I loved it! The characters were all likable, the cast had great chemistry, the actors all did amazing, and the cinematography was gorgeous! Things were a little bit squashed, meaning the characters didn’t all get the amount of deeperI loved it! Plus, the diversity in this film is so important to so many people. As a woman it’s amazing to see women in the lead, and as a gay person I can’t tell you how excited I was when Phastos and his husband, Haaz, kissed (the first in the MCU) I got such a warm feeling in my heart! I look forward to more representation in the future!… Expand

It's pretty amazing how a story about immortal gods can feel more human than most of the MCU's previous offerings. If you came for non stop action its not for you, and if you want a gritty dark exploration of humanity its not that either. What The Eternals offers is a disfunctional family of gods debating whats best for humanity while expanding on the Marvel mythos. Its very ancient Greek pantheon in that way, and if that's the kind of thing you like, you'll love this movie.… Expand

It's disheartening. The cinematography is as amazing as the trailers made it seem but after a while the way the eternals's powers are animated becomes underwhelming. Ikaris's charater is bland. Gilgamesh,athena&ajax are forgettable. It's difficult to connect to them and believe that they've known eachother fot thousands of years. This applies to sersi's holllow but allegedly epic love story for the ages. Chemistry is not their and it strips key scenes of their desired impact. This movie would've benefited from less exposition and more fleshing out. They attempt to cover so much ground that nothing is done by the end. Kit Harrington's character is an after thought and many scenes you saw in the trailer won't appear. Angelina Jole is a shell of herself in this role. Her scenes perfect for if you want to use the bathroom and don't want to miss anything intresting. Another issue is motivations, for people who care so deeply about the human race they seem pretty detached to it. Sprite's character is a frustrating example of incompetence. Their arc made no sense and they didn't even attempt to justify it. But worst of all is the deviants. Kros is wasted potential. Where they could've explored themes of oppression and evolution they provided a throw away side villain. I wanted more from their beyond "im powerful, hungry &vengeful ". Just as we begin to learn more it's cut short in a dissatifying death. The cameras relevance is non-sensical humour kingo could've pulled of alone alongside phastos.

With that said the hate and critical panning is unwarranted(at least to that extent). There's alot of good stuff here . The directing is a higlight as well as the 1st deaf superhero Makkari. If it focused more on her i would've been very satisfied. Her signing dialogue was nice representation and her speed is portrayed the best out of every version of that power on television (expect quicksilver). Druig becomes a predictable fan favourite for the right reasons,he's wonderful. His character feels real and believable. Even whom he chooses to love makes sense. Phastos is handled well enough delivering the right amount of comedic relief. The celestials are a phenomenal sight and are given enough nuance &grandeur to be respected. Sersi's powers are so fascinating to witness. Kingo's confusing narrative injects humanity to the grey movie. I think it will be appreciated more in retrospect mostly for the risk it too more than the quality of the story.… Expand

Definitely a great movie. Interesting story, expanded the Lore of the MCU and opened it to new possibilities, great characters, the best action sequences in MCU, and the Music is amazing. Eternals is one of my favourite MCU movies of all time. The movie does an incredible job of giving the sense that gigantic concepts are being executed on the screen both metaphorically and literally. First of all, before the movie was released, it made a name for itself with the low scores it received in Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. The reason for this was the scores and comments made by the audience at the galas. The reason for this was the scores and comments made by the audience at the galas. I think this situation has caused a prejudice for those who haven't watched it yet. However, there was one thing to remember Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao was in charge of it, and she should be respected. Maybe the fact that it is a movie outside of the usual films of MCU -which is actually not too far away- disturbed the audience or we can say that it affected them differently. The difference from the MCU was that Chloé Zhao showed a lot of her own style.

However, I believe that the effect of this is positive, not negative, and I recommend that those who make cruel comments watch the movie once again.

Green boxes or green rooms were not used during the shooting of the film, shootings were made in various places around the world with a very pleasant view. This, in my opinion, elevates the movie above a normal superhero movie and even puts it on the Oscar radar.

When you think of Chloé Zhao, cinematography come to mind. The cinematography in this film is also very succesful, and we should congratulate the cinematographer Ben Davis on this issue. In the scenes where there is no action, it draws the audience in and flows.

