    Eh. It's fun to mess around with friends on it, but by yourself...well let's just say you might want to get it for free on the Game Pass. It's repetitive, boring, and honestly has no point. As a multiplayer game, and a "free" one at that, it's probably an 8/10 game for me. But as a single-player game, it's a 4/10.

    Sea of Thieves is an awesome sandbox that is just shy of greatness.

    The engine, the mechanics, the gameplay are all brilliant in Sea of Thieves – sailing is so satisfying that you’re constantly looking to the horizon for an excuse to change direction or go explore something so that you can get your ship there... which leads to the biggest issue right now, there is a lack of content.    Sea of Thieves is an awesome sandbox that is just shy of greatness.

    The engine, the mechanics, the gameplay are all brilliant in Sea of Thieves – sailing is so satisfying that you’re constantly looking to the horizon for an excuse to change direction or go explore something so that you can get your ship there... which leads to the biggest issue right now, there is a lack of content.

    I have put in what must be over 30 hours so far, this has been a mixture of 4 man galleon, 2 man sloop and 1 man sloop gameplay (the majority of which has been the latter)… I am currently sat at around level 21, 17 and 14 in the following factions:

    Gold Hoarders – they task you with some treasure maps or riddles to find and dig up some buried treasure.
    Order of Souls – they throw out some bounties for NPC skeleton pirate crews that need hunting down.
    Trade Merchants – They need supplies in certain areas, often live critters like snakes, pigs or chickens and they have a deadline!

    These are all fun but arguably could be boiled down to simple “go here, find a thing and take it back” but the thrill of sailing, and the simple mechanics really do make it a fun adventure.

    This is very much a story game – not a written narrative, but very much the stories you end up with after an hour long voyage… It’s a game where you can be at the edge of your seat with a galleon pursuing you for your treasure, or be incredibly tense as a little sloop sails by playing their hurdy gurdy as a sign of peace…

    My friends and I keep telling fun little stories of events that happened in the game.
    If you want a game to both relax and have fun to then this could be it, but it can get hairy at times that’s for sure. If you want a game with a strong focus on teamwork and co-op, then this could be the game for you. If you want a reason to play the game including levelling up, unlockables and collectibles then this is not the game for you – this is a game about an even playing field and having fun. I hope to see more content as I do fear for the ultimate longevity of the game, but so far it’s a really fun adventure waiting to be had.    … Expand

    You can go fishing and that makes it betther than any other game when you can not go fishing and deserves the perfect score.

    The game feels great at start, but goes down and down every minute of gameplay, and you end up with a poor experience, only funnier when yoy are with some friends. Although the fun dissapears after a couple of hours.

    Para um game totalmente online ele deixa muito a deseja, sem falar no game play que é horrível. A câmera do game e disposição dos itens ficam muito mal dispostas ao jogador, e isso frusta muito. Outra se vc tentar uma aventura sozinho já era vc terá que ancorar o barco cada vez que for olhar a carta náutica pra ver se seu barco esta na direção certa .

    This game a fun for a few hours and then it turns into a chore. Yes it's fun with friends or a good group but isn't almost anything? Empty world, boring fetch quests, lack of enemy variety, Kraken has no body, bad spawn system, I could go on. I loved this game when I first tried the beta. Big disappointment.

    I was very excited for Sea of Thieves amidst my friends telling me it wasn't going to be good. Wish I listened. The core of the game is pretty good but not worth the money. Playing on Xbox is an uphill battle dealling with PC players with the advantages inherent with PCs, PC cheats, etc. Crossplay was always listed as a feature but it was never stated that it would be MANDATORY. It's a shame because we PAY for Xbox Live access on top of the game cost, and we're the ones getting shafted.

    Despite the amazing graphics and the stunning ambiance, the game has no content. It's fun to play for the first couple of hours, but then you start to question yourself why are you doing that for, there is no progression system. All you buy doesn't affect your gameplay or experience.

    The game throws players off the deep end, giving them ZERO info about how to play. looking back, the only way I would get it would be if it is free. A HUGE stinker for your 60$.

    Started off as an empty, boring game with little to do. However, after the anniversary update, I have to recommend it. It is extremely fun to play with friends.

    An excellent coop experience with perfect cartooning pirate vibes. Sea of Thieves has been changing and constantly been receiving updates by Rare to make fans sail into the game again. Adding a story mode, multiple islands, more features and enemy factions. Without any doubt, Sea of Thieves is the best coop experience anyone can find only on the Microsoft family devices.

