It was nice to see the story completed, but no innovation, I bought a used copy at game stop, and returned it after a few days, the online is SSDD. The community is absurd. While I have Cod: 4 and MW2 on PC, I chose not to buy this for PC due to I couldn't return it and I would be contributing to the sales figures. I always beat the campaigns before I touch multiplayer and this was the first time I've needed to quit the campaign.Typical issues but to the extreme; respawning enemies who always know where you are and only shoot at you, less than useless teammates who lead you to death, and my favorite, the invisible trip wire that only once you walk over do all the enemies pop out. Cool cut scenes and concepts. Poor game play. But I personally buy it for the multiplayer. The campaign likely takes 6 maybe 8 hours if its like the others? Multiplayer is ongoing. The good outweighs the bad.

My friends and I actually got a kick out of it because we felt like we were playing a retro game. What's new? There's a new story line, but that will last a day or two, maybe more if you want all the achievements. Honestly though, I've never bought a CoD game for the story. There's the modified Spec-Ops similar to Horde mode. The multiplayer has some modifications to the Kill Streaks, etc, but the gameplay is been there done that for any long time fan of the series. I love this game because it's entertaining & I don't need a high end pc to enjoy its true potential. No disrespect to battlefield fans but unlike that game, modern warfare 3 has the complete package without having a brand new engine for scale & destructions. This game with a 4 year old engine, still runs silky smooth with 60fps & looks way better than battlefield 3 on consoles. While the new infinity ward & sledgehammer games played it safe by not innovating the series like cod4 did, hopefully the next one will. Keep it up guys! Expand

I presumably scored it so highly out of some form of loyalty to Infinity Ward, trying to help them against some of the seemingly unfair reviews. I'm rather ashamed of having done this, and wanted to put things more on the level.

To take another look at this game, its certainly nothing special. While the Campaign of COD 4 was largely praised for its characters and setting. Its difficult to say the same here, simply playing along with the same recipe that just feels rather dated now, given its lack of change. But multiplayer is the main reason most are brought to Call of Duty, and it at seems a little more balanced in its gunplay following patches, something not shared by its predecessor. However, other issues quickly come to light. Odd choices such as the changes from Killstreaks to score streaks raise a number of issues. One such example is the stealth bomber, which can be earned quiet easily, due to being placed in the "support" section, meaning that the kills to obtain it compile even after death. This makes the bomber appear far to regularly, which is also far too offensive for its support namesake on many of the maps. Which brings me to another huge issue, the maps. Graphically their all rather unimpressive, largely just a series of drab, darkly hued buildings or rubble. Those that aren't marred by this issue instead of horrendous and unmemorable layouts that just don't live up to the experiences had on many of MW2's maps, such as "Afghan." When the maps are as bad as they are, its difficult to praise MW3's multiplayer at all.

Other than these points, the rest is largely standard fair, with a few new options to keep you busy. The cooperative spec ops mode adds a little more longevity with its survival and mission modes, but it feels rather tacked on given that it can only be played with two players, a particularly noticeable omission in the uninspired survival mode.

And that's all there really is to say. Its not particularly superior or inferior to other titles in the series. If you enjoyed them and want more, it'll largely give you what your after, but if you've always disliked the series, this certainly wont change that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you were to judge Modern Warfare 3 on its own merits then it would definitely be a 10 as the game mechanics are still very strong, however considering there have been 4 Call of Duty games since the original Modern Warfare released at a yearly rate the lack of innovation in the series thus far has to be taken into consideration. MW3 doesnt even try to innovate in any area of the game and this is why i have given it a mediocre score. The singleplayer is as bombastic and mental as previous games and is actually my favourite area of the game however it does seem that Sledgehammer games have overused some of the previous devices that made Modern Warefare exciting and at times shocking such as when the character your playing as dies or gets blown up and nearly dies. The multiplayer is one of the weakest in the series yet as it seems most if not all of the 16 maps are designed for very close quarters battles meaning most players just run around with UMP's. I think the Call of Duty brand needs to decide which developer should make the games and just release them every two years but this probably wont happen due to the large ammount of sales and revenue the games continue to rake in at the behest of more innovative game developers. MW3 has lasted a total of 14 hours across single player, spec op, and multiplayer and its boring already.