Besides, I can say without exeggeration; The best CGI I've ever seen in my life was in this movie. They even raise the bar so high that I think it's hard to come close to this movie in CGI success. There is also a lot of emphasis on the fight scenes. In many movies, fight scenes are skipped by shaking the camera here and there, zooming in and out, or with simple movements, but in this movie, we experience the fights to the fullest in front of us.

If we need to talk about the sound and music of the film, it can be said that it is a masterpiece. Their music is signed by Ramin Djawadi, whom we know from Game of Thrones, Westworld and Iron Man.

When I saw Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek in the trailer, it didn't seem natural enough to me, the fact that they were too big names made them look fake, but when I watched the movie, I thought it was the opposite. A very large cats in terms of names, meets the expectation, there is more than what we saw in the trailer in terms of humor and it's not overdone.

We are watching a different movie and we are not breaking away from MCU, the balance is very well established. We have to thank Chloé Zhao for this great movie...… Expand

My main concern regarding the Eternals had to do with the huge baggage they carried, and even for Chloé Zhao that turned out to be a barrier that she couldn't overcome.

There are too many explanations in Eternals and that slows the pace quite a bit, coupled with its long duration and lack of action, the film feels too irregular and its progress is stunted.

Yet I also have to mention the things that does right, and that is that, although it's still a Marvel superhero film, Chloé Zhao finally manages to shake up a bit the exhausted introductory formula for new characters that are coming to this cinematic universe.

Although it must be admitted that this is due to the complexity and scale of the story that is being told.
Marvel has opened a door as large as the multiverse by finally directly introducing cosmic entities that are simply larger than anything else the MCU has shown so far.
The possibilities are endless, you just need the ambition and the talent to exploit them.

The most solid point of this film is of course its cast. Even though the most important leading role falls to Gemma Chan, everyone involved is given the opportunity to show off.
Some to a lesser extent than others, but the cast is sufficiently balanced, although the shared humor came to feel too gratuitous after a while.

The visual is simply remarkable. I can't recall another MCU movie that can boast such excellent use of cinematography and lighting as this one.
There are a lot of visual effects, but only at some points the CGI and green screen are truly noticeable and not really problematic. Ben Davis' work is simply outstanding.

For the rest, I can only say that even with its problems, Eternals is yet another solid addition to the ever-growing MCU.
It knows how to balance its strengths and keeps the machinery greased and working.
It's still the same formula, but at least it has a little shake to it, and it doesn't feel so ordinary.
Predictable? Yes. Still entertaining though.

Now it is only necessary to see what plans Marvel will have for these characters considering the ending and the two post-credits scenes.
Time will tell.… Expand

The critics are definitely exaggerating about this one. Almost cried at multiple points in the movie! Hit the spot almost perfectly. LOVED THIS MOVIE WITH PASSION.
The Post-Credits with Blade was literally perfect. Harry Styles in the MCU is a little difficult to fathom.… Expand

The result is a mixed big, one that has many strong points as well as a number of not-so-strong points. To its credit, the film's special effects are quite eye-popping, as is the cinematography featuring images shot (or simulated) from around the world. The picture also features a narrative that refreshingly attempts to break the mold typical of most Marvel Universe releases, incorporating greater degrees of relationship development and genuinely funny comic relief than is often found in these movies. However, the complicated story line is not always fleshed out as coherently as it could be, a problem compounded by uneven character development, assumptions about viewer foreknowledge of the material and a chronic need for editing many sequences that sag in between the good parts. In all, "Eternals" feels very much like a typical Chloe Zhao movie but with a bigger budget -- and one in which her weaknesses as a filmmaker come across more noticeably than in her typical fare. It's apparent from this picture that Ms. Zhao is still developing as a director -- and should be recognized as such instead of given the blank check of accolades often accorded her.… Expand

Beautiful and magnificent new entry for the marvel cinematic universe. Chloe Zhao really nailed the introduction of 10 new awesome and very unique characters that were very well developed. Chloe Zhao really nailed the introduction of 10 new awesome and very unique characters that were very well developed. Celestials were my favorite aspect of the film because of how powerful, jaw dropping and menacing they appear to be. Visuals and action sequences are some of the best in any movie Marvel has released. Very disappointed that once again, critics are rating and reviewing this movie so low and negatively when Eternals is such a great film. Eternals is easily in my top 5 marvel movies and I recommend that everyone goes and experiences this movie in IMAX as I will be rewatching it myself again.… Expand

