It's an okay game. Dare I say, even good. But it's not the second coming of christ that a lot of people are making it out to be.

It's an okay game. Dare I say, even good. But it's not the second coming of christ that a lot of people are making it out to be.

I just played Sekiro, and damn, that game is incredible. It's challenging, with a great story, and visceral combat. Which is everything this game isn't, so going from that to this was just jarring.

Combat in this game consists of rolling around like runaway tire while bosses spam attacks, and then occasionally getting a smack or two in. The fact that defense still consists of the same crap dark souls had 10 years ago is lame. All an agility character can do is roll around like a moron. Why didn't they at least try and put sekiro's parry in? Why isn't there a smaller step dodge that's actually useful? All you can do is roll 5 times in a row, then get one hit in.

The story is, well, vague. Meh. That's all I have to say. Coming from Sekiro's story to this was disappointing.

In past souls type games by Fromsoft, you'd adventure a while, and encounter a boss, and get stuck on it a long time then finally have that "hell yeah" moment when you beat it. Just coming from Sekiro, each boss was exhilarating. Overcoming boss enemies in this game sucks ass. Why? The density. Everywhere you throw a stone there's a goddamn boss. It's so tedious. There's no pacing, it's all just boss enemies everywhere all over the world that you'll die to 5+ times, and then actual turbo bosses that you'll die on 30+ times in the dungeon areas.

There's another issue with combat. In the open world, fighting on the horse is optimal nearly all the time. Like 99% of the time. In a game where death is so punishing, it would be stupid to not do the most optimal thing. It's also optimal to just run past and completely ignore the existence of a lot of enemies. The reward for killing them just isn't worth the time. Who the hell designs a game where you're just supposed to bypass things people put weeks of work into designing?

The open world is good I guess, if a bit monochromatic, with a few exception areas that are incredible to behold. Some areas are really fun to explore. Some are awful and incredibly aggravating. Fast travel is a thing. A big thing. There are bonfires every 10 feet. And you'll be fast traveling between them all the time because of the tedium factor involved. I really dislike fast travel like this but whatever.

Overall I'd just call this game amazing, annoying, tedious, and fun, all at the same time. It's definitely not a 10/10. It's dark souls with a bigger (and less good, in my opinion) world. It'll give you a good 150, 200 hours of playtime. I really wish they at least tried to innovate on the crappy and dated dark souls combat, instead of making us roll more than a stoner in a joint factory.

I just finished putting just over 200 hours into my first playthrough, during which I searched every nook and cranny, tried to fight every enemy and boss, tried to find every item, tried to finish every quest, and accomplished most of that. A masterpiece. Beautiful. It's a modern and mature Zelda, a new gen and darker Skyrim with greater difficulty and less time-consuming and useless systems. It's grand. It's art. And I recommend it to every gamer. If you can get over the difficulty, you will be rewarded. And I never liked Souls-type games one bit before ER, but I see dopeness and beauty even in death in Elden Ring - how cool the enemy looks as he stalks over your body, the environment, the graphics and grandeur of it all. A masterpiece. Bravo, FromSoftware. Expand

This game is mediocre in every way.

Biggest difference between other souls games is the huge size of the map. That means they had to put a lot of filler in to the map to accommodate for a full open world. This game has more in common than latest assassin's creed games than to souls/bourne games. What a disappointment...

Never was there a point during my 100 hours in the game so far where I had felt completely defeated; I was always improving learning the moves of bosses and standard enemies alike.

A challenge was not the only thing Elden Ring brings to the table, it also features a vast open world that is constantly rewarding the player for exploring. There are an absurd amount of weapons, talismans, sorceries, and incantations to be found; and just as many unique variants of said gear that feel different.

I played Elden Ring on my Xbox One S and the graphics absolutely still hold up a generation behind. In my entire Elden Ring experience the game only stuttered a few times when certain open world weather effects were active. I imagine that this wouldn’t be a problem on current Gen, and even so it wasn’t inconvenient enough to take away from what I’d consider to be a perfect game.

Elden Ring punishes you in more ways than just charging you $70, by giving you re-used Bosses, lots of dead ends, terrible game logic, zero fun, and a broken controller. Its mainly the terrible boss design, I get killed at full health in two hits while taking 30 minutes to recover from the last attack! And to just arrive at the boss fight, you have to deal with a plethora of nuisances that deal unreasonable amounts of damage. And by late game, you can only really level up your character and weapons by killing the bosses that kill you in less that 10 seconds. What really aggravated me and lots of other Elden Ring players was the Godskin Duo, the most annoying boss in the entire game. They are near impossible to fight without dying immediately. I know Elden Ring has one of the largest and most detailed maps, good graphics, and is a great challenge, but it all comes down to how much fun and joy you can have. There is no fun and joy in this. Zero. It is mentally draining to play. You should only buy Elden Ring if you an absurd amount of time on your hands and if you hate yourself.

