I've had no issues with this game on Xbox unlike PC. It's another Souls game, if you're into them then you'll probably be into this one too. I've put in multiple hours only killing one boss so far. The scenery is breath taking, the best part for me was exploring the landscape.

As someone who’s only dipped their toes into the “Souls-borne” genre, I’ve got to say that this is easily one of, if not THE best games I’ve ever played. It’s so incredibly challenging, but every time you get over a hurdle you have one of the biggest feelings of satisfaction any game can give you! I have a hard time noticing frame drops, so I don’t have anything to say on that level. I can only rate how Elden Ring is for me on the Xbox Series S. I've had no problems, no stutters, no frame drops, multiplayer works, it's running the way it supposed to. Anyway I'm a Nintendo guy and I bought my Xbox so I could play this game and am not disappointed. It's also my first souls game since Dark Souls 1 first came out and I'm loving it, lots of dying even to the first enemy but it can be done with some time and practice. It's huge too, 40 hours in and I haven't even gotten out of the first area, too busy exploring and dying and trying to power up as much as possible, the world isn't empty, it just doesn't have a million markers on the map telling you exactly where everything is, you have to go look for it.

Well, my fears were unfounded. Going open world didn't impede this game at all, it elevated it. Almost every square inch of this game is beautiful, unique, and most importantly, full of new experiences. I feel actual joy exploring this land, when usually in an open world game I just zero in on the waypoint so I can quickly kill the enemies and finish whatever lame quest I am on.

There have been a few additions to the Souls gameplay, such as a jump button and stealth. I was surprised to see stealth, but after playing a bit I can't really imagine getting around this world without it.

I could probably babble on about this game for awhile, but really I'm just writing this review to spite the babies!

Overall I think you know where I stand with Elden Ring, the current server troubles are being addressed and shouldn’t play into the reviews of a new release, especially from a developer and publisher who only serves the players and doesn’t implement a money hungry cash grab into their games. Thank you FromSoftware for helping keep gaming in its roots, with the player. Expand

It is incredible to me that they were able to create this in just over 2 years of development. This is also the most accessible soulsborne game, while also being one of the most challenging I’ve played. Honestly, first I must say that if you aren't a fan of Dark Souls and/or any previous FromSoftware game this is not going to change your mind.

With that out of the way, let's get down to it. This game is "bare" because it wants to give you a sense of exploration. Yes, minimaps are cool, yes quest trackers are good to have, but where's the mystery if every single thing has big arrows pointed at them? The lore is there for people that want to search, but you really have to do some digging to figure things out. Though to be fair the story is not anything different, it's been the same in all games. You're some kind of chosen one that keeps coming back to life and you have to kill some gods to become the next ruler. Good enough for me let's go kick some ass, but there's still a huge world to explore, with plenty of side dungeons/bosses if you want to take a break from the main path.

Which leads to combat, which has always been the best thing in all of the FromSoftware games. The amount of builds you can create is insane, and with new features and mechanics you can pretty much make any build viable. Want do smash things with giant hammers or swords? Go for it. Want to slice and dice with knives and daggers? Take a stab at it. Wanna stand far away and blast enemies with fireballs and magic missiles? Cast away your doubts and blast away your foes. Hell there's even a video of someone playing as Darth Maul, double-blading every enemy in their path.

The visuals are decent, nothing mind blowing but in this day and age it's really hard to improve upon graphics. Even still, the art direction and style carry the game tenfold, so while the graphics aren't amazing you will still be in awe at how great the world looks. I'm constantly panning the camera 360 degrees just to take in all the visuals and I am constantly in awe of it all.

Now to answer the biggest question on everybody's mind: how difficult is it? You really want to know? It's brutal. Maddening. It will make you rage with anger and weep with sorrow. You will cry for mommy and dial 911 for emergency help simultaneously. Your anus will hurt from the relentless 24/7 pounding it gives you. You will fail more than you succeed, but when you do succeed, and rest assured you will, you will feel like the god you are aiming to by the end of the game. But wait, there's more. Tired of getting your ass handed to you for the millionth time? FRET NOT YOUNG TARNISHED! You can summon other players to assist you with bosses meaning you don't have to worry about being stuck for too long.

