Gargamel seems to be a mighty sorcerer, though he has a low budget – the patches on his robe are telling. The Smurfs – Dreams also seems to have had a low budget, but the game, in turn, doesn’t need any patches. It’s beautiful and enjoyable – I simply recommend it.

If you pick up Empire of Ants for any reason, it shouldn’t be the obvious one. Of course, it’s gorgeous, and perhaps one of the most visually stunning games I’ve ever played, but there’s a simple charm to its gameplay and overall worldbuilding that deserves to be experienced by as wide an audience as possible. Whether leading a charge of warriors into battle or simply standing on an abandoned bottle and watching your colony do its thing, there’s something so special about Empire of Ants that makes it an absolute joy to experience.

Graphically, Bejewelled Twist looks like the PC version and the developers have successfully managed to incorporate all facets of this addictive multiplayer title with all its psychedelic colours and special effects. There's definitely no complaints from me. The music and the sound effects once again resonance back to the original game that with the gameplay, make this an entertaining yet sometimes frustrating experience.

Samurai Shodown on Xbox Series X is one for the fans or for those who enjoy games such as The King of Fighters or Metal Slug. While it doesn’t offer next-gen glory on the XSX (e.g. all those bells and whistles of next-gen gaming), it does offer speed and gameplay that runs as 120 FPS that enhances the gameplay of this classic. For newcomers, controls are easy, however the gameplay might be a little tougher to master but nonetheless, it’s a fun game and one that I’m sure fans will revisit many times.

The Dark Knight is working with partners more in this series than we might be used to… but it works well and shows that even the strongest character occasionally needs help from others. I can see heartache on the horizon and a potential avoidance of that heartache… but with Telltale I don’t want to count my penguin eggs before they’re hatched, so I will just wait, impatiently, for the next episode and I will hope that I’ve made the right choices up to that point and that my final choices don’t hurt the ones I love. So for those, like me, who are now caught up in the story… just remember the next episode will be via the same Bat channel and keep an eye for the Bat symbol for release date.

If you can work around the resource supply issue… this is indeed a nice chill little game. It’s not overly deep or taxing… but it’s kind of nice watching your little town grow into a thriving city and the little fairy tale elements here or there just add another bit of charm to it all. It’s not terribly expensive but it’s not a huge game either so it’s about the right point (but if you’re not sure, just wait for a sale). Certainly worth a look if you want a city builder that’s a bit less stressful and has some mild fantasy elements.

If you have a reverence for the original Need for Speed Hot Pursuit or if you’ve never played the original and are simply looking for an excellent racing game, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered is worth your time. The game doesn’t quite look or feel quite on par with modern racing games, but it has always been in a lane of its own and still offers an undeniable sense of speed and satisfaction in the gameplay. The remastered edition also includes all the additional DLC content and some new achievements, so there’s a decent value proposition here too. South of Midnight is a powerful and charming adventure about the healing power of empathy. Its well-written and thoughtful narrative is backed up by a beautiful art style and a tactile sense of place that makes it impossible not to be drawn into its fantastical, though often harrowing, world. Though the combat isn’t quite as slick as it could be, especially compared to the tight platforming and level design that encourages exploration at almost every turn, it’s still well worth the price of admission, especially considering it will be on Game Pass at launch. The only baffling omission from the package is the lack of New Game+ to mop up the floofs and journal entries you’ll inevitably miss. What I’m trying to say is that I already want an excuse to play through South of Midnight again, and that’s probably the highest praise I can give it.

The return of Hot Wheels has brought with it mixed results. The racing action is undeniably exciting and pulse-quickening, which correlates wonderfully with the nostalgia of using the real-life playsets, and the are plenty of models to collect that you’ll feel spoilt for choice. However, Turbocharged is weighed down by overfamiliarity, unambitious race modes, on-track frustrations, and a sense not enough has been done to evolve this sequel. On a base-level, Turbocharged is a pleasure to play, but Milestone should try to stop toying around with this franchise, it’s got the va-va-voom to be something special, but unfortunately Turbocharged isn’t quite it.