Dialogue was poor and pedestrian (unlike any of the clever quips we’ve seen in the past movies, lack of character development (how were we supposed to feel any emotional quotient for the characters, esp Ajax’s death?), inappropriate scenes for children (for a movie which caters to huge volumes of children, this is an absolute disgrace), storyline was disjointed and lacked clear flow, and the brother of Thanos - one of the most awesome villains in the Marvel universe - is Eros, played by Harry Styles? This movie was brilliant and full of both heart and humor. This was light years better than Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 2! Not even close. I hated Nomadland, but the director did a stellar job with a very difficult story here.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Eternals is, unfortunately, a failed experiment. It had to happen sooner or later. I'm a fan of the MCU, and frankly sometimes shocked at the overall level of quality they put out, so even when the Eternals trailer looked "off", I still saw it opening night. I'll repeat this is a failed, actually bad movie, and bad in all the completely predictable ways one would guess when pairing a great director with zero big-budget green screen experience and two cousins who've never written a full-length movie. I'm not talking about the content. The problems are technical. Marvel has thus far had good luck pulling in quirky or indy creators and putting them through the machine to come out with great products, but here it had the opposite effect.

They brought in Chloe Zhao to add a sense of realism, organic character work, and naturalistic location shooting. That's great. She tried. However, much of the time it looks like these actors have no idea what or in which direction they should be looking at, or how they're supposed to react. The whole opening had about as much emotion and nuance as a video game cut-scene. This is a directorial failure.

Ultimately you end up with a bunch of characters looking stoic reading lines with odd inflections. It's exactly what you'd guess would happen if someone had never directed around these types of effects, and it's even more apparent when contrasted with great scenes like being introduced to Phastos' family which is warm, serious, and funny all at the same time.

Shooting outdoors is also great, but if whoever is mixing the sound can't get around the wind it'll sound muddy. Using natural light is great, but damn if you're on a schedule and only have so many takes to get things right. This is fine if you have a simple setup, maybe not so much here.

Let's talk about the script and story. The Firpo cousins were brought in. Well, what happens when you hire someone who's never written a feature-length film and ask them to pen an epic that starts at the beginning of time? You get a disjointed mess. Leaving out that the concept of billions of years is specific to earth circling the sun and has little bearing on what a Celestial would think of as time, the entire, and I mean the entire plot hinges on a single line about how celestials need to a specific type of intelligent life to absorb or something to be born?? Why in the **** would this be the case. Please explain further.

Dialogue. This seems like a script a committee of college students would be happy with. I understand there are a lot of characters, but really having everyone say everyone else's name in every scene while reminding us about deviants just shows such a lack of faith in the audience. It also left no space for any actual conversations. In fact, the only character to seem like they had something to say and was enjoying themselves was Kuman the butler.

Further, I'm seeing posts about how this is the first Marvel movie with a sex scene, but seriously showing two character's bare shoulders and having them squeeze out the lines "I love you (full name)" then "I love you (full name)" is maybe one of the least realistic moments in a movie about ancient gods.

Seriously the longer I think about this movie the worse it is, which is such a shame because everyone involved is technically good at what they do, but together with all the money one could ask for, they made an exceptionally bad product. Heck, even the mid-credits scene made no sense. We know this is BlackKnight. We know Excaliber was on the ship, but we also know he didn't get a chance to tell anyone, so how did the sword get to him...

A lot of the negative reviews are preaching some anti-woke/anti-inclusion messaging. That's terrible and the hate is painful to read. That's not anywhere close to where I'm coming from. I'm super happy to have some thoughtful diverse adult drama mixed into my Marvel candy. However, they still need to make a good movie and this wasn't it.

Next time Marvel wants to hire the Firpos... Don't. If you want to hire Chloe Zhao, do it, but find a project actually in line with her skills as opposed to fitting it into a project like this. Oh and by the way I see a lot of people blaming Marvel for how this worked out. Make no mistake this is on her and the writers. Other teams have come in and figured and they really really didn't. Marvel on the other hand has a track record of making it work, and for all the people going to see this hoping somehow to not see a Marvel movie, what the **** are you thinking? Why are you even going to see it if you don't want to see a Marvel movie?… Expand

Easily one of the worst movies of 2021. Sad to see Marvel loosing to DC like that, but maybe it's about time that happened. Marvel's last hope is now Spider-Man, hopefully that delivers. Eternals lost already.

