Gryphon Knight Epic has a certain nostalgic vibe to it and it delivers a style of gameplay that's in short supply these days, but it fails to nail the gameplay both in terms of mechanics and enjoyment. There are some good ideas at work behind the game, but they need more work to make Gryphon Knight Epic a good game.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth took me by surprise the same way the Digimon TV show did a little while back. The evolution/de-evolution mechanic, the Japanese voice track and the surprisingly mature and deep storyline were my favorite aspects, but the game really has almost no weakness or faults.

The game is enjoyable, the maps and characters are expertly designed, and the controls are tight and responsive, even on PCs that are not at the bleeding edge of technology. However, it's currently priced at the same level as a top-tier, AAA title, even though it delivers a fraction of the content that you'd expect from a game at that price level.

All things considered, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is about as close to perfect as it gets, and deserves all the attention (hopefully) garnered by this release. It was a godly SRPG eight years ago, and the improvements, though limited, for this remaster make the already achieved perfection even better.

Taking everything into consideration, I'd have to say that while I like the novelty of the ghost enemies mimicking the player's actions, once that novelty wears off you begin to notice the cracks and things begin to feel repetitive. Mayan Death Robots certainly has its fun moments and there are some good ideas here that make it more than just another artillery game, but the execution is not quite there.
