A good game made great, Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition is a flavoursome and entertaining open world action game that can be recommended practically without qualification.

While overshadowed by Grand Theft Auto V, Sleeping Dogs is still a well written and executed action game. The combat mechanics are nothing short of superb. [Dec 2014]

If you missed Sleeping Dogs last generation then you really should pick this up – With all of the DLC and refinements this is truly the definitive Sleeping Dogs experience… On consoles, at least.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition offers the same solid game experience, but as the DLC's that are included are not brilliant, we wonder if the the astonishing graphics is worth the big price difference with the original one.

Sleeping Dogs is great, and if you haven't already bought the content previously, it's an excellent deal. However, the Definitive Edition manages to leave a lot of relatively harmless, yet annoying, bugs in place which is a letdown.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition improves graphics, now 1080p, and it adds all DLCs. If you like sandbox games, go ahead and get ready to fight with martial arts and perfect shots, also enjoy driving in wonderful Hong Kong.

If you have played Sleeping Dogs before, there’s no point in picking up the Definitive Edition. But if you’ve missed the original game, you’re gonna have a lot of fun in Hong Kong. [01/2015, p.71]

I loved the game when I played it as a freebie on PlayStation Plus ages ago. I love it even more on my shiny, powerful, PlayStation 4.

A great improvement over a very good surprise of 2012. PC players of the original game could not see the difference but gamers on PS3 and Xbox 360 and especially newcomers have a great opportunity to (re)discover and enjoy a very good game.

This new version of Sleeping Dogs can't compete with its Square Enix mate: Tomb Raider Definitive Edition. The game's graphics have undoubtedly been improved but sadly not enough. It still can't compete with the PC version, which makes it useless for all the gamers who already played the game. If you never experienced this nice GTA-like, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is the way to go.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is amongst the finest open-world games of recent years, with gratifying and brutal combat, a genuinely gripping story and excellent car handling for this type of game. Despite some technical issues, which perhaps should have been addressed for a ‘definitive edition’, the game remains as playable as it was two years ago.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition enhances its visuals in order to delight franchise's newcomers. Its abrupt driving style is still there, but the presence of all the DLC's and a long campaign mode can also draw in those who already played this game in the past generation.

A good game, but not the big new release that makes you feel like you’re playing on your next-gen console. There’s a lot of content here though thanks to all the added downloadable content and the new fighting system is worth the mention. For people who have played the original to death, there’s little on offer here to justify a second purchase.

Definitive Edition is not quite an essential purchase – especially if you already played and finished the original release – but it’s definitely worth picking up if you’re hankering after the kind of open world criminal action that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

While Sleeping Dogs is still an excellent game, the Definitive Edition simply doesn't bring enough to the table to make it fit in with other games on the new consoles. Without adding more than some aesthetic polish, it simply doesn't feel worthwhile unless you missed out on the game in the last generation.

A light renovation of an unexpectedly good open world game. Definitely not a must buy if you already played the original, even if it offers quite a lot of bang for your buck.

It's a shame we're not getting any new content here, but it is indeed the best opportunity to try an outstanding game that have already surprised many players during the previous generation.

The brutal combat, the cops and robbers attitude, the explosive narrative are as entertaining as they were two years ago. And although it of course looks better on the new consoles it doesn’t do the hardware justice.

United Front's game has aged, and not well. Especially when you look at the combat system, you realize how better were some things you played in the last two years. Yet, for those who have missed it (and don't have a PC, even an average one), this edition is a good chance to free roam in Hong Kong and have a fair share of kung fu.

There isn't a good enough reason to double-dip if you played the original, but if you haven't had the pleasure, we'd suggest you Triad it out. [Dec 2014, p.94]

That Sleeping Dogs only receives the slightest of graphical upticks--primarily in textures and fine details--is less a sign of laziness in porting the game to next gen so much as a testament to how well-crafted Sleeping Dogs was to begin with.

It’s adequate, and it’s overpriced especially given the fact that the exact same game is selling for half the cost on PCs.

The Definitive Edition of Sleeping Dogs is first and foremost for new gamers who haven't played the fun original. The extra missions are decent, but more of the same and the graphical improvements, while fine, aren't stunning.

Sleeping Dogs doesn’t change our opinion about the original: this is once again one of the most fun open world games out there. We do mind that after two years, there’s still a lot to improve on. The best version of this game should’ve been much better.

It's almost like the original game, with a better frame rate but also a more expensive tag price. You decide if it's worth it.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition provides a good excuse to get involved with Hong Kong's shady dealings if you haven't already, but a lack of new features makes it difficult to recommend a return trip – at least at full price.

Sleeping Dogs is a fantastic open world game that benefits from the enhanced graphics found in this Definitive Edition. All isn’t well though and a lot of annoying frame rate issues impacts the playability negatively. This remaster is still playable and entertaining, but the normal PC-version is still the best and cheapest way to play Sleeping Dogs.

While it can look nice under the right conditions (usually during well-lit cutscenes or when the sun goes down), Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is the least impressive new-gen remaster I've seen so far. And as somebody who played through the entirety of the game upon its original release, the visual tweaks on offer here did little to convince me that I need to play it, or more importantly pay for it all over again.

    Pros:
-It's an open world game and that is inherently fun

    Oks!:
-There is a lot of things to do in the city but they are rarely that interesting
-The melee combat feels sluggish and doesn't compare to Yakuza, a game it takes influence from. The best strategy is to wait and counter attack and when a window of opportunity opens up grab a bad guy and throw him out of it.
-Shooting doesn't control well, it's rigid and the auto aim is goes haywire at times, but when you hop over cover you can slowmo shoot people, adding time to your slowmo when you kill somebody. The cool factor really saves the shooting. When you see a bunch of enemies in plain sight and mow them all down while never breaking slowmo - that's where it's at.

    CONS:
    -Controls are unresponsive at times.
-Graphics are pretty bad for PS4 game but fine by ps3 standards.
-Sometimes missions are a bore to play

    OVERALL:
-An unpolished GTA clone with a unique setting and good enough story to make it worth your time. Also the genre is pretty great so it's got that going for it.

It is not aA poor port with last gen graphics which will disappoint the moment the game starts. First of all do not be confused by its title. It is not a Remastered version but just a really really bad port which for some reason seems worst than its ps3 release. The game is full of glitches from the very beginning and every mission you do will have the same problem. This is not what kind of quality we should be getting for next gen consoles! It almost seems as if the game makers wanted to make more money off this title by giving it next gen release with an art book to hide the shame of it being a terrible port. If you only own a ps4 and want to try it give it a rent. But if you have a ps3 or 360 then buy it for cheap on that, otherwise stay away from this horrible port of a bad graphics game! Full Review »
