Little Nightmares II excels at creating a creepy atmosphere through its twisted nightmare dreamscape. You’ll feel compelled to keep pushing forward, as much to help Mono escape from this world as to discover the mystery behind the Signal Tower. Death awaits around every corner, but I felt that each death was a learning experience more than it was a source of frustration. After each one, I learned a little something, be it when to swing a pipe, where to make a jump, what to avoid knocking over, or that loose floorboards are probably a trigger for a trap. And with each death I picked myself up and pushed further on, because I had to see how this nightmare ended.

I enjoy the challenge of rogue-like games, but Gods Will Fall feels more frustrating than it does challenging. The game’s design really stacks things against you, to the point where it just doesn’t seem worth the effort. You’re better off seeking challenging gameplay entertainment elsewhere.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World The Game - Complete Edition has just about everything going for it that beat’em up action fans like to see. Just watching someone play the game makes it look incredibly fun, but once you play it yourself and notice the sluggish controls and random bad hit detection (among other problems), it dampens the experience. The game still holds up quite well as a ten-year-old beat’em up action game however. If you’re hungry for a new beat’em up and have already played Streets of Rage 4 and Castle Crashers then Scott Pilgrim is worth a shot since it is definitely a unique game despite its problems.

The developers made sure to keep the overall fighting experience as the main focus and it moves at around 60fps most of the time. So long as you have a good controller or can use the joycons with fighting games really well, this is a decent version to play. Of course, the main highlight of the Switch version is the fact that it is portable, so you can play it on the go unlike any other console version. The online portion of the game is hard to review – since you’re playing on Switch, which is wi-fi focused, it’s hard to say whether the slowdown is from the connection or the actual netcode. I do get some matches that play pretty smoothly and some that have tons of slowdown, so it’s very up and down when it comes to online.

Call of the Sea is an enjoyable adventure. The story and setting are refreshingly different from what you’ll find in other games this season, and the puzzles are challenging enough to require some thought but not so much so to be frustrating. If you enjoy puzzles, you’ll enjoy your trip to the South Pacific.

Crash Bandicoot 4 is a worthy addition to the Crash legacy. It captures the spirit, fun, and challenge of the original games, and adds a lot more that genuinely makes the experience even better rather than simply padding out the gameplay. The game is certainly challenging and the levels could probably use a few more checkpoints, but the number in the game is truer to the spirit of the originals than modern gaming standards. A little perseverance will get you through the game, but it’s going to take a little work if you want to be a Crash completionist. Overall it’s a great platform game that perfectly blends the old and the new into a fun new experience.

This game feels just like you’re playing through the anime series at a more rapid pace. Besides Dragonball Fighter Z, it’s the first game I’ve seen to capture the feel of the series so very well and with a good bit of quality. Dragonball Z: Kakarot is a great companion piece to the old DBZ series. Whether you’re new to the series, are watching it right now or have seen it back in the past (like me) then there is something here to enjoy for you. Fans will get the most of the game, but newcomers will get introduced to the series rather well.

While I did enjoy some of the puzzles, I wish they were more challenging and employed a greater variety of mechanisms. Personally, I’d rather spend time thinking about how to solve a puzzle rather than looking for the triggers that I know are needed to solve the puzzles. Overall, though, there’s plenty of gameplay here wrapped in a good story and imaginative environment to please most fans of open world action games. It’s hard not to have fun with a game that has so much fun with itself.

The game suffers from a few minor problems, but this is not going to keep a fan of Frictional Games from enjoying it. Sadly, Rebirth has no replay value other than enjoying the story again. It does have three endings, which you can see all the endings from the final save point. Fans of The Dark Descent will most likely enjoy this release just as much since it continues the story from that game and it still feels very much like an Amnesia game.

Overall, 9 Monkeys of Shaolin is a very solid beat’em up. The only true flaw that I find is that, even with all the variety, the game can still get repetitive at times. It can feel a bit overwhelming once you start to unlock the modifier attacks because of all the different buttons you’ll be pressing, but there are combinations that seem to be the “go to” combinations for most battles – mainly hard-hitting armor breaking attacks. I definitely recommend this game to fans of beat’em ups or anyone that enjoys games that take place in ancient China (Dynasty Warriors fans!).