Overall the game is definitely a blast. I'm playing on the Xbox One X and I have not run into too many technical issues. Yes some FPS drops here and there but no crashing and no fight hindering slow downs during bosses either. The only reason it's a not a 10/10 is because the story is basically rehashed. Well, that and for a game to deserve a 10 it really does need to be superb while also bringing something new to the table. Elden Ring doesn't exactly bring anything new to the table but it definitely improves on the old formula. It's kinda like if your favorite drink is Mountain Dew and your favorite fruit is cherry and they just released Code Red. Except it can kill you twice before you even take your first sip. Yeah, something like that.

Having spent more than 60 hours on the game, I can't put the game down, and I can't wait to get into NG+.

The game is brutal on mistakes, but stick it out, because this is in my honest opinion the greatest game I have ever had the privilege of playing.

There is an actual sense of adventure. The map does not shout at you with dozens of markers - you see something on the map resembling ruins, and you check it out because the game taps into your curiosity. Every discovery you make feels like your own and is rarely guided, with dialogue and world design that compliments the intelligence of the player, as is a staple in FromSoftware's games.

Having spent that much time in the game, I'd say I'm more or less about 60% of the way through, and I am so happy about that. I never want this game to end.

RECOMMENDATION: As I have always said for FromSoft games - your first playthrough should be solo, and unguided. This game is the pinnacle of that statement. Knowing where everything is from guides kills the exploration and discovery aspect of the game somewhat.

Add in new gameplay mechanics, a gripping story co-written by George R.R. (Far cry 6 or Ac Valhalla as example)

Like Zelda Botw, Elden Ring goes against this grain in that it respects the players intelligence to create their own adventure out of the sandbox world that is given. Combat while bring very similar to Dark Souls 3, is the most refined combat that we’ve seen from FromSoftware. Graphics can be seen as a weak point of this game, in that even in next gen consoles it doesn’t seem to give that wow factor as much as other games that are coming out in 2022 such as Horizon Forbidden West. Though I will say the world design of this game is so strong that it outshines the (can be) poor textures. As any Other Soulslike FromSoftware game that they’ve published, Elden Ring has Excellent Replay Value, the combat has a mastery to it as soon as you begin playing the game.It being a well executed RPG it gives the player so much variations in how they can play the game that by the time you’re finished your 1st play through, you want to begin your second journey straight away just so you experience the game as a different build instead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Network code: not much improvement from dark souls 3 and in general, online is a bit hard to get into. Had one item activated that should summon me into other people their world when they got invaded but never happened.

PC build/stable FPS: It is From Software their first open world and mistakes will be made. Where I didn't have too bad of a FPS drop on pc, I know others did. And I sure had some awful frame drops myself during certain fights. In the end, it will be patched out rather sooner then later so I do not feel like it is too far of a point to judge on.

Open world: Their first open world and they nailed it. The moment you step out of the introduction area, you can go wherever you wish to go in a stunning looking world. Walk around and stumble upon a cave? Well it has some neat loot in it and worth a grab. By far the best open world game for me.

Difficulty: The game can be as difficult or easy as you make it. The first boss people seem to be having issues with is Margrit, who is indeed difficult. But it teaches you to do something else. Go out and explore, level up, get stronger weapons and then return to properly fight him.

Everything together, it is a solid 8 out of 10 for me. Not everything is perfect, but which game is? A true love letter to the fans of the dark souls series.

That being said, the game does feel a bit grindy in the beginning, especially if giants scare you. It also lacks a simple main story, opting instead to give detail and plenty of backstory to its npc's and the world itself and making you the player figure things out. Your destiny won't be found nested in dialogue options, lengthy cutscenes, and a clear-cut path, it'll be what you make it. If you're up for the challenge, get Elden Ring and enjoy one of the greatest games out there. Expand

This game does as much for the Souls like games as Breath of the Wild did for Zelda. And it’s amazing! If you absolutely don’t like the Souls games or have a really hard time with the combat, this may not change your mind, but if your curious it’s definitely worth checking out!

Game is absolutely stunning. Runs with 0 issues on my Series S from my personal experience. Bosses are fairly challenging, regular enemies vary in difficulty, but most of all.... the game allows you to go out and explore the vast world with the only punishment being the players(yourself) lack of skill. I'm blown away with how amazing this game truly is. 10/10 in my books.

This game is fantastic. It's a fromsoftware game; if you don't like difficulty or want the story handed to you, well then this isn't the game for you. If you like souls games then you will probably love this one. You will die a lot, the game is a challenge. The combat is grueling and takes a while to master.

