With its world now completely open, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet clearly make for the best episodes of the saga, but also the most innovative. But on the other hand, it's also the worst in the entire franchise, because of its many bugs that make the internet laugh and its technique that harkens back to the PS2 era. Empty backdrops, blurry textures, framerate dropping all the time, gamers deserve better than this.

Old school but enjoyable, Evil West offers us a scenario of cowboys and vampires, a very naughty gameplay, and a general design inherited from the games of 2010. A formula that quickly finds its limits in certain aspects of the game, but its combos devastating will satisfy you.

As funny as the first episode, even more, Goat Simulator 3 improves the initial concept thanks to a larger open world and somes real nice side quests. Spending a few hours discovering all the secrets (and the easter eggs from the pop culture) of this sandbox is therefore pleasant and often very funny. But the game still has its limits and its concept of joke is still sold between 30 and 40 euros.

The Devil in Me is like the first season of The Dark Pictures: perfectible. If some ingenious shots attest to the developers' love for horror cinema, the stiffness of the facial animations and the lack of relief of the characters prevent any form of empathy, even in the face of a choice with irremediable consequences.

Pentiment is clearly not a game like the others. An investigation game set in the Middle Ages on the side of Germany, the title developed by Obsidian requires an effort of concentration from players unaccustomed to so many dialogues. Despite this, Pentiment is doing well with a captivating story, pleasant gameplay, despite sometimes readability problems in the story, because of its many dialogues.

Rather pretty despite the weak technical characteristics of the Nintendo Switch, Smurf Kart allows some trickery even if we are still far from the finesse of a Mario Kart. Too bad the content of the game is so poor, which leads us to believe that it is a ruse by the developers to deploy DLC afterwards.

Even if old players are the target, Arkanoid Eternal Battle will still appeal to younger generations thanks to the competitive mode. Battle Royale-style kills and a 25-player cap ensure fast, hassle-free games. It is however very regrettable that the servers are so empty, and that we suddenly find ourselves facing AI rather than real players.

Back to 3D for this new episode of Asterix & Obelix, which is a game fairly faithful to the comics. Despite a nice universe, the game is too repetitive with the added bonus of a fairly low viewing time of 5 hours of play. It would have taken more varied levels, more original puzzles and a more ambitious A.I. for the game to really score the spirits.

With Sonic Frontiers, SEGA wanted to modernize its license by choosing the open world, which is a great risk. The idea is good but the result is not successful. The world is empty, with no common sense, game mechanics way too redundant, and technically the game is way too dated. We get bored quickly in this Sonic Frontiers who wants to do something new, but never manages to convince. You don't become an open world expert by clapping your hands, right…

The Chant will not be one of the games to remember in 2022, because of its dated graphics and snoring gameplay. Situations sometimes don't make sense, with weak attacks having more impact than heavy hits. Overall, the combat system lacks dynamism and subtlety. On the other hand, the atmosphere is captivating, but that's not enough to make it a good game.

Once the first 5 hours of God of War Ragnarök have passed, which look like a giant tutorial, the adventure finally really begins and becomes an epic odyssey, much more ambitious than the first episode. The gameplay gains in depth with relevant or ingenious additions, the fights slam hard, especially the bosses (finally colossal monsters!) and exploration will take you to sometimes immense and visually very varied kingdoms. But we especially retain from this God of War Ragnarök a breathtaking staging which multiplies the spectacular and emotive sequences. A truly must-have.

This year's Call of Duty is a solid installment, with gameplay that captures the best of what's been done in recent years. There's a feeling of best of deja vu but it's quite effective. New Tales from the Borderlands is a very good spiritual sequel to Tales from the Borderlands. The genre remains particular, of course, the total absence of challenge, and the passages actually playable can put some people off. Since its announcement last June, the name for the redesign of The Last of Part 1 has been debated among players and even internally between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Naughty Dog. Windjammers 2 is still an addictive game with it's simple yet deep gameplay that asks a true commitment from the player. No playable tutorial is there, and y'oull have to become a master of the frisbee through sheer sweat, tears and blood, but once you've mastered the art of the Flying Power Disc, the rewards are second to none.

Extraction integrates tactical and stealth elements into its co-op shooter gameplay and does a pretty good job of honoring the DNA of the Rainbow Six series. This is not its only quality, and the extraterrestrial threat is a new and welcoming setting, much better that the terrorists and zombies too often seen elsewhere.

Far from having suffered the ravages of time, this PC port of GOD OF WAR is more beautiful than ever. Some options allow graphics to be pushed to the limit, while others are intended to relieve less powerful machines. But what struck us the most in January 2022 was finally to see how far the adventure was ahead of its time. Four years after its release on PlayStation consoles, the game is still as sublime, addicting and impactful.

This PC port fulfills its role very well because it cancels a lot of limitations of the Switch version. The framerate is no longer stuck at 30 frames per second, the resolution can go up to 4K, some textures are much more detailed, and loading times are noticeably reduced. However, we should not expect either that this former Nintendo exclusive will miraculously transform into graphic mastery worthy of the biggest productions of 2022.

With Vertigo, Pendulo Studios is abandoning the genre of puzzle adventure games in favor of slightly interactive fictions, Dontnod Entertainment style. The initial promise was enticing, but the pacing issues, lack of real gameplay, and bugs got the better of our enthusiasm.

