CoD is a good game and this is coming from someone who was not blown away by the series but was interested in the games and I overall had a good time. Now how many of you would play Uncharted 3 if it changed the whole single player or BF3 if its MP was completely different and no Im not saying that their should be no improvements but look at Dragon Age 2 fans DESPISED that game in every single way and with such a large fanbase as CoD reinventing it's image would make fans hate it and it would sell no copies. Yes MW3 had a few problems like the graphics should have been updated and it could have changed a few things but who cares about graphics anyways!! If you don't like CoD then just don't post a review and play the games you like instead of wasting the time of people who just want a honest Truthful review about the game. To anyone confused if you are interested in the game but are not sure if it is good here are a few tips. If you don't have ONLINE don't get this game, you will get bored of it quickly and to people who are more of a singleplayer kind of person you most likely will also be disappointed by the game. MP fans of the FPS genre will like this game most likely and once you get into the MP it is very fun. Graphics are a bit of a disappointment but honestly for ANY gamer they should not be that big of a deal. In the end it is all up to you if you like the game. Expand

To say that MW3 is more of the same is correct to an extent, the main thing is that it goes both ways. Why fix what isn't broken and conversely why are the same mistakes being made? Why fix what isn't broken and conversely why are the same mistakes being made? MW3 is an easy to pick up game that encourages fast game play and gives a positive reinforcement to continue playing with the way the leveling system works. However the idea of rewarding players who get kills is ludicrous outside of adding points to the score board. IW and Sledgehammer openly admitted that their reward system was designed around the high kills low death players for previous games, so why is that system still implemented into the game? Even if someone is running a Support package the other team is spammed Stealth Bombers and EMPs giving negative reinforcement to even bother continuing the game. Initially I liked the idea of the new game modes Kill Confirmed and Team Defender but I quickly noticed that Kill Confirmed still has too many campers and Team Defender seems to suffer from people spamming the Riot Shield Juggernaut making getting the flag near impossible. How is it that the original issues still exist and new ones are made? It's become obvious that the CoD series is nothing more than a cash grab to Activision, no real advancements were made and only one or two things were added to the overall experience. But it's not enough to keep the series alive for any longer. Hopefully the creators of Black Ops (Treyarch) can take what they did with Black Ops (simply adding total player customization) and add to the CoD series instead of rehashing the same thing, because it's clear IW and Sledgehammer have no clue where to take Call of Duty. This game is great BUT

    -need to fix spawning system
-need to fix the problem when it says "4 bar connection" even though it feels like 1 bar.
    -teleporting lag
-Getting shot after you turn the corner as if the bullets magically hit you.

There are many Call Of Duty Fanboy's giving this game 10's. There are even more Battlefield Fanboy's giving this game a 0 or a 1. With that being said, I'm going to recommend you don't read any perfect 10 reviews and don't read any reviews under 5. I am going to try to be as honest as possible with my review. First, I'd like to say that Modern Warfare 3 is a VERY DECENT GAME. Although it is probably the least innovative game of the year, the formula that Call of Duty brings in every game is always extremely addictive and, to the anger of Battlefield fan's as they read this, very fun. As a fairly neutral gamer, I like to think of the Call of Duty series as a sports game, kind of like Madden or NBA Live. This is because Call of Duty releases on an annual basis, so you honestly cannot expect a COD4 like game every year. Just like sport's games update their rosters and add slight tweaks, COD adds new gun's and tweaks its formula a bit every year and I would just like to say: THIS ISN'T A BAD THING, COD IS STILL VERY FUN. That is what I have to say. If you are a hardcore gamer, get this game. If you are a casual gamer and you have money to spare, get this game. The Call of Duty franchise is number 1 in sales every year for a reason, although it is not innovative or very creative for that matter, it is fun and addictive and get's gamers to waste day's of their lives playing it. On a closing note, I would also like to ask my fellow reviewers to be a little more mature and a little more professional in there reviews and not flame on a game for outselling their favorite game. I have played the entire camping by now and I got to say it is a medium good just because it's for my taste too short, the use a improve version the same engine used in MW2 so yes, I'm disappointed that they didn't improve the history, I like playing online but this shouldn't be the only reason why they pull this disaster out, the multilayer has improve and I'm giving that to COD, the sound, come on this doesn't sound real at all, a little improvement in that would be nice. But why they don't just launch the game as the older battlefield series without the trouble of camping, so let just finish with this with a small summary:

    Camping 2
    Multilayer 7
    Graphics 7
Sound 0 just because didn't improve at all.

