The UI takes some getting used to but is NOT the garbage that has spewed out of the mouths of prominent developers of other game franchises. (Ubisoft and Guerilla could definitely learn something from this) Story wise it's minimalistic but well done and unique. My medieval fantasy cup of tea. Control wise it's really a matter of understanding the mechanics. If you're not used to souls like mechanics the controls are going to seem poor to you. The graphics are top notch particularly on quality mode. Performance wise...I'm really dissatisfied with it on my Series X. My hope is that FromSoftware steps up to the plate to remedy this. Otherwise this game would be a 10 for me. Expand

Le jeu traine les défauts obsolètes des Dark Souls qu'il aurait été bien inspiré de laisser de côté. La narration et la direction artistique maîtrisées ne rattrapent pas les défauts primaires du jeu.

Lack of content. FROMSOFTWARE has managed to "Call of Duty" -ify dark souls. It's rinse and repeat. Take out the open world and you have dark souls. Open world fails in a game that was originally designed to be a linear gameplay. I wish they took notes from Breath Of The Wild and saw what did not work.

The world and aesthetic is beautiful and I find myself frequently getting sidetracked by some new dungeon or a unique town or area that just makes me want to explore it all. The combat is as fluent as ever, FromSoft has perfected their style and it's as fun as it has ever been. I've seen people talk about how bad the graphics are or how many issues they've discovered. The graphics may be somewhat dated, but it doesn't take away from how much I enjoyed the game. The only issue I've come across was when I was trying to load into a friend's world to help them with a boss, but when I loaded I received the "enemy felled" message and was sent back to my world. The issue was quickly resolved though, but was still annoying at the time. The story is vague, like many other FromSoft games, but there is just so much more in just item descriptions alone that interested me. I haven't beaten every boss yet, but I have dumped 60 hours into the game and overcome some of the more challenging enemies in the game. The fights are tough, but always fair. I haven't encountered a boss that was that I genuinely didn't enjoy fighting. My only issue are the sidequests. Sometimes they're hard to keep track of and some of the npcs would move to a location that just seemed random until the added context later in the quest, . Eventually it made sense, but it didn't make it any less tedious trying to find where they were in the massive world. I know FromSoft likes to be minimalistic with stuff like that, but some kind of log to just keep track of what quest I had started would have been appreciated. Overall, the game isn't the most graphically advanced and definitely has some issues, but I've been enjoying the game so much despite the few issues I did run into. The world is aesthetically beautiful and there are endless possibilities with exploration still left. I can't wait to fill out the rest of my map and maybe find some secret areas and fell more enemies. Expand

    Pros:

Very big and full open world with the game rewarding the player for exploration, boss fights feel engaging and difficult but not impossible. Cons: Drops frames constantly on Xbox SX 60fps mode, feels as if the game would be so much more satisfying given a smooth frame rate. Certain weapons in the game are overpowered and can take the fun out of killing bosses with exploitations

This game is so good. I am amazed that people give it a low score because it is hard. It is suppose to be hard. If you want easy, go play Zelda. does a good job as a exploration game, but:
    - savegame bugs took like 10h of effort, boss killing and farming and weapon and material grinding from me. how does a souls game fail at saving, the previous parts were saving at every opportunity. thats the biggest minus from me
    - the game has no clear red line, hugeass open world and no clear directions, cryptic introductions ruins the fun

    - the game has no clear red line, hugeass open world and no clear directions, cryptic introductions ruins the fun and drag the story longer the wrong way
    - progression is superslow, if you struggle with your current stats against enemies, you will struggle more in the upcoming regions. monsters get superhard, runes (exp) and smithing materials are very scarce, i wasnt able to get my weapons past +4 after 50h of gameplay. so i used the rapier +8 which you get as a gift after beating some mainstory boss.
-great runes are a great idea but a greater dissapointment. why do we have to use rune arcs to buff them up? i found in all myhours so far 4-5 rune arcs (similar to humanity and embers) in the open world and those expire once you die and you will probably die every 5 mins once.
    - effing dragons at some endgame location give 3,5k runes... and you need at lvl60 or so around 25k exp for a level up. and dragons would at that point one shot you with basic attacks. the game is super tough, i dont know why they went with that kind of progression design. this game is supposed to be a challenge, not a parkour and avoid monster simulation
    - the trap chests are a nice idea, but can lead anyone who plays without guides into desperation. i for my part hated that idea

    + great enemy variaty
    + great combat gameplay
    + great mounted combat
+ ashes of war and summon noble spirits are a awesome addition to the game
+ awesome looking bosses (which drop almost no usefull weapons or souls which can be turned into weapons)
+ fast travel is also an awesome addition to the game, from any point (except inside traps)
+ the exploration is also awesome, you can explore so many regions thanks to the jump button
+ some regions seriously looked dreamlike, which almost never was the case in any souls game . which mostly has gory stuff and locations

Cinematics are awesome and it has so much good content, that it blew my mind.
The quests and story is also wonderful and I was never more into a game as Elden Ring overall. Definetely a 10/10.

