

The hardest part about reviewing Deadly Premonition 2 is that in a lot of ways it’s exactly what fans of the first game wanted. It’s a broken mess that controls like a dog on roller blades that looks ugly and runs even worse, with the bizarrely charming writing that only somebody like Swery65 could bring to the table. Nobody in Le Carré feels quite Greenvale levels of weird, but they’re all a bunch of weirdos all the same. Well, except David, he’d fit in Greenvale pretty well. If you like the first Deadly Premonition you likely already know what you want and what you’re getting into, and you’ll likely be pretty happy with this sequel. Your everyday average player should probably weigh how much jank they’re willing to put up with before giving this game a shot, though.

A mediocre game in just about every department.

With such a poor graphical presentation, and little-to-no replay value for an already extremely short quest, Mortimer Beckett and the Secrets of Spooky Manor is incredibly disappointing and should be avoided.

Cooking Mama 4 is nothing more than a new iteration of a played out series. This game is for fans of touch screen-based mini-games and references to cooking only. Oddly, despite the term being in the title, there is little actual learning about the craft. For most players, you're better off skipping this title, as it is just more of the same.

In all, the technical problems of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes really make it difficult to recommend, although there’s no dearth of content. You just have to be willing to put up with a lot to enjoy it.

I'd be lying if I said Nintendo Badge Arcade wasn't addictive; it was clearly designed that way. That said, this is the most disgustingly blatant, money grabbing game Nintendo has ever released.

Overall though, Inside My Radio is just alright.

Back to Bed offers a great look into the fascinating world of Bob’s dreams, but sadly you’ll only be there for about two hours. The Wii U version doesn’t include any added content or features, but does support off screen play. While the game stands tall from a presentation aspect, where it lacks most is in the act of playing it. Puzzles offer some clever ideas, but they never truly explore how far each idea could be pushed which results in a simple game that never challenges the player. This might appeal to a casual puzzle fan, but it certainly won’t scratch the itch for veterans of the genre.

The concept of TorqueL is interesting and unique, but the game unfortunately doesn’t live up to its quirky premise. I definitely enjoyed some of my time playing through the campaign, but I never felt that the gameplay ever really clicked with the level design. The art and sound design also leave much to be desired, and can sometimes even be straight up irritating. There may be good value for those who prefer a straightforward platformer with an interesting hook, but for others who want a little more than a one-trick pony I would think twice before downloading TorqueL -Physics Modified Edition-.

A free demo is on the eShop that consists of the first world, including the end boss, and it is worth a look since it gives a very good impression of how the game plays and what it is. With the full game, you get 15+ hours of content for only $9.99, and you can return to completed stages to improve your completion times for crowns and a better star rating, which are tied to in-game achievements. Just don’t expect a ton of variety or hand-holding. Wanderjahr won’t take you a year to beat it, but it might just feel like it.

With fun levels, Solar Flux is definitely a good physics-based puzzle game if you are taking it on the go. With scoring based on how much fuel or shield you use, the game encourages you to play levels over to perfect your strategy. Unfortunately, the Joy-Con controls made things frustrating making me not want to play on the TV. Solar Flux does have some bright spots that certainly make it a game worth playing.

In general, this game is just flat out unenjoyable. It’s sad how this Lego game is completely devoid of the unique humor and style which made previous Lego games so enjoyable. This personality and flair, which has been a staple of the Lego video game brand, being absent from this latest title is disheartening. I’d recommend avoiding The Lego Movie 2 Videogame unless you have to play absolutely everything Lego. Even then, there are just much better games in the series that deserve your attention.

Dodo Peak does feel dated in the sense that you have probably played games like this before during the heyday of mobile games at the tail end of the 2000’s. That doesn’t make Dodo Peak a bad game, but there is a sense that there are other platforms that are much more suited to its approach in game design. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this Switch version and there is still enjoyment to be had. But after you’ve completed the 50 or so levels, there is very little to go back to. Much like the dodos themselves, there is a reason this type of gameplay has gone extinct on non-mobile platforms.

Rise of the Slime isn’t a bad game or a great one. It’s fine. Ultimately, nothing here feels special. Switching gameplay modes from deck-building combat to the pseudo-platforming sections really feels close to being groundbreaking, and I would love to see that explored more in a future game from Bunkovsky Games. Taken for what it is, Rise of the Slime is just okay.

Tokyo Beat Down isn't a great game. It isn't really even that good of a game. But fans of similar games will appreciate what the Beast Cops have to offer, and even gamers lukewarm on brawlers will find some merit in Tokyo Beat Down alongside its painfully unfair and tedious moments.