I have played every CoD video game since the first. Once call of duty 4 came out it was a complete game changer, but since then, not much else has changed. Modern Warfare 3 promised so much and barley lived up to it at all. Starting off with the Single player, it felt extremely lacking of a solid story or even relevance to the game, some may disagree with me on that point but in my opinionI have played every CoD video game since the first. Starting off with the Single player, it felt extremely lacking of a solid story or even relevance to the game, some may disagree with me on that point but in my opinion it didn't live up to the current day first person shooter campaigns. If you take a game like Modern warfare 3 and compare it to other first person shooters like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Battlefield 3, Rage and Resistance 3 the campaign just doest do the game justice. Now on to the Spec Ops. Yes it is a great addition to the game, it is basically the game mode that makes up for no cooperative campaign. I find some of these fun but on the other hand i feel that they were something that activation just threw in due to lack of creativity. It was new and innovative in MW2 but i found it rather old in MW3. They were just boring and didn't really add much to the game unless your trying to get all of the achievements/trophies in the game. Now onto the point that most people get the game for, multiplayer. Yes the multiplayer is fun and addicting but theres nothing really new to the multiplayer. The multiplayer feels rather lacking of the main point, but people will keep buying this game no matter how much they change or add to the game. Its just the same every year, just like the Madden series, i just can't justify people buying a new Call of Duty game every November. Maybe if they just took a break and released a game every 2 or so years they would actually have time to make it a fun and worthwhile game. With modern warfare 3 i felt that you were just buying a new map pack and some new guns. Overall i think this game really disappointed and didn't live up to the hype just as its predecessors have done. But it is another game and fun to a certain point, I am not bashing this game in any way shape or form, just giving my honest review. This game is just rather simple and bland. I can't see it living up to other modern games released this winter. Hope this review helped!! Expand

Despite a few new additions to the formula, this is generally the same game that we've been playing since Call of Duty 4. This in itself can be a good and a bad thing. It is bad because it's not really anything unique or different, but then again, it doesn't really need to be. Pokemon, Zelda, Mario, and sports games have been doing the same thing for years, and still put out fun and great titles. The same goes for Call of Duty; while not being anything original, it's still damn fun and addictive. Also, look at it a bit more realistically. It's obviously more financially reasonable for Infinity Ward to release an addition to the series that doesn't take much work to make. It may not seem "just" or "right," but it's smart. These are business executives, and they're all about the dollar, and hey, I'm not complaining too much, the games still amazingly fun. Sure there are still those frustrating moments when nothing is going right, you can't get a kill, and the game lags up on you and you get killed behind the corner, but these little shortcomings are far outweighed by the fantastic structure and addictive gameplay, and now with the addition of the strike packages, everyone can succeed. Support Packages are perfect for beginning players that need a bit of aid in their early efforts at becoming an expert. Assault Packages are the same awesome killstreaks from previous games, with some new editions, like the Assault Drone, Reaper, and Osprey Gunner. And last, my personal favorite, is the Specialist Package, which is for the expert players that can go on long steaks without dying. Getting the All Perks Bonus is one of the best feelings you can get when playing a game, given that you become a near invincible beast until you die. To me, most of the new maps are awesome, being headlined by Dome, Village, and Mission; however, maps like Bakaara, Seatown, and Fallen just strike me as uninspired, boring, and most of all frustrating. Last of all, the guns in the game are pretty great; however, I feel as if they added too many shotguns, where they should have focused a bit more on Submachine Guns, given that most of the maps seem more geared toward them. The PP90M1 and the Type 95 are beastly weapons that I never get tired of using. Unfortunately, sniping from Modern Warfare 3 has stayed with MW2 style rather than the more balanced and difficult Black Ops sniping. I wouldn't be surprised to see more and more people quick-scoping within the next few months. The final big addition to the game is how you can level up weapons. I think this was a marvelous addition to the game, and helped to improve your game with weapon proficiencies. Overall, the proficiencies were a nice addition, but I never found myself straying away from Kick, Range, or Attachments seeing that those were the most useful. Modern Warfare 3 is a great game, and will probably keep me and others playing for many months to come. Sure it's strikingly similar to previous titles, but as the saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Expand