The only thing to praise the game for is the visual, everything is half of the game, and most of it just migrated from other games in the series, including enemies and bosses with slightly changed textures ("Schaub is not exactly the same" and some still scold ubisoft for monotony, seriously ?). So do you really need such a game with twisted boss stats, so that when you get 10-15 deaths, you go back to farm souls in the previous locations? In my opinion, this is **** I did not pay for the game, I confess, but I always do this, first the torrent if I feel that the game is worth it, I buy it. The gameplay is just your standard Dark Souls gameplay with the added feature of a jump button. The story is told so indirectly it might as well be non-existent. and graphically it's seriously outdated.

I swear the developer must have paid off the critics to give them 10 out of 10 across the board. This is not a 10 out of 10 game. I probably would have been more generous in my review if the reviews of this game were honest. It's at best a 7 out of 10 game. But the hype surrounding this game has made the critics and whole gaming community lose their collective minds. Don't drink the Cool-aid. 10/10 could not recommend more.

I've played all 3 Dark Souls games, and while I liked them, I never really considered myself a fan. I knew that this game was on the horizon for a while, but my excitement for it didn't begin until about a week before it dropped, and when it did it was like the worlds worst itch meeting a backscratcher.

Elden Ring is functionally the same as any of the Dark Souls games, albeit with From Software's approach on an open world. I was curious going in how the very clever world and level design from previous games would be affected by this, and I'm happy to say they nailed it. The open parts of the map are filled with areas that naturally peak curiosity and reward it with interesting events, good environmental story telling, or sometimes even just a beautiful vista. Pair that with more sectioned off areas that have a more traditional From Software level design and you have what, in my opinion, is the best of both worlds. Combat, like the Dark Souls games is solid, and while it may seem difficult at first, this game is better than it's predecessors at easing you into it. Leveling up and character building is a little obtuse like the other games, with little to guide you aside from finding a weapon you think is neat, but I feel like figuring things out like that is a bit of the fun in these types of games.

That being said, as great a game as it is, nothing is without criticism. However in the grand scheme of what this game has to offer, I would say this is more nitpicking than anything. First of all, as with all From Software game I have played thus far, the multiplayer still feels a little obtuse and at times confusing to use. Myself and a lot of my friends were at different points in the story at different times, and not knowing where and where they could not be summoned in a world as open and with as much stuff to do as this one was frustrating. I didn't realize until 60 hours in that you can't summon someone in an area that you have already defeated the boss in, why not? Second is more a personal gripe than it is anything, but I played an Int/Dex build (original I know). My other friends that played with Arcane and Wisdom builds were throwing fire from their hands, summoning dragon heads to breathe damaging elements at things, and summoning lighting to smite their enemies. Meanwhile with my intelligence build I had... 10 different types of the same glintstone shard to fire. I ended up liking my build don't get me wrong, but I wish that intelligence builds had the same variety. Lastly, I wish that the smaller dungeons that veered off in the open world sections had a little bit more variety. I liked the ones I did, but by the last bit of the game I just stopped doing them all together because by that point I had my fill of caves, mines, and crypts.

All in all, Elden Ring is phenomenal. Easily one of the best action rpgs I have ever played.

Guess you REALLY have to be into this kind of game. Incredibly boring, walk around kill things, die. Not much in the way of any story. The world design is nice, just a shame the graphics look several generations old. I'd sum this up as very tedious. Wish i hadn't bought digital now as i can't sell it to some from software bum boy who likes playing the same game over and over.

But the reason I don't give this game a lower score is because all these issues can be fixed by one guy with a slider tool. Just tweak some of the enemy health and damage. And this game is a solid 10/10.

In my opinion, it works perfectly well, combining methodical and agressive mechanicals into one. Secondly, the atmosphere and the open world. It truly is one of the most immersive games I've ever played. It's a beautiful game filled with diverse landscapes and beautiful music. Every area feels like your walking into a living, breathing painting. Next, the story in this game. It's fantastically vague and fleshed out, much like it's predecessors. The story itself is interesting and captivating, perhaps the best in the entire series. Now for the npcs and side quests. Almost every npc character in this game has a quest line. These are almost always amazing and generate a connection between the npc and the player. The problem of finding the npc in a hidden location is mostly gone now that a character marker has been added, although not completely. Finally, the cinematic and fantastic boss fights. My favorite part of all the souls games have always been the boss fights, duels with mythical knights and gigantic beasts are almost always done so well in the souls series. Elden Ring is no exception. So many bosses in this game are amazing! These aspects of the game add up to elden ring being a masterpiece. However, it's not perfect, nowhere near it. Expand

