    I absolutely loved the Sega 3D Classics Collection. Sega did an outstanding job in picking this lineup (they credit fan requests) and the work is presented with love.

    A great compilation that offers 9 awesome classics, although only 7 of them have something 'special'. Altered Beast & Thunder Blade are the low points on this compilation.

    Sega 3D Classics Collection is a hard release to judge. On one hand, it’s a mixed selection of M2’s fantastic library of classic Sega games reworked for the 3DS. On the other, it offers up stellar versions of every one of those games, which fans will especially appreciate.

    It’s a nice package, and the 3D is proof that classic titles from what I consider the golden era of gaming can pop fantastically well on the 3DS. Next time, hopefully the selection can vary more broadly, making the package both worthy of a full price tag and hours of investment instead of a burst of nostalgia and the question of why my wallet feels lighter than it should.

Good because you get to play old classics from Sega remasteres and running smoothly on your 3ds for a decent price. Bad because the chosen titles could have been more and better, and some of them, like Altered Beast, have not aged so well. Still, the game fills a gap for the Sega fans and hopefully Sega will release more of them soom.… Expand

    Power Drift: I must be honest and say i have all the arcade sprite scaler games on this collection, but Power Drift is one game that, untill now, never had a proper release in Europe. Lucky for us, this best ever version of this game finaly gets a official release. You will notice the smoothness and deep colors of the graphics. Compare this to the Dreamcast version, and even more so with the Saturn version, and you will see a big improvement. On a small screen (even the XXL 3DS) the graphics are not that blocky, and the wide screen conversion is done so good, it almost feels like this game has always been made for widescreen. This is a huge compliment. What i like about the game itself is the amount of tracks. There are 5 racing series with each containing 5 circuits. Finish each track in first without using a continue, and you will be able to drive a 6th track, with eighter a jet fighter from Afterburner, or the motor from (Super) Hang On. So combined, there are 27 tracks. Gameplay feels like playing the orginal arcade game, and even with the Dpad, it feels smooth. With lots of extra options, like different ways to shift gear, or the customising controlls to the players taste, and the well known inclusion to turn on or off the arcade cabinet sounds, as if you are playing on the original game. For me, the inclusion of this perfect version of Power Drift warranted the complete price, and the rest of the games are just a welcome bonus!

    Puyo Puyo 2: I love those puzzle games where you have to get a certain amount of same collored jewels/beans together before they be removed and send to the opponent as garbage. This arcade version witch plays and looks like the Megadrive/Genesis game mean bean machine is a bit tougher, but there are options to send more or less garbage to the opponent, and the AI skill can be set higher/lower. I like this version, but even on the most easy setting, this game is much harder than the game it looks like (mean beat machine). It is fun to play this game a few times, untill you get the game over screen, and then the desire to switch to one of the other games included in this compilation. But this is my opinion, and better puzzle gamers might enjoy the bigger challenge.

    Fantasy Zone II W: Lets start with the fact that i have no skills in playing side scrolling shooters, and this game has got a few play mechanics that makes the game to hard for me. Let's start with the way you level up your aircraft: By killing enemies who drops coins, you collect as much as possible. When you get to a shop, you can buy upgrades to your ship with the collected coins. So far so good, as this makes your ship more powerfull, and so you can shoot enemy crafts more easy. But die, and your power up will be removed. But when you get back in the shop to buy it back, you will notice the price has gone up! So before you get to buy the power ups you want, you loos lots of money, and later in the game, there's no way you can win with the default ship. Combine this that it feels like i am a bullet magnet, makes this game for me unplayable. Skilled shooters love this game, and i do am able to see why: It is one of the first cute ém ups, and has a bright color sceme, wonderful world and enemy design, and great sound. In short, if you are good at side scrolling shooters, this is a exellent game, with great graphics and sound, and controlls.

    Sonic The Hedgehog: Famous Megadrive/Genesis game. Love the inclusion of the super spin dash!

    Thunder Blade: I am much better at this shooting game, and am able to finish it. Love the sprite scaling and different ways the screen scrolls.

    Galaxy Force II: I reviewed this before, and still think this is the best sprite scaling shooter Sega has ever made. The 3D and tight controlls makes this a winner for me!

    Altered Beast: I had this on the Megadrive/Genesis, but this game has not aged that well for me. Fun to play once or twice, and that's it.

    Fantasy Zone II: I never had a master system, but like the arcade version, this is to hard for me.

    Maze Walker: I love how good the 3D works, but the game is to basic and challenging for me. As i never had a Master System, i have no nostalgic feelings for this game.

    Fantasy Zone (hidden): Just tap and hold the empty space next to the button on the right bottom side of the screen and you get this game. To hard for me, but great to have a extra game, and you have to do this only once, as the game will be always selectable.

    Great collection. If you don't own to much of those, it is a no brainer, as it is a great collection, and M2 are the best in recreating those oldschool games. For me, Power Drift made me buy this, but for people who are not that fond of racers, it's a matter of how much games you allready bought seperately.    … Expand

    ('+' is a positive element; '=' is a mediocre element; '-' is a bad element)

    + Well selected titles from a broad range of genres, including the racing, shoot-em-up, beat-em-up, puzzle and platformer genres.
    + All included games are remastered to a very high standard, with high quality graphics and excellent 3D functionality, especially in the case of the arcade games, such as Power Drift. The depth of field effect really complement, and even enhances, most games. All of the games looks visually great, with excellent emulation for select titles like Fantasy Zone II (Master System) and Sonic the Hedgehog.
    + The wide array of options to allow all the games to be customised to a degree, such as different sound emulation, alternative rules, or even the type of 3D effect, and so forth, is a nice addition.
    + Games such as Power Drift and Sonic the Hedgehog (amongst others) have stood the test of time exceedingly well.
    + Local play for games such as Puyo Puyo 2 and Altered Beast, which makes the latter slightly more bearable.
    + Bonus points for including Maze Walker, a game which uses the 3D effect well, and Puyo Puyo 2, which hadn't been seen much outside Japan.

    = I wish there could be more games in the collection, however, the range of titles from different genres, as stated before, is enough.
    = The inclusion of both Fantasy Zone II on the Master System and Fantasy Zone II W (the Arcade version) is nice, but perhaps another game could've taken it's spot. I find myself opting to play the arcade version more than the Master System version.

    - Altered Beast and Thunder Blade haven't survived the test of time as well as the other titles.
    - Online play, especially for Puyo Puyo 2, a game which thrives on competition, is a missed opportunity, but not one that ruins the entire experience.

The additional 3D Master System games they added just for this collection are also great & Maze Walker looks especially good in 3D. There's also a hidden Master System game of Fantasy Zone you can unlock by simply touching the screen in the "Extras" menu on the bottom left, making a total of 10 games. 10 great remastered games for a $19.99 physical copy is a great deal.

    Just know that the eShop version is $29.99 for some reason while physical copies are actually cheaper at around $19.99. Physical copies also come with some sweet retro decals, which I decided to stick to my N3DS to give it a bit of flavor. You can also buy some of these games as well as other SEGA 3D classics on the eShop separately for $5.99 each, with the main exceptions being the Master System 3D remakes & Power Drift.    … Expand
