    Really annoying mechanics. I love a good challenge and loved Dark Souls but when a game resorts to **** and sneaky tricks to beat the player, that's when it loses me. It's hard but in a more frustrating and hollow way than in a fun and practical way. Not a horrible game by any means but if you don't have the endless hours to grind or pour in the time to get really good, I wouldn't botherReally annoying mechanics.     First game in a long time where you get exactly what you payed for and exactly what was advertised, no micro transactions, no battle pass, just a massive playground where the only one limiting your enjoyment and progression is you. My advice, explore the world when you get stuck on a boss, go off the beaten path, strike first, strike hard, No mercy.

    There's a huge amount of Bosses that look amazing and creepy but the Gameplay & Inconsistency of the bosses gets a bit annoying overtime.

    Good game for the dark souls genre. But ultimately a gimmick riddled experience where they tie the players hands in ridiculous way, thinking that’s what fun is. Does not deserve game of the year for sure. The best part of the game is the lore/story, and after 400 hours later (6play throughs) I still had to find a YouTube video explains 50% of the lore.

    Performance issues, network issues at launch make me wonder where all tge perfect scores came from. VRR makes the performance issues manageable. It's a fun game but I just don't see much fresh besides it being Dark Souls with an Open World. It has lore but no storytelling. It's the same mechanics. I unfortunately thought it was a big evolution but the only thing that's changed is am open world, a horse and you can a summon AI help at times.     For me this game is amazing, the atmosphere for this game kept me in awe throughout most of the game, and althought fromsoft kept the games difficulty hard, they added multiple classes so people can pick a class they are most comfortable with, which in my opinion, makes the player have a lot more choice in this than other fromsoft games.

Why should this be any different with Elden Ring's frame stutters? It has been a month and a half without any real fixes. I do not recall the same level of compassion with Cyberpunk.

    With Elden Ring, Fromsoft proves it has finally lost sight of what makes their games fair and rewarding and has caved in completely to artificial difficulty. Fights in this game are either trivial or littered with poorly thought out fast attacks and combos, with dramatic AOE effects in bossrooms to cover up the horrible design choices. The gameplay has barely changed since DS3 and does not equip the player with the appropriate toolset to handle its range of enemies. Even worse, they have somehow regressed in quality, with slower rolls, less i frames, input buffering, input delay, inputs disappearing. The damage done in the last third of the game is so bizarre that I cannot even begin to comprehend the thought process. It feels like From really wanted to make an open world game, designed a huge and interconnecting map, and everything else just played second fiddle: littering the landscape with uncreative, sparse and repeated dungeons and encounters, scrapping together unused boss and enemy designs from previous games and slapping it together without thorough playtesting or thoughtful user-oriented design. In summary, after several hundred hours of From games, this is the game that has now tarnished my image of From as a company that holds their games to high standards and respects the player.    … Expand

    This game is mediocre in every way.

    Biggest difference between other souls games is the huge size of the map. That means they had to put a lot of filler in to the map to accommodate for a full open world. This game has more in common than latest assassin's creed games than to souls/bourne games. What a disappointment...

Now, I understand poeple will not dig the "git good" part of the souls community, but in this part, after seeing how bad kids put a 1 or a 0 just cause they are new or dont understand the gamesMasterpiece. Nothing less than that. Elden Ring is a complex game, you will love it or hate it, is a SOULS game in a beautiful well made inmersive opernworld that reward you for HIGH exploration.     Guess you REALLY have to be into this kind of game. Incredibly boring, walk around kill things,die. Not much in the way of any story. The world design is nice, just a shame the graphics look several generations old. I'd sum this up as very tedious. Wish i hadn't bought digital now as i can't sell it to some from software bum boy who likes playing the same game over and over.

    Due to the sheer difficulty of the game I often catch myself realizing I'm not having fun. Levelling your character up depends entirely on the acquisition of runes and so I often have to go farm an area over and over and over again or my character just can't progress. Those are the only aspects of the game I don't enjoy and the reason why I give it a 6.     One of the most overrated games of this generation. It's dark souls again just in a boring open world that tries to be breath of the wild but falls flat on its face. The story is literally the same as every other game so GRR martins influence was greatly exaggerated.