    A very good game, which has been transformed over the years with brilliant continued support and now after 2 years of development there is a great amount of content to explore. A game that always keeps you on edge as you never know what could quite happen, from megs to krakens from ai ships to player ships, sailing a boat has never felt more scary. The price is also very reasonable for how good a game it is with many options £1 on game pass for a month, so u can try it out and see how good a game it is. And around £25 outright which is extremely reasonable for such a outstanding game. To summarise if you want a brilliant game with thousands of hours of content to play with friends on this is the game that will provide, the new updates have presented so many funny moments and I cannot stress enough how much of a great game this is.     It's a cool concept very poorly executed. Had the game offered real progression and a wider variety of objectives, it could have been something truly special. Instead, you play the same mission over and over on different islands. There's nothing to strive for other than cosmetic upgrades. There's no actual challenge or goal. It's hardly something you will come back to after playing a few missions.

    4 - repeat this until you run out of destinations
    5 - sell your treasure to a NPC, and repeat 1-4 all over again.

    I can't really understand the long development time. I give it a 3 because the water looks cool. The 60 dollar price is horrible, if you want to try it, buy the game pass.

    Those reviewing this game as a 10 (perfection) must be new to gaming and have nothing to compare it too. I can think of two dozen games release in the past 12 months that make this game look laughable. Cartoonish graphics, obviously not an artistic choice but a cheap way to substain a decent frame rate, shallow gameplay, and lacking in just about everything that modern gamers deserve.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazing visuals and an tmosphere that is perfect for the subject matter, but that is all this game has. Underneath this shiny coat of paint is nothing. The world itself looks fantastic, but nothing about it feels fleshed out. There's no story, no real progression, it like Minecraft in terms of making your own story, but the options become limited after just a few hours. Beyond that, you can get treasure, which becomes very repeated after a while andd you can experience the game's absolutely terrible combat system. This is what ruined the game for me. Me and my crew spent a long time fighting on a skull island, using our resources in what we hoped would be for a good payoff. Then some tryhards showed up and completely destroyed us because we had little to fight back with after 45 minutes of shooting skeletons. So we lost all of that progress and I lost all will to continue. It made me realize that this game does not give me any reason to keep playing. It is entirely wasted potential. It can be fun for a little while and it was, but once the feeling of emptiness creeps in, there's no stopping it. The terrible combat combined with griefers will only make that happen faster… Expand

    Launched a game with bad servers. Couldnt play the night it released and got home from work the next day and still couldnt play. We can excuse it as launch day problems and continue to support this bad habbit of launching products that dont work, Or we can let developers know this is not ok. Rent out extra servers to handle initial inrush of customers and dial back once launch is over.

    An interesting game idea that could have been fun. Unfortunately, the game is overrun with griefers and is a total gank fest of crews in galleons slaughtering new players just for fun. And BEWARE -- the Microsoft Store offers no refunds, so if you want a refund, too bad!

Even then, you are not guaranteed to have a fun time. There is a lot of repetition and the only thing gold buys is cosmetics. You can sail the entire sea and never see another ship as well.     excellent game! sensational graphics, very good gameplay, finally something different and with several ways of doing the same thing. Plenty of content for a release, and logically, more news should come in the near future. A pity to see people who do not even have the game, make negative comments and want to spoil the experience of who is actually playing. I RECOMMEND ! WAIT WAS WORTH IT!

    Sea of Emptiness is the prime example of a polished turd. It's just as much of a disappointment as No Mans Sky was on launch day.

    Cons:
    -There is no character creation, just a randomized roulette wheel.
    -There is no lore or story.
    -NPCs are boring and say nothing that's of any interest.
    -The games three factions offer only simple fetch quests with no reward except gold.
    -The only progression is ranking up in one of three factions, doing so will reward you in fetch quests with more steps which might give you a little more gold than starting quests.
    -Gold is mainly used to purchase cosmetics.
    -Cosmetics offer nothing except a change in appearance. And because there is nothing but cosmetics a person that has played the game for 1 minute is no different than a person that's played it for 300 hours.
    -The only enemy you have excluding other players are skeletons (snakes don't count as you can just walk around them) that offer as much challenge as Minecraft PvE. Walk backward and shoot,
    -Enemies drop nothing and seem to only get in your way.
    - PvP is a thing but since there is no reward for killing other players there's no point. No k/d, no score, nothing.
    -Islands are practically empty. No environmental hazards of any kind.
    -When sailing the only hazards you have are a storm that you can easily avoid.
    -A shark spawns to discourage you from being in the water too long. It's a game that's 90% water, why?
    -There are no penalties for anything. You can die all you want, lose your ship, kill other players and nothing bad will happen.
    -Crews are limited to 4 people. This can be an issue when using the galleon which requires a minimum of 6.

    Pros:
    -It looks nice.

    To ask a person to pay $60 (a price which no game should ever be worth and we should never have been okay with) for basically nothing is insulting to say the very least. It's degrading, derogatory, disrespectful, offensive, repulsive, and rude.

    I already know how this is going to work because I've seen these scum sucking tactics before. They release this empty game and then over the years add the rest of it piece by piece, only they've wrapped it up as extra content, and then charge people $20 or $30.    … Expand

    Where's the game? Seriously, after 3 or 4 hours you just wanna go play anything else rather than do the same crap again. Contrasted to Monster Hunter which is a grindy game also, at least the grind is fun and productive in that game.

