The Elder Scrolls Online: The Gold Road is brimming with new things to see and do, and the Scribing mechanic is a fantastic addition to the base game. With new enemies, solid visuals and a compelling narrative to follow, The Gold Road is a path worth traversing.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road didn’t attempt to do anything to “shake things up” for its 10th anniversary. But it didn’t need to—and its latest expansion is a great example of how it manages to keep things fresh while never veering too off-course from its core gameplay loop. Featuring an enticing new storyline with a brand-new Daedric Prince, the incredibly rewarding Scribing mechanic, and the entirety of the West Weald to explore, The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road is an incredibly enjoyable expansion and the perfect way for fans—be they veterans or newbies—to celebrate ESO‘s 10th anniversary in style.

The Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road is a solid expansion, but unadventurous and less inspiring than High Isle or Necrom. The celebration of the MMORPG's 10th anniversary could have been something different to surprise fans. Nevertheless, the hits and new adventures are still present.

From a gameplay perspective, Gold Road is rich in interesting ideas and quests that differ from previous installments. The map is highly detailed, and exploring its countryside and incredible Ayleid ruins was enjoyable. The overall difficulty in the open world is slightly higher compared to the rest of the game world. Both World Bosses and World Events cannot be completed alone, not even with a max-level character; the presence of other players is crucial, which fortunately is never lacking. However, it's noticeable that the game's 10-year age shows, especially in quests where developers pushed the game's limits.

The writing and the design butt heads a little too often, resulting in an expansion that keeps getting in its own way. There is gold; just not enough. [Issue#43, p.98]
