I have played and beaten the campaign and been playing the multiplayer and am up to about level 26. What I am sad to report is that all this game is another call of duty. The adding of recoil hasn't changed the overall reaction when you get shot. All the game is whoever shoots first will win the fight 99% of the time. I will admit I love Battlefield 3 and have arguments with a friend between both games, so I'm sure this game play appeals to someone, but that someone is not me. When I initially started the multiplayer, I chose a M4 and I was being killed, spawn killed, and out shot left and right. My friend reminded me to play "call of duty style" which is sub machine gun and run around. Sadly, I turned my brain off to play this game. This game needs work, but I don't know what all they can do to make it better. Expand

This is Modern Warfare 1.6 (MW 2 was 1.5). Seriously this is just another expansion/map pack, with no real new content. I don't see how anyone could justify paying full retail price for this. Single player is the same ridiculous Michael Bay story that doesn't make sense and takes 6 hours to beat, and multi player is the same camping fest. Same old graphics engine, more There is nothing new in this game that is worth paying for. The Treyarch Call of Duty titles at least had Zombie mode to make up for the lack of worthwhile content. The same cannot be said of Infinity Ward, as they push out the same game year after year.

If you actually liked MW2, there probably isn't anything you will dislike about this game. But at least acknowledge that you are getting ripped off. This is the same thing Madden does: update the roster, tweak a few modes, and call it a sequel. The same thing Guitar Hero did: add some new songs and call it a sequel. Here's a newsflash: adding a few maps and weapons does not warrant a full priced sequel, especially when you release a new one every single year. The executives only let the quality of these games sink so low because they know people are going to buy it anyway. And so far, they've been right.

I suspect at this point you might be tired of modern first person shooters. If you aren't, check out Battlefield 3. It isn't a perfect game by any means, but it at least is a step in the right direction for games. DICE chose to support their older games with DLC, prolonging their life, and took the time to develop an innovative and polished sequel, instead of rushing it out last year. If another modern FPS isn't what you are looking for, plenty of other games this holiday season deserve your money much more than MW3.

As expected this is just a copy from the last game with no real improvements to the Multiplayer. Singleplayer has some new stuff but if that were the game alone no one would buy it anyway. Seriously, let's get behind the FPS craze please.

Ignore the trolls giving this game negative reviews.

Battlefield 3 sucks, and it's sad that the fans have to stoop so low just so they can feel better about their game. They see that actual reviewers are giving this game better scores, and they just have to come in and pollute it with their scores.

Don't listen to these sad people. This game is good.

I don't understand the negative, except due to the BF3 competition. MW3 is a fantastic game. The new games modes provide a little something for everyone and offer a wide variety of choices to takedown the enemy team. Not to mention the new survival mode offers a fresh take on the ever popular "horde mode" giving players hundreds of hours of playtime which never goes stale. With Battlefield 3, Dice was more focused on the competition as opposed to making an actually solid game that met its enormous expectations. Its like comparing apples to oranges as both games are entirely different. However, I found MW3 to be a massive improvement over MW2 and years ahead of Battlefield 3. Its a solid game with multiple strong. points Expand

What's changed this time? Not much. You've got a few new modes to multiplayer and a change in presentation. That's just about it. The singleplayer continues from the embarassing plot line from MW 2 and continues to prove that gaming devs can be some of the worst story-tellers of all time. The game runs under the same engine as every previous game, dating back to Call of Duty 2 from 2005. If you do a side-by-side comparison of Call of Duty 2 and MW 3, you will see how little progress has been made graphically 6 years later. Since the engine is still the same, the physics, AI, and everything else that goes into gameplay is still the same. This is clear laziness on the developers' parts and shows that this franchise is going nowhere fast. I own every Call of Duty except for Big Red One and MW3, and for good reason. This review contains to silly bias, as I've been a fan of the series much longer than 99% of its fans even knew the series existed, let alone played one of its installments. Take it from me, this series is dead and if you're a gamer with accelerating preferences, this is not the game for you. If you're wondering whether to purchase MW 3 or Battlefield 3, buy neither. Unless you have a high-end PC, Battlefield isn't the game for you either, as its console versions are a poor representation of the series. Unfortunately, the biggest concern with MW 3 is how it will impact the rest of the industry. Perhaps more shooters will adopt the Call of Duty model of shooters, and anyone with preferences like mine will give up on the genre all together. Expand

I have played about 1h of multiplayer and I am totally sick of it! More campers than ever with a lot of 12 year old kids, way too easy to spawn kill, overpowered weapons etc. I could go on for a whole essay if I would have the energy to. If you're comparing it to the other Modern Warfare titles, it sucks. The graphics have somehow gotten WORSE since Modern Warfare 2. They made the maps bigger...which is a fail because Call of Duty is all about fast paced action, and there's nothing fast pace about trying to find enemies. None of the maps even seem well thought out...most of them are random buildings, cars and pipes randomly thrown all over the place. The game is just a mess. This is my last Call of Duty game and I'm strongly considering selling this game. I thought Black Ops sucked, but honestly, it was better than this game.