That said, I did think the first modern warfare had an awesome single-player campaign, the second modern warfare's co-op special ops were a ton of fun, and the Black Ops' multiplayer was actually really good. I have to admit also, that the first night i played MW3 I wanted to throw the game into the trash, so I can understand a few of the low reviews. The way the multi-player is set up, it is crazy frustrating for the new player coming in, trying to learn the new maps, and with no good weapons to use yet. This one, more than any of the others, I was crazy frustrated during the first few hours. However, once you learn the levels and open up some weapons, it is fun. And, even more fun so far for me, has been the new two player co-op survival mode. Have been having a blast. I wish it was 4 or 5 player co-op like other horde modes, but playing it with a good friend is fantastic fun. The special ops missions outside of survival mode dont seem as good as MW2, but they are fun. I have spent so much time playing survival so far, that I haven't even started the single player campaign yet, but I've enjoyed the rest of the game enough now to know that it deserves much better than what it is getting here, so I wanted to hurry and get a review up. Based on the fun I've had with survival mode, special ops, and even the regular multiplayer, I definitely don't think this game is a bust. Basically, if you are tired of COD, then there's no reason to buy it. But, if you still enjoy the series, and have a good buddy to play co-op with, I think it is definitely worth getting. Expand

MW3 is similar to MW2 yes. You know why? Because MW2 was rated the best game by the community. If you made the best thing ever invented. And you planned on making something else. You would try to keep the basics that you had from your first invention. Thats what MW3 did. The new point system and weapon rank ups and proficiency add a fresh new experience to what MW2 already had going for it. However this is not a fanboy review so here are some things wrong with MW3. The spawns are way to close, I plan on this being fixed in a few updates or so. Another thing is that one gun in particular (Type 95) that is overpowered. But all of the little problems in this game can be fixed. And there not gamebreaking issues. A new company worked on MW3's multiplayer so it is expected that they make some simple mistakes. But if you liked MW2 and want a fresh new game. Then get MW3. and you Battlefield fans can hate all you want. While your here writing fake reviews. Ill be playing in-game

I did, however, have times both in the campaign as well as the multiplayer that felt a little too familiar to the past entries in the series. But if you enjoyed those games, you'll have a good time with this one.

And people have to stop hating on the franchise so much. Yeah, it's still COD but have you seen any other FPS franchise change up it's routine in recent memory? Battlefield 3 is great, I know because I also own it, but it's multiplayer feels like a step back in comparison with Bad Company 2 (due to lack of destructibility mostly).

Stop hating on the franchise, and be glad that a game in this industry can become so popular. I'd love to see Bioshock be the game that pushes game sales and gets on every news station, but you should blame the people who never give these types of games a chance, not the games that have achieved such phenomenal success. The point I'm trying to make is that MW3 is actually a quality game with a smooth frame-rate, competent campaign, and a multiplayer/co-op mode that gives the game a sense of longevity. That's why I'm giving it a 9, the score I think the game deserves and hope that you kids hating on the franchise will grow up and at the very least give out some real criticisms next time.