    Horrible game. Constantly get immediately killed in any area I explore. Only critical hit from behind works. No objectives are shown. Guarding with shield does little to stop damage. Can't tell if you've completed the objective in an area. Can't tell the strength of the opponent. Key information on items stats is hidden, for a “core” game this should be easily accessible.     It basically is just a fighting simulator. There is nothing more in this game. Run around, fight difficult to impossible (for me) battles, grind endlessly, progress extremely slowly, and, from time to time, discover items that may or may not be useful for you.
    You will die a lot, lose all character progress regulairly, and generally, have no idea what this game is actually about. The story is non-existent, the world is extremely lifeless, and just filled with enemies that wait only or you, and the storyline will come to an end pretty fast, because you will just not be able to beat the bosses. At least, if you are a casual gamer iike me.
    Which forces you to battle easy opponents forever, as rewards and character developement are hardly more than a cosmetic feature.

    Of course there are ways to exploit the game, but as soon as i need youtube in a tab to achieve any chance of progression, a game has failed for me.

    My last experience in this game, after exploring the whole starting region desperately, was a sorceress who finally enabled me to learn new spells. Which gave me hope, that the torture had come to an end.
    And guess what: Those spells are far weaker than the weak ones, that you start with. Its a slap in the face, and im sure, that its an intended one.

    What is even the point of a performance mode if it's a stuttering mess that can't hit 60 fps 90% of the time? Loading times are also significantly longer compared to PC or PS5 which doesn't make any sense. Game desperately needs some updates.

    This game is only for the fans of the popular Dark Souls games. If you are new to the serie this will probably be a very frustrating an disappointing experience. Bought it at launch because of the hype and after 15 hours I gave up. It's one big struggle. Together with the pretty low performance on Xbox Series X I'm done playing this. Game.

    Lack of content. FROMSOFTWARE has managed to "Call of Duty" -ify dark souls. It's rinse and repeat. Take out the open world and you have dark souls. Open world fails in a game that was originally designed to be a linear gameplay. I wish they took notes from Breath Of The Wild and saw what did not work.

    I had some experience with From games going in. I did almost beat the base game Dark Souls 3. I did play a bit of Bloodborne. So it’s not like I came in blind or unsuspecting. But watching footage and listening to “reviewers” say this game is accessible gave me hope that maybe this would be a more fun version of the previous titles I played through. Nope. This is just as painful as any other souls game. And what’s worse is I convinced a friend to pick it up thinking that and he had zero experience with these kind of games and basically ally wasted $60.

    I’ve put around 30 hours into the game. I’ve over-leveled myself because I just wanted to experience the game and the world in a more casual fashion. I don’t care to be a pro at this game. The open world is fantastic. It’s one of the best open world maps I’ve ever seen. Extremely dense. No place is the same. Packed with stuff to actually find and see. It’s filled with caves and dungeons and open world bosses everywhere. I can’t even count the amount of enemy types. So the world, the combat, the exploration, are all top notch as usual.

    But it’s brutal out there. I often find myself dying still in a few shoots to almost anything. Arrows and rocks are buried from across the map from enemies that will destroy you. Trying to get out of combat just to use your map again is tedious. I guess I expected the open world part to be more casual and to have a decent way for leveling but this is not the case. Glitch farming methods are the only real way you can even level in this game and it’s no wonder everyone cheeses them.

    Questing is absurd. I understand and accept that this is how From does it. I’m not here to try and change it. But doing quests is insanely confusing, and I just end up watching guides because I don’t want to spend hundreds of hours and multiple play throughs to do them. Many quests can be missed.

    Bosses themselves haven’t been too bad depending on play style. But again, I over-leveled with a broken farming method and play a Mage so I’ve got range and a general OPness to me. But even at that you still die in a couple shots if not careful. So anyone who thinks they can over-level to the point of 1 shoting bosses or tanking all their attacks will be let down. I hate when gaming companies do this — lure you into a false sense of being powerful. I think that happens here. Even though you can get more powerful in ER than any other game they’ve made, you won’t really feel it and still die a ton.

