  1. It isn't deep. It won't set a new standard for action games. But I had a great time playing and I believe you will too. This is the first Transformers game I've been excited about, and having played it I can say that my excitement was validated.
  2. High Moon Studios did a great job with Transformers, finally bringing gamers a vision of Cybertron and its popular inhabitants that we've long wanted to see. Both the campaigns and multiplayer sides offer a lot, making the total package impressive and one I happily recommend.
  3. High Moon Studios managed to create a living & breathing world – I know, kind of ironic for a game about robots, isn't it – that did justice to the source material.

Imaginative, visually stunning world to explore. [Sept 2010, p.82]
  5. Transformers: War for Cybertron has taken a significant leap over the previous next-gen Transformer games.

As an action game, this can't contend with the top dogs in the genre, but that's a moot point, because it isn't just an action game. It's a Transformers game. And Transformers: War for Cybertron is better than anything else we've seen from the license before.

This is a whisper of what the IP has to offer videogames rather than a realisation, and there's no disguise in the universe that can hide that. [Aug 2010, p.94]

This is the single best transformers anything I have ever seen. I normally don't like transformers but wow. There is not a single problem, Well the match making in the game is a little touch and go. Other than that, AMAZING. Recommend to all. Even if you don't like/hate transformers. Expand

The campaign levels are very linear but well designed, and each of the playable characters feel different. The story is pretty good, and was continued greatly in the sequel, Fall of Cybertron.

In its prime, the Multiplayer and Escalation modes were unmatched. The multiplayer had such fluidity and movement in its combat, and wasn't replicated by any other shooter at the time. The escalation mode was somewhat similar to COD zombies, but had more depth due to the enemies actually shooting back at you.

I say "was," because the servers have been down since 2020. They have been mostly revived due to community effort on PC and PS3, but due to some internal systems they will likely never be revived on Xbox 360.

Even still, this game was and still is incredible.

The story is very well written for the game. I liked going back to Cybertron and seeing this incarnation of how the Transformers left Cybertron. In all honesty, I find this plot more enjoyable than any of the movies, as much as I like the movies. Usually, I don't play 3rd person shooters, but WFC's gameplay is one of those TPS games that I really enjoy. The gameplay is simple and fun, and that's how I think gameplay in a Transformers game should be, not all kinds of combat and special moves. All WFC adds is special abilities only certain characters can do, and while these are helpful, I don't find myself using them that often, with the exception of the dodge attack. The graphics are very nice for a transformers game. it adds a lot more color then previous titles, but sometimes I feel like the graphics are done TOO well. Sometimes there may be spots where too much is happening in the background, and this is hard to pay attention to when you're in combat. The multiplayer is quite fun. My only real complaint is that there wasn't much customization for bots: just recoloring other transformers. Escalation is my favorite part of the game. I like many co-op survival games, like call of duty zombies or left 4 dead. Escalation is no exception. Its gameplay is addicting, and I'm constantly trying to get more points to survive. Overall, Transformers: War for Cybertron is one of those rare licensed games that really works. The story is great, the graphics are beautiful, and escalation mode adds a lot to the fun afterwards. This is one game I recommend to anyone. Expand

The I was hesitant to buy this because the first 2 transformers games were horrible, but I have to say, this game absolutely blew me away. The single player story line is quite good, and the multiplayer gives the player flexibility with all the options for creating a character. The reason I gave it a 9.0 instead of a 10.0 is one thing that annoyed me a bit with the multiplayer. It appears its tied to the person that creates the match because several times I have been booted out of matches before they are over with a message that the host left the match so it was ended early. I hope they change that because it gets somewhat annoying. Expand

even though the campaign was a bit stale, the escalation and action itself through it made it all the more fun.
one thing I enjoyed was the dialogue and voice actor choices. they seemed to be a better fit than the originals for most of them (with the obvious exceptions being optimus prime and megatron of course)
The multiplayer is very solid, and escalation mode is even more so.

The only problems I found with it were the array of characters in the game, it just seemed undermined for a game about transformers, there are too many to count, but they only had so many of them, granted they were ones that we all know and love.
another problem with this game was how long it took to beat it, if youre a well seasoned war game player, the campaign only would take you a few hours to beat, on every difficulty.

so this game is, in this random dude's opinion, 8 out of 10
(just so long as you make the game last lol)

Using the Unreal Engine, fits nicely for this game even if it is getting a bit over used these days and has a been there done that vibe! Small Glitches such as Camera issues, and Jumping problems are few and don't cause to many Headaches. Voice Acting is much better then most games, even if Megatron can come off as Whining at times demanding to be served. AI seems to be pretty sturdy with just a few glitches such as enemies running in place behind boxes and poles, and AI partners randomly killing themselves by running off the edges of platforms with them to only magically appear right beside you again. Pacing seems strong and you really don't have many down times. Overall a Very Strong Game, considering how games of this type have fared in the past. So pleasantly surprised. If your a Fan of Gears of War, Unreal or other games of these types you will enjoy this game! Expand

awww man, i gotta do 150 characters minimum? ok here it goes:
Looks: terrible, way to b lazy craptivision
Mechanics: not enough ammo, "powers" are lame, lackluster, all basically the same
umm, what else. ok, basically u run from one cybertron themed room to another fighting generic robots. sub-par graphics, it really is all that is wrong with movie games. if u absolutely must play all transformers games then please just rent it so they dont get any money at l;east, but seriously, this is beyond a "skip", this deserves serious repercussions. seriously craptivision, how hard is it to just make a decent game?
