Shadow Warrior is a wild ride; crazy, hilarious and fun. It’s an old-school wolf in modern clothing that plays and feels just like the classic 90’s shooters we all fondly remember. Though it tries a bit too hard in some areas, it can’t be faulted for at least trying to elevate itself above other shooters.

Swords of Ditto is a very stylish mashup of 2D Zelda and roguelikes, in which you will not see everything it has to offer within the first playthrough. Its time limit is too constricting in the first few hours however, which might put a lot of people off an otherwise fun adventure.

I’d recommend playing this in handheld with touch controls and a bit of button controls for the best experience. If you’re a fan of strategy games and want a nice meaty title to play on the go, this is well worth your time. I can’t wait to see what the developer brings to the Switch next.

The Missing’s story is one that everyone needs to experience. It is personal and very unique. A lot of the game looks great even in handheld mode but this could definitely have used a bit more time for the Switch version. It has a bit too many issues on Switch. If you haven’t played this and want to, look at the other platforms because in its current state, the performance issues and other annoyances make this a lesser version of a great game.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is an extremely mixed bag so far. While I’m enjoying the atmosphere, the few stealth-based missions (I say “based” but you can just wander in and shoot everyone) have been the highlights. Skif is a likeable enough horrible person, and I like how much there is to do in terms of quests and side content, but it’s held back massively by stifling bugs, unsatisfying gunplay, iffy voice work and sound design, and a general air of being five to ten years behind the modern market. Or maybe I’m just missing the point. Either way, with only around a dozen hours played I’m still in the early game, so perhaps by the time I come to add a score to all this, a lot will have changed. Either way, right now, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl isn’t setting my world alight. [Review in Progress]

Phantom Doctrine is a strange one, all told. On the one hand it’s so like Firaxis’ modern classic that it’s almost laughable, but then it throws its own blend of ideas and innovations into the mix that do just enough to produce a brand new flavour. One thing I didn’t experience with Creative Forge’s game was boredom. I enjoyed the idling moments between missions when I felt like the director of a secret team of spies almost as much as I enjoyed directing the spies on the ground, and the overall experience is one I’d recommend to any fan of turn-based tactics or cold war skullduggery.