    I think a 7 is very appropriate for this title. There’s still plenty more to say, both good and bad, but I digress. It’s a good game. It’s not game if the year. It’s not game if the decade. It’s just a really solid game from a really solid developer. It’s just a game that’s not meant for everyone, despite how much I hate that statement and think it’s a terrible one. If your not a Souls player and lover, this game is not a entry to it.    … Expand

    I want to really like this game but performance issues ruin the experience. Playing on performance mode, it feels like I'm getting below 30fps in some boss battles, and having low framerates when you need precise movements and actions, makes it nearly impossible to progress in some places. If you're on the fence about purchasing Elden Ring, hold off until the developers improve the performance.

The first time you were excited and scared at the same time, The friendships...friendships before drama, when the only thing required to be friends was that you were all young and ignorant of an adult world. As we know being an adult isn't nearly as exciting and is rarely fun. So of course people (like me) in there 30's 40's and 50's will pay cash for a chance at feeling that bliss, if only for a single second, if only one more time.

    Video games were my very first love. Karate Kid on the NES is the first game I remember playing. And it called to me. The colors racing by, the thrill of surviving one more screen as I scrolled right kicking and punching. Then at the local arcade it was WWF Wrestlefest and Afterburner that gave me that same thrill, That sense of pure bliss. Other games made me feel that way over the years. But it came fewer and farther between as I got older. And it wasn't just games feel this way. It was going to a new friends house for the first time, playing in a construction area at night, riding my first wheelie on my bike, my first ollie, exploring abandoned houses with my friends. when we were kids it was pure bliss all the time.

    As life carries on, there are still wonders. the first time being intimate with someone, falling in love, your first promotion at work. But for most of us our day to day life's have become the status quo, go to work, be a good parent, and a good spouse. But no matter how good your life turns out, for a lot of us there will always be a longing for that bliss. That feeling of discovery we had so many years ago.

    Eldon Ring absolutely makes me feel that way again. I cant exactly say why. I never liked any of the other games made by FROM software. In fact I disliked them. But this game has kept me on the edge of my seat for the 30 hours I've put into it. I'm glued to my TV in a way that I haven't been for years. My heart races, and my adrenaline has been off the charts! Not just the game either, I've had my laptop In front of me the whole time, on forums, wiki's, and watching YouTube videos. Its the most "fun" I've had as long as I can remember. Around every corner is something new and exciting, every cave, Ruin, or castle is just absolutely filled with discovery. The constant fear of losing your progressions is ever looming giving this game that fear and excitement feeling from my youth. There is nothing like discovering an area with no messages anywhere and knowing you might be the first player to ever find this place. It's constant exhilaration.

    I could get into the mechanics, the graphics, what features the game has or lacks. But I wont. I could talk about the length of the game. But I also wont, Because for me it doesn't matter. Im 30 hours in and if the game ended now, or lasted another 100 hours I would consider it the greatest game ever made. What I do care about is how this game makes me feel. And it makes me feel like a kid again. Not for a second, but for hours. I never thought I would feel these kinds of emotions again. And for that I am so thankful.

    I usually dont write reviews, But I had to let someone somewhere know how amazing this game is. In my opinion this game is without a doubt the G.O.A.T..    … Expand

    Honestly the game is looking pretty lame on Xbox series x ---hopefully they tap into the power of the xbox. Game wise its early but being a souls borne fan this game feels different then say dark souls 3. Not sure but so far not too great.

Boss too hard? Go somewhere else and get stronger and better. Seriously, just turn and run. No questions asked. If you pay attention to the small details, it can make the game so much easier.     I'll give it a ten once the game is well optimized, because I prefer smooth 60 fps gameplay without ray tracing and no 4K to 30 fps and 4K gameplay. The performance mode needs to be reviewed, you can do without a drop in resolution or detail to have a game at 60 fps anyway, make an effort for the performance mode.

    I liked the previous souls games and this one is the best so far. The world is fun to explore and looks great. The difficulty seems a bit more doable and bosses are varied. Definitely check this out if you like other from software games but this will probably not change you didn’t like previous instances.

    Interesting premise, I really love the open world approach in Elden Ring. Graphically it looks fine, but it runs so incredible bad that I had to stop playing. Get the fps up to a stable 60 and its a masterpiece, right now its not worth buying. In a game that revolves around timing these framerate issues are just unacceptable.

Combat is fine, but just the same as other souls games. Feels like Emperor's New Clothes that this is getting such high reviews.