Also getting shot behind walls is pretty popular. This "feature" also enables bad things like lag switches promoting cheating to a whole new level. Just google it. This really sucks big time. No other COD had this big a problem with lag compensation. Good features introduced by Treyarch were simply undone: like flagpoints getting transparent when you aim behind it. Where are the contracts? Bad matchmaking. One who starts at level 1 directly plays against prestige level 4-5. Great fun. Also all explosives were reduced so drastically that grenades become more of joke. It lands directly besides your enemy but doesn't kill him. How realistic is that?

The map design has already been explained by others. I will simply say that they really doesn't weight up against the Black Ops maps. The other stuff really looks like mw2: No big improvement here. The SP had more wow moments in MW2. Quickly played and quickly finished. No innovation here.

The same engine as four years ago, the same formulaic OTT campaign and the same twitch shooting that rewards caffeine fueled twelve year olds and punishes anyone trying to play as a team.

Spend your money on something else.

A step backward in the series honestly. MW2 was better. Co-Op was a nice attempt, but just not enough substance to make it worth while. Multiplayer is also a negative. The new game modes are lame and they took out many of the new ones that made Black Ops at least tolerable. If you want to play a re-hash of MW2 with out any good maps then go ahead.

Before I'm called a "TROLL" I would like to say I have owned every CoD from #1 on PS2 and liked all of em. I got Battlefield 3 at the Midnight Release played and loved the new engine, got MW3 release day and loved the gameplay when i got used to it, different from Black Ops. I grew up on great tactical shooters like Rainbow Six, Counter Strike, and Operation Flashpoint and Call of Duty does not have that feel at all, choke points are easy as hell to control and the maps are super linear. The added verticality of the maps, do not change the style of gameplay from other cods. Campaign is meant to blow you away with its over the top Michael Bay action, but in the end the infinite spawning, been there done that story, and anti-climatic ending bring it down. The multiplayer is weak, yet fun and very enjoyable, but guns like the type 95, Scar-L, and ACR added with profiencies, become overpowered and completely unbalanced. The new Killstreaks are a plus, but IMO the maps Downturn, Village, and Arkaden have too much going on with debris to try and force an illusion on having them be non linear. Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer completely screwed over the free range of motion that your used too in MW1+2 and Black Ops, ur constantly getting stuck on Barrels pipes and pillars that stick out from the walls and ground, ending up in death. Graphics and sound are subpar that they cant even be explained and the 60 fps compared to bf3 30 fps doesnt make a difference idk why IW likes to brag about 60fps.

Gameplay-4- Spec Ops shoould be 4 players, story isnt that much better than BF3, and Mp is always CoD forte.

Graphics-0- Game looks just like MW2(2007), Crysis 1+2, BF Bad Company 1+2, BF3, all blow this engine out of the water. Physics are terrible, I would atleast expect Grenades to crack plywood in half.

Sound-1- voice acting is ok, but the MP communication is terrible best to stay in Party Chat, and the gun sounds are terrible just copy and paste or Foley once again BF3 blows it out of the water.

Lasting appeal-6- the prestiges and Spec Ops are going to keep you well going lol for a while

Conclusion- Imo as Battlefield is the better game, Call of Duty is just as fun, but the lack of innovation and upgrades are bringing it down, and if Infinity Ward doesn't get rid of the Quake Engine and make a new one then this may be the final CoD worth mentioning, and Activision needs to stop with the yearly releases, or else people are going to get sick and tired. If not then Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Rainbow Six: Patriots, Halo 4, and Homefront 2 (now made by Crytek) are going to be chipping away at their Profits and along with Battlefield right in the Rear view it does not look good.