the singleplayer is decent, but nothing special, thankfully it wraps up the story as opposed to halo which leaves you with a cliff hanger each time

spec op is as expected, fun for a playthrough with a friend, but nothing more

survival mode, the new mode is a blast, but IW/sledgehammer/activision really dropped the ball, its only 2 players! i it was 4 people, it could be the new zombies/horde mode.. but with only one other person its nothing anymore.

multiplayer is the biggest let down, i was hoping for he COD4 glory days of fun and frantic fire fights. instead the hit detection and lag is terrible.
you can get shot one time and die, but on the kill cam your shot 5 times. terrible. also magic bending bullets return, the series signature lag feature.

the killstreaks are back but you can have weaker killstreaks that wont reset on death good for people who don't game and run around like me, they also generally help your team instead your your K/D so i enjoy them
the maps are terrible. these can be the worst maps to be put in a 360 game. they also completely recycle COD4 buildings, which isnt bad but if you do that just remake the amazing cod 4 maps.

all in all, the game is a rent. i picked up battlefield 3 and its loads more fun then Mw3, then skyrim comes out Friday so this will be left in the dust.
if your a huge fan of the story, rent for the single player, it doesnt leave you feeling empty and is worth a playthrough

    not worth a buy

MW3 has a long list of problems, but its worst offense is how rehashed it is. Nothing in the game, from the assets to the experience, feel fresh whatsoever. The multiplayer aspect feels like it is trying to be a more balanced MW2, but they overbalanced it and guns feel the same and don't have much of a personality. The killstreaks aren't very inventive and the rest of the customization options are not very interesting. The maps are possibly the worst offender, being very cramped and all very maze-like. The survival is possibly the most original feature and it soars, being the best part of the game. Overall, the game feels like a money-grab for Activision and the game does little to nothing to push the franchise forward. I would not recommend this game, unless you are a Call of Duty fanatic who just wants to prestige above all of the other players. Expand

I have played many of the COD's COD, COD 2, COD 4 MW, COD WAW, and COD MW2. But by then Activision had not brought anything new to the table and was milking the fan base to no end. As far as my review it looks and plays no different than COD4. Not a bad thing if this game was released back in 2007. It felt like I was playing a 60 dollar map pack. Some new maps with new perks but not much else. With as much money the COD world has brought in I would have at least hoped that they would have updated the game engine or provided dedicated servers to avoid the crazy amount of modded players on this game. Yes the game has already been hacked. Within 24hrs. A mod is available for MW3. Not surprised since it is a game based on per to per play. By the way the friend I was standing in line with called today and his excitment was not were near what it was Monday night. I asked him what was wrong because he was sooo pumped for this game and the night or should I say morning we where playing it he was really over the top about how sweet it was. I love how they changed the way guns are upgraded, acogs are actually effective and useful- no 1 man army...but thats about it. The percs have all been nerfed and muddled with, some are totally pointless, some of my favorite percs have been turned into 2 percs (ghost!), some have been divided into the same catagory which breaks my balls. The spawn system is 100% broken, i dont know what they're thinking. I play free for all A LOT, but it is U N P L A Y A B L E as you spawn literally FEET from the enemy. (I mean feet, Ive literally watched people spawn in front of me within shotgun range, and ive noticed people have made a habit of spawning and planting a bouncing betty at their feet which kills the next person that spawns there) quick scoping is back and worse then ever, yAaaaaaaaaaaaay. Theres a new air burst grenade launcher that is devastating, complete with 4 round clip and abundant ammo. A lot of the guns almost always require scavenger, which is in the same slot as slight of hand, which really bothers me. And I havent scratched the surface, the 3 worst things about this game are the guns damage (you spawn and die before you know whats happening- too many one shot weapons) the maps are cluster F@&$ed and jammed together (Theres about 1000 ways into a area, which I thought I'd love but it just exasperates me getting shot from 10 different angles, there is not 1 map that resembles their classic formula, not one feels like a call of duty map) and there is debris and crap EVERYWHERE, making every inch of the maps prime hiding for campers. Everyone camps in this game, and I think its because people are intimidated to move sense you have the potential of being shot from 200 different angles. I wish I could return this game, I've never been more disappointed in a game in my life. This game is redeemable if they patch the guns, remove quick scoping, fix the spawning, and release some decent classic feeling maps. All of this is reasonable, they have nerfed guns in the past due to being over powered (like the ak74u) and fixed quick scoping, I dont get why they went the opposite direction this game. Expand

