Exactly the kind of game I’ve been craving! Exploration, outpost building, ship customization, combat, and some great visuals/audio. Fast travel options are great when I get home from work and only have a few hours to play. As a working adult if I have 2 hours to play video games, spending 30 minutes of it staring at a screen while I manually fly from point A to B is a waste. I have not once run into a “boundary” for my landing zone. I drop in, do some quests, then drop out. There are some Bethesda bugs… but that didn’t stop me from loving every other Bethesda game out there… and none have been game breaking for me, just chuckle worthy. People need to grow up and just enjoy games for what they are. If this game isn’t for you, that’s okay… not all games are for all people. But if you like sci-fi and Bethesda games give it a try! Check it out on gamepass if you want to get in cheaper than buying!

Don’t listen to angry nerds. They hate everything. Instead trust your own experience. I’m so glad I did!

This feels like 3 different games in one, from the stellar main stories/factions to the expansive base building and ship building. Yes the facial animation are not the best in the gaming scene but this is not the reason people play Bethesda games. If you're a fan of the RPG genre, you'll love what Starfield has to offer. Expand

NPCs look a bit goofy, lots of menus and some loading screens, 30fps but everything else is so amazing that it makes up for these negatives. Yah I wish the space travel was seamless but it’s a space RPG, not a space sim.

The planets are nice to explore and can look really pretty. The factions and questlines are some of the best that Bethesda has ever created and really took that criticism from last games. The gunplay, ship combat, customization is all great and even tho it’s 30fps, it still feels smooth. The companions are well written, well voice acted and may be Bethesda’s best. They really took the RPG aspect criticism to heart and added lots of depth with skill checks, speech checks, choices, good character builds, backgrounds and traits. A huge improvement over Fallout 4 and Skyrim.

In general, it’s a good RPG and a great game. The old Bethesda that we loved is back and clearly put effort so don’t listen to the review bombing or salty PS5 fanboys. Gave me lots of hope for ES6

Overall, such a fun and awesome game!! The game runs great (I play on Xbox Series S), story is unique and intriguing, and there is a great variety of items and weapons. As someone who absolutely loved playing Skyrim, Starfield is an absolute blast! Highly recommend if you are into these open world RPG style games, or if you are interested in starting with this genre of video games.

Somehow even worse than typical bethesda trash. The whole game is about as well optimized as fallout 4 boston and as soon as you install it you need to download a mod to remove the green tint so the game doesn't look like vomit. Bugs and loading screens everywhere. It does have plenty of empty computer generated planets to explore if you're into that.

Up to try any genre of games and sometimes I find something new that I didn't think I'd like. I own a PC (built by me), Xbox, PlayStation and a Switch. I prefer PlayStation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the GameInformer review scale and of course influenced by my personal opinions.

    (8) Very Good. Innovative, but perhaps not the right choice for everyone. This score indicates that there are many good things to be had, but arguably so.

Upon writing , I have 50 hours of play time on Steam and 15 hours on Xbox. During my first 20 hours of playing, I was not a happy camper. I was getting annoyed with the constant loading screens, and the constant walking on worlds that had repeated content in the procedurally generated worlds. For example I kept on seeing the same cave, mine, animals, plants, and/or, outpost setup that these knew planets I was visiting didn't seem very different from each other. I ended up not letting myself go to random planets and started to only follow the main mission and side missions and I started liking the game a lot more and wanted to keep going. The handcrafted parts of the game was a breath of fresh air to me and turned my initial worry about the game around. I enjoy the space flight but wish we could travel to other planets manually, I get not being able to enter planets without a cutscene but I was expecting to be able to fly in space more than just specific areas. You pretty much have to fast travel everywhere and it ruins the journey for me. Of course, I wouldn't want to manually go everywhere all the time but here and there I would. I haven't ran into any major bugs and the miner ones I did run into would just be enemies glitching into the ground slightly and the characters not looking at you in conversation. Basically, I'm enjoying the story and side stories but besides how many planets there are, the outpost building, and ship building, this game is on par with the Mass Effect Series and most of those games were from two generations ago that accomplished most of the same things. I don't think this game is a masterpiece but it's worth the time to play.

This game is incredible, head to toe. The soundtrack is quite possibly one of the best soundtracks in all of gaming, rivaling that of only the original Halo trilogy. The crafting, the skill progression, the exploration, the characters, the worlds, all absolutely stunning. I spent about 3 hours just WALKING through New Atlantis just getting lost in the cinematics, feeling like i was the main character in a blockbuster movie that just came out.

The movement, animations, gunplay, and graphics are a full step above Skyrim and Fallout 4, and that is a very nice improvement to have. The attention to detail, the physics, the natural way the characters behave, it's all just spot on. I played a lot of Fallout and Elder Scrolls (loved them both) and I can say without question that this is a worthy successor to the throne.

In one word, this game is: breathtaking. I hope people can take a step back, spend some real time with this game, and truly appreciate it for what it is - a masterpiece.