Now lets talk about the current "controvery":
Some Game devs (Especially the sore loosers at ubisoft) badmouthed this game with various untrue reasons like: missing UI, bad graphics, overhyped by game critics and so on (,while being unable to make good games theirself).
Saddest part is, that some ubi-fanboys are reviewbombing this game and giving their favourite "open world game" perfect score. They usually copy ubisofts and over devs words and just add the "bad performance" part for PC, which mostly has been fixed for people above min. reqiurements.

If you don't like it or even hate the game, I guess it's okay if you give like a 5. But it shouldn't be objectively possible to give below 5 because it's in every aspect amazing. Now to all the Fanboys/Clowns: If you really hate it, it's okay. Taste is objective.
If you think the game is bad because of gameplay or graphics then you didn't know what game you bought in the first place and you are a fool.
If the game doesn't run smoothly, next time read the System requirements, which they posted like 1 week even before release.

If you cry about UI, lore or just copy the stupid/false words from the "devs", just go to your corner and play your easy/boring/bad microtransaction games with 800 questmarker/waypoints on the map where you just follow a path like a bot without thinking/playing yourself. If that's the case, you are the reason why gaming gets bad and gives money to those big "triple A" companys, who exploit clowns like you.

If you want to fight me in an argument about this, just add me on steam or write me a comment there. Can't wait how many clowns are going to write "interesting stuff" and white knight their favourite game in comparison to elden ring.

Amazing game. Seriously one of the best games I've ever played and like the best open world ever. Meaningful story gameplays rewards and systems. Best combat for 3rd person fantasy games besides fee exceptions. Can get lost in the world for hours and hours.

This is my first dark souls game- and I'm addicted. Yes it’s hard. Yes you die for hours. Yes YouTube will help you get through it. No bugs that I have found. No problems with quests or maps and anything. This is what gaming should be.

Bad performance on Series X, dumb AI, copy paste smaller dungeons, overly cryptic encounters with NPC and unclear quests, sound design is bad (was next to a huge waterfall and it made no sound). Combat is fine, but just the same as other souls games. Feels like Emperor's New Clothes that this is getting such high reviews.

My first time trying a souls style game it is absolutely incredible! Everything in the game encourages exploring and if something is hard you can go farm and come back. I find everything about the world immersive and exciting. The combat is very fun and you have so many options to approach different situations. 10/10!

I wish I could post images here. The early game bosses are way harder compared to Dark Souls 3’s early game bosses. Gameplay-wise, it’s mostly like the previous FromSoftware titles. The game is so good that the framerate drops don’t even bother me in the slightest. Buy it, if you’re up for the challenge. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Elden Ring is more of then a game, it’s an actual story that you get to create, it lets you choose your path and how you get to do it, the freedom is astonishing, and what you can explore to at the start of the game, there are no quest markers and I believe that it is amazing, there’s no task list, there’s no other objective except one, become the Elden Lord, people get upset that there’s no quest marker because they are used to their hand being held, and true, not every game can copy that, but, elden ring let’s you use your imagination. When you figure it out, there’s a click that you get in your head, the narration and item description helps give you a hint, take your time with the game and enjoy, and to the people say the graphics aren’t enough, go outside, the game is beautiful the way it is, you don’t need peach fuzz rendering to make a game like elden ring beautiful, the gameplay is fun because it challenges you, as a vet in the series, I am ecstatic to find the joy I have when I play this game, and to a word to people who say they hate people who love soul like games, my joy outshines that hatred that equals the abyss, in the end though, I love the challenge, I love the time I’ve spent in my first play through, and another side note, sorry if I sound nerdy, this game deserves the praise it gets Expand