Sometimes a date doesn't go so well, but the restaurant was good, or the movie was enjoyable. Maybe you bowled a 200, even if you left the alley alone at the end of the night. That's kind of the feeling of playing Date Night Bowling. The bowling itself is fun and challenging, even if the presentation of it is quite bare bones. The dating elements, however, are a major letdown, especially considering the strength of other Serenity Forge-developed games like Half Past Fate and A Case of Distrust, which have particularly compelling narratives and dialogue. There isn't much of a reason to recommend what ends up being a pretty consistent gutterball, with the occasional spare thrown in to save face. I don’t foresee a second date happening.

Cooking Mama: Sweet Shop was my first foray into the series and it left me with a middling feeling. The game is extremely charming, but ultimately, the gameplay is paper thin. That’s only compounded by the fact you’ll be replaying many of the mini games multiple times or similar versions with small tweaks. The game does offer a ton of recipes, easily offering up hours of content for those willing to grind through the mini games, but with little incentive outside of an arbitrary score and medal, it quickly becomes a daunting task.

That’s something that could have gone a long way in making some of the game’s more clunky and frustrating elements a tad more palatable. As it stands, Chubbins ends up a niche title for those seeking a somewhat unique and demanding platforming experience with no frills.

Valtherian Arc is an enjoyable experience that simply needed a bit more polish to be really effective. Unlocking new classes and skills is fun and offers a fresh change in the combat. While there are some frustrating features and gameplay mechanics, Valtherian Arc can still be fun for many players.

Overall the main mode of Rockets is fun but once you move beyond that there is nothing to do in the game. If you have a lot of game nights where you have friends over and the one mode appeals to you, this game can be fun. If you are a solo gamer or think you and your friends would get bored of this quickly then there are plenty of other party games with more to offer.

Super Destronaut DX is somewhat of an improvement. While the solid gameplay and music is still present, the variety of modes is much larger. The title isn't overly difficult, particularly for a veteran, but it is fun time waster that I have no problem turning on. Online leaderboards ensures that it has a bit more longevity, something that was incredibly lacking in the Wii U game. The presentation hasn't improved too much sadly, and it is more irritating than it should be. In any case, if you are in need of an arcade style game, you can do far worse than this one.

This game will only last you few for a few hours, if you're lucky.

If you like the show, you won't mind playing through the game to see what antics Aang and crew get themselves into in the game's original story. You'll just wish the game's shortcomings didn't get in the way.

I don’t hate WWE Battlegrounds. It’s a much more arcadey style of game that I think is a better representation of what a pro wrestling game should be. But it does have its own set of problems in its lack of depth and aggressive microtransactions. I wouldn’t mind seeing more from this series, but it needs some big changes to truly be a fun experience.

Super Toy Cars ends up being a mediocre outing. For some, it might be enough to play through the content it offers and bust it out when friends are over.

If you really like Pokémon (like me) or were a fan of Pokémon Rumble on WiiWare, this sequel is worth checking out. It's shallow and basic, but charming nonetheless.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Adventures is somewhat of an underwhelming game. While a younger player could find potentially some fun in building attractions and coasters, it will feel absolutely flat for most.

Super Monkey Ball 3D is a mess. Sega appears to have forgotten how to make a good Monkey Ball game. The puzzle levels are uninteresting, and the two multiplayer modes are extremely poor rip-offs of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. I can't recommend this game for anyone.

While you will have to endure the game's horrible gameplay in order to gain access to this content, those who stick to the game will ultimately be rewarded with a rather satisfying game.

Despite the frustration caused by these problems, I really enjoyed this game. I'll continue to play it, because even though I know at least a couple times an hour I'm going to want to throw my 3DS through the nearest wall, when that's not happening Shifting World is a great little puzzle platformer with a lot of interesting wrinkles.

Even as a fairly hardcore fan of Spider-Man, I can't recommend the 3DS version. The GameCube Spider-Man games from ten years ago were better than this.

Overall, I have pretty mixed feelings about Close to the Sun. I love the setting and the atmosphere, but the technical problems, chase sequences, and lack of story cohesion ultimately left me wanting.

The core problem with C.O.P. is that it is unfinished. The “dramatic” story is comical: there is a large cast of characters that I don't know anything about nor do I care to, and the plot is confounding and hard to follow. The gameplay is unpolished: driving isn't fun and gunplay is defective. The sound is just not good.

It's fairly short, the graphics aren't too flashy, but it has an irresistible charm. And it comes with a full length cartoon. You'll keep coming back to see what the next bizarre channel will be.

When we didn’t have many options for baseball games on Switch, I put way more time into RBI Baseball than would be considered sane. But with the arcade realm owned by the two Super Mega Baseball games and the Arcade Archives, and the best in the business arriving next year, RBI Baseball is probably going to end up as a talking head on a team’s postgame show.

