As a huge MCU fan my whole life, I am very surprised how bad the rating for this movie was. Yeah, yeah, it was slow at first however had to be done to introduce the new characters and new hero’s into this franchise. Are you going to shame ‘doctor strange and the multiverse of madness’ just because it will be a spin on a horror movie. You have already shamed WandaVision being a sitcom at first. YOU NEED TO OPEN UP YOUR MIND SET. The Eternals was a great movie with a great spin to it mixing a history type gum into the MCU. The story line was really good and the development of each character was amazing.The use of how they went to past day to present day was an amazing idea and told the story really well. A a true MCU fan I am proud to say this was a good film and doesn’t deserve the low scores they got today! THANK YOU… Expand

I challenge anyone to find a better film that depicts the existential crisis of a pantheon Godlike beings. These are the creative swings that people have been clamoring for the MCU to take, and they knocked it out the park. With audiences having less prior knowledge of these characters than any other in the MCU, the largest main cast, and no definitive main character, I would argue that this is the strongest ensemble cast in the MCU. The pacing allowed the film to truly feel like an epic, while mixing in two intertwined mysteries presented early in the film and revealed at the perfectly placed denouement. Chloe Zhao's use of scenic wide landscape shots for many of the action sequences puts the audience in the eyes of a mortal spectator viewing a clash of gods from a safe distance. Never before has a film made me ache for the chance to see the long lost wonders of the ancient world, which were brought to life as living breathing cities, and not just fancy CGI backdrops. The film has been met with mixed reviews, but I think that like many films before it, time will have many detractors reversing their opinions.… Expand

I can't connect the dot... don't see how it move the current MCU timeline... felt very disconnected and separated. Eternals as the almighty demi gods are not that powerful actually... Thor can beat all of them easily.

It took them thousands of years to eliminate the Deviants. Thor and Hulk can do same things in 5 years easily. Eternals should not exist in the MCU... but seeing it as a standalone movie without thinking how it relates to MCU... I really like the movie.

It's a high concept movie similar to Dune where it centers around theologies... kinda biblical approach in telling the story of how the universe and human beings were created and evolve. I also believe the writers are afraid to delve deeper in the theologies aspect because they need to put this movie within the MCU and this made the movie feel uneven and all over the place.

Overall I enjoy the movie... the fight scenes are amazing and THIS IS ANGELINA JOLIE movie... I don't care about other characters.. if Marvel decide to write off the movie from MCU because of the worst MCU reviewed movie status... I don't care BUT Thena should live on in the MCU... she have the best power set among the Eternals. If you approach this movie thru MCU thoughts, I don't think you gonna like the movie but it still a recommendation from me 7/10.

Black Knight is a great Marvel character... can't wait to see Jon Snow become The Black Knight. In the comics he's also a member of The Avengers.… Expand

It's pretty standard in terms of Marvel housekeeping. The overall scope is the same. I think what people mostly take issue with is the fact that it doesn't do much in the ‘cliffhanger of the month' format that Marvel has been known for since the first Avengers film. It's a pretty standalone story, and it doesn't lend much to the future of the franchise other than the final five minutes of the film and the two end-credits scenes. Overall, I loved the film. Not deserving of the rotten tomato that the critics have collectively given it. The actors were great, and the cinematography as well. Not to mention a couple of milestones were hit in the inclusion department. Entertaining, funny, action-packed. What more do you need in this genre? I think the film in time will be among some of the more divisive entries in the MCU. But after two decades of similar fare, isn't it refreshing to get something a bit different? Who am I kidding, most audiences want the same format and concept delivered to them with very little wiggle room for experimentation to the formula and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Make no mistake, this is very much a Marvel film. With stakes and action sequences that remind us of why we love this franchise and its ilk so much. But this makes for a more emotional action move (if such a thing exists) and that's enough to drive some people completely bonkers. If the latter is you, maybe this isn't the film for you. But kudos to the director and the filmmakers and Kevin, of course, for having the cajones to embark on something as ambitious and different as this film, even though in the grand scope, it's not all that different from the larger MCU as some would have you believe.… Expand