The Gunk is a very good independent title that offers graphics that have nothing to envy to big AAA productions. It's a shame though that the game only lasts 5 hours, that the gameplay doesn't evolve much and that it lacks epic moments. Fortunately, it's released on Xbox Game Pass and that fixes a lot of issues.

Taking up the torch of a series interrupted nineteen years ago is never an easy task, but the MercurySteam studio is doing it with honors! The developers have chosen the path of security while perfectly respecting the spirit of the previous episodes, to the detriment of true modernity.

Does Halo Infinite give us a graphic slap worthy of a new generation title? Outside of the cutscenes, not really. Does Halo Infinite offer us an innovative open world? No, the recipe could not be more classic. But Halo Infinite remains one of the best episodes of the saga, which it significantly enriches while offering more tactical combat than ever, the latter requiring the player to constantly adapt to the current situation.

We already had the good feeling during our preview session two months ago, and it is now a truth : Asterix & Obelix Slap them All! is indeed the little nugget that Microids and Mr Nutz Studio have promised us. Mind-blowingly beautiful (and regardless of the medium chosen, no downgrade, even on Nintendo Switch), the game also enjoys solid gameplay with a hint of strategy quite unexpected.

Are Sparkling Diamond and Sparkling Pearl good remakes? The answer to this question depends on your affinity with the artistic direction of Chibi, as well as your expectations in terms of loyalty or, on the contrary, novelties. Here the cursor clearly leans towards fidelity, which seems to reserve the two games for a nostalgic audience. Newcomers might indeed be put off by some gameplay elements that have aged rather badly. Neither shameful nor indispensable, Sparkling and Perle Scintillante clearly fall into the category of remakes which "do the job" but do not go beyond.

Used to atypical games, the publisher Annapurna Interactive surprises us once again with Twelve Minutes. Yes indeed the game has some rigid animations, not really worthy in 2021, game is quite short, and the system of dialogues isn't perfect, but the stifling atmosphere, the atypical staging, the surprising scenario and the puzzles are really worth the detour in our opinion.

In its plan to regain the confidence of players, Microids releases Marsupilami : Hoobadventures, a platform that is certainly inspired by Nintendo productions (Donkey Kong Country for example), but do it really well. Armed with a solid gameplay, the game offers really nice graphics. A really good surprise.

While the lack of a single-player campaign is a hard pill to swallow, Battlefield 2042 really has others strong arguments. Be able to play with 128 players in the Conquest and Breakthrough modes is obviously very good news, the game becoming more "massively multiplayer" and more spectacular, helped in this by an always impressive Frostbite engine.

Making Age of Empires IV a modern RTS without betraying the franchise's origins hasn't been an easy task for Relic Entertainment. While some players may blame the lack of risk taking, it must be recognized that disrupting the original gameplay could also have been taken badly. We are therefore dealing with an "Age of" classic in substance, but renewed in form.

GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition is a worthy remaster (and not a remake, do not confuse) of the classic GTA opus that defined the open-world genre. It's far from perfect, but it does make a 20 year old game widely playable nowadays.

Riders Republic is a bit like Forza Horizon by bike, ski, wingsuit… and less successful, we're not going to lie to each other! The game is far from bad, but its "cringe" dialogues, the endless Ubisoftian micro-transactions, and its sometimes surprising physique prevent it from really reaching new heights.

This new Mario Party is more of a best of compilation than a new iteration. The players will split into two groups : those who will have a feeling of déjà-vu, and those who will appreciate the nostalgic effect. On the other hand, there is no doubt that for newbies, Mario Party Superstars is really a great first experience with the Mario Party formula.

Very exciting on paper, Back 4 Blood still blows hot and cold once you take it in hand. It's a good shooter, yes. The atmosphere and the Left 4 Dead touch are directly perceptible, of course. The card system extends life and encourages players to be strategic, okay. But there are still too many small imperfections here and there to consider the game a total success.

Sledgehammer Games is back after 4 years and they are coming back in great shape. Of course, the different multiplayer modes are still effective, but this year the single player campaign really makes the difference. It has more depth with interesting characters and a spectacular setting. We did not expect such a graphically beautiful game either.

2K Games and Visual Concepts can finally breathe : NBA 2K22 is the episode of reconciliation. With a Career mode which has been enriched and is gradually transformed into a Second Life game with sport (be careful with off-topic anyway), the MyTeam mode which includes the Seasons system and gameplay which tends even more towards simulation, NBA 2K22 is clearly a really good game.

After five episodes, Playground Games clearly mastered the Forza Horizon formula to the perfection. In both substance and form, the success is total. The game even deploys enough assets to convince beyond car lovers, because the adventure mode offers features that remind us the structure of an action-RPG than of a classic racing game.

We will be honest with you : by launching Far Cry 6, we came with a negative opinion. It's true that since the Primal episode, the series has declined over the years, with a New Dawn spin-off completely missing its pumps. But it seems that Omar Bouali and his team at Ubisoft Toronto did not want to be responsible for the downfall of the saga. Result : Far Cry 6 surprises and amazes on many aspects; starting with its story, much more interesting than any that we have lived since the beginning of the series.

Yes the picture is sharper, yes the game is smoother (60fps), yes there have been some improvements to make the adventure more enjoyable, but damn the gameplay has taken a hell of a beating in the back of the head. It was already painful in 2011, it is even more 10 years later, and it is not the tinkering in classic controls that will sublimate the gameplay of this Zelda : Skyward Sword HD.