I admire Solo: Islands of the Heart for its ambition, but virtually every aspect of the game falls short of the noble goals of making an introspective puzzle game centered on love and relationships. The narrative is limited and mildly antagonistic, the block puzzle gameplay transforms into a disaster once the magic staff is introduced, and the serenity of the islands and graphics are dragged down by a middling port to Switch. If you really want someone to question your decisions on love, go see a therapist. This isn’t the game for that.

The good news is that I had an enjoyable time playing the game even without being very familiar with Naruto, so it stands to reason that real fans will like it even more.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is filled with a lot of unnecessary elements - like touch screen mini-games - that attempt to extend the life of a short game. It is perfectly suited to children who enjoyed the movies and can overlook the game's more glaring flaws.

The gameplay shows a few signs of quality in the story missions, but it falls apart in the horrendous driving sections and bland side missions. Ghostbusters die-hards who only have a DS should look into this game, but everyone else should steer clear.

Just too simple for its own good, proving that a fancy presentation isn’t necessarily sufficient to overcome an inherent lack of depth.

It took a while for me to get into Rango, but after giving it a few hours, I was pretty well hooked. Despite its underlying simplicity, the game has a charm that's clearly lifted straight from the movie.

Although fairly competent and often challenging, Battleship is a mediocre licensed game through and through.

Bombing Bastards has its moments, primarily in its single-player, but the failure of its multiplayer really drags the entire experience down. It's a noble attempt at recapturing the Bomberman spirit, but it just misses the mark.

Monster Combine TD has a lot of cool mechanics going for it, but what it lacks is balance.

Coffin Dodgers is more frustrating than fun. If you can suffer long enough through the game's short single-player campaign, the local multiplayer is worth considering. This doesn't excuse rough controls, aggressive AI, and the massive grind mind you. There is so much you need to take for granted, which makes it really hard to recommend. That is a shame, considering the premise behind it is super goofy.

Overall Dead End Job, is really nothing special or original. Its gameplay flow is just another take on The Binding of Isaac mixed with Luigi’s Mansion, and it can’t seem to go five minutes without lifting a joke straight out of Ghostbusters. There are some strengths to the game, such as its wonderfully energetic soundtrack and the high quality of its animations. Its art style, based on the overly detailed gross out humor of 90s cartoons, may vibe well with some people, though I truthfully am not one of them. It’s a game that is clearly trying, but sadly misses the mark, making it feel very much like a career that isn’t really going anywhere. What do you call that again?

There’s something oddly hypnotic and soothing about letting your muscle memory take over as you play one of the most elementary of video game genres, and Galaxy Warfighter seems to understand this quite well. It doesn’t present new obstacles or unique events with each new mission. Instead, it’s just dozens of similar stages that get slightly harder each time you advance, but if you fail you can just spend your coins to make your ship more capable or more durable. Don’t get me wrong; this isn’t the next great shoot-’em-up, but it’s competent and playable and accessible. Galaxy Warfighter would be a great game to introduce a new player to the genre, but it’s just as good at being a background activity. Even though seasoned pilots should probably steer clear, there’s room in the galaxy for new or laid back cadets to take this one for a spin.

Young children will enjoy Bake ‘n Switch’s cartoonish presentation and casual gameplay. However, older experienced players may quickly lose interest in the simplistic, repetitive gameplay loop after a few hours.

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is exactly what it says it is: an Olympics game with Mario and Sonic. While it is fun, it doesn’t necessarily do anything past entries didn’t do. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, because overall it is a fun formula, despite some of its flaws.

Unless you're starved for a 3DS platformer, you should avoid Rabbids Travel in Time 3D at all costs. It's a disappointing and dreary side-scroller. Don't let launch window goggles fool you into thinking this is a good game. It's not.

A very bland and unremarkable game plagued by poor control and design.

Jill's outlook looks bright, however. I can say it was a pleasure to study here, even if it seems that her rote-memorized daily life seems shallow and simple.

So why does it suck? It should be protected by the double negative of the two licenses. Ah, but the truth is that there is a third negative at work here., that being the console-game-ported-to-handheld negative. As far as I know, that is a Triple Negative.

The story is awful, and the gameplay isn't solid enough to carry the weight of an entire RPG.

The game is short, but made to feel long and tedious through repetition. Not recommended.

It’s certainly not a bad way to pass the time, and it’s easier than digging my boxed copy of Yahtzee out of the closet and fiddling with a score sheet. On the other hand, the thrill doesn’t exactly last long.

