I'm jealous of people who didn't experience frame drops. On the series S the grass render is SO bad. Needs more side quest and NPC's...
Honestly that is all the bad. Everything else is perfect to a T. Ranni is so cool! The other NPC's are all cool too. They definitely did a Dark Souls open world the right way. Plenty of stuff to keep you looking around, exploring. Sad the DLC took so long

I took my sweet time and conquered the Lands Between in every square meter, undigging all its secrets and stepping into every cave I could find. I got hooked on the loss of direction forcing me to explore every nook and cranny. Only Breath of the Wild could give me that sense of freedom before. Never will I experience anything like this again, which makes me kinda sad, but the feeling after beating the final boss brought true tears of joy to my eyes. Expand

This game is literally up there with Zelda, BOTW and Witcher 3.
And the biggest compliment I can give to this game is: I have beaten this game 3 times.
PONS: • Great story (but not the best) • Addicting combat • HUGE open-world • Full of content • Amazing Boss-Design • Breathtaking visuals • So much replay value • Vast variety of weapons and builds CONS: • The bosses Post-Game feel a lot

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I honestly thought Elden Ring was going to be just another Dark Souls game that ties in with the whole franchise. However, what we got was entirely different. We got an immersive, cinematic, lore-depth RPG with amazing graphics, story-telling, combat, community support, and lore. This is not Dark Souls. This is Elden Ring! This game is a must play and is differently worth 60$, if not more. I want to take a time machine back in time just to play this masterpiece of a game again.

The difficulty scaling is kind of high, but you get time to learn and adapt. There isn’t some impossible fighting mechanic that makes the combat system bad. The weapons system and the status build up mechanics are absolutely perfect and the characters are rememberable. The only problem I have is with the final boss, The Elden Beast, but even with this tiny, insignificant little flaw, this game is a perfect 10.

A worthy new title to follow up the sublime Dark Souls series. Fixed and improved upon almost every issue I had with Dark Souls III, and the Ash of War system is a worthy successor to the Weapon Art system. The open world is admirable and is up there with the greats of open world games.

Elden ring is a very good game to start in the souls saga since it has the difficulty of a souls and it is also open world, a very good game if you have not played any souls game postdata: the soundtrack is very good what a masterpiece, but I rate it with an 8 because if you are a casual gamer Elden ring could be quite difficult for you and that is somewhat frustrating at least for me

Revolutionary in open world game design. Takes the dark souls formula and builds on it masterfully. The lore that can be found around the world really adds to the game as well. First game in a long time where you get exactly what you payed for and exactly what was advertised, no micro transactions, no battle pass, just a massive playground where the only one limiting your enjoyment and progression is you. My advice, explore the world when you get stuck on a boss, go off the beaten path, strike first, strike hard, No mercy.

Amazing game. However, due to how long it is, repeated boss fights are annoying. The game is long enough they could have just omitted these. (And I'd recommend just skipping them when possible)
This is the only thing stopping it from getting a 10/10 from me.
It would have been nice if it had more true challenges late game, past Radahn (pre nerf) the game definitely goes straight into easy

Before Elden Ring, Zelda Breath of the Wild was easily my favourite game.

After 100 hours of this game, I'm not really even that bothered about the Tears of the Kingdom sequel though. Elden ring is fairly similar to Breath of the Wild but the combat feels way more realistic and evolved and there's much more to do. The only problem with it is that it's slightly spoilt all other games.

First time playing I found it difficult until I figured out what areas to go to first and where to come back too. The areas in elden ring are set up perfectly to where you can progress without a serious challenge depending where you go next. If you have a problem with leveling up then you have yet to explore many areas because I found myself getting too strong for the main game . Lastly I hear a lot of complaints about the story being too hard to understand and I’m gonna tell you right now it’s only hard if you can’t put 2 and 2 together . You’re gonna need to google some words and maybe play the game a few times but you will understand the story as long as you can read and have an expanded vocabulary. Nearly every item description plays a role in telling you the story, you NEED to take your time and remember what npcs tell you . If you’re not able to do these things you will not understand anything and have a hard time for sure. And if you’re not willing to put in the work of unraveling this incredible story then don’t even bother writing a review about something you haven’t even fully experienced Expand

    Little support for PC controls
PC performance bugs, such as game freezing up and not responding every time to click quit game
Cutscenes are awkward as they are stuck behind cutting in and out of black screens and changing camera perspective
Little explanation for the game and the mechanics, it didn’t tell me the imperative detail of progression being leveling up until I had played for almost 4 hours
Insufficient explanation of core game design decisions and mechanics that the developers left to hope the players would just spend hours without this knowledge until they figured it out
Lack of early game narrative gives your character a lack of purpose as your just running around a world you know nothing about and don’t care about to kill enemies you know nothing about and care nothing about
It’s hard to call a game like this an “RPG” because RPGs usually have good immersion however the immersion is broken with this game once you get a loading screen and are teleported away every time you die, which happens a lot by design with this game
Enemies always respawning also breaks immersion and makes you clearing an area feel unrewarding

Overall this game is a **** fest where you spawn in with no purpose and are tasked with killing enemies that attack quicker than half your attacks, attack animation duration(something you can’t cancel). Who also hit you during your roll animation(not synced to negation bad game design) making the core draw of this game the combat a poor experience.