If you’ve played Slayaway Camp, Killer Puzzle feels extremely similar to that game, but with updated graphics and much more gore. The game does have a PG mode for those that don’t care about all the gore. Besides the main story, there is also a Daily Kill and a Survival mode. The Daily Kill gives you a new puzzle stage every day and the Survival mode challenges you to get as many kills as you can. I highly recommend this game to horror fans and puzzle fans. Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is an applaudable improvement over its original and an awesome arcade racer. While the complete lack of licensed music and voice acting endows an empty feeling, charming visuals and tons of callbacks should whet your animation-loving appetite. If you can’t wait to get your hands on Jump Force and you only own a Switch this version is nearly just as good as the other versions. It’s actually impressive that the game didn’t have any dropped content to make it to Switch, but it all seems intact. I would think many Switch owners would play this game in handheld mode, so you most likely won’t even notice that much of a difference in the overall graphics compared to the other systems. The game clocks in at around 4-5 hours long total. It has a total of 4 acts with many stages in each act. The game can be played locally with up to 3 others players. I didn’t get a chance to try it with another player, but it definitely looks more fun with a partner. Sadly, there is no online co-op option. The game can rarely be fun, but overall I found it quite dull for the most part. The game is a mixture of dull and frustration. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a revitalization of a game that remains vivid, addictive, and comfortably familiar. While it lacks the immersive touch of something like Skyrim, The Witcher, or Fable, the split-up areas of the Faelands are still fun to explore. However, the main draw remains the irresistible combat, which has now been refined to its full glory. I enjoy going online and taking on other players, but for me playing Sunday’s games during the week leading up to them, and replaying games to change their disappointing real-world outcomes, has always been a big part of the enjoyment of the game. Honestly, talking a lot about ZAAM is giving away too much about it and for a game that is so short, it’s best to try it out for yourself, especially for a game with a bargain price upon release. Even with a short length, the game gets a lot accomplished in the way of exploration and story. There are many files to collect that give you backstory and the events that unfold as you find key items will piece together your memories and overall backstory. The game has multiple endings as well. It’s definitely worth a play-through for the curious and those that enjoy a good story.

The updated version of Destroy All Humans certainly looks a lot better than the original did on two-generation old hardware, but it really needed the gameplay to be updated as well. Artificial challenge created by horde-tactic mobs of enemies, a clunky skills and weapons system, repetitive gameplay, and claustrophobic open world levels all work against the graphics to really show the game's age. The game's premise still holds up today, so it's a shame that the gameplay was left stuck in the past.

Maid of Sker has a feel all its own to it. It's not a mind-blowing game, but everything seemed to go together very well by the time it ended. The game is actually one of few games this year that I would replay to experience again. It sort of chugs along at the beginning but once things start to unravel, it's hard to put down. The game has many files that were actually interesting to read - it seems strange to commend a game for its files, but too many other survival horrors have files that don't contribute much to the main plot and feel useless to read. The core of the game - the aiming and shooting - just isn't up to par. Your ship moving at the pace of a mail truck in a crowded neighborhood doesn't help either. While technically competent and somewhat well-written, Star Horizon just doesn't live up to the games it is meant to celebrate, though if there was a Star Horizon 2 on the, um, horizon, I'd sign up for it. The spirit is there, and it is amusing, but something just doesn't work. In the case of The Simpsons, we don't really know what happened; in Profane's case, we know it was being a slave to the clock that took a great thing and killed it, in this reviewer's eyes at least. Anyone who enjoys a good shmup, though, would be remiss to miss the opportunity to play this game. You'll love that Freedom Finger isn't just another bullet hell clone and that it will really challenge your skills.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is a compact title with a lot going for it. The game is arguably a runner-up for the best Call of Duty story and the enhanced visuals punctuate every jaw-dropping sequence. Overall, this is a powerhouse blockbuster worth the return to duty.

The Puzzle Fighter mechanics work great, the cast of characters is awesome (even if I didn't know some of them) and there are plenty of modes and options to keep the game going. The infrequency of spark crystals hurts the fun as much as the burst moves help it, and in the end you have a pretty damn decent puzzler in Crystal Crisis.

Resident Evil Resistance is a surprisingly terrific topper to its base game package. It is one of the only multiplayer games where teamwork is genuinely essential. Not only that, but playing as the Mastermind is a truly unique and empowering experience. Accessible, layered, and blood-pumping, this is a marvelous multiplayer foundation that will only get better.

These are two very fantastic games that need to be played by action fans. Bayonetta is the star of the show with its flawless execution and Vanquish is a damn good game, but its slowdown in its cutscenes keep it from being a flawless upgrade. Either way, this collection is a great representation of the best that Platinum Games has developed. If you want to see their best work, then look no further!

Sure, you'll spend some time watching in hope and fascination as your hero goes bouncing around the board, but you'll actually have some control over what happens thanks to the character skills. As an added bonus, everything comes wrapped in fun cartoon graphics and a sense of humor. If you enjoy arcade puzzlers, you'll definitely want to take Roundguard for a spin.