    1. The story is nothing to write home about and seems like a cheap knockoff of Lord of the Rings lore, with a few things changed.
    2. The graphics aren't great. Not terrible, but not great.
    3. Unnecessarily long loading times for a next gen game.

    Now to be fair, this game has next gen graphics that are beautiful and certainly one for your desktop wallpaper but not that much else.
    The character design is in depth and makes you feel like you have inserted yourself into this world.

    BUT,

    The AI in this game is abysmal, they patrol the same line no matter what, day in and day out. Their perception is absolutely atrocious and you can sneak around them easily, too easily. You can also just sprint around literally any enemy and effectively become invincible. For a triple A release i do expect better. You end up killing the same footsoldiers in the same forest over and over which slows progress to a complete halt. Oh yeah, and THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT CORPSES. Come on man, at least be cautious about a **** corpse in the road. The voice acting also leaves this game with something to be desired. Every line feels like it is delivered with no emotion, anger or despair. Nothing.

    The "open world" is also very open, true, BUT it fails to fill its openness which is very disappointing. It fills itself with these stale enemies that feel like robots, not humans. Some loot that is completely useless for a majority of the game and vast expanses of admittedly beautiful views. BUT THE FOLIAGE is atrocious. The animation when you look closely is the same waving back and forth of stale fronds despite the direction of wind. Everything feels plastic with moving parts like a machine which is disappointing to say the least.

    The combat also is very clunky. I have played as bandit and astrologer and both control pretty badly. If you dodge continuously you effectively become invincible which defeats the purpose of good timing. The stamina recharges so quickly it might as well not even be a mechanic. The flasks are a good system that i can appreciate but the way they refuel is silly. Having to kill a group of enemies is stupid as it is inconsistent with which groups you can gain them on. Also lack of invulnerability frames means one attack can spell immediate death on you which is frustrating and leaves me feeling cheated.

    There is very little indication of where you are meant to go at all. I understand it is an open game but the only clue is the direction of the light shining from the light respawn point things which do this regardless of level meaning you might end up fighting the first real boss with the same gear you started off with, unfortunately i fell into this trap.

    Even furthermore, a complete lack of story, or at least a well explained version at the beginning leaves me feeling like there is no point to anything you do. The vague explanation in the powerpoint presentation "cutscene" at the beginning is not very motivational and does not make me want to discover what a tarnished is or why i want the elden ring so much. Even if it elaborates later into the story, i'm afraid it will be too little, too late.

    In summary, i must declare this game a victim of over hyping. Too high expectations have crashed this hype train. I will admit, amazing graphics (that aren't plants) and a good premise. However a combination of terrible AI, bad voice acting, an empty husk of a world, bad combat and an utterly unforgiving and vaguely signed world makes for a terrible first experience.     This is the worst game I have ever played. The visuals are outdated and the game play is all button mashing. This game is supper buggy and impossible to play. This game should be removed from the xbox and playstation stores to protect others from waisting there money.

    Despite some annoying performance issues, Elden Ring is a masterpiece. The combat, enemy variety, exploration, music, and open world are top notch. I’ve been playing it daily across all platforms alongside other games all month, and look forward to doing that all year as I try new builds, help friends, and try to do everything I want in this triumph of a video game.

    Elden Ring rewards your curiosity in many ways, be it items, runes or a pathway to another area, but mostly it’s a story to tell your friends when you are sharing tales around the bonfire. It does not force feed tutorials down your throat, but instead it leans far the opposite way by not telling you much at all and lets you explore and find things out on your own. There is no true quest log, no points of interest on a map or no arrows pointing you in the right direction, so there is a good chance you’ll miss some of the best caves and areas of the game. Because of all of this, Elden Ring is forcing me to find all of that out on my own and it is one of the most rewarding games I have ever played. I will continue to explore the Land Between for many hours to come. I’m just not in a hurry.

    Elden Ring manages to draw the player into a fascinating world for many hours, with refined gameplay that fits perfectly with the freedom granted to the player. A sumptuous but imperfect work, which fails to completely overcome some of the historical flaws of Hidetaka Miyazaki's productions. Flaws that, however, can't diminish the scope of a masterpiece destined to leave an indelible mark on the videogame world and to set new standards for the souls-like and open-world genres.