I picked this one up mainly because all of my friends were. This is once again, another busy holiday season with tons of games coming out and the quest for finding that 1 or 2 that standout is the tricky part. I first went through the campaign. I was excited about it because MW2's IMO was great! it was fun, and the story did fully flesh out and complete itself, but it was predictable. The trailers showed way to much that it became easy to piece 1 & 1 together. Also, where MW had the AC-130 scene, MW2 had the boat chase and breaches, this game recycles both of those in ways that aren't very entertaining. It is like going into a Michael Bay movie and thinking that there won't be explosions. Not that it is all bad, but it seems like when the creative team at Infinity Ward left, they took the best talent for originality. Some of the levels feel recycled from previous versions of single player except they are in different parts of the world. Even that is lost. Its like they took random famous bits of architecture and threw it on a generic map. The special ops mode in this game is almost identical, just on different maps. it seems like almost every one is either blowing something up, or going after some generic leader. The survival mode adds a few new things to the mix, but instead of reinventing the wheel, all it does it change it from a wagon wheel to something with a little more shine. The multiplayer that is so well know and loved in the COD series is back and still has just as many problems as ever, just given that new car smell to try and avoid exposure to the many flaws. Quick scoping, drop shotting, strike packages (aka kill streaks) are abused even more so than all the previous installments. The community is full of underage children that like to complain and try whispering the occasional profane word to try and boost the e-ego. The hit detection is still off as I somehow missed a player that was away from the system from about 3 foot away. It shows when in a hot gunfight and a player misses your head, yet gets a headshot. It is a very annoying code error. Lastly, they still need to fix the servers to try and reduce he atrocious lag. Lag is still a veteran COD players worst enemy. Probably even worse than all the people actually playing on the map. This is a game that I strongly suggest trying before buying. It might be a game for you, but personally I think I am going back to MW2. At least the maps were better... Expand

I wasn't expecting a whole new experience, but there is nothing that I can point to and say "This is really cool.", or " x problem from the last games seems to be much better." The spawn system and the quick scoping, which seems to be much more reliable in this iteration, takes you out of the game and results in squashing any atmosphere. I don't see any improvements for those who actually enjoy sniping. It is still mostly geared to "run and gunners" which results in more camping than usual. The game play has lost it's novelty after this many attempts and has been reduced to points grinding sessions instead of actual fun. IW is going to need some major kick a$$ DLC.
The last thing I will comment on is the Elite product. This is wrong in so many ways. This reeks of a project that was hijacked and perverted by nothing but greed. Will I still play this game? Yes. But it will be a lot easier to break for other games .

My little brother got this game, i walked in the room, looked at it forgetting MW3 came out and i swear to god i thought the game was MW2. Than i go on to realise that CoD elite is 4000 MP. It is honestly ridiculous. I played it for a good 3 hours and i just got sick of it. It literally frustrated me. Activision and Inifinity ward need to realise that we are sick of them milking the game and we are sick of paying $150 each year for the same game. And its the CoD fanboys which allow them to do this, who just pay anything for the game. Dont get me wrong, MW1 was fantastic, and so was MW2 ,but that was because they were both relatively new and were therefore were fresh and exciting. Next year i wont be surprised if its $200, and you have to pay in order to pay for the map packs.I just cant wait for Activision to fall. And on that day, on that day. Jesus will come down to us, and forgive us of our sins for playing these forsaken games. and he will come down in the form of Halo 4.We we will be rectified and reconciled. Instead of another CoD game with a new variation on zombies or survival or whatever. In my honest opinion if you want to play another first person shooter this summer, i think bf3 is the way to go, or even reach with its new upcoming map packs, beleive me if you are not a CoD fanboy, and if you are not obsessed with CoD, dont get this game. There are much better affordable games coming out this summer also skyrim (which is absaloutley amazing) and AC: revelations.