Bad deja vu, a train wreck, and an embarrassing online service that feels stale. The single player campaign is the first in the Modern Warfare series that I didn't find interesting, not even in the slightest. The sound effects of the guns are too similar to each other and it feels as if the guns you shoot have no power to them whatsoever. The explosions are either over-the-top, or small and insignificant to the point that it looks and feels cheap. The A.I. is also terrible with either super-human killers or enemies that walk towards you, waiting for you to mow them down. The online service, what COD is known for, is not done well at all this time around. There is no advantage for doing well, the game doesn't reward you accordingly, and the entire community wants to cheat instead of play the game fair. The Spec Ops missions aren't as fun this time around, and they feel rushed. The graphics are touted as better, but this is not the case. The graphics seem to have a grainy filter over them, to give the effect of a "war-hardened" game. This game was rushed, and it shows. With the first two installations of the MW series warranting a 10 and 8 from me, respectively; this game falls very short of that. No longer fun, not creative, and not balanced; Modern Warfare 3 is one of the worst games I have played in a long time. Don't waste your time, money, or life on this game. Not worth the $60 price tag, and I wouldn't pay $20 for it. Terrible, terrible game. Expand

A subscription plan? That's not really new, battlelog offers the same features for free, and this is nothing but a cash grab aimed at zealous CoD fans who are unable to see anything else but this pathetic excuse of game, and Activision knows they can do this to fund their product that is in decline, as it's possible the last resort for it to stay alive.

The production values of this title are an aberration for what video games truly stand for - an Art form. Call of duty is no longer an art, it's merely a shovelware, or something more reminiscent of an yearly sports game; rehashed content, with little or no values or effort put into it. A quick cash grab.

The majority of it's fanbase put the community of gamers to shame; they are mostly close-minded and patriotic - Zealous should i say, about the game. There isn't really anything special about it and they can't see beyond that.

Oh and let's not forget the actions from activion, when they screwed over the people who create this franchise.

If Activision and other companies would stop releasing the same thing every year and come up with new stuff gaming would be so much more exciting.

I am a massive modern warfare fan and have been looking forward to MW3 since black ops first arrived, however, I am sorely disappointed to say the least, MW3 avatar is slow, and game play seems to be even slower than MW2, I dont believe this is a worth while release and am taking this straight back to gamestation, not only this but I played for 2 hours under double XP reaching level 26 when I logged back on later I was for some unknown reason level 8 ?? I dont think any of the 16 maps are particularly big infinity ward have managed to make them all feel like you are playing a map consistently the size of nuke town (just for reference) I will not be giving this another try, however, I will try the new treyarch title in November next year which I believe is going to be a black ops sequel. Once again I cannot stress how diappointing MW3 is and honestly believe it should be taken off the shelves and given some serious work as MW3 feels like a step backwards towards MW2 rather than a better experience than black ops. One the other hand I have never been a fan of battlefield either but I think there is going to be a big shift in sales towards the Modern warfare rivals come the next installment. I would say well done to infinity ward but you are leaving everyone I know devastated after waiting for so long. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is an actual review of the game. So far I've put about 12 hours into the game, and I will say I'm fairly happy with what I've experienced. I'm going to break down the game in 2 categories and rate each one: campaign and multiplayer.

    Campaign:
MW3 takes place right where MW2 left off, Soap is "dying" on the ground and Price is frantically trying to get help. With the help of Nikolai you escape capture and save Soap's life. The campaign then is splits between different perspectives around the globe as "WW3" is happening. Without spoiling the story, I'll just say the game is action packed and very satisfying. However, certain elements hurt the game including unlimited respawning enemies and the game playing itself through some of the more chaotic moments. Its a Call of Duty campaign, and is very enjoyable. I give the campaign an 8/10
+ Action that keeps you on the edge of your seat
    + Sounds
    - Unlimited spawning enemies

