Although there's nothing "groundbreaking" about the multiplayer, it stays true to what makes Call of Duty great. Hundreds of unlocks, weapon personalization, and customizing your soldier's load outs to fit your play style, thus integrating different people into the series, with a greater chance of success. The campaign was (as usual) action-packed, and enjoyable (albeit short).

I love the new kill streaks and death streaks, the campaign looks great, but is very much like mw2. How ever its still very fun and playable and the graphics are top notch. Alright guys listen up. This game is not so bad but it does have its flaws. The campaign is alright but what it does right is keep you wanting and waiting to see what big set piece is around the corner. The campaign is alright but what it does right is keep you wanting and waiting to see what big set piece is around the corner. Huge set pieces is what the campaign was made for and it does one hell of a job at it. Spec ops is a blast as usual and is great for partnering up with a buddy and the missions are varied and engaging. But we all know that the multiplayer is what we all bought MW3 for. Yes they re skinned MW and made it their own but the gunplay is not as "tight" as other Call of Duty games. With bullets not registering and assault rifles cant even touch a enemy at far range this game became a mundane shooter. Lag issues and lackluster map design bogs this game's greatness. This can be fixed however with map packs and title updates. But what really drags it down is the maps. These maps are forgettable at best. At least in the other Call of Duty games you remember the maps. Highrise, Vacant, Crash, Overgrown and many other shined in the past titles. Instead we get these cramped, claustrophobic maps that really don't lend to how the games should flow. Now all people do is run which is not a bad tactic but most combat involves running at each other head on till someone gets the lucky bullet. The maps are so lackluster and cramped that I feel like Im a mouse trapped in a maze designed by a 5 year old with the cheese at the end being 10th prestige which doesn't seem to be the best reward in this "maze".
In closing Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward I applaud you for rising from the ashes of what happened at Infinity Ward. But a little more polish and this game would be great. But its not too late, you have time to fix this via DLC and title updates. This games fate is uncertain but you guys can fix it if you choose. Its a great game you just have to scrape some of the dirt off. This is DTA_CoolishHero signing out. My first game review hope you guys like it.

It seems that quite a few people are spamming the score with bad reviews. I think it is a great game. The sound is pretty amazing, slightly repetitive, but amazing nonetheless. Gameplay handles smoothly, and another great campaign are just some of the things that make is an interesting game to play.

Fantastic game. At first I was a bit overwhelmed with the new maps and what not and thought that MW3 didn't live up to my expectations, but after playing for a bit and learning to navigate my way efficiently through the game I can say that I am thoroughly enjoying it. Real shame on the low rating, I truly can't under-stand why. Compared to black ops, this game is absolute gold.

"I created a metacritic account just to review this terrible game. The more I play it the more I hate it. I am a long time COD player, played MW, MW2, and black ops all to prestige. The maps and spawning system are terrible in this one though. The maps are all dozens of narrow passages crisscrossing each other so you are constantly getting shot in the side and back, add to that the new spawning system and it is impossible to play this game with any sort of tactics. You cant clear an area and then feel confident the enemies will be ahead of you they will just spawn behind you and come at you from one of 6 different angles. Activision shouldn't have been greedy and fired the people that made these games good. I wont be buying another COD game until something drastic changes"

Another year, another Call of Duty. This year brings about Modern Warfare 3 the sequel to 2009's Modern Warfare 2. Overall the game play is very similar to other incarnations of the Call of Duty series. This incarnation comes with the standard tweaks to multiplayer that you would expect. Yes, this is more of the same but it's still a fun experience.

First off it's smooth. Super smooth, a 60 frames per second makes this game look crystal clear. A little sharper graphics, that are tough to spot at first, but once you see the first car explode you will know exactly what I mean. Buildings collapse when you hit them with a missile from the chopper, balconies collapse when you man the mini-gun. The water looks real, trees and grass blow as a storm approaches, and I actually stopped more than once to look around at the sky and the sunset. It was that beautiful. Bigger scale. MW was about a few guys in Russia, MW2 was about defending the eastern states in the U.S. MW3 is about the entire world under attack. And you feel it. Cool set pieces for firefights that are multi-level transitional. Not just where you've got guys on the second story (and stay there) and guys down low (and stay there) you've got people running up and down stairs using the environment. One time i saw an enemy running towards me, and I was thinking "what an idiot this dude's gonna get shot in the face, stupid A.I.," only to see him actually running up to a car, he opens the car door, and hides behind it! I was blown away.
A beef i had with Black Ops was that sometimes it felt like a shooting gallery. You would walk forward it would "trigger" the enemy spawn, they line up in a row, and you kill 'em, and move on. But here i felt like there are people everywhere and all the time! And there's always this rushed feeling of progression, where if you try to camp and kill everybody someone yells, "C'mon we gotta keep moving!" So you didn't feel like you had to kill everyone, but that the mission was more important. A major improvement is the feel and sounds of the guns. They feel great, and I can't tell if it's extra vibration in the controller or what, but it's different. It's crisp. I love breach scenes. i swear I'd buy a game where all you do it breach every room.
Now before you declare me a CoD fanboy, remember, this is all just the campaign I've been talking about! I haven't even touched the multiplayer or the special ops missions/survival. Those are what will ensure that you will never need to ditch the game just because the campaign is over.
This game is loaded and if you can put aside the "it's cool to hate on modern warfare" fad that seems to be all the rage, you'll be blown away at this masterpiece. I love Modern Warfare 3 and I don't care who knows it.
    P.S. Airplane level FTW!