The Glen guy (from Sledgehammer) begged the community to come review his game for him so here it is. My thoughts:

Unfortunately the multiplayer experience is destroyed due to the horrible lag created by the lag compensation. After about 15 hours played online it is obvious that the game artificially introduces lag (sometimes up to .5-1 second) to "even" the playing field with those who do not have good connections. This typically results in many wtf moments when engaging into 1v1 gun battles (which the developers repeatedly said would be the focus of the game) where you see the person first and start shooting first but you appear to die from 1 bullet from the other player. Watching the kill cam shows a different story. The other player sees you first and starts emptying most of their magazine into you, clearly more then the 1 bullet that was shown earlier. Multiplayer is unplayable with these problems. These issues were in other CoDs however I have never experienced it as bad as now. If you want to run 'n gun look elsewhere.

The maps are terrible. Tight corridors with numerous corners and overlooking windows lead to excessive camping. All the clutter in the environment is too easily abused for cover where what looks like the tip of someones head above an object is shown to be the barrell of their gun in the kill cam after they kill you. Additionally the spawns are terrible. Enemies spawn on top of you, in you, to the side of you, etc. The same happens when you spawn. It is not uncommon to spawn and take a couple steps and get killed. There is no logic to the spawn locations which seem to be random in nature. The developers stated numerous times that they wanted a fast paced game. If by fast paced they meant chaotic and illogical they succeeded.

Gun damage is inconsistent, likely due to the terrible network compensation. One kill may take 3 bullets the next may take 6. Assault rifles are by far the best weapons in the game dominating the close, mid, and long range. A majority of the iron sights are ridiculus. For example the G36C iron sight covers up nearly 1/3 of the screen while ADS forcing the use of red dot sights. Perk selection has changed little since Modern Warfare 2.

The only gameplay improvements I can see over Modern Warfare 2 are less power and prevailent noob tubes and air support has been toned down slightly.

Single player experience is average. Your "buddies" are dumber then ever just standing around waiting for you to do all the work generally ignoring enemies that are right next to them. I watched many of the developer videos on YouTube and the IGN exclusives. It is clear that many of the pstatements made (gun vs. gun, 3-5 hot spots per map, better spawns, etc.) were not true. I spent $100 on the Hardend Edition and it was a rip off. Call of Duty Elite (included with it) doesn't work reliably and offers less features then what was included with Black Ops combat record! To make it worse, Elite isn't even integrated into the game! You have to exist Modern Warfare 3 to view the more "detailed" stats.

So yea, lots of complaints. Very dissappointed.

Just another over hyped expansion pack for MW2 with minor tweaks to the MP system and a short unsatisfying and uninspired campaign with recycled graphics - only fanboys and dirty journalists on the take of Activision would rate this highly. The removal of talent from IW by Activision has doomed this game to epic failure.

To top it off the COD elite service is not even working even though it's a paid service for premium members. How is it that the "Most Anticipated" game to ever be released has this many problems? You would really think that they would use part of that quarter billion+ they've already made from the first week of sales to fix these problems faster. It's not like the biggest sold game in history has financial problems. Expand

Next, multiplayer. The spawning system is trash, even worse than Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops' "spawn and you're dead" system. The weapons are either absolutely amazing or pea shooters which is crazy and the sprinting and aiming feels clunky and slow. The thing that really gets me about multiplayer is that I have to have two perks "Stalker" and "Quickdraw" for this game to feel as fast with aiming as MW1 and MW2. The servers are also broken for whatever reason and I only play with the 60 or so people playing in my area which is annoying to say the least. So bravo, Infinity Ward / Activision! You have convinced me even further that I should stick with Gears of War 3 (a great game in my view) in the months to come except maybe for Skyrim...