    Multiplayer:
Its no mistake, Modern Warfare 3 is dominated by its multiplayer. Many guns return from previous titles along with a few new ones. This time around there is no more "kill streaks." Instead, Infinity Ward has added "point streaks" to reward players of all play styles. The Assault package kill streak functions as the old kill streaks in previous games (when you die, your kill streak is reset to 0). These kill streaks are primary designed to help the player gather kills. The Support package kill streak does not reset upon death. Kills, capturing objectives, and destroying objects all go towards these kill streaks. These kill streak rewards are designed to help the players team. Finally there is the Specialist Kill Streak which rewards players additional perks after so many kills. Like the Assault package, these perks reset when you die. The core Call of Duty experience remains with a fast paced arena shooter. There are more customization options for each gun then ever before, and they come in the form of "weapon proficiencies." Basically, every gun is now assigned a level. Once you level it up more attachments, camo, and red dot markers can be added. This works great as players are rewarded for using a certain more often. New game modes include Kill Confirmed, which is basically collect the dog tags your enemies drop or recover your allies dog tags before the enemy gets them. In all the multiplayer is top notch and very enjoyable. Lastly, players can join up together for 2 player Survival mode. This mode functions similar to zombies, but this time your facing off against another army. Players work together and earn cash which can be spent on guns, kill streak support, and other options. All the 16 multiplayer maps can be used in Survival mode. In all MW3 is by far one of the best multiplayers available, and I give it a 10/10.
    + Balanced game play
+ Weapon Proficiencies + Point Streaks
    + Survival Mode
    + 16 maps on disc

    Overall I give MW3 a 9/10.

This game is great. Honestly, every part of it is brilliant.

Let's start with the single player. It's short, yeah. Everyone has come to expect that from the Call of Duty franchise. The campaign is filled with Michael Bay style set pieces, and cinematic moments that will be stuck in your mind for years to come - much like previous moments in Call of Duty 4, and Modern Warfare 2. The campaign delivers a sweet ending to the Modern Warfare trilogy, complete with epic moments, and emotional moments. The game really leaves me wondering, though - What is next for Infinity Ward?

Once you've completed the campaign, you've got Spec Ops to look forward to. One mode is similar to its MW2 predecessor - going through moments from the campaign with different objectives, completing them by yourself or with a friend, either on Xbox Live or in split screen. And now, you can even search for people to join you if you're lacking in the friends department. However, Spec Ops is more than this now. There's the newly introduced Spec Ops Survival mode, that puts you and a partner against waves and waves of enemies, ranging from your run of the mill soldier, to dogs with C4 strapped to them. This mode also comes with the ability to rank up, unlock new weapons and killstreaks, such as calling in a Delta squad to assist you in taking out Juggernauts. Overall, this mode is a masterpiece from Infinity Ward.

Multiplayer, the piece of the game that the majority of players only care about. The internet has been littered with haters screaming, "It's the same game!" Well let me tell you something - It's not. This game plays very differently to MW2. Sure, it's the same style as all of the previous Call of Duty's, but that's because it's a sequel. Infinity Ward would be stupid to go out and completely redesign Call of Duty, when they've got a formula that is almost perfect, and the game increases in sales every year. Packed with new features, weapons, equipment, and maps, this game is definitely huge.

Modern Warfare 3 is definitely the most balanced Call of Duty to date. As well as that, it is also the most fun, the most action packed, and brings the most content to the table.

In conclusion, this game is so packed with content that it will take a long time until it's forgotten about. Is it revolutionary? No. Does it need to be? No. The Call of Duty series shows no signs of dying, and you're in denial if you think it is.

As for MW3, I love the game. I only started playing CoD properly this year (I've played 4 and WaW before), the first one being Black Ops, which I still love playing even now, then I worked my way back and then purchased MW2, which for the first few weeks, I found incredibly difficult to play, mainly because of the game engine being so different to Black Ops.

Then I bought MW3 at the midnight launch after waiting for 3 hours and I can honestly tell you, that I haven't felt cheated with my purchase....not one bit, even up till now. The game feels a lot like MW2, but unlike most of the morons on Metacritic complaining about how it's not "ground breaking" or anything, what WERE YOU EXPECTING?! You know what I was expecting? Some shooter-tastic fun, and that's exactly what MW3 has given me. How can so many of you guys sit there and say "it's an expansion pack" or "It feels too similar to MW2" when it's obviously quite different from its predecessor. Sure you still Aim down your Sight, and sprint and jump, but why fix what isn't broken? I don't see complaints like this every time a new Pokémon game is released, and that's been sticking to it's samey gameplay for 15 years!