I give this game at least an 8- why? Because I like it- what it does, how it does it and how it looks doing it. MW3 may have a medium-short length campaign, but it works! The story gets told (and unlike most it seems, I followed it) and unlike the cliche riddled, CoD ripoff of a campaign in BF3 (get real BF fans, something bad happens before the game, you get interrogated/forced to explain it, and just before the end you get out of the interrogation and help 'save the world'? Black Ops people, did that already. And what the hell is with all the 'I'm on a machine gun! OH NO A ROCKET CRAP I BLEW UP AND NOW I'M DAZED ON THE GROUND!" moments? How many times did that happen? And those stupid quicktime events that appear no where else in the game? At least CoD's consistent between single and multiplayer) and told well. Now, having not played the BF3 mutliplayer (and considering this crowd spamming low scored for competing games, I probably won't) I can't speak out against it, but from what I have heard the multiplayer is the only thing BF3 does right. So, kudos there. MW3? That multiplayer is still fastpaced and hectic. Which game would I buy and play? MW3, handsdown. Which game would I play? Both. Unlike the morons spamming 0 scores for games they're too immature to understand have a right to exist, I won't write-off a game just because it's competition to a game I like. Then again, considering how many problems BF3 had when it launched... I think I'll stick with the people who know what they're doing. Expand

MW3 is what I expected to be playing and I'm enjoying quite nicely. So thank you to Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer for your work. Now, can you please get Elite up and running correctly!? First thing I did was complete the campaign. I think I liked this third installment actually better than the first two, it seemed to make the most sense and seemed the most reasonable out of each part of the trilogy. After that I moved on to multiplayer, where most of my disappointments where found. Graphically it's almost identical to MW2. Sure there's been some improvements, but there's nothing to write home about. Very disappointed that they couldn't upgrade the graphics engine more. Game play mechanics also feel very much the same as MW2, and while the saying "don't fix it if it ain't broke" may very well apply here, I don't think any game studio striving to have the best title in it's genre should not strive to keep pushing the envelope and continue to experiment with out-of-the-box ideas. There where only a couple new additions to the multiplayer experience that I liked, which include the new killstreak 'modes' (personally love setting it as Support). Survival mode is also a nice touch, but since just about every FPS has it nowadays it isn't that surprising.

Overall, I don't feel like Modern Warfare 3 is a new game, just something recycled and slapped with a shiny new title. Sure, I'll play it every once in a while, but it's not a game that I'm going to be trying to rush home to play every day. It's a shame to see Infinity Ward let themselves release this game, I know they can do better.

This game, as many have stated, does not have the same graphics as Modern Warfare 1. Nor does this game have a predictable storyline. What this game has is a refreshing recovery from Black Ops, which was, to a much lesser extent, very much so ridiculed. This is exactly what the gaming community needs and has needed since the release of Black Ops. The multiplayer, contrary to the statements of many, has completely changed its angles on multiplayer gaming, where there were faults, successes were there to fill in the cracks. What we had from Modern Warfare 2 is still there, but we got more. And what everyone said, how this game is exactly the same as Modern Warfare 2, that is only true in the very shortest of aspects. The multiplayer, redefined, unparalleled at this stage in the development of gaming, has not stopped improving. The new game modes it has added have only just begun to express the possibilities of the extremely well-formed map workings. In the future, the only thing I could expect more would be a greater amount of game modes. The campaign, although a tad bit too familiar at times presents the great feel that we have come to expect from an Infinity Ward game, with every bit of thrill and intensity that has always been there. And the Special Ops, playing as a single player seems to be a bit too difficult to obtain certain goals, but as a team, how the darn thing was meant to be played, has the greatest sense of accomplishment to it, just as we have come to expect. When you finally kill the final enemy, when you get to the final objective, you get this over-powering sense of gratification that will be openly welcomed by the open-minded. In my honest opinion, the only true flaw with this game is the amount of criticism it doesn't deserve. This game does not deserve the terrible reviews it has been getting. I hope my review helps to balance out the negatives, and motivate others to purchase this great addition to the world of gaming. Thank you. Expand

Haven't gone into spec ops much, but i did a few with my friend last night and my only complain was that most of the first missions (only unlocked the missions through the level 5 ones) had a majority of them with time limits, this angers me because i got 100% of the achievements on mw2 and for the spec ops, the hardest missions to complete on veteran were any of the missions involving juggernauts, followed closely by missions with time limits. Veteran can be made easy if you take it slow, but time limits make it increasingly more difficult

Also, for those complaining innovation, what do you want them to do? Anything that Activision innovates you'll just end up **** about being stupid. We all need to learn to be satisfied with something less than perfect.