Since 4 there have been some great sequels and some not so much, but none have been as disapointing as MW3, I cant speak to the campaign yet, but as for the multiplayer, which is the main focus of the game, this takes the cake for falling on its face. Its so close to being an amazing game, no more stopping power and steady aim is unlocked later in the ranks so other perks get some lovin too and the guns do the damage they are intended to do, great idea there. I'm also a fan of the gun rankings to get attatchments weapon mods, and camo's with head shots get you more xp for said rank. Also the strike package concept is a really good idea. Where this game fails is its map design and the way the guns feel. The maps are this games biggest flaw, each way too small with no safe place to sit, promoting running around RAMBO style. Theres no flow to the maps, its impossible to establish where the main chunk of enemies is or which way to set up an offensive line. Me and my buddy have searched every map and we still cant find a place to jump 30ft or more to get the "Goodbye" challenge cause the maps are far too small and crowded, Ive always loved sniping in CoD but cant find a single place that makes sense to do so. Of the 16 or so maps that came with the game, maybe 3 are bearable, none are impressive or fun to play, and if I'm expected to put out another $12 in a blind leap of faith for a DLC map pack to be released soon where they supposedly improve mapping quality, they are bigger fools than I could have imagined, I have completely lost faith in the series, its really just been going downhill since 4, dont get me wrong I liked MW2, but it didn't top 4, and now this, I would have just called it a loss if it was made by Treyarch, but at this point I'm going to go ahead and say that I think they did a better job w Black Ops than IW did with this one, at least the maps were fun to play in that one, I loved Nuketown. So let me end by saying "so long Modern Warefare, thank you for all the fun times playing with buddies and breaking through so many barriers to revolutionize the way we play and think of FPS's, we will always remember the younger you" Expand