They don’t realize that the difficulty of these games comes from THEM being a **** player because they were seasoned with the titles stated above, titles that reward you for being a **** player. They are not used to challenges. They want quest markers, dungeon markers, npc markers on the map. They want a difficulty setting. They don’t get what “roleplaying” means in these games. You’re not playing as some killing machine that can crush every single enemy as if they were tin cans, you’re playing as a person who seeks to be that strong one day, and you DO become that strong come late game. I hate that this game became a mountain of hype. Sorry but, the souls series doesn’t deserve this treatment. I don’t know why they decided to open it up to the general, more stupid audience. If this game had the same fanbase DS3 had at its release, I guarantee you it would’ve had a fan review score of 98-99. This game is literally the closest game we’ve had to perfect in its respective genre. Sorry for the long comment, I just felt like they didn’t do justice to this masterpiece of a video game franchise. Expand

However, if you commit a little bit of time to learning the combat system and to understanding the bosses move sets, you'll be recorded with what I consider to be one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a very long time.

The boss battles are some of the most intricately designed, punishing button mashing and forcing you to beat them, not by luck, but by skill and determination. The scenery is beautiful and the open world is very, very detailed, with a trip into an unassuming shack taking you on a quest spanning multiple hours. The enemies are diverse and always keep you on your toes and every battle is a little bit different. The game allows you to play in a multitude of ways, in a very non-linear style of story telling where you have to figure things out on your own. This makes the game very rewarding and finally beating a boss which you've been beaten by 50 or so times brings unmatched satisfaction.

Jefes increibles, materiales interesantes, mecanicas fabulosas y excelente soundtrack.

About the performance itself. I play it on my XSX in 2K and the 60 fps is stable for me. Only in 4k mode it fluctuates between 45/50-60 fps. Also online works for me from 1 day without problems. It has not worked for many people who came later on the release day because the server capacities were at capacity. From Software probably didn't expect so many players, which of course doesn't excuse it at all. However, it must also be said that this has now been fixed.

Graphically, the game is no Horizon Forbidden West, which was never expected. It is a beautiful Dark Souls game.

I read a lot of negative reviews here that classify the game as too hard and only got it because of the open world. If you haven't played a Souls game yet, I think you should do so first. For anyone who says it was only rated well by Souls fans, YES BECAUSE IT IS A SOULS GAME. I don't understand the negative review because the game is like Dark Souls, that's what it's supposed to be and I thank From Software for that too. From Software has not only kept its own game concept, they have also improved a lot of the negative things that bothered me about Dark Souls.

This is not a generic mainstream sony open world game. Anyone who thinks they are getting a standard Sony open world game like Horizon, Days Gone, etc should stay away from Elden Ring.

Anyone who is a fan of the Dark Souls series and especially the first part, this game is a must! Elden Ring is a masterpiece from From Software. They have managed to take the best of their last games and combine it with an incredibly large open world. The game has the atmosphere of Dark Souls 1 (to the point that I feel like I did the very first run of Dark Souls 1, both nostalgia and the childlike joy of exploring an unknown world), it has the movement of Dark Souls with nuances of Sekiro.

The open world seems nice but a bit empty and the first dungeons very (that's how I felt) , the Souls feeling did not come up immediately. BUT! After 50 hours of playing I understand why this was so at the beginning. The game should go in the mainstream direction whereby newcomers should settle into the game concept in the first area. After the first boss and the first castle, the Souls feeling really kicks in and content is thrown at you. So many different beautiful worlds, secret paths, interesting quests and many many random surprises on his journey there has never been in a Souls game.

I haven't played a game that captivated me like this in years.

I sometimes died because of how cool, badass or beautiful some of the bosses were and it distracted me from dodging the brutal attacks.
This is an open world done right, not just ticking off a checklist of things all generic open world tropes but it an actual well polished and thought out world, everything in it feels like it belongs and it feels so full of life and variety that after 70hours + of playing I'm still finding surprises and I see any sign of that stopping.
FromSoftware have out done themselves and I believe this game will have a spot among one of the greatest games ever made and has a new stepping stone of what an open world can bring pushing the genre forward but also the gaming industry as a whole.
The bar has been raised so high and after writing this review I'm gonna go play Elden Ring some more.
As close to perfection as any game I've play thus far.

Don't listen to the cult, be fully warry of the game you are about to buy. I have fully enjoyed the game but I'm about half way through and frankly, I'm burned out it's just too repetitive.

The Critics reviews for this game, are insane. Have they lost their **** minds? This game is the definition of quantity over quality.