Eternals en mi humilde opinión no es la peor película del UCM dado que en esta interminable lista de películas de superheroes, hay peores cintas que la película ya antes mencionada. Tampoco es entendible toda la mala prensa que ha estado recibiendo, creo que un proyecto tan ambicioso como este iba a despertar tantas malas críticas porque cuando se intenta cambiar un poco el tono,este es el riesgo que se puede correr. Como puntos a favor puedo decir que toda la técnica que manejo la película es magnífica, su fotografía es muy buena (una de las mejores en una película de Marvel Studios), todo el tracklist y el manejo de los colores para cada plano escogido.
Mis personajes favoritos fueron: Ikaris, Serbi y Kingo. Las cosas no tan buenas de esta película para mí fueron: Un poco la duración (Pero en parte es entendible, porque para presentar todos estos personajes se necesita una cantidad inmensa de tiempo), el tema con los desvíantes queda un poco en segundo plano, y la muerte de Gilgarmesh.
En conclusion mi calificación final a esta película es de 7.7… Expand

Fights in this film are extremely dynamic and it's a lot of fun to watch. The only issue that I have is with comedy. Marvel films are known for belittling the drama by making fun of sad moments. Some people like it and some don't. I'd prefer to not have the drama ruining jokes that feel forced. It doesn't happen as often as in many other MCU which is nice. I find that these jokes are mostly funny but the price for them is too high. Also, Ramin Djawadi's score could be my most favorite of all Marvel films. It embodies heroism on a literal god level. Overall, I love Eternals and I hope to see more of them with Chloé Zhao returning to direct.… Expand

It has the humour that other marvel movies have, I liked how it incorporated mythological aspects. Good story, good representation with the actors/characters. Would 100% watch it again! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Eternals is a movie that will get more respect and appreciate over the time. Although I'd personal liked some parts of the movie, it still has some major flaws which pulled this film from being a masterpiece.
I'll go through things that I liked and then move to ones I didn't care about.
Okay, right from the beginning, this movie is just gorgeous. The cinematography is spectacular - every location is unique and unbelievable beautiful. The action scenes, though there were only three of major ones, were great, entertaining and kept me at the edge of seat. The characters were all amazing and the acting was absolutely fantastic across the board. My favourite character in this film was Thena played by Angelina Jolie. Once again Jolie proves that she always understands the assignment. She had the depth that her character needed. Thena's fight scene with Ikaris was just BOMBASTIC! Loved her and all that she did in this movie. My second favourite character is Makkari. Loved her CGI effects and her personality. My third and fourth favorite characters are Sersi and Phastos. Loved them both, especially Phastos at the end, we he was fight against Ikaris with Thena and Makkari. Sersi was great aswell, though I would've loved to see what she is capable of doing and maybe her powers should've been explored more. I also found Ajack to be pretty interesting, but I was disappointed that she died very early in the film. Ikaris was great both as a protagonist and antagonist. I think that he was just too overpowered. Kingo and Gilgamesh were both fine, didn't care about either of them. Sprite was the least character in my opinion. I tried to relate to her, but just couldn't do that, and her love-thing with Ikaris was just uncomfortable to watch. Now let's talk about things that I didn't care about. Sadly, the story is the first thing in this list. It was messy and had too many time jumps which were poorly made. Also it had too much exposition. Plus some of the plot details were just too confusing for a standard MCU viewer aka casual audience. The story also had too much drama and too much talking. The love triangle didn't work at all, because I couldn't see nor believe that there was something between Sersi and Ikaris or Sersi and Dane therefore it completely failed in delivering any emotional weight.
The origin of eternals was just too confusing. The film didn't have enough action scenes to keep movie from being boring and tedious at the times. At the end, even with all its flaws, Eternals is a solid MCU film with gorgeous cinematography and great action scenes. Plus, it succeeded in making diversity a natural part of the movie - nothing was forced and none of the characters were special because of it. I'd say that the film is a 8/10 for me. It unfairly has the lowest RT score, but I hope that the audience will save this film from being a flop.… Expand