    I predict that once the pro reviews start rolling in this will end up with about a 60 metacritic score.

    3) Kill "boss" skeletons. Again, very trivial and not enjoyable as the gun/melee mechanics in this game are very limited.

    Basically, all of the mission types above would be considered filler quests in any other MMO or RPG. Quests you wouldn't bother with after doing them a couple times. But that is all there is to this game.

    The PVP is pretty weak as well, but I mostly play solo so I didn't do too much of that. It is annoying that you have to deal with gank squads that just sit at outposts ready for you to return the boring missions. Running very boring missions with a chance of getting ganked at the end? Wow what fun! They should let solo players into instances with only other solo players that might be a bit more enjoyable.

    And not only are the missions boring and repetitive but the gold you receive is very minor for completing them. After almost 2 days I'm not even close to affording a single ship cosmetic (70,000 gold for the lamest ship cosmetic and after 2 days I'm not even close to that). Sure I can afford a couple lame clothing items but decking out your ship is what people want and that will take forever.

    I might have given this a 5/10 if the price was $20, with the promise of more content to come. But for $60 this game is an absolute rip off. After less than 2 days I'm already bored and probably won't bother playing anymore. Save your money or wait a couple years and see if they ever add any interesting content.    … Expand

    Very repetitive game, and with a very high price, I did not like it. It seemed to be cooler before, but it has not changed much from the beta as well, plus the PC version is giving a lot of trouble.

    In a time where games are very similar, originality is hard to find, and sequels are every year. Its really nice to see a game come out that isn't like any other game you have played before. I didn't expect it to be skyrim where I can play for a year straight I looked as a fun game to the arsenal that me and my buddys pick up every now and then and have a blast.     I was very excited for when this game was announced, and was awaiting its release. This is a very fun game with friends, and I love how this game gives you the freedom to do whatever you want. The graphics are beautiful and this whole idea is great. I love the ship and water physics, and the islands are unique and individually beautiful. Some people complain about the how weapons are clumsy, but hey, thats pirate-age weaponry for you. I was glad Rare announced how they will have constant updates and live campaigns. I hope they can make the map bigger and have more islands, because they kept most of them the same from the beta testing. Glad this came out and is a great multiplayer and adventure experience. Rare and Microsoft should be proud.… Expand

Parece uma brincadeira de mal gosto, parece mais um run simulator. Não recomendo a ninguém, jogo sem graça e enjoativo, só tem um mundo, sempre a mesma coisa, sem história e monótono.

    Finally RARE is back. You can feel the heart that they put into this game. The game is good for single player but that is not why I picked it up.     Use os 14 dias gratuitos da Game Pass pra testar o jogo, porque definitivamente não vale sua compra. O jogo lembra uma beta, com tão pouco conteúdo presente. O end-game? Destravar cosmeticos pro seu pirata. Senso de progressão? Nenhum. Sinceramente, nem perca seu tempo.

    And yes, this game is meant to be played with a full crew, with mics and this is another reason why it will be in the bargain bin by summer. And why they included "single player" is beyond me, it has even less to do than the multiplayer with a crew.

    As someone lucky enough to have extra income I picked up an Xbox One X (after selling my Xbox One S over a year ago) thinking that maybe NOW Microsoft would have some good games. But Sea of Thieves is just further proof that Xbox One is done for.    … Expand

Its pleasant balance between mission or "voyage" based rank up system and a social platform where you can go to hang out with your friends makes this game something to remember. Though the game has voyages and an ultimate goal, nothing is stopping you from battling other pirates or taking down a skeleton fort with your crew. Sea of Thieves could definitely improve its storyline as some voyages can get a little repetitive and there is still a lot of glitches (this should be improved as the game evolves and gets updates). I would recommend picking up this game if you play online a lot with friends and are ready for the intensive grind to become a pirate legend.… Expand

It's simple enough to get the hang of, but controlling your galleon well requires all four members to communicate and work together. Sailing the seas with my friends is some of the most fun I've had in a long time. That's not really something you can quantify in a review. In conclusion, I would 100% recommend this game, IF you have friends to play it with. It can still be fun alone, but without friends you'll quickly run out of things to do.… Expand

    More a technology demonstrator or proof of concept than an actual game. After an hour or so you have done it all. No story, no progression, nothing. Massive potential but you have to think they left the vast majority of the game on the backlog.

    We have nothing but respect for Rare's vision with Sea of Thieves, but it is a game as likely to chew you up and spit you out, as it is to embrace you. If the wind is in your favour then it can be a delight, but a storm is never far off if you lose momentum. The real test of the quality and efficacy of Rare's plan will be in how it manages to evolve and grow in the weeks and months to come. [Issue#199, p.67]