There is loot and weapons and armor galore, several different spirit ashes to find and use, which are essentially NPC's that you summon to help you in battle, and numerous different talismans which give you boosts to different abilities and stats. The freedom to truly mold you character into the type of fighter you want them to be is superb. The gameplay is mostly solid, and teaming up with a friend in co-op is a whole lot of fun. The game is gorgeous and the world is very immersive at times. The ability to sort of create your own stories within the game and talk about it with your friends is a highlight for sure. I'll never forget discussing strategies for certain areas and bosses with a couple of my friends that also play the game. Cons- Terrible camera angles at times. I don't know how many times I can legit blame dying on awful angles while fighting enemies in confined areas simply because I couldn't see them due to the camera positions. The targeting system when there are multiple enemies gets frustrating, and as fun as co-op is, they make it way too complicated to summon a friend. It seems ridiculous that I have to go farm plants to craft the items I need just to play cooperatively. Let me send them an invite and roam the Lands Between at will. I don't like that Torrent cannot be used at all during co-op either. It makes traversing the vast open world with friends seem more like a task than a good time. Story... Yeah. I just don't find it interesting. Not only is it really vague, but it is also bland and essentially non-existent at most times. There isn't much to keep me going other than the thrill of the next kill and a desire to explore. The NPC's are all stoic and dull, and lack personality. You feel no connection to anyone in the game. As far as RPG's go, this is at the bottom of the list in that aspect. I also dislike the total lack of hubs. No populated areas, whatsoever. Not one single town or city with any signs of life. That is more of a personal preference than a knock on the game, because that is obviously intentional to leave this type of thing out, but still- It makes the huge open world seem very bleak, lifeless, and empty. Several bosses are repeated, as are dungeons (outside of legacy dungeons and the main bosses) and that also eventually begins detracting from the overall experience. All in all, it's solid. I have plenty of gripes and opinions on what I think would make it a much better game, but that is all subjective, personal preference. If you are a fan of Souls games, you will most likely love this one. If you are used to open worlds such as The Elder Scrolls, Witcher 3, GTA, Red Dead, etc... You may feel like I do. Expand

I felt like by NOT playing this, I would possibly be missing out on a game of the year candidate. The game is absolutely deserving of it's high marks and I'm blown away about how much I actually enjoy this game.

The first couple of hours were a bit daunting and I started to wonder what I got my self into. It felt like "Well here comes another game I shouldn't have bought". But I pushed through to learn the mechanics and how the game wanted me to play and at this point, every time I turn on the Series X, its the first thing I click on. The world is highly satisfying to explore. The graphics look great on an OLED (Not sure what others have issues with, it definitely looks like a next gen game). The game is challenging which isn't easy to come by these days, but remains rewarding. The gear/progression system is addicting and I believe the game has very long legs as something you play off and on for the entire year.

I'm a shooter/sports/sometimes RPG fan. This game should not be in my wheelhouse. But the hooks are in deep and at this point I couldn't be happier I decided to check this out. FromSoftware is now a "must check out" their new game developer for me alongside studios like Bethesda.

Do yourself a favor, stop contimplating it. Stop getting stuck on people throwing hate because they don't enjoy the challenge. It's a game that doesn't hold your hand and that's rare right now and should be praised. We come to video games for escape and emergence. It's here....it's Elden Ring.

Trama repetida y aburrida, mundo abierto abrumador y vacío (demasiado grande), fallas de optimización, enemigos repetitivos y bugs. Por todo lo demás esta bien.

I am not the type of person writing a lot of reviews, but in this case I believ it is an obligation to warn those players out there that this game is definitely not for everyone.
I bought the game for a lot of money and expected a huge challenge, as I knew about the difficulty of souls games. I was prepared. I thought.
After 19 hours I decided to get rid off the most frustrating gaming

After 19 hours I decided to get rid off the most frustrating gaming experience I have ever experienced from my consol and deleted the game. Not one minute did I feel any kind of fun spending with this game. In my opinion it is completely unfair and thus annoying.
Furthermore there is basically 0 story. Vague storytelling? No. It is no storytelling. Terrible.
Beautiful graphics? I would not consider it such. Often times I was not even able to realize there is an NPC next to me, because it disolved into the background.
Music? When my 6 year old son without watching, just listening to what I am doing points out how terrible the music of the game is, I realize why my frustration spending with this title is so big.
I honestly do not understand the extremely high critics reviews, why they call this game a milestone. Maybe for a niche group of players who like to be annoyed and frustrated by a game, it delivers, but I did not have fun with it for any second.