Heading in a different direction from what we have seen previously, Eternals brings the MCU into a new realm of story-telling that breaks away from the typical Marvel formula. A standout aspect of this film is truly its diversity with Chloé Zhao and the rest of the team behind this film truly pulling together a truly beautiful and diverse narrative which speaks to the heart moreso than it does the mind. After years of formulaic movies, Eternals takes the MCU in a new, more mature direction and it is refreshing to see. Chloé Zhao definitely succeeded in bringing a fresh perspective into the MCU diverging from a story that is driven purely by the action and thrill of it all, to give us a story that has heart and love behind every aspect. As expected, this film was a visual masterpiece, where everything that we see manages to work alongside the story being told. The acting was amazing with Gemma Chan truly standing out and capturing the heartfelt essence that is driven by this film. Also, just to mention Angelina, a growing favourite of mine, who truly took the helm in each and every one of her scenes, bringing to life this strong and powerful warrior. The story itself definitely meets what it set out to achieve, however, it is also the key downfall point of the movie. Though it carries a lot of weight, the aspect where the movie fails is where they tried to incorporate maybe a bit too much story without truly figuring out how to go about making it fit into one cohesive puzzle. Overall, it was still an incredible watch and I cannot wait to watch it again. I would definitely go about saying that it makes it into my personal top 10 favourite Marvel movies!… Expand

However Eternals is a bag of garbage. The movie doesn't make any sense. No one cares about any of the characters. Marraki is the best character and doesn't have any time to shine. This movie really tries to push several agendas and does a poor job at doing that. No one cares if the Deviants are the bad guys or if Ikaris is the bad guy. WFT, Ikaris flies off into the sun for what purpose??? Does anyone care when Ajak is found dead? Nope! Does anyone understand when Thena goes on a rager? Nope! I can't stand it when these people live for 7000 years and then get easily picked off in the present day. Disney claims to be a family friendly company but apparently cares more to promote an agenda rather produce a superhero film. Everyone in this film should ask Bezos if they can get shot into space and try to find the remaining Celestials.… Expand

Way to slow of pacing. In order for their to be a good team up movie, there should be solo movies for the main characters and then tie them into a larger movie. The Eternals failed to do this. Frankly, I'm shocked.

Perhaps its because I had my expectations set so low, or maybe I'm just a sucker for a universe-building movie, but I can honestly say that I absolutely adore this film. After seeing the mass criticism of "Eternals," IFrankly, I'm shocked.

Perhaps its because I had my expectations set so low, or maybe I'm just a sucker for a universe-building movie, but I can honestly say that I absolutely adore this film. After seeing the mass criticism of "Eternals," I did expect to enjoy the film from an audience standpoint, just not a critical one. But, ever since I left the theater, I've been scratching my head trying to figure out why this film has been so bombarded with negative reviews.

For starters, the film dives into some remarkably deep topics that I haven't seen in many movies, especially nothing from the MCU. Most deep conversations and emotional connections in cinema deal with love, death or discrimination. Eternals manages to pull in the audience's attention by showing us the beauty of life as we know it, something director Chloé Zhao does amazingly. The film doesn't feel like an MCU episode, and I'm honestly glad it didn't. THIS is where Marvel begins branching out to create beautiful new ideas.

Something that really stood out to me was Thena's arc. Yes, it was well written, but we mainly have Angelina Jolie to thank for Thena's emotional rollercoaster. Jolie proves once again just how well she can put on a preformance, and thus Thena's journey ends up being one of the most beautiful parts of the film. Likewise, you could make a case for almost any of the Eternals to end up as your favorite.

Perhaps the film's one flaw, being a little more humor than necessary, holds it back from being a perfect addition to Marvel, but even those humorous moments add a lively atmosphere to the scenes.

There isn't much more I can say without spoiling any major plot points, but as of my first viewing, I'm quite shocked at how beautiful, tragic and well done this film is. I'm disappointed to see the negative reception it's received.… Expand

This is pretty much a discount Zack Snyder movie, with the worst traits of those movies but without any of the good ones. The movie is boring, badly acted and, for a 200 million dollar production, it looks like a Netflix Original.

Marvel got high on their success of Endgame and thought they could turn any turd into gold. Maybe with a better direction they could have gotten something out of this, but as it is now it's a movie not even Disney shills can defend with a straight face. Probably the most gorgeous movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, virtuosically staged (congratulations to Chloe Zhao), every actor/actress fits his/her role perfectly, and they all deliver poignant performances. There are numerous deep emotional moments, in addition to all these striking epic sequences that obviously find their climax in the later parts of the movie (entwined with a heartbreaking dramaturgy that amplifies the emotional impact of it all). The score is a true gem and the entire production is a pure delight. Not a "Space Opera", but a "Mythological Opera"...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is breaking the typical Marvel mold and that’s okay. It is breathtaking in every since. With ten main heroes and the building of a whole new world within the current MCU, it was so well done. It goes back to one undercurrent of Marvel is that humans are good and deserve to exist, no matter their flaws and errors. The semi-lead character is played Gemma Cham & she is the soul of the movie. Every leader of the Eternals is a woman of color and they command respect. It also flips the script, similar to Captain Marvel, where the semi-lead man who turns against the other characters goal. How they frame where they are in various parts of human history is magnificent, it breathes life into our stories of the past, good and bad. It is funny but not as much as other established MCU storylines but the first round of character-establishing movies weren’t all comedy. I loved it and I can’t wait to see more from these heroes. Loves it. Marvel movies were starting to get a bit boring to me tbh, but eternals changes that. It was an amazing movie! Definitely one of my favorite ever marvel movies! Loved the diversity and just the story all together. Made me laugh , cry and kept me on the edge of my seat! It was an enjoyable movie that did a nice job extending the MCU into new directions. I don't know what all the hate is about. It was well crafted, well acted, and full of interesting lore. It was about all new characters so there was a lot to learn all at once, but I felt Zhao did a good job introducing them, and by the time it was done I wanted to spend more time with some of them for sure.

