After so many mediocre sequels to the original Crash trilogy, it’s great to see Crash Bandicoot have a worthwhile game again. The difficulty may be hard, but it’s the type of difficulty that kept me trying. I never got truly frustrated at the game since the game gives you the option to play it like the original trilogy (with limited lives and restart level once all are gone) or with a new style (unlimited lives and continue from checkpoints). It’s only super hard if you try to 100% all stages, which is a good challenge for diehard players. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is every bit what a Crash sequel should be and is very comparable to the Naughty Dog installments.

Of all of the remixed Space Invaders games I've played over the past couple of years, Infinity Gene is probably my least favorite. Turning the game into a shmup was a pretty good idea, but the end result is a game that's a bit below average for the genre.

In spite of the game’s assists, I wouldn’t recommend it for someone new to the genre. It will simply be too difficult and frustrating for anyone who doesn’t come into the game with some shmup skills on their resume. Shmup veterans will have a better go of things, but will find themselves challenged for the reasons that I’ve outlined. I wouldn’t call Natsuki Chronicles a “must play” for fans of the genre, but some will find the visuals and ship customization an interesting change of pace and will enjoy checking the game out.

If you’re a fan of splatterfest games where the blood and guts go flying all over the place when you kill enemies, this is a game for you. The overall mayhem is actually one of the best parts of the game. The game is simple and easy to play. The main flaws that I find with the game is its lack of story and the slowdown. The lack of story can be overlooked if you’re just in it for the gameplay though. If you like old school shooters, this is definitely one to check out.

UFC 5 really just doesn’t have enough enhancements to make the game a worthwhile purchase for most gamers. For a game that comes three years after its predecessor, I expected a lot more. I loaded up UFC 4 after playing UFC 5 and it really felt just about the same. The graphical downgrade in UFC 4 was noticeable once I saw fighters up close and especially in career mode cutscenes, but that is about the only thing that UFC 5 does better than UFC 4. The gameplay is still just as good as UFC 4, but UFC 5 is just too much of the same overall. Hardcore fans of this series will benefit the most from UFC 5, but I know hardcore fans wouldn’t even be reading this review – they already have the game and are happily playing it and could care less about what I have to say. For the rest of us though, UFC 5 just feels like a mediocre upgrade that isn’t really worth its asking price.

Overall MotoGP 24 is a really good motorcycle racing game. I don’t know how it compares to the rest of the series, but I hear many other gamers commending it. Just like all racers, it has a learning curve, so you’ll be crashing a lot at the start, but once you get over that hurdle, the game is quite satisfying. If you're a Tropico fan from the old days, expect more of the same except with prettier graphics and make your decision based on that. If you're the type of sim player that enjoys building large SimCity style metropolises, Tropico probably isn't for you as you won't be building any San Juans in the game. Lastly, for everyone else, the slow pace of the game and the time it takes to get a working economy will probably try your patience too much.

The Puzzle Fighter mechanics work great, the cast of characters is awesome (even if I didn't know some of them) and there are plenty of modes and options to keep the game going. Dicefolk is really all about the battles. If you’re looking for a full RPG experience, you’ll probably be disappointed. There’s not much to the story and very little world-building. However, strategy gamers are in for a treat. The unique battle mechanics provide for plenty of tactical depth, and there’s enough of a random element to keep you on your toes and make the battles more than just puzzles to be solved. The rogue-like elements and the randomness between runs work to keep things fresh. If you enjoy tactical games, but are a little burned-out on the turn-based RPG battle format, take Dicefolk out for a roll.

DOOM left an amazingly good impression, and became my favorite shooter since... hmmm... Black or the Killzone trilogy? That sounds right; first-person shooters or games that are violent simply for violence's sake fell out of my favor in my 20s, so it is rare than one gets anything more than a passing "meh" from me. But DOOM is really something special. It's faster than 95% of the shooters I've played, and more intense than nearly all of them. The exploration, huge stages and mountains of collectibles and upgrades set it aside from the average "kill everything, move on" shooters, and the glory kills make dispatching bad guys as satisfying a treat as it's ever been in any other game before it. The in-game map is a huge pain and the multiplayer is a GB-hogging snoozefest, but those are literally the only downsides I see. Every adult Switch owner except for the most squeamish, should have DOOM in their cartridge slot or installed on their SD card. In a whirlwind year for the Switch and AAA releases, DOOM stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the big boys, and missing out on it would be a crime.