The game gets a 7 in my opinion because the campaign is enjoyable. It, in my opinion is the best of the "trilogy". I played through on Hardened and had to play through again on Veteran. It was an awesome, cinematic, action packed campaign. Short, though.

The multiplayer is the same old stuff, though. It really is. People are within their rights to refer to it as MW2.5 when it comes to the multiplayer. It's time to take a leap in some other direction IW/Treyarch!

You'd think with all the money this franchise brings in (9.3 million first day sales) that they could throw a few dedicated servers our way. As long as someone with basic Internet (I'm looking at you DSL for 19.99/mo) can host a match, the obvious issues will never go away.

So that's it from me. The game works, the campaign is well worth the (short) time. The multiplayer might as well be any of the last few Call of Duty games.

Talk about Tony Hawking or Guitar Heroing another series. There is nothing new here that one has not played before in Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops. Sure, you get updated graphics on a tired Modern Warfare engine and a few new doodads. Yet, nothing game breaking or innovative. This series is going the way of Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero. Two great series who were milked dry by annual releases.

The good thing that MW3 has going for it is the large array of maps. There are enough maps that you a person shouldn't get sucked into purchasing DLC over the next 12 months. Now it seems that you can be first to spot your enemy running along, first to aim, first to fire, and the first to die with your opponent getting away without a scratch. It's also even easier now to pin your opponents in their spawn. How random is the spawning when your are already in their sights, spawned around the corner from where you just died, or spawning an enemy directly behind you within 5 seconds of running out of the spawn?

I honestly don't think gamers wanted a lot of change. Which, in a way, is good because this game doesn't deliver in that respect. What a lot of gamers wanted was a game that worked. The series MW series started 4 years ago and seems to be going backwards since.

Activision have given us a lazy collection of maps, designed for the lowest common denominator player. Bitterly disappointing. Better off returning to Battlefield 3, which offers better maps, greater gameplay variety, and is all round a more demanding and enjoyable game. Expand

This game should be sold at half price. For one, the riot shield is still overpowered and noobs use it on every map. Also why is it that when I fire a rocket at a building, the building holds up to said rocket? Rockets are explosive and explosions usually cause structural damage. For a company with the name "Sledgehammer," this game sure does lack a lot of sledgehammers. Modern Wafer 4This game should be sold at half price. Francamente, se repiten. Me parece haber jugado ya a este juego una y otra vez. Si por lo menos el multijugador hubiera evolucionado y traiga novedades frescas e interesantes, pero no es un refrito de todo lo demás con un motor gráfico que envejece. Decepcionado. Ya pueden tomar medidas para el futuro.

Modern Warfare 3 is the best multiplayer king. Hate it or love it, you cant deny that.

The biggest problem with Modern Warfare 3 is that lots of great changes have been made but none of them are apparent to the consumer. All they see is that the graphics are comparable and the game-play is extremely familiar. These are two very true comments and because they are all that is perceived they tend to overshadow the changes that have been made. Single Player: In true "Michael Bay" form, the campaign is a strand of epic set pieces designed to make your eyes and ears say "What the !@#$." This is getting harder to do since we've been exposed to the same style of presentation for at least two Modern Warfare's before this one. What really resonated with me is that this game ties all the events of previous two games into a coherent and surprisingly good story. The flashbacks and explanation of events happening outside of the players awareness in previous titles was awesome and it made me want to play the other two titles again.