Much better than the average critic reviews would lead you to believe. I think in a few years, when people look back at this movie they'll be able to appreciate it more. Definitely worth seeing in the theater.… Expand

Sadly, this movie stinks. It has nothing to do with Kirby's work. It only borrows some names and ideas... Dreaming Celestial storyline is the closest thing that bridges this movie to legendary comic. The best play and character is Angelina's Jolie Thena. The rest if forgettable.… Expand

I think this movie was unfairly criticized just for being very different from the other Marvel Studios movies and that seems very bad to me because it is the first time that the studio dared to give us something that is out of their comfort zone.

Chloe Zhao's signature style, execution and editing for Eternals overall doesn't really paid off. This film also has really bad lighting especially when it's dusk or night time (by film visual), sometimes you can't really see who's on the screen especially on action sequences and few of the flashback sequences felt a bit all over the place. Charming characters like Kingo who should've been the comic relief was sidelined by his assistant instead so Kumail's performance was a bit underwhelmed and had no motivations. Ma Dong Seok/Don Lee's performance felt a lot better than Kumail's and few characters in the film had that 'one tear only' moment. Angelina Jolie's Thena was also underused, her character has more actions than interactions because of her fictional disease and Sersi had more motivation than emotions or any expression while Makkari, Druig, and Sprite are in the spotlight for fleshing those points out.

SPOILERS:
The third act has great plot twists and character conflicts that impacts a Galactus-scale threat and a huge cliffhanger at the end of the film, which was shocking and satisfying to witness. The first post credit scene ignites an exciting bond between the Eternals and a cool new character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.… Expand

I enjoyed it. I can't really comment on the reports of bad pacing or bad writing etc. all I know is, I didn't feel any major issues and I like what I saw. It definitely takes the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a different place than it's been. Widespread implications and a different view on some of the core concepts that are bigger than global.

Well, this is indeed one of the most unique Marvel films, but that doesn't take away the fact that there's nothing special here. It's overwhelming to get to know almost a dozen new characters, some of which are very uninteresting. It's overwhelming to get to know almost a dozen new characters, some of which are very uninteresting. And, I don't know, but I found Sersi obnoxious.

And don't get me wrong, I'm all about representation, but we all know Marvel and every company in the world get into it just to don't look bad. As for the structure, 'Eternals' plays in the same ballpark as every other MCU film: a bunch of dudes dressed like Power Rangers fighting the bad guy to save the world. Oh, and for the bad guy I mean the deviant monster that had no purpose at all. Chloé Zhoe may have tried to add some depth to the characters, especially with all that about belonging and growing up, but nothing we haven't seen before in a superhero movie.

And, worst of all, this is two and a half hours long! There was no justification for it.… Expand

I really enjoyed Eternals. The narrative and world-building were great. Coupled with unprecedented imagery for both quiet scenes and action scenes. Indeed, one can argue that some dialogue was repetitive and not really necessary, but for theI really enjoyed Eternals. The narrative and world-building were great. Indeed, one can argue that some dialogue was repetitive and not really necessary, but for the main characters, Ikaris and Sersi, delving into their world through dialogue is inevitable. Sure, it's a long movie that requires us casual viewers to unpack a lot. In fact, you meet 10 characters plus a small love story plus several historical scenes, which has to be digested at first, but in my opinion, is very well done and presented. The chemistry between the characters as a family was easy to see. It's also funny, I really had to laugh at some of the scenes. The final fight was really awesome, as also mentioned by some in the panel. In a nutshell:
Storytelling and Worldbuilding: 3/5 Story: 3.5/5 Action: 3.5/5 Visuals: 5/5 sound design: 5/5 character design: 4/5 Fun: 4/5 Implications for the current MCU: 5/5

So, it's a solid 4 out of 5 ≈ 80%.