Its hard but worth it bla bla bla. IT was only made hard to cover up the fact that it would take 2 hours to beat on easy mode.

Not bad reminds me to 2001-2013 GTA 3+4+5 and 2018 Red Dead Redemption Two kinda sounds 2006-2015 Edmonton Rush tho.

Every inch of the map is explorable and serves a purpose. The boss fights are intense and satisfying. Keep in mind while other developers have been updating their engines, this is still the same engine that brought us Demon Souls way back when. There’s a lot more to be said about Elden Ring but I’ll let you figure it out on your own. This last message is for a certain group of people, Stop asking for a easy mode. Expand

There is no such thing as perfection but if I could score it 9.9 that would be more accurate.

After 160hrs in my first playthrough Elden Ring has become my favorite game ever, as for the performance issues that some of the reviews mention, I played the game on quality mode on Xbox series X without V-sync or any fancy monitors and I didn't notice any frame drops, to be fair I started

Visuals: 9.9/10 (not realistic but jaw dropping and with a few glitches)

Music and sound design: 10/10 (perfect balance between chilling exploration and intense masterpieces on boss battles)

Story: 9.0/10 (hard to put everything together but worth it with an amazing lore)

The open world: 10/10 (massive, rich with landmarks and filled with tons of challenging enemies and bosses)

Gameplay: 9.5/10 (The very best of past from software games with a ton of additions to improve it, but it's lacking an in game journal to remove the need of so many online guides)

A masterpiece that will undoubtedly become a classic for the ages and a must play for any serious gamer.

This game gives me anxiety. People think it's a classic, personally it's the least amount of fun I've had playing a game. It was torture.

First of all, let me preface by saying that it is never acceptable to knowingly release software that clearly cannot perform its main function reliably. Why should this be any different with Elden Ring's frame stutters? It has been a month and a half without any real fixes. I do not recall the same level of compassion with Cyberpunk.

With Elden Ring, Fromsoft proves it has finally lost

Why should this be any different with Elden Ring's frame stutters? It has been a month and a half without any real fixes. I do not recall the same level of compassion with Cyberpunk.

With Elden Ring, Fromsoft proves it has finally lost sight of what makes their games fair and rewarding and has caved in completely to artificial difficulty. Fights in this game are either trivial or littered with poorly thought out fast attacks and combos, with dramatic AOE effects in bossrooms to cover up the horrible design choices. The gameplay has barely changed since DS3 and does not equip the player with the appropriate toolset to handle its range of enemies. Even worse, they have somehow regressed in quality, with slower rolls, less i frames, input buffering, input delay, inputs disappearing. The damage done in the last third of the game is so bizarre that I cannot even begin to comprehend the thought process. It feels like From really wanted to make an open world game, designed a huge and interconnecting map, and everything else just played second fiddle: littering the landscape with uncreative, sparse and repeated dungeons and encounters, scrapping together unused boss and enemy designs from previous games and slapping it together without thorough playtesting or thoughtful user-oriented design. In summary, after several hundred hours of From games, this is the game that has now tarnished my image of From as a company that holds their games to high standards and respects the player.

Never had a single problem, glitch, bug, or stuttering frames, outside what would be expected from any other game.

Frames aren't the highest, but it is consistent.

Genuinely one of my favorite gaming experiences and one of the few times I have taken the time to 100% complete an open world game.

Despite some annoying performance issues, Elden Ring is a masterpiece. The combat, enemy variety, exploration, music, and open world are top notch. I’ve been playing it daily across all platforms alongside other games all month, and look forward to doing that all year as I try new builds, help friends, and try to do everything I want in this triumph of a video game.

Elden Ring rewards your curiosity in many ways, be it items, runes or a pathway to another area, but mostly it’s a story to tell your friends when you are sharing tales around the bonfire. It does not force feed tutorials down your throat, but instead it leans far the opposite way by not telling you much at all and lets you explore and find things out on your own. There is no true quest log, no points of interest on a map or no arrows pointing you in the right direction, so there is a good chance you’ll miss some of the best caves and areas of the game. Because of all of this, Elden Ring is forcing me to find all of that out on my own and it is one of the most rewarding games I have ever played. I will continue to explore the Land Between for many hours to come. I’m just not in a hurry.

Elden Ring manages to draw the player into a fascinating world for many hours, with refined gameplay that fits perfectly with the freedom granted to the player. A sumptuous but imperfect work, which fails to completely overcome some of the historical flaws of Hidetaka Miyazaki's productions. Flaws that, however, can't diminish the scope of a masterpiece destined to leave an indelible mark on the videogame world and to set new standards for the souls-like and open-world genres.