Spec Ops: The tried and true co-op formula is exactly the same as it was in Modern Warfare 2 except for one major detail which is the addition of Survival. Survival is just plain awesome. I love that the waves of enemies are infinite. I love that we can level up and use all the things that make traditional multi-player awesome like perks, attachments, kill streaks, etc. Survival is also a useful learning tool for players to get used to weapons and other errata of the game without the pressure of performing well against the online masses where stats are tracked and permanent. These two aspects dictate the entire feel and pace of the multi-player games and it's unfortunate because it renders so much in the game useless. Sniper rifles are really just there for show for instance. Multi-player: It's always hard to judge this segment because frankly it takes a long time to figure out the tools and the maps in order to use them efficiently. However, there's two things that I've notice that in my opinion act as the stem for virtually all the problems in the multi-player. First, the maps are significantly smaller than other iterations in the series. I can't tell you how many times I was surprised at how close Domination flags were to each other or how quickly an enemy was already bearing down on me at the beginning of a round. Secondly, even on the larger maps the amount of collusive objects create short lines of sight and make the maps feel and act small. These factors create maps that are chaotic and relentless. Spawn killing is much easier, tactics are less viable, and a lot of the tools and perks are useless because they can't be reliably used in an environment where your lifespan is mere seconds upon spawning. The good things that have changed are aspects that a lot of players probably won't pick up on. A good example is how corners are handled. Many of the corners aren't flat walls with a definitive edge but rather a stack of objects that create an uneven edge. This means players have to gauge their line of sight based on their height in relation to the object and also where the enemy may be coming from. It gives the person approaching the corner a small field of vision on someone who may be sitting around that corner thus making camping a little bit harder. Some corners are completely see-through like glass windows or brush. These provide a murky field of vision on a corner but still leave you vulnerable to damage. These create great risk vs. reward scenarios that the players have to consider each time they approach a corner and I love them.

Summary: I miss Modern Warfare 1. That's it, what else can I say really? This game is an obvious and predictable evolution of the first Modern Warfare and I feel really underwhelmed playing it. In fact, I must have sat at the menu for 30 minutes wondering why I couldn't convince myself to play multi-player. Instead, I ended up playing Spec Ops all night and I loved it. I guess in contrast to all this I just miss the simplicity and near perfect balance of Modern Warfare 1. Where maps were diverse and sniper rifles were useful. Where gun-play was king and air traffic didn't completely drown out any other sound in the game. And I know this is in high contrast to popular map design but I really miss choke points. Modern Warfare 3 is a great game with liquid smooth game-play and a deep and interesting progression system but in the end, it still isn't enough to make me sell Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

First, the 0-5 star reviews are ludicrous. Actual 0-5 star games don't even last on the shelf. MW3 is easily a 9/10 game; for me it is 10/10. Again, the graphics are wonderful, and set pieces are really majestic; the story is interesting and winding (make sure you pay attention). Finally, unheard of in this class of games, there is another play mode called Spec Ops that included 2 horde-style and mission-style gameplay. These are fun and innovative, and some might enjoy it more than multiplayer. I'm not sure if the BF3 or Halo fanboys are just upset that MW3 is performing so well, or if they are just this immature, but it doesn't make sense that they would waste their time lying on these reviews. This is a great game, and it will last much longer than the ones they are standing behind. Should you be torn between games, MW3 is absolutely the way to go. Expand

A lot of people have thought this is just some piece of crap game that doesn't deserve to looked at bought and should only be made fun of. To those who think this is true you are all wrong. Is this a sequel, yes, but is it a crappy game, no. While people complain about no innovation I'm sure that if there was a big change people would be mad. But let's get down to the real business, is this game even worth $60 and many hours of your time, that's your choice, for now i will tell you mine. This game isn't worth $60, maybe $50, probably $40 but not $60. Even not being worth $60, it is a very well made game with good but short campaign, great co-op missions, the awesome zombies like survival, and the famous (whether it be god or bad) multi-player. In my book there are very few games that offer a truly good overall package, MW3 does this but if your only buying for one mode then save your money and buy an older call of duty that has what you are looking for. I hope this can help somebody who is a long time fan who doesn't want to feel cheated because he spent $60 on a game he already played.

The story is decent and the new survival mode is fun. It is a bit 'more of the same" but they did it well. The story is better than B3's story and at least I can take my party with me into a game and not be thrown into the other team. They did a good job.

To be honest, it doesn't matter how good this game is, it'll sell.

This is because there are certain things this game does very well, the campaign is a giant Michael Bay movie and the multiplayer really is the same thing you've been playing since COD4, but that's really not such a bad thing. There is an entire category of gamers that fall under the twitchy trigger finger shooter

There is an entire category of gamers that fall under the twitchy trigger finger shooter category, you show them a different game and they will want nothing to do with it. COD is all they want, and for this kind of person this game is probably a wise choice.

The campaign is fun, the multiplayer I really have lost intrest in. It seems harsh, but it's true, I poured many hours into COD4s and MW2s mutliplayers, I thought they were both great games. Black Ops got boring too fast, but that's not because it wasn't a good game, it was just the same old stuff. MW3, as a multiplayer game has lost my intrest, to be fair the entire COD franchise as a multiplayer series has lost my intrest since I started playing BC2.

I've not yet brought BF3 so I really can't compare yet, but I would reccomend this game if you are a cod fan. For anyone else, maybe, take your pick.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is exactly what the game advertised itself to be, and therefore my expectations were met! I love the game! I was very disappointed with Battlefield 3 for the xbox 360, as the game looks nothing like what you see in the trailers. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 actually looked better in my opinion, on a console that is.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