How much more damning can faint praise get when the discussion of a game’s quality focuses on how it’s less incompetently cobbled together than previous ones? What does it mean when you're so used to shipping broken games, you think "less broken" is an actual brag? Let’s be real, it doesn’t mean much at all when your last game’s level of quality sat at the bedrock below the barrel. To call Starfield the least broken Bethesda game is akin to calling any single TERF the least embarrassing fascist. Then again, given how Zenimax and Bethesda seem to treat trans employees, that comparison may hit too close to home. Starfield’s unintentionally comedic marketing claims might very well be true. It could indeed be, as other reviews have breathlessly proclaimed, “the most polished Bethesda game to date.” That doesn’t mean it’s actually polished, does it? Being the least glitchy game is not the same as being a glitch-free game, and if there’s one thing Starfield ain’t, it’s that. I can of course only speak about my own experience, which has been of a game no more laudable than the digital wreckage that was Fallout 76. Its abundant issues range from the small - enemies getting stuck in doors, NPCs materializing out of thin air, etc. - to the thoroughly horrendous. Really do mean horrendous. I’ve been perpetually stuck on dialog screens, unable to advance a conversation while a character silently gurns at me. I’ve regularly become trapped in my ship’s cockpit, unable to move until I’ve sat back down in my seat and stood up again. Companions have disappeared. Mission-critical enemies have spawned inside walls and rendered almost impossible to kill. I’ve gotten softlocked more times than is forgivable, and I dread to think how much progress I’ve cumulatively lost as a result. By the time the game outright crashed, it felt like hitting the middle square of a bingo card.

In decades past, Bethesda’s games have gotten away with being busted beyond reason because they were “so ambitious,” but any leeway that might have historically earned has long since dried up. Higher reaching productions from less wealthy companies haven’t been half so defective, not to mention dated. Compared to its contemporaries, the complacency on display is almost offensive. While Starfield’s galaxy is nebulously “big,” its vast array of barren planets populated by recycled assets is absolutely no justification for what this thing truly is - just another buggy Bethesda game following an ancient blueprint that hasn’t evolved creatively or mechanically since Fallout **** 3. On a fundamental level, Starfield plays exactly like any other Bethesda game, only with features borrowed - and subsequently lessened – from No Man’s Sky and The Outer Worlds. The same rudimentary combat (only without VATS to wallpaper over how sloppy it is). The same archaic approach to exploration and questing. The same stilted dialog propelled by non-sequitur exchanges. The same moronic A.I. and robotic animations. The same old narrative cliches in a world of cardboard where every stranger tells you their life story and immediately trusts you with sensitive tasks for seemingly no other reason than the fact you’re a videogame protagonist and they somehow know it. Hell, it’s even got the same worthlessly clumsy third-person mode we’ve seen for almost twenty years, just to hammer home how shockingly little Bethesda has advanced as a creative entity.

People have referred to Starfield as No Man’s Skyrim, and while some have intended that as a slight against this game, I actually think it’s more insulting to Hello Games’ work. No Man’s Sky at least had a universe you could seamlessly explore, with planets you were able to approach and land on in real time. That was actually ambitious. Starfield’s planets can be flown to manually over the course of hours, but you can’t land on them without a menu, loading screens (get used to seeing those), and dull cutscenes. lso, let’s give the devil its due - Hello Games has worked damn hard to improve No Man’s Sky far beyond its launch version to the point it still has massive summer updates at no extra cost. Bethesda’s so averse to improvement that multiple games released years apart feature the exact same unaddressed bugs. It’s a little gauche, admittedly, to draw so many direct comparisons to other games in a review.

If you’re the kind of person who thinks videogames peaked with Fallout 3's launch version and they’ve required neither evolution nor improvement since, this game is absolutely for you.If you believe Bethesda doesn’t need to exhibit growth as an artistic outlet and hasn’t had to change a thing about the way it’s made games since 2008, I can safely say you’ll adore Starfield.

Haven’t really enjoyed games for a while since they are all repetitive and can’t catch my attention but I’m 8 hours into this game and it is unreal. Everything about it is amazing, the ship customisation, the different weapons, all the different types of armour/suits you can get, the credit collection, buying houses in different universes, the characters, the storyline. 100% my GOTY

The game is amazing. But it takes at least 10-15 hours to realize that. If I had to point out any dislike would be no seamless tradition from flying and landing on the planet. But that’s only because we compare to no man’s sky. The games’ story is amazing. You need very good rig to run on high but it pays off. So much to do in the game.

It's just odd to why as Bethesda just paste it just on a different planet little odd to say. The graphics are authentic and vastly impressive from the same engine of FO4 but classic Bethesda npcs look disgusting. Gameplay is what shines here definitely enjoyable and responsive no issues for me. Story..eh well it's not bad nor a great it's serviceable. Starfield isn't a bad game but Starfield feels like No Man Sky and Star Citizen in certain formula..those games exceeded the exploration well Starfield did not. But Starfield can be fun but the content seems bare to me to which feel disappointing. It's not a space sim, it's an RPG, and a dang good one at that. The perks you choose matter and open up opportunities, there are multiple ways to complete quests, and an incredible amount of character customization and roleplay potential. For those of us who enjoy role-playing our games, very few studios make the sort of games that scratch that "itch." The outer worlds came close, but was too small in scope. Kingdom Come Deliverance was also amazing, but unfortunately you have a fixed character you have to play as. A lot of us prefer to make our own character, and for those of us that do, there's no better option than Bethesda. I'd love if another studio stepped up to the plate and tried to make the same kind of game, but they just don't and won't. So until that day comes, Bethesda makes the best experiences for us roleplay nerds.

The only criticism i have against the game is with performance on PC. Fortunately I play on XBOX where the experience is well optimized, but I've heard it's not the same with PC players unfortunately. Performance aside, it's a 10/10 for me. Massive, deep, repayable, and will keep us RPG fans busy for years to come.

It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.
