  1. Escape 2 Africa was a delightful surprise.
  2. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa’s lighthearted feel and basic gameplay should appeal to younger audiences and fans of the film, but the repetitive nature and lack of challenge will likely turn everyone else off.
  3. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is filled with a lot of unnecessary elements - like touch screen mini-games - that attempt to extend the life of a short game. It is perfectly suited to children who enjoyed the movies and can overlook the game's more glaring flaws.

A generic and rather boring affair.
  5. Overall, I was unimpressed with Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. It failed to do anything new with the licensed game model and was instead content to just churn out the same basic game we get with most movies these days.
  6. The gameplay is mediocre at best and the camera is far from acceptable. The graphics are choppy and the animation lags. Although the Escape 2 Africa lacks quality it can provided a minor distraction while on a lunch break or between classes.

It actually does 3D on the DS pretty well. Meaning that looks slightly better than a PS1 title (making me wonder why more of those games didn't get ported over). Joking aside, I was legitimately impressed with the production quality. The whole thing is fully voiced with some decent sound-alikes filling in for the cast of the movie. It kind of ends up going to waste as none of the material they were given is funny, but it at least shows the developers didn't completely phone in the handheld version of the game even though history has shown they totally could have.

Aside from a few truly scuffed jumps and checkpoints sometimes being placed too far apart, everything works like it should. There's a little bit of brawling, some light collect-a-thon elements, and you'll even play the occasional mini-game. Each of the playable characters also have their own unique characteristics that allow for a hint variety to be found in their individual stages, on top of there being bonus puzzle-platformer levels that let you swap between the franchise's popular penguins when you aren't goofing around with the optional Mort-themed pinball tables.

The problem is that, while competent, there's nothing really exciting here. All of its decently executed ideas have been done better elsewhere and there's no real reason to pick this version up over its bigger, more impressive counterparts on home consoles unless the DS is simply your only option. If that's the case then this a serviceable, inoffensive experience based on the popular children's film that just suffers somewhat from being incredibly average at best.

Controls are not good and they are uncomfortable to play with.
During the game you will encounter 3 mini games, they mostly consist into memorize an specific pattern of flashing boxes to collect monkeys, i don't know their purpose. But the more you progress this mini games will get harder.
This game is suitable to people who really enjoy the Madagascar films and want to play their favorite film on the go. I think i will later check the PC version to see how it compares to this.