Why is this game immune to basic critiques other games get ROASTED for? Its open world...is bad. Pure and simple. It's big? it's open? But it's 2022 and EVERY open world has to be more than just open and big. The level design is crude and linear. Choice in design amounts to "path with traps" or "path with no traps". To much of dungeons is walking on basic rooftops with no level design whatsoever on them. It's lazy. They should have cut the game in half and focused. Dungeons and villages are copy-paste, traps are crude, there is just too much yet so little outside of the combat.

Which would be fine, if the game weren't acting like it was anything more than just combat.

I honestly do really enjoy this game's gameplay, but for 2022...it's pretty subpar as far as diversity of offerings and complexity of systems. I've gotten about 1/2 the way through (I've done most everything up to entering the Capital and I'm level 90ish) and I'm pretty much burned out. The story, frankly, is just lore...that's it. You've got 1 real story going on and the rest is just set dressing to explain gameplay choices that were already present in Dark Souls...aka, it's not story. There is nothing compelling here. It's just beautiful metaphorical imagery that amounts to pretty much nothing narratively other than a loose allegory for life that's so vague and lacking in substance that it's just boring. They stole the death rune? Neat...what does that mean? That we can revive...that's it. The entire plot is just telling you why you are playing a dark souls game.

At what point does "mysterious" end up just being "vague and empty"...because my experience has been thinking something was coming, and being disappointed OVER and OVER.

I don't want quest logs or map icons telling me where to go, but this game won't even give you enough story context to tell you the next step in a quest. They just give you a dagger and say "give it to the person who owns it"...like what the actual ???? It's like they forgot to finish the game. I have spent a vast swathe of time playing this game, doing nothing but looking up the next step because the game gave me NOTHING and I'm not gonna waste my time searching for a needle in a haystack.

I LOVE solving puzzles, I love piecing together information, I love open story design...my favorite game of all time is Outer Wilds. This game, just frankly sucks outside of the combat (which is still dated)...deeply. The horse controls are pretty mediocre and lack in clarity, bosses are all dodge spam and lack interesting mechanics (I can name like 3 bosses that actually felt neat but 1 of them was so bad at the same time I don't even want to mention him).

I am TOTALLY FINE with how hard this game is...if anything it's the easiest dark souls ever. It's just only a dark souls game.

I do think, for a Souls gamer...this game is gunna be a 10/10...don't hesitate. Buy it.

But for me, a person who has played this kind of game before...I'm just not interested in more of the same.

Being conservative, not pushing your game franchise to be more, that's not something that should be rewarded with the amount of praise this game is getting...there is SO MUCH this game franchise could do to bring out greater gameplay complexity while maintaining its unique stamp. Being open world isn't revolutionary. Not having basic UI elements isn't revolutionary. Telling a vague story badly isn't compelling. These are problems.

This game is deeply overhyped...period. But so are many games, such as BOTW...which was also great in many categories while mediocre in others. However, BOTW was actually innovative. It took risks. This game is a singleplayer MMO from 2004 with better combat. Thats how crude it feels to engage with the world and story and level design. That has to count for SOMETHING in the score.

So I'm sorry but I have to dock this game...it's not perfect, it lacks so much. In a RPG game market that is deeply more complex than this title I don't really see what it is doing so right that it warrants a 10/10...it's just doing so little and pumping out a lot...so that's all games have to be now? That's just what AC is doing and everyone docks AC?...and I like this more than AC...but how is this game dodging the basic criticism the industry applies to every other similar title?

Sifu and Hades has done more to move the Dark Souls formula forward than FromSoft has...it's bad. This isn't the next BOTW, this is just another Dark Souls title. Don't be deluded by the hype

For those complaining I am sorry I said what I said but get good, or go on YouTube and figure out how to become a badass in the world. This game doesn't deserve the low scores because you gave up because you couldn't hack it in the game. Sorry if it's not a " everyone gets a trophy type game just because you participated". 10/10 It also looks great on my Xbox series S FYI. Expand

I’m convinced that these low user reviews haven’t even played the game. Soulless? Uninspired? Bad graphics? None of these things have been an issue for me. Sure the graphics aren’t AAA level, but the art direction more than makes up for that. I haven’t entered a world that has more character to it since Skyrim. This game is brilliant, and is greater than the sum of its parts. EspeciallyI’m convinced that these low user reviews haven’t even played the game. Soulless? Uninspired? Bad graphics? Especially weird are the reviews saying “Forbidden West is better”??? This is not a flawless game, but it is still an amazing one. If you give it a chance and have the patience to learn from dying instead of getting angry, then please don’t let the negative user scores throw you off. If you can’t handle dying or don’t like overcoming adversity, then don’t play it. If you like all the aspects and areas of your open worlds thoroughly explained so that there is no mystery or discovery, then this game is not for you. If you are a human being with a brain and an ability to learn and think critically then this game IS FOR YOU. Expand

Literally the best game I've ever played, it's such a huge game with so many ways to play, So much replayability. An interesting story and world that keeps me intrigued every step of the way and amazing boss designs and mechanics. This has to be FromSofts best game to date and it shoes all the experience that they've gained over their other titles.