The music in ER is amazing as well and deserves recognition. There are a lot of reviews on here, and all over the internet, that make ER sound like the worst game ever made. A minute sum of these reviews and comments are valid and bring up reasonable points. However, a majority of them are emotionally motivated and charged by the overwhelming popularity this game has imbued. In the end, Elden Ring will go down as one of the greatest ever in-spite of the negative "reviews" a few "gamers" made because they couldn't git gud. Expand

A good game with a high difficulty, although it has the same dark souls format he open world gives it a new feel however i can't help but to think that they couldn't make enough bosses and just ended up re using a lot of their bosses sometimes up to 5 times. The dungeons are fairly boring but necessary to progress a certain npc's quest line which you will want to do considering he gives you incantations(a form of spell). Despite the few crashes i have had it still runs really good, and as for the story the game follows dark souls usual cryptic path of giving you small bits and pieces that you yourself has to piece together. Although the horse is helpful it can be annoying to use because it's not exactly smooth and I have had a bit of an issue with getting of the horse because sometimes the game does not let you and other times you get stuck mid air and die. They do re use a few enemies and concepts from previous dark souls games like the crab, it's really up to you to decide if this is a nice callback/hint to the previous games or if its lazy. The npc's with decently long quest lines are fewer then i originally expected and with bad rewards at the end of there quests however that is my personal opinion, the weapons in this game are very different and a meta has already established in both in pve and pvp. in pve you can just spam scarlet rot on almost every single boss trivializing the game or just use magic because it does way to much damage. In pvp you want to power stance with fast weapons, use a heavy shield and armor or use the blood hounds curved great sword and spam the weapon art. This was my only negative experiences with the game, if all of this sounds fine to you i would highly suggest buying it even at full price

Again, I’m probably an average or below average player. I own that. I heard Elden Ring was more approachable of Dark Souls game. It may be but apparently I am not even that good.

My recommendation unless you are a top 30% skilled gammer. Save your money and play cyber punk or assassins creed. Both of those games are amazing. Elden Ring was a big waist of money for me. It may run well, look good, but critics do not give enough warning on how unapproachable this game is for the vast majority of average skilled gamers. Clearly the critic rating system for informing average gamer purchases is flawed. Look at the user scores on these games from now on!

Game is janky and the controls really just don't feel right. Grinding for the sake of grinding is bad game design, imo

Amazing game.. I've completed 1 playthrough and found a secret ending oh my first go.. My first playthrough took me 64 hours and now I'm already 20 hours into my second. The game is amazing and has amazing replay ability.

I love the feel and look of the world. That’s where the good ends. The gameplay and camera controls are really bad.

The best game of FS so far. Amazing environment, exploration and artistic design.

Master piece, this game make me love videogames again. Is a continuous challenge from the begging to the end, that makes beating each boss feels that you are getting better are more stronger. The people who says that it doesn't have graphics, or it doesn't have a quest log or you die a lo, please go home a cry to you mother because this is dark souls.

Game is fantastic, runs perfectly fine (not sure what everyone is playing it, a microwave perhaps or just haters). The game is a fantastic 10/10, if you e never played a souls game before your going to struggle which is possibly where the negative reviews came from. To their people it’s a hard game learn the movements and you’ll be fine.

Despite some annoying performance issues, Elden Ring is a masterpiece. The combat, enemy variety, exploration, music, and open world are top notch. I’ve been playing it daily across all platforms alongside other games all month, and look forward to doing that all year as I try new builds, help friends, and try to do everything I want in this triumph of a video game.

Elden Ring rewards your curiosity in many ways, be it items, runes or a pathway to another area, but mostly it’s a story to tell your friends when you are sharing tales around the bonfire. It does not force feed tutorials down your throat, but instead it leans far the opposite way by not telling you much at all and lets you explore and find things out on your own. There is no true quest log, no points of interest on a map or no arrows pointing you in the right direction, so there is a good chance you’ll miss some of the best caves and areas of the game. Because of all of this, Elden Ring is forcing me to find all of that out on my own and it is one of the most rewarding games I have ever played. I will continue to explore the Land Between for many hours to come. I’m just not in a hurry.

Elden Ring manages to draw the player into a fascinating world for many hours, with refined gameplay that fits perfectly with the freedom granted to the player. A sumptuous but imperfect work, which fails to completely overcome some of the historical flaws of Hidetaka Miyazaki's productions. Flaws that, however, can't diminish the scope of a masterpiece destined to leave an indelible mark on the videogame world and to set new standards for the souls-like and open-world genres.