This kind of came out of nowhere for me but it’s really right up my alley. A dystopian world with a well developed story… a splash of sci-fi and stunning visuals. A very tolerable amount of horror (don’t get me wrong… some of those moments if played in VR would probably require a pants change)… puzzles that are a challenge but manageable. Not to mention a moving soundtrack (even if I did have trouble making out what the words were in the song near the start of the game). Although a bit light on main missions, the amount of new content on offer here makes The Tengu’s Disciple a must for anyone who enjoyed the base game. The new weapon is a blast to use and the new difficulty ensures that those players who had capped out all of their gear and explored all regions fully will now have an incentive to play through not just the new content but also previous missions as well. Hopefully Team Ninja continue to support Nioh 2 with more content that is as high a quality as this is, and, going off of their past record, I feel confident in saying that I think that they will knock it out of the park… Let’s just hope that the wait is nowhere near as long between releases this time. Overall I was very happy with it. My last Warhammer experience was with Eternal Crusade which really didn’t hit the spot for me… so Dawn Of War 3 is a pleasant scratch to that itch for some space melodrama. As mentioned, if you are a long time fan, don’t expect to get the same game you’ve played before… or even a mix of the two, it would seem they have taken a slightly different approach. On the other hand if you like a bit of RTS action, some fun storytelling, it’s a great bit of fun and visually quite pretty (epic opening movie especially). At the point of writing this, I was quite happily playing along and have had the game crash twice, the first I was able to escape from by using a bit of Alt Tabbery… but the second time that would not release me from the game, no crash report, nothing. Control Alt Del did very little but by using the windows key I was able to bring up the start menu and though I couldn’t do much there I was able to restart the computer. I’m not currently keen to jump back in, preferring to wait to see if there’s a patch, but I would love to continue playing in the world of Control and that’s testament to the game world Remedy have created. It looks great, it’s an absolute blast to play and it manages to keep upping the ante at every step of the journey to create a fun and memorable gaming experience. The biggest criticism I have of Carrion is that it is fairly linear and rather thin on content – you can play through the whole thing in about four to five hours and there isn’t any motivation to go back through once you’re done. However, the fantastic pixel art and brutally satisfying gameplay more than make up for these shortcomings – do yourself a favour and pick up Carrion to unleash some of your built-up isolation frustrations on some hapless pixelated scientists.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is the game that old school fans of the series have been waiting for. By taking the action back to its roots, Ubisoft has crafted one of the most exciting entries in the long running stealth series for the best part of a decade.

Even if you already have a fitness game or two in your collection, I’d recommend Fitness Circuit be added as it does a great job filling the position of your own personal trainer without any of the “tough love” you might otherwise be subjected to. Fun and fitness in one package… grab your sweat pants and grab a copy!

Is Planet Coaster 2 going to replace the original as my go-to park builder just yet? No, but it almost definitely will in the future. It’s early days, and to discredit the work that Frontier has put into Planet Coaster 2 would do them a huge disservice – there simply aren’t any other studios out there that push out such quality games. It’s still a way off becoming the ultimate theme park builder, but if other Frontier titles are to go by, give it a little time (and a little polish) and Planet Coaster 2 will undoubtedly be the sandbox my dreams.

Torment: Tides of Numenera is fantastically written and incredibly deep in the narrative department, offering an engrossing main story, set of characters and tons of genuinely unique and rewarding choices and consequences to discover via its complex dialogue trees and gameplay interactions. It also has one of the best written, intriguing futuristic sci-fi worlds ever created. Unfortunately, its turn-based combat systems fail to impress, and many technical issues on console coupled with minor problems like a lack of character portraits and underwhelming animations bring down the overall experience somewhat.

In FC 25, FC IQ provides a welcome strategic overhaul for several FC modes, and Rush is apt to be a big hit for FC online community now with more social options. FC 25 is not a largest leap from FC 24, but definitely a step in the right direction for the franchise.

For veterans of Doom Eternal, The Ancient Gods DLC is arguably a must-by…especially if you’re looking for increased challenge and some clever worlds. Bethesda is likewise famous for supporting their titles to the nth degree, thus this DLC will offer significantly more playtime for the Doom devotee. There’s oodles of ongoing and/or contests for those registered with Bethesda’s online Doom portal. New players…don’t bother. The barrier of entry is simply too high in storyline, complexity and difficulty. Start with the main title (now readily available at huge discounts), and revisit this DLC in due time.

One of the more middling entries in a franchise that is feeling more than its fair share of fatigue, and although it offers up a solid enough and serviceable experience for players, it unfortunately falls short of the lofty standards established by Modern Warfare.