As a long time fan of Fromsoft's Dark Souls trilogy, Elden Ring takes the cake as the best of them all. I'm naturally a skeptical person and don't go throwing around the phrase "the best" too often. They plucked and dropped some of the best features from all of their past games and beautifully orchestrated them together with an interesting original story and produced a masterpiece. The music in ER is amazing as well and deserves recognition. There are a lot of reviews on here, and all over the internet, that make ER sound like the worst game ever made. A minute sum of these reviews and comments are valid and bring up reasonable points. However, a majority of them are emotionally motivated and charged by the overwhelming popularity this game has imbued. In the end, Elden Ring will go down as one of the greatest ever in-spite of the negative "reviews" a few "gamers" made because they couldn't git gud. Expand

This might be the best game I’ve played in 5 years. Everything about it is fun. If you don’t like this game you Simply are a push over and can’t take a challenge. I mean honestly that’s the only reason you wouldn’t like this game because you suck at it and can’t take a challenge. This game is amazing there’s always something new to discover and a new enemy around every corner.

Honestly such an amazing game. I love the fact that you rarely see markers on the map and you can adventure the land to discover stuff on your own. It doesn't have any handholding, nothing that tells you where to go typically. The thing that differentiates this from most other open world games is that the devs of other games want to show you their work, but from wants you to discover it.Honestly such an amazing game. Its got a huge open world to discover and tons of challenges to face, I feel like the issue most people may have is the fact that its fighting takes time to learn, which makes some encounters really difficult, but other that I love this game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Elden Ring is more of then a game, it’s an actual story that you get to create, it lets you choose your path and how you get to do it, the freedom is astonishing, and what you can explore to at the start of the game, there are no quest markers and I believe that it is amazing, there’s no task list, there’s no other objective except one, become the Elden Lord, people get upset that there’s no quest marker because they are used to their hand being held, and true, not every game can copy that, but, elden ring let’s you use your imagination. When you figure it out, there’s a click that you get in your head, the narration and item description helps give you a hint, take your time with the game and enjoy, and to the people say the graphics aren’t enough, go outside, the game is beautiful the way it is, you don’t need peach fuzz rendering to make a game like elden ring beautiful, the gameplay is fun because it challenges you, as a vet in the series, I am ecstatic to find the joy I have when I play this game, and to a word to people who say they hate people who love soul like games, my joy outshines that hatred that equals the abyss, in the end though, I love the challenge, I love the time I’ve spent in my first play through, and another side note, sorry if I sound nerdy, this game deserves the praise it gets Expand

Despite some annoying performance issues, Elden Ring is a masterpiece. The combat, enemy variety, exploration, music, and open world are top notch. I’ve been playing it daily across all platforms alongside other games all month, and look forward to doing that all year as I try new builds, help friends, and try to do everything I want in this triumph of a video game.

Elden Ring rewards your curiosity in many ways, be it items, runes or a pathway to another area, but mostly it’s a story to tell your friends when you are sharing tales around the bonfire. It does not force feed tutorials down your throat, but instead it leans far the opposite way by not telling you much at all and lets you explore and find things out on your own. There is no true quest log, no points of interest on a map or no arrows pointing you in the right direction, so there is a good chance you’ll miss some of the best caves and areas of the game. Because of all of this, Elden Ring is forcing me to find all of that out on my own and it is one of the most rewarding games I have ever played. I will continue to explore the Land Between for many hours to come. I’m just not in a hurry.

Elden Ring manages to draw the player into a fascinating world for many hours, with refined gameplay that fits perfectly with the freedom granted to the player. A sumptuous but imperfect work, which fails to completely overcome some of the historical flaws of Hidetaka Miyazaki's productions. Flaws that, however, can't diminish the scope of a masterpiece destined to leave an indelible mark on the videogame world and to set new standards for the souls-like and open-world genres.