    Pros
    Good character creation
    Expansive world
    A lot of unique enemies
    Difficulty
    Customization of combat style

Although this game has some pros they are greatly overshadowed by the long list of cons

It was the atmosphere, the main story, the NPCs stories, the bosse's unique personalities and traits, the landscapes that stretched as far as the eye could see, the long and solitary rides with Torrent to places unknown (and way above my level).
Then, there were the caves, catacombs, tunnels, graves and all the underground areas that made for an intense sense of exploration, danger and reward. It progressively felt that the game was released with way too much, so much was the content to get into. The map was enormous, overwhelming, and I so much enjoyed it that I didn't want it to end.
In terms of replayability I prefered to go through smaller and contained legacy dungeons than going through the immense open areas and all the dungeons once more. I ended up repeating some in subsequent playthroughs.
All main bosses were memorable to me. Malenia was the most challenging boss I ever fought. After I beat her I went into co-op and helped others beating her too. It was such good fun finding a nice group and savouring our victory together!
To wrap things up, Elden Ring was not only the game of the year to me, but also one of the best games - if not the best game - I ever played. It was the game I needed to play, and it came exactly at the right time.

Good game for the dark souls genre. But ultimately a gimmick riddled experience where they tie the players hands in ridiculous way, thinking that’s what fun is. Does not deserve game of the year for sure. The best part of the game is the lore/story, and after 400 hours later (6play throughs) I still had to find a YouTube video explains 50% of the lore.

While I don't necessarily think this is FromSoftware's best game to date, this is easily the game I would recommend to play first for anyone wondering where to start in the series. It has immense challenge for players who are up for it; Malenia is easily the hardest boss in any Soulsborne game ever. But for newer players, the game provides many ways to make their playing experience more manageable. So for anyone looking to get into FromSoft games, this is the best place to start imo.

This game absolutely masters the art of the open world game like few have done before it. The only other open world games I've played that live up to the open world design of Elden Ring are Skyrim and Breath of the Wild. This was by far the most surprising thing about this game to me. FromSoft had always been known for their intricate 3D Metroidvania style games, so a fully realized and incredibly detailed open world game isn't what I was expecting from them. But it just works so well here. Also, their more narrow, non-linear, metroidvania style level design is still abundantly present in the NUMEROUS castles found throughout the map.

Bosses are good. Best storyline that FromSoft has delivered so far. Still very much leaning into that alternative form of storytelling where you need to think about the context of why certain enemies are where they are, and you need to look through item descriptions to understand the story.

If you rush you can make it the hardest Souls game you've ever played.
If you take it a bit slower, it will be similar in difficulty to the old games.
If you take it very slow and out-level content it also fits the bit more casual player, although don't think it will be easy. The open world and "questing system" are the new benchmark for the entire genre. For me it's one of the best

a great addition to the soulsborne menagerie of games, its difficult and beautiful, punishing and stunning, the amount of cool weapons and unique trinkets you can find is amazing, and even though i thoroughly raged at Starscourged i think the game is amazing

Amazing game, I only have a single complaint, the optimization for PC is far from being good. Other than that I would really recommend that you finish this game without cheesing any bosses. I cheesed every boss I could on my first playthrough and deeply regretted it.

Masterpiece. 120 hours spent without getting bored of it. This game is the perfection to the souls formula. I would have liked if they wanted to invest a bit more in the narrative of thoe game, but we know they are FromSoftware.

For disclaimer: I made 100% of the three games in the Souls franchise.

When I saw the trailer for Elden Ring, it was like I was witnessing Miyazaki's new challenge to the gaming industry. Since Demons Souls (2009) and Dark Souls (2011) went down in history as innovative and challenging games, the first thing to think about would be: "How will Elden Ring innovate?"... The answer came through the gameplay.

I never imagined that From Software would be able to create something so epic, mixing an amazing OST (made by Yuka Kitamura), a magical setting and such fantastic mechanics. Elden Ring gives me the same feeling as Skyrim, a feeling of a vast world to explore, with different possibilities, for me, these two games are like brothers, things that only appear from decade to decade in the gaming world.

The bosses never disappoint, no matter if it's a dungeon boss, or a main boss, their theme songs are amazing, and you really feel that the moment is a certain tension. The dubbing of the game is to be praised, all the voice actors managed to highlight the presence of their characters well, and this is something that I see little commented on.

There are different builds, for all tastes, for all the bosses you want, and this goes back to what I said before, Skyrim and Elden Ring are brothers, both games give you immense possibilities for gameplay, magic, archery, one hand, two hands, punch. You'll never run out of ideas for an NG+.

In short: Elden Ring is the kind of game you only see every decade, and it's been a real pleasure to write about this masterpiece by Miyazaki.

Despite some annoying performance issues, Elden Ring is a masterpiece. The combat, enemy variety, exploration, music, and open world are top notch. I’ve been playing it daily across all platforms alongside other games all month, and look forward to doing that all year as I try new builds, help friends, and try to do everything I want in this triumph of a video game.

Elden Ring rewards your curiosity in many ways, be it items, runes or a pathway to another area, but mostly it’s a story to tell your friends when you are sharing tales around the bonfire. It does not force feed tutorials down your throat, but instead it leans far the opposite way by not telling you much at all and lets you explore and find things out on your own. There is no true quest log, no points of interest on a map or no arrows pointing you in the right direction, so there is a good chance you’ll miss some of the best caves and areas of the game. Because of all of this, Elden Ring is forcing me to find all of that out on my own and it is one of the most rewarding games I have ever played. I will continue to explore the Land Between for many hours to come. I’m just not in a hurry.

Elden Ring manages to draw the player into a fascinating world for many hours, with refined gameplay that fits perfectly with the freedom granted to the player. A sumptuous but imperfect work, which fails to completely overcome some of the historical flaws of Hidetaka Miyazaki's productions. Flaws that, however, can't diminish the scope of a masterpiece destined to leave an indelible mark on the videogame world and to set new standards for the souls-like and open-world genres.