Spider-Man: Friend or Foe's levels can be played cooperatively in multi-card mode, but with such boring gameplay I cannot recommend one, let alone two, purchases.

The puzzle platforming design is very clever while never becoming too frustrating for the player.

This experience is not for me, and I suspect a lot of players will feel the same.

Hopefully someday Remothered: Tormented Fathers on the Nintendo Switch is improved through one or more patches, because I do think that fans of the genre will enjoy the game, just on a different console.

I Heart Geeks is a puzzle game that provides short-lived fun. My initial reaction to the play style was favorable, but my high opinion of the game slowly dwindled as its problems began to take shape.

SADAME has some cool ideas, but it doesn't know how to execute them properly.

Another gripe is the 3D playfield. It's almost impossible to see the balls behind the balls that are in the front.

Rustler is certainly an enjoyable nostalgic trip back in time for those who are old enough to remember it. Many younger gamers of the Halo and Fornite generation may not be able to appreciate it, but they won’t know what they are missing out on.

If you’re hankering for a bite-sized arcade experience that is heavy on fun and light on content, Pirate Pop Plus is fantastic.

It would be nice if FullBlast had made some bold choices in its design to help it stand out in a very saturated genre filled with similar titles. That said, the base game is fun. It’s easy and approachable for newcomers. But it doesn’t go all that far in any particular aspect.

Flower, Sun, and Rain is largely unenjoyable.

If anything is wrong with Battleship, it is that there is nothing remarkable about it. The game is fun and challenging, but bogged down by the very movie that inspired it. It might have also benefited from some sort of multiplayer option, but as it stands, you could buy far worse on the Wii.

The Nintendo Switch version of Apex Legends is the most disappointed I’ve ever been in a port. I was so excited to play it. Playing a lower resolution, lower frame rate version of the game was something I would have been fine with. It isn’t just a lower resolution and frame rate version, though. Apex Legends on Switch drops frames at the first sight of game play, and it’s an uphill battle, to say the least, when trying to play against other versions that have definite advantages. Even if this was the only version of Apex to exist, it would still be a bad game from a performance perspective. If you do only have a Switch, download it to see what all the hype is about. The game is free, and maybe the performance issues aren’t a big deal to other people. Whatever you do, make sure to turn cross play off.

The visuals are both the best and worst part of the game.

As a Creatures, Inc. developed application, everything is highly polished and works as it's supposed to. It's not especially fun (though my face-off with each legendary critter was a heart-pounding experience), and the clear purpose of the application is to obtain Pokémon and items to transfer to the upcoming sequels. If you plan to own either Black 2 or White 2, this is a necessity, as it will give you a leg up in the game (as well as some exclusive Pokémon). If you don't plan on getting either game, don't mistake this title for a neat eShop diversion. There is nothing here for you.

Dungeon Munchies surprised me with its poor level design and platforming but shined in its story and characters. I wanted more from the characters and would probably have really dug this as a visual novel. As it is, however, the drifty platforming with floors that feel like ice are a slog. Combat wasn’t bad, but I always generally wanted more of the better parts of the game, like the slick soundtrack. By the end of my time with Dungeon Munchies, I certainly wasn’t full. I felt like it deserved more and could be more, maybe a little more time in the oven.

At first glance, Super Toy Cars looks to have a strong offering of new ideas to draw the curiosity of Nintendo Switch Owners. Offering a package of 15 tracks with various racing modes and 16 upgradable cars to tinker with, Super Toy Cars feels like a strong offering on the surface. However, the races and tracks quickly feel repetitive.

If they decided to address the some of the issues like calibration and the music, it would really help, but the main issue with the Joy-Con significantly hinder the experience. I do hope they fix these issues as it has a lot of potential to be a better game, but in the meantime, best to just turn the lights off on this game.

The gameplay was lacking in variety, there were no other people to play online with (I even double checked to see if the game was live at all, which it was, but nope, everything should be working). It just doesn’t feel like either a Wave Race game, a good skateboarding game, or even a good online multiplayer game. If this was a free-to-play title, I may even be a bit more lenient with it, but at half the price of a full retail game, I honestly can’t even recommend it for a laugh. I’m calling it. It’s time to abandon ship.

For every interesting mission, there is an equally lackluster one. The platforming is satisfying, but the sword combat is awful. This is a game of checks and balances, and in the end, it's just another mediocre Sonic game.

This isn’t a game that compels me to play for hours on end. However, it provides ample entertainment, and is one I can easily come back to for some good-old-fashioned island adventuring (plus zombies).

By far the worst part of Vendetta is the controls. Bad graphics and sound can be forgiven if the game itself is worth playing. Unfortunately, it's hard to enjoy a game with controls as bad as this.