Games are defined by many things, and innovation is one of them. MW3 is a good game, but barely offers anything new to the eight year old CoD series. That said, it's no surprise. I gave this game a 1! because like others im VERY dissapointed in the mltpyr, there is still LAST STAND!"oh wait its only a deathstreak, but u get BACK UP if u can!!??? after so many complaints! this shows they give no importance to their fans and sadly infinity ward are the most popular in the industry. The way the low health is and the map designs...makes matches a hide and seek game, 5/10 camp and the others actually play fair, like others said the weapon damage is unstable in many, and i can never play this game the same way i used to play mw2. Halo isnt the best game nor B.Ops, but the way Bungie & Treyarch listen to their fans is amazingly satisfying. Unlike i.Ward is always focused on their own opinions and making $$$. (Heck Treyarch gave their fans the last DLC FREE to whoever had Hardened or prestige edition!) something that really you guys at i.Ward would not have the heart to do or think of...That said im trying to get my point across not to hate but to express my true thoughts of mw3 and because im not the only one. Me and my brother played through the campaign criticizing it the whole way through. Playing through the multiplayer I found no new innovations that really changed it up too much, and the small maps with a small amount of players annoyed me as i'm used to 64 players on massive maps that I find in my PC version of Battlefield 3. I am not a strict fanboy of Battlefield, and I should probably not judge the game by it's style of gameplay, but Jesus Christ, at least have the decency to not charge $60 for what felt like uninspired DLC that is just proof of Activision's tendency to prefer quantity over quality.Sure the experience is worth more than the $2 it cost to rent it, but not full price. Just like they say we could go the way of the dinosaurs, I feel Call of Duty will go the way of Guitar Hero. I will go through each aspect of the game, MW3 is the sequel to MW2 but has been released after black ops as part of the two year cycle, and with its release after black ops one would expect similar improvements on the previous game but MW3 looks almost identical to MW2. For the most part the gameplay is very similar to MW2. In Black ops (multiplayer) we could change in game sound settings, e.g turn game music off, choose type of sound system (headset, 5.1, 2.1 etc...) we never were able to do that with MW2 and its the same with MW3. Why on earth can we not change that? Black ops would allow us to turn the aim assist off (so did world at war), MW2 didnt and neither does MW3, I mean why cant I chose to disable it? I have been a call of duty fan since the first one many years ago and have since loyally purchased every game since, but this is where the line has to be drawn. Many people will not know Infinity Ward had lost many employees during the days of MW2 and since had to merge with another game developer, which was not an issue, but there are real signs of lazy work. Apart from what I have mentioned, there are some buildings which have been directly copied from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 1 and these buildings have had graphical updates. The voice chat quality online is horrible, black ops implemented an update which used the new HD codec provided by Mircosoft (a few months after black ops was released) so why did this update not make it to MW3? Again this is another copy any paste job by the looks of it. Im sure many will remember the hacks in MW2, 10th prestige lobbys, god mode etc...well clan tag hacks are back in MW3 and so are the worse ones (check certain forums). Modders have the exact same hacks running on MW3 which are not yet public but will soon be. I spoke to a casual gamer friend who previously purchased MW2 and black ops, when he first played MW3 his first comment was "Its exactly the same as MW2", he then stated his desire not to purchase the game. Im not a BF3 fanboy, I have a youtube channel with all sorts of games/gameplay and MW3 might be the best selling game of all time but its not worth the money I have paid for it. The only thing I can commend this game in the multiplayer realm is the fact that it is balanced but thats it. There is no innovation, new ideas or even passion when this game was created. The gameplay is good but I persoanlly dont think its worth the investment, I would suggest playing other games that have been released recently like batman, assassins creed, saints row. Those games will provide a decent experience because there will be an underwhelming feeling after playing this, Im already bored of it. I do not troll as I am trying to become a fair games journalist, but the review sites get paid off to give good reviews of games. MW3 deserves a very low score due to the lack of change or improvement but mainly because of the laziness of the developer who has clearly copied and pasted many aspects from previous games. All I can do is enjoy the other games out there and wait for GTA V. Expand

The weapon proficiencies that you unlock by ranking the weapon up, make the broken weapons more broken. For instance, the Type 95 is a burst fire weapon that normally only takes two out of the 3 bullets to connect for a kill, now put the two attachments proficiency on with a red dot and a grenade launcher and you have an unstoppable class. The AK47 takes two bullets to kill but is supposedly offset but its huge recoil and horrible accuracy, now use the less recoil proficiency with a red dot and you can gun down a whole team without emptying a clip. The online is exactly the same as mw2's but with a few different guns and maps, and the maps are not the best .. :/ If you are a fan off both CoDs and Battlefeilds then I recommend this. If you prefer COD to BF then buy mw3 or stick to playing mw2 and cod4. But if you like CODs and BFs equally then buy Battlefeild 3 as its a much better buy for money. :) Hope this helps any people who cant choose between buying MW3 or not. Expand

If anyone ever followed tomb raider we've seen that a good game that doesn't see any innovation will score low. That game is now mw3. Ever since cod4 it has been essentially the same game.

When I walked into my brothers room after he had purchased it I actually thought he was playing MW2, the menu screens were exactly the same layout but a different colour, even the font they used was the same. I dont get it it plays the same, its got different guns but you can tell that they are the same layout except they look different. MW is a good game though it is accessible and addictive and I am rating this game on the fact that its fun to play, but I believe that you shouldn't buy it because you already have MW2 it is only an expansion pack nothing more except a rehashed zombie mode with guns. I found this game to be a copy of MW2 with nothing very unique. Developers showed a lack luster effort to try something different in the series. Wish I would not have bought and just kept playing MW2 with map expansion.