By the end of the game, it's easy to tell that there was a lot of love put into this game for the overall concept and story alone. Even with all the flaws, it's still a game that I enjoy deep down, but I cannot deny all the annoyances that I had in trying to stay focused on completing it.

The artwork in the game is all surreal and it is really impressive, both in terms of artistry and imagination. The music in the game fits the feel of the artwork perfectly, and really enhances the game's mood. I found the game to be simultaneously challenging and relaxing, a really good game to unwind with at the end of the day. Watching the artwork come together and reveal itself is a delight, and I more than once fell under the spell of summit fever and spent more time with the game than intended as I pushed to get to the point where the last piece snapped into place. I enjoyed my time with the game, and if you enjoy puzzle games you probably will, too.

Close to the Sun is decent, but I can't help but feel that the game could been so much more. The overall atmosphere and especially the sound is fantastic! If you're looking for a game with a decent engaging story, you might like this one, but don't play it expecting the next Outlast or Bioshock.

Assassin's Creed: The Rebel Collection provides a lot of gameplay for your money, even though overall Rogue feels a lot like Black Flag reskinned and moved to a new setting from a gameplay perspective. Battle for Neighborville's goofy, cartoonish world makes it a shooter appropriate for younger gamers, but don't dismiss it as a kids' game. The gameplay will please most shooter fans, and it's good to have an option that doesn't take itself too seriously and in which the players are focused on having a fun time. It's a great change of pace for when you want a more laid-back but still fun shooter experience.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with the game. I loved the art style and music, and while the stories are very short, they are varied and interesting. This game certainly won't appeal to everyone, particularly those who prefer a lot of action over narrative, but it is easily recommendable for those who enjoy something unique and different from time to time. I found that the soulful music and some of the stories would stick with me long after I was done playing the game for the day, and there aren't a lot of games that can accomplish that.

The PS4 Remastered Edition moves super smooth throughout its gameplay segments. The visuals are clear and run at a high framerate all the time. Overall, I feel the game comes out as being equal on both versions since the Switch version has the added bonus of being portable. You really can't go wrong with either version. Just ask yourself, will you be playing it on a HDTV or on the go? Either way, buy it and experience it for yourself because you will be pleased either way.

The overall controls are your basic Dark Souls setup - strong and weak attacks, dodge, abilities and a parry. If you're a fan of Dark Souls, you're not guaranteed to like Code Vein, but you will immediately fall right into its gameplay since it's nearly the same. Code Vein focuses more on narrative through cutscenes compared to Dark Souls hidden lore among the items that you find. Code Vein is quite enjoyable if you're in the mood for a good story mixed with some decent Dark Souls gameplay. I had a lot of fun with it despite its problems.

If you want to play Overwatch, the Switch shouldn't be your first platform of choice, and if you're looking for a way to play Overwatch on the go, you're still going to be limited to high-speed access points. Imprecise controls and graphical slowdowns are other issues that you'll need to contend with, but at its core the games is still a fun team-based shooter, and if the Switch is your only option to play it you will probably have fun with it overall.

You can almost view WARSAW as a game in the mold of Oregon Trail, a game in which the difficulty in succeeding brings home the lesson of how difficult it was for the people who actually had to live through those times. It's hard to recommend the game to anyone except those looking for a brutal challenge or those with an interest in the historical event represented by the game.

While Star Wars Pinball is all pinball, the number of available tables and modes make for a good variety of gameplay. It's a perfect game for the Switch, providing you with bite-sized to hours long play while on the go, and connected play options while you're at home and logged into your WiFi. The game is a real treat for Star Wars fans, but even those with only a casual interest in the saga will find themselves enjoying the excellent pinball action.

The Spec Op mode is challenging and I like that it gives you so many tactical options, but at times it can feel a little too much like a horde mode. Multiplayer is as solid as ever, and the new tech enabled by the new game engine brings the graphics and sounds of the game to a whole new level. Gunfight and Ground War are great new additions to the mix, and now you can easily find a mode that fits both your playstyle and the amount of time that you have available to play.

The game is a lot of fun and its perfect for a system that can be used in handheld mode. This is the type of game that you'll definitely want to take on trips for some fast pick up and play type of action. Zombie Driver gets repetitive at times, but it's always fun to come back to. It's definitely a worthy pickup for shooter fans and fans of vehicular combat. I'd also recommend this to Dead Rising fans since it provides a similar type of zombie killing addiction that Dead Rising offers - only without the melee weapons and dress-up of course.
