Although Rabi-Ribi presents itself as a light-hearted adventure about chibi animals, it’s actually a frantic, bullet-hell RPG under the hood. It might be the best modern Metroidvania title we've seen in years.

If the story is nonsensical, the fighting and platforming are great fun.

The mix of Metroidvania style gameplay and bullet hell boss fights is novel and interesting. I did enjoy the boss fights, but the stretches in between weren't as much fun.

They also have related merchandises that are up for grabbing if you want to be a real UPRPRC gangsta.

With that said, it's a bullet hell game. So unless you're experienced (played Touhou series or anything that features bullet hell) or determined to get good, I don't recommend trying any difficulty beyond Hard.

This is a "bullet hell" game with a Metroidvania design.

If you like difficult bullet hell games where you're dodging a thunderstorm of bullets non-stop for 20 minutes at a time during a boss battle, Rabi-Ribi will be amazing. If you like Metroidvania games, you might want to pass. The main mode of this game actually discourages MV-style exploration. It's more focused on dodging while chipping away at enemies.

    Pros:
    - Cute MV-style world
    - The BG music for each area is awesome
    - Awesome bullet-hell boss battles
    - Excellent freedom of choice (all items are optional) and backtracking
    - Offers many difficulty levels and you can switch between them; normal mode is quite forgiving

    Cons:
    - The story is absolute nonsense and extremely-weak
    - The characters are too psychotic to be cute
    - Collecting items is a double-edged sword that levels up enemies
    - Certain bosses sequences are really long
    - Post-game content is insanely difficult

clever and fresh take. the music is great. the bullet hell aspect to combat is fun, but I'd hate to try this on a harder difficulty settingclever and fresh take. the music is great. the bullet hell aspect to combat is fun, but I'd hate to try this on a harder difficulty setting (those who have made it to the end should understand this well). at the same time, it's not necessarily a game I want someone to walk in on me playing. Jokes aside, the fan service here is almost G rated, but I'm not one for anime-style stories anyway, so I barely paid attention. I actually played this game because someone on Metacritic who gave Breath of the Wild a zero gave this game a 10, so I just had to satisfy my curiosity. Petty as that dude might have been, I want to thank him for drawing my attention to a game I would have definitely passed over otherwise. Solid title for adventure-platformer lovers. Expand
