Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition offers the same solid game experience, but as the DLC's that are included are not brilliant, we wonder if the the astonishing graphics is worth the big price difference with the original one.

Definitive Edition is not quite an essential purchase – especially if you already played and finished the original release – but it’s definitely worth picking up if you’re hankering after the kind of open world criminal action that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

A more polished version of an already polished game.

It's a shame we're not getting any new content here, but it is indeed the best opportunity to try an outstanding game that have already surprised many players during the previous generation.

There isn't a good enough reason to double-dip if you played the original, but if you haven't had the pleasure, we'd suggest you Triad it out. [Dec 2014, p.94]

While it can look nice under the right conditions (usually during well-lit cutscenes or when the sun goes down), Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is the least impressive new-gen remaster I've seen so far. And as somebody who played through the entirety of the game upon its original release, the visual tweaks on offer here did little to convince me that I need to play it, or more importantly pay for it all over again.

Sleeping dogs, one of the best games ever in my opinion!
I played Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition over a year now and my conclusion is: It is one of the best games of all times I played.

First of all: The setting is fantastic and so intense. Hong Kong is where East and West meet, a place of cultural intertwining and has so much potential for games and interesting stories. The city was perfectly created by the devs and I really had the feeling to actually drive through the city. The graphics were also somewhere between ok and fantastic, especially at night, when driving through foggy rainy weather.

Then the story: For me this story was one of the best game stories ever. You had this really sympathetic character Wei Shen and you could follow his development and changes from a righteous police officer to a corrupt cop. Observing him on his way was fantastic and the overall premises of the story caught me way more than any GTA stories which are more or less about getting rich. This is not to say GTA 5 is a bad game. But the underlying premise of sleeping dogs is way more humanistic and I found that more fascinating

And last but not least, the amazing fighting system and the feeling of substantial progression. At the beginning of the game, the fights are arduous and hard, because you only know the basics but in the endgame when you mastered the fundamentals plus upgraded your character it's a blast.

This cop drama story is very well balanced and has a great depth in it. The experience is well enough to keep you stuck with the controller for hours. After a long time I found a game which is so much addicting.
The definitive edition does come with all the DLCs which is an advantage and overall the DLCs are also good. It also comes with graphical enhancements which are better than the original game.
The only down point is the poor animation and lack of online game play. But it does have online scoreboards and all that.

Even if it has been improved, the graphics are far below PS4 quality, certainly no where near Watch Dogs quality, and certainly not worth the $60 price tag. Tomb Raider Definitive Edition looked far better than this and it was priced more appropriately at $40, and so was The Last of Us Remastered. That's a shame because Sleeping Dog's main campaign is a ton of fun and I loved every minute of it. The game comes with all the DLC but I had no interest in the halloween themed missions and since there is no multiplayer aspect in Sleeping Dogs I decided to trade this game in. If I ever want to replay the main campaign I could just do it on Playstation Now for a fraction of the price. Expand

The 2 main differences between Sleeping Dogs and GTA are the setting and the gameplay style. The game takes place in Hong Kong and plays as a brawler instead of a 3rd person shooter (in fact even when you get a gun it's bad and unwieldy IIRC, so you'd better stick with hand-to-hand combat). Sleeping Dogs is very close to a Yakuza open world game if there ever was one. Driving around with a motorcycle or a car is OK, and there are many emergent gameplay scenarios like robberies or assaults to deal with. Sleeping Dogs has got a relatively good story and character development, but technologically the game wasn't cutting edge even when it launched back in 2012 and today it looks archaic. Still it's a good game for solo players, but there is no online mode of any kind. The Definitive Edition includes all the DLCs. I definitely recommend Sleeping Dogs to everyone interested in open world games, especially since nowadays it's super cheap. Just don't expect it to be on the same level as a Rockstar game. Too bad a sequel never happened. Expand

DueI remember really enjoying this on my PS3, but the PS4 version won’t allow me to take a picture in the Popstar mission early in the game! Due to this glitch I can’t continue the campaign. After a couple hours of research on the net to try and find a workaround, i gave up. Apparently this was an issue on the PS3 as well & was not addressed in the “definitive edition”!!!! Not very “Definitive” if you ask me! I want to play the game again, it won’t let me though Expand