Yes, it's easy to say it's more of the same - on the surface it is, it looks and feels comfortable just like the innovations in FIFA 12 or Forza 4 but look below the surface and you realise this is a game with depth. Firstly the single player campaign is a cinematic roller coaster ride. The story is worthy of a good action thriller and the action draws you in. If you are a fan of the series I'm sure you will enjoy how the game ties up all the loose ends, as always there is clever use of flashbacks to add story detail. The campaign is one of the few I will replay, it really is that good. Spec Ops adds another dimension, survival mode is frantic and the challenges are well executed. Solo play means you can get to enjoy this mode even if your friends happen to be busy and you don't like the idea of teaming up with the randoms on xbox live. The use of the XP / levelling up system works again well here. Again similar to before but just that little bit better.

Multiplayer is of course where this game really excels. The real innovation here is what I call for the rest of us. If like me you don't dominate the leader boards and are often middle to low on each round scoreboard previous versions of MW could be frustrating. As a result of the previous MW series bias toward only the best player I was always more of a Battlefield fan as there were simply more ways to gain experience than having to be a deadeye marksman. Now with the support packages and kill streaks that carry through deaths there is a chance to level the score. There is also a much greater sense of progression - probably because the playing field has been levelled slightly by the support packages - both in rank terms but also with each weapon and various attachments. If you were one of those who just liked to dominate everyone else in the game you probably don't like it - for the rest of us it's a big improvement.

By sticking to the same success formula with a rip roaring single player story and by levelling the playing field slightly in online MW3 is the best of the series.

Great game! If you don´t like it, go cry and play this crap called Battlefield 3! (: The singeplayer is short, but way more intense then Battlefield 3. The multiplayer isn't just an 'add-on' like a lot of battlefield fanboys say.. There are so much new things: New weapons (a lot!) , new locations & a lot of new killstreaks. And even a new multiplayer mode! So hell yeah, a 10!

Genuinely one of the most polished and rounded shooters made. This iteration really is one of the most balanced multiplayer experiences you will find. It feels alot like counterstrike in many ways and I think the community will still regularly play this title long after the next in the series is released.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OK, so I have played quite a bit of this game so far and I will admit that it is more of the same, but to the point where you don't really care anymore. The new improvements are really good (Call of Duty Elite is great) and the new "Pointstreaks" give everyone a chance and they are all really well balanced. The campaign side was pretty bland, kind of like Battlefield 3 but we all know that multiplayer is where it's at for these games, and MW3 won't disappoint. If you were never really a Call of Duty fan, this game won't change your mind. If you love Call of Duty, then you will love this game. To be honest, I am quite shocked the user score for this game is so low, but I can't judge how people feel about a game. This game is worth the money. I know there is a battle between MW3 and Battlefield 3 and being a fan of both games, I would have to choose Battlefield 3 over MW3 by a slim margin because Battlefield 3 feels like it's a complete and total overhaul that is crafted very nicely. MW3 gets an 8/10, Battlefield 3 gets a 9/10. They are both amazing games. Period. Expand

I was looking for everything I liked about MW2 but with more content - which I think was aptly delivered. The perks are well balanced, a solid selection of weapons, corrected weapon ranges (no more Uzi kills from across the map), much improved killstreak system, addition of weapon proficiencies, and better selection of equipment. The only negatives I have found are that since 3 of the assault rifles are built off the same platform, many of the weapons look the same (though they perform much differently). Also compared to MW2 many of the maps of MW3 are very cluttered which isn't necessarily a bad thing but will effect your overall style of play. Bottom line: If you like MW2, you will like this game. Anyone who says differently is selling something. Expand

This means we - the fans - get regurgitated content year after year, and I quite frankly am not interested in that.

What I AM interested in is a new call of duty game engine, a true cover system, and gameplay mechanics that will give me pause and think "wow, that was cool." The only reason why I bought this was for the multiplayer, to be honest, but I think I am going to hold off on buying any more Call of Duty games until they show me they can bring something different to the table. Scrap the old game engine. It has had its day, but its day is done. Put a new game engine in, and push yourself to innovate a tired genre. The folks over there at DICE are on the right track, I think.

I absolutely adore the CoD series, and more specifically the MW trilogy, and was happy to see another game in the series. I've enjoyed playing MW3 as much as I had the other two, and although there are more returning aspects to the game than new it might seem, I'm beyond happy with it, and very surprised to see so many negative comments. I guess people just don't understand what they were getting themselves into. It's fun and addicting as it's always been, and has a lot of new things to bring and make it stand out on its own.

I just played the 1st mission of the single player, but I can tell you I had fun as hell fighting through the streets of new york and the stock market. I don't care if it's short (from what I've heard), but the campaign is a blast.

Bashing a game for its graphics its like bashing a porn movie for its story. Seriously guys, the graphic improvement is NOT obvious, but it's there. You will realize when you play the campaign. In the multiplayer I haven't looked in detail, but it's the same engine so obviously the improvement is also there. Do yourselves and us a favor kids and stop being so retarded, go play Pong on atari or something.

Not to mention spec ops. I haven't tried it out yet, but it sure sounds like challenging and hella fun.

Long story short, it might not be a spectacular masterpiece, but it's worth your money if you've always liked COD of if you have the slightest interest in FPSs. Do anything but listen what this hater kids say, most likely they didn't even buy the game to begin with.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
