Finally! This is the type of movie I’ve been waiting for from the MCU. The movie had me glued. Even though there are 10 characters, I feel like Chloe Zhao was able to portray each character phenomenally without it feeling like it’s too muchFinally! I am honestly in shock- Am I missing something? Do I have bad taste? Because honest to God, I really enjoyed this movie and its not the worst MCU movie by a long, long shot. This movie has been thrown so much hate that I went with lowI am honestly in shock- Am I missing something? Do I have bad taste? Because honest to God, I really enjoyed this movie and its not the worst MCU movie by a long, long shot. This movie has been thrown so much hate that I went with low expectations and came out extremely surprised.

For starters, is this movie really that different to other Marvel movies? Because to me, it fits quite naturally to the normal shemes and formulas of the others; with serious tones accompanied of funny breaks to lighten up the experience. Kumail Nanjiani´s character in this regard is a complete stand out along side his cameraman with scenes that honestly made me laugh quite frequently.

The characters for that matter, are all really fun to watch, all with unique habilties and personalities that make the dinamics between them quite interesting. I loved how they differ from one another and not all of them are crystal blue perfect. The big threat of the movie for instance involves a big moral consideration that not all of them can agree upon. In this regard, the movie does cover new unforseen ground in the MCU - I think my girlfriend said it best: This heroes are no loger straightforward in their believes and purpose but in this case morally gray, and that was very cool to follow.

Additionally, Eternals is beautiful to look at. Director Chloe Zhao is known for her beautiful direction and ability to portray big and expansive landscapes and such was still the case with this movie. Some of the scenes, specially the ones involving some past events with past civilizations where jaw dropping to look at.

Whatsmore, the action scenes were extremelely cool. Imagine a group of 10 very powerful people with very different powers all using their unique habilities in tandem againts an enemy or even against eachother- it all looks just as cool as it sounds. Standouts here are Angelina Jolie's Thena with spectacular acrobatics(she looks really cool), Lauren Ridloff´s Makkari with probably the coolest scenes and effects we have seen portrayed on a speedster-like character and Richard Madden´s Superman like character that just looks really cool.

Finally, this is probably the one movie with the biggest implications for the MCU universe as whole outside of Endgame; expanding even further our undestanding of how these worlds exist, work and the overall bigger threats that lurk within. For the first time in Phase 4 I feel excited for whats to come outside of our regular earthly heroes.

I really do not know what happened with the critics this time around. I say, go watch it.… Expand

This impressive cast manages to pull off the performances with conviction and director Chloé Zhao has allowed them plenty of room for interactions. There are also some beautiful visuals. However, all of this drama comes at a price: pace. Even though there are decent action scenes peppered thru the plot, these slow moments get a bit tiresome, esp. at a 2:37 run time. This iteration is notable for several hero firsts, including one who's openly-gay (with a kiss), a hearing-impaired woman and several who are not Caucasian.
NOTE: As usual with Marvel, stay thru the title credits for a surprise new character and thru the final credits for a mysterious teaser.… Expand

I don’t know why this movie is getting such poor reviews. I’ve seen each and every Marvel movie and to say that this one is the worst is ridiculous. Clearly everyone totally forgot about Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 2 or either of the HulkI don’t know why this movie is getting such poor reviews. I’ve seen each and every Marvel movie and to say that this one is the worst is ridiculous. Clearly everyone totally forgot about Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 2 or either of the Hulk movies. Eternals is overlong, that much is true. It takes waaaay too long to get everyone together and there are exposition scenes that could be cut in half or completely eliminated. And the ending was muddled. I still don’t entirely understand how they killed that eternal. But otherwise, the movie is fine. It has a clear plot and fairly well defined characters. I think this movie may suffer from over expectations. There’s no way this movie is the worst. I’d give it a B or 85 out 100.… Expand

Not sure what the majority is thinking with the bad reviews. it's far from being Thor: The Dark World. It held my attention the whole way through and i thought the character development was good.

Just a mid movie overall. Boring for the most part, takes too much to get to the good part. It would be a 5 or a 6 if it were created by any other studio, but Marvel should be able to do something better with all their money, so it is a 2.

Eternals is a refreshing film for the MCU. A bunch of well developed new characters and a story which is more elavorate for what we are used to from Marvel. And who was the genius who had the idea to introduce more than 6 main characters, and make the less charismatic one be the protagonist? I don't even remember half the name of the characters....there wasn't enough time to properly flesh them out. The visual quality was astonishing, I have to give them credit for that! but that is pretty much all I can praise the movie for(except Kingo and Theena). The "side villain", if you can call it that, was disappointing. They tried to flesh out the villain, give it proper motivation and heck....they even made it interesting...but they had to make it into a plot device/punching bag. what I'm about to say next is just my subjective opinion(and I could be totally wrong, I'm not educated enough in economy to make a statement): Disney pumped this movie out, instead of making a Disney+ show to make more money. Since they probably get less money trough their service yearly than a movie that takes a couple of months to film… Expand

There's an ethereal feel to the film and the Eternals although we're superior brought a sense of humanity to the story. Really liked that it doesn't feel comicky. Streamers, this past week had a solid opening that was headlined by Eternals. This behemoth has an ensemble cast of MCU newbies, packed with star power in a new storyline. This behemoth has an ensemble cast of MCU newbies, packed with star power in a new storyline. This movie introduces us to the semi-immortal champions of the Earth that the Earth had forgotten. But now it's time for them to spring back into action. They've been through 7,000 years of humanity's progress to protect them from Deviants that threatened them. But, why did they just let mankind destroy itself along the way when they had the powers to stop it? And the powers to possibly stop Thanos! I know you're intrigued and so was everyone else clamoring for this to come out. Let's see how this stands up to the other Marvel blockbusters.