10 for graphics, they're obviously enhanced over MW2. 10 for sound design, It's done well considering it doesn't have to be put on 2 disks like BF3 had to be (yes, I'm not a PC gamer, so I get pretty much everything for my Xbox...and what?!) it's held up really well. 10 for overall Gameplay because MW3's campaign kept me hooked and entertained me throughout the whole thing, and loved pretty much every bit and I wanted to see how it all concluded. Now BF3...I'm still playing through it and I'm just going "Meh, back to MW3" I also feel like I'm playing the Black Ops campaign again. As for Multiplayer, MW3 is clearly more chaotic, with all the Killstreaks and all the variety of gameplay modes. Also, BF3 essentially only has 3 game modes! TDM, Rush and Conquest, and a lot of you trolls are complaining about things not being mixed up enough in MW3? MW3 10/10, trolls stop hating and go back to your cave, the game is absolutely worth buying.

Now Modern Warfare 3 to me just seems incomplete. The story is shorter, and much of the same, run here, shoot that, blow this up, get in this vehicle, rinse and repeat, which im fine with, dont get me wrong its mindless fun, no need to think just shoot. But i just cant get into Modern Warfare 3. The multiplayer is stale, it doesn't improve anything, or fix and issues that where big issues through out the series. It feels as if they have taken a step backwards. I understand if your good at something, really good at something, you keep it going but after a certain point what your good at becomes subpar and you weaknesses are exposed, and that weakness is change. In a marked flooded with similar FPS experiences you would think to break the mold, switch it up, change how we play and FPS. Modern Warfare 3 plays it safe and gives you a reboot of what was successful in Modern Warfare 2. Which to me is a shame because there is so much potential in this series and it is sad that a group as talented as Infinity Ward can only give you what they have already given you years ago. People are going to buy this game because it has Call of Duty written on it, critics are going to review this game with high remarks because it has Call of Duty written on it. Take away the call of duty label and what do you have? a sub par shooter that fails to give you anything more then what is predecessors gave you, a story that leaves a bad taste in your mouth, a spec ops mode that was thrown together on a whim, and a multiplayer that is too scared to try something new and get old very fast, faster then any mutliplayer before it. Finally, in the huge debate between Battlefield, and Cod. Each game does what they do best, cod is frantic gunplay in close quarters that forces you to stay on you toes, Battlefield is a large play area that focuses more on staying alive and strategy and vehicle play. Each game draws a different crowd. But dont rate Modern Warfare 3 because its not battlefield or its not as good, its not ment to be battlefield, its not ment to play like battlefield, its ment to be an FPS that is unique and delivers a large amount of action, but falls short of that goal by giving you the same shooter, the same story and the same everything. its not worth a 10 and its certainly not worth a 1. its a 7 at best. Unlike most others I feel this game can only be fairly reviewed when you consider a couple facts. First the COD franchise comes out with a game every year and because of that you can't expect the same results as the Battlefield franchise which has been working on the same game for years now.

    Singleplayer:

If your like me and play through the single player probably a few times while owning it then the cinematic experience is very enjoyable as it is like playing through an interactive movie. Not only is is entertaining but MW3 does things in their singleplayer not done in any previous COD game or other shooter that I have played before (fight in dust storm, a few zero g moments in airplane). Multiplayer:

I haven't played the multiplayer a ton yet but from everything I'm seeing it seems to be MW2 with different maps slightly different perks and some other modifications. Simply if you enjoy the COD multiplayer style (fast paced, smaller maps), then you'll love it.

    MW3 vs. Battlefield:

I completely disagree with reviewers that say straight up whether or not MW3 is better or worse than Battlefield. In my opinion, it depends what kind of shooter you prefer. First, do you prefer the realism factor? if so add a point for Battlefield. Next, if you enjoy using vehicles, large maps, and huge teams then add a point for battlefield. However, if you enjoy fast paced shooting where you don't have to crawl around and camp for large portions of the session then MW3 is your game.