It's been adapated to make the new players feel more at home, but for the experts to really cause problems for others. However, there is still problems with the multiplayer thats been the same since mw1, and thats how many actual shots does it take to kill someone? i dont know, half the killcams i watch, its trailing bullets that arent even hitting me that kill me. Lets be honest, if your buying MW3, your expecting more of the same. However, this game lacks innovation, even Fifa 12 had more innovation this year. I personally think Activision should go back to the drawing board, what made mw1 different was the multiplayer, what made world at war different was the zombies. Since then, theres not really anything different. P.S for the record, i cant stand battlefield 3 :P Expand

The multi-player maps was the same as MW2 with slightly update graphics and added detail. They even stole one of the map from the original Counter Strike, I'm surprised that Steam did not sue them for this. I was so disappoint in the game play, that I later sold the game to a friend. MW3 is a very fun game. In single player the ride is frantic, emotional and brings closure, the one thing it isn't, is new. But considering that their single player was quite fun to start with, it really isn't an issue.

SpecOps is exhilarating as always, going a long way to not feel too bad about the lack of coop single player.

It did not improve all that much from what I played on black ops. The maps are all rather small, massively discouraging sniping which some players prefer and is a good aspect to avoid. It seems with multiplayer they've focused their attentions towards the hardcore players. Stop the yearly releases and give the development another year to give us a something spectacular. As for single player, its no longer than 5 to 6 hours on hard. Although some scenarios were rather impressive the story was loose and uninteresting. The 'scene' that was aimed to draw controversy was only offensive in the depiction of n English street. This isn't a bad game, but it has gotten lazy. Little innovation with the development team relying on the yearly purchases from an addictive audience. Expand

If you only take in account this game, and only this game, maybe this would have been considered a 9. Honestly, a 10 would've been way too large of a stretch considering the extremely normal military single-player storyline, but the multiplayer would of made it at least an 8 because yes it is the most immersive multiplayer you can get, hence the strong sales. What this game doesn't have going for it though, is the originality. It is literally a mix of Black Ops and MW2 with only a few new features. It's comparable to an iPod classic, it's amazing to withhold so much in your pocket, but the new one that comes out is essentially the same thing except maybe a very slight difference of the actual product. True, playing that music is great fun, but is it really a game changer anymore? No. It's the same old-same old. This series has started to run its course, and unless a true sense of creativity comes into the game, this game is slowly heading towards a candy-item that you just eat cause it tastes good, even though you really shouldn't be eating it. The innovation is lacking, but the fun is still there. I'd probably recommend many other games over this if you had $60 to spare right now. Expand

Just giving a 10 to balance out some of the unnecessary zeros. In my opinion, Infinity Ward did a good job perfecting the system used in the previous call of duty's and this game is loads of fun to play with my friends. This game is not perfect but is definitely not deserving the zeros posted by some of the people who haven't even given the game a fair chance.

Nothing special with this game here. The single player campaign was good, for the most part. The plot seemed to move well and fill in the holes to complete the Modern Warfare series. I spent many hours playing Modern Warfare 2, and all bugs, exploits, and glitches aside, it played and handled well. With Black Ops, the game felt more balanced, but the horrendous lag and bad hit detection really took away from that experience. In that instance, I felt Black Ops was a step back. However, after playing Modern Warfare 3, it's more like a complete jump back. The first glaring problem is the lag is worse than Black Ops. I've literally lost count of the number of time I have shot at enemies, have them turn, and be killed in one quick shot. Players jump around maps, freezing, shots not registering, etc. These are simple mechanics that worked well in MW2 and seem to be broken in MW3. Apart from the lag and hit detection problems, the spawn system is terrible. This can at least be fixed, but it just screams poor programming when something so trivial and basic has major problems. The formula for Call of Duty is simple and proven. However, whether it be rushed deadlines or just poor finishing, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games (a cringe-worthy name of a studio) seem to have lost the vision that the Modern Warfare series once had. CoD4 and MW2 are some of my favourite games ever. However, MW3 seems to have set the series back. This game is average and honestly not worth the praise and revenue it has received. When compared to the other big FPS game, Battlefield 3, MW3 is a distant second place. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