Ok, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I think Kevin Feige/Marvel/Disney, or whoever, chose the wrong director and writers to lead this project. Chloe Zhao, while pretty masterful in her latest Academy Award winning film Nomadland, I don't believe was the right fit for this film. One of the bigger knocks for Nomadland to me was how boring it was even if it was beautifully shot. She brought that same energy to Eternals. The movie looks very clean, beautiful, nice angles, camera movement, huge scale piece, and ultimately each character has their moment where you can feel the emotion; yet, at 2 and a half hours, the runtime was just simply too long. There were scenes that could be cut or shortened due to the repetitive nature of the story. In my opinion, this same thing happened in Nomadland... I feel like you can get away with that in a drama like Nomadland. You can not get away with that in the MCU. Infinity War and Endgame had a similar runtimes, but they were jammed packed with storylines, set ups, and entertainment. This movie didn't have that especially because the audience is just learning about these characters and ultimately the characters are filled with basic superhero tropes. Shortening this film would have done wonders. Disney should absolutely learn from this movie that a tigther runtime and condensed edit is not a bad thing. I'd be absolutely horrified at the deleted scenes that didn't make the cut. Let's get to the good.

Without the pressure of being part of the MCU, Eternals is otherwise just a very good superhero flick. It's plain and simple. Marvel didn't miss with this film at all, but it will never be held as a top MCU movie. In a way, this movie feels like a vehicle to get us to the next phases of movies and shows from the MCU. It is strange because it's such a big film with huge Easter eggs and fan fare, especially with the post credit scenes, Kit Harrington, in general, and surprise cameos. Ultimately, you're left feeling a bit like ok what's next. On the other hand, I could've skipped this and probably still been good to move on in the universe. Either way, the movie is beautiful. The cast from Angelina as Thena to Bryan Tyree were all very good. Sprite, you were extra annoying but I'll choose to believe that's just what they were going for. I loved the diversity of the cast and settings. There is tons of chemistry between cast members and every emotion is able to be captured. We laughed, we cried, and we kept hope alive. I'm sure we'll see more from this Eternals group and others.

Long story short, if this weren’t connected to the MCU at all this would just be a good superhero team movie. However, because this is in the MCU and following epic movies like Endgame, it feels like it falls a bit flat. Nevertheless, Marvel fans you have to see this movie for the culture. You’ll enjoy a bowl of popcorn to this but the ending and set up of the universe is definitely a big box. Head to the theaters to see this when you can but absolutely do not miss it when it comes to Disney+, in a few months.… Expand

Let me start by saying that I understand why this is the most polarizing Marvel movie made to date. I won't even try to guess how you as the viewer might feel. Most Marvel movies are made to be broadly appealing. This movie was not. ThisLet me start by saying that I understand why this is the most polarizing Marvel movie made to date. I won't even try to guess how you as the viewer might feel. Most Marvel movies are made to be broadly appealing. This movie was not. This movie has flaws and these flaws will completely ruin the movie for many of you. Others will notice these flaws but will ultimately find the movie enjoyable because it does have many redeeming qualities. It comes down to whether or not the style of the movie is your thing. I happen to be in the category of people who enjoyed it, despite its flaws. Cinematography: Amazing. Soundtrack: Really Solid. Characters: I loved Makkari, Phastos, Kingo, Karun (Kingo's valet), Dane Whitman, Gilgamesh and Druig. I want sure I liked Druig at first but he grew on me and by the end he was one of my favorites. Makkari fight scenes were epic. Best speedster representation ever in my opinion. Thena, Ikaris, Sprite, Sersei and Ajak had their moments but I didn't consistently connect with them. Something felt off about Sersei and Ikaris' chemistry. Dane and Sersei had better chemistry but even some of their back and forth felt stilted Plot: Some good spots, some weak points. Deviants plot line wasn't great. They felt like they didn't really have a purpose other than to be fought. I thought the movie started slow but actually got better throughout. CGI was great throughout with two exceptions: the airplane scene and the 1 character in the mid-credits scene. That was weird… I feel like Eternals will end up being the Avengers Age of Ultron the next phase. It tries to be really big and to do a lot, it pulls some of it off, and it will be really important to the future. This could have been better as two movies, or a TV show, or even if some of the characters had been introduced in prior films. Anything that could have let the story breathe a bit more would have helped. Getting to know this many characters and their motivations all in one movie is a tough task. Some wooden acting and questionable character motivations took me out of the moment a couple times. But I absolutely think the movie accomplished what it set out to do. I enjoyed the slower pacing and emotional/philosophical elements. In short, it's a well-made, entertaining movie that ultimately accomplishes what it sets out to do, even if the path to get there was a little bumpy. Overall: 7.75 / 10… Expand