    Bottom Line:

But overall there wasn't a ton of new things, but to me that is expected since like I said earlier they release a game every year. What does piss me off is all of the obvious Battlefield fanboys that jump all over MW3 without realizing that there was no way in hell that they were ever going to like a fast paced shooter with smaller maps and small teams to begin with. Obviously.

The COD 4 :MW is on of the best games that I have ever played, and if MW3 still plays like it but with new maps and new weapons with a re-vamped kill streak system then so what? Doesn't mean that it is not fun to play. My only grip about this game so far is the length of the campaign. I beat it in 5 hours, which is short and a little disappointing, but the actions sequences that happen in the game will keep me coming back. I respect the developers for not adding fluff to the story just so I can play for an extra 20 minutes. Besides, if you are only getting this game for the story, you are missing out on some great co-op and multi-player gaming. Sure people are going to hate this game because it is a big name game, but that doesn't mean that is a bad game. Activision and their yearly release of COD game is getting annoying though. They are going to destroy a great series, which is a shame. I will only by the games developed by IW to support them since they are one of the best developers out there at the moment. I would also like to show some love for SeldgeHammer games with their amazing contribution to this series. I hope that they will stay the path with IW to make great games. Not that I want to bash Tryarch, but I am just not a fan of their games. (Except the expansion packs for the original Call of Duty) Expand

I will admit I havent played the campaign but we all know you dont buy this game for the campaign. I will get to it at some point. The multiplayer is still SO fun. The first night I sucked and wanted to jam the disc down my garbage disposal. However the second night everything started clicking and I started learning the maps and boom back to normal having fun and actually playiang with some strategy. It may not be real war and there are still campers but its addictive and full of action! The new Kill Confirmed gameplay is awesome for people like me (and most of us) who love to Run n Gun and get in good gun battles rather than sneaking around hoping someone in a 3 story window is going to snipe me with a crosshair not even close to my body (that really pisses me off BTW). Overall this game on its own is a 10, you cant judge a game off of the past games. MW3 will go down as one of the best COD games of all time. I guess what you can say is that there arent a lot of new additions, however the small additions that were made make this game so much better than the previous versions. Expand

I can't give mw3 a 10 after playing black ops and bf3. Not because they are better, but they can show infinity ward a thing or 2. Lets start right off the bat with the fact that war isn't fought only on the ground, you have to expand in all directions, bf proved it. You can't forget that current gen consoles are 4 player ready systems, b.ops training allowed this as an illusion but it was there. I know it has spec ops missions and survival but think about the family guy who can't play unless all the family participates. I have to say that i was skeptical after playing b.ops that this would suck just as bad but i was surprised. This is where gamers and haters go they're separate ways. The graphics and sound just blew me away, i almost fell back in disbelief that it was mw3. Yes i have played bf and all previous cod, like i said gamers/haters. The story has me hooked, up until the mrs. asks if she can join, then it's back to spec op. Which brings me to another point, the mission are both fun and challenging if you're looking for the 3star glory, even after they have been obtained, but the survival mode is ADDICTIVE. All it's lacking is 4 player capability. On line a shooter is a shooter, but as i said before, wars aren't just fought by ground troops, and you should be able to hide in the bushes not just beside them. This is just a sum of what i feel, but remember a game is the result of tons of hours and frustration that culminate in a work of art that should be admired as such. Don't be a hater if you truly are a gamer, nobody put a gun to your head and said play or die. Respect the industry and don't betray the people who put heart and soul into our entertainment. Expand

I have no clue why people are giving this game anything below an 8. I get it, people are very loyal to the battlefield franchise. No reason to bomb another game's ratings though. Nothing new to this game. I feel like each map has something in common with maps i have played before. It feels like modern warfare was put in a blender and this is what was served.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
